Disclaimer- I made a wish that I'd own everything involved with Buffy, but Anya didn't make it come true. d'oh.
Rating- PG (in my kooky opinion)
Spoilers- Yes- season four BTVS, season one Angel
Feedback- I'd love to know what you thought of it! Please email
Time Zone- During the S4 episode Restless, before Shansu
Note- This is just pure fluff which I wrote in the space of two hours
so its not going to be a masterpiece. I'll probably tune up the
dialogue, storyline etc but I'm too impatient to wait and send
it, thus its posted today, hehe. If you all like it, maybe I'll
bulk it out this week? The idea came into my head when I was discussing with
Gem how Angel didn't feature in Buffys Restless dream, to my
annoyance. So I was inspired to write a fic where he did. So thanks
Gem, I dedicate this rocky story to you (I bet you're shivering
with worry now!)
Teaser- Who said that Angel wasn't involved in the dream fight
against the primal slayer in Restless, the season four finale? Here,
for the first time, is Angels freaky dream which leads to him helping
Buffy. I've written it so it hopefully fits in with the episode.
Angel rubbed his eyes and peered out the window into the night. He had a feeling that something was going to happen with Wolfram and Hart, any day soon. It made him tense, he hated something hanging over him like this. Maybe tomorrow he'd discover what was going on.
He laid down on his bed and tried to settle down for sleep. For a brief second, he thought that he wouldn't be able to, but in the next, he was unconscious to the world.
Let sleeping vampires lie.
***
"Hey sleepy" came a soft voice.
Angel opened his eyes and discovered that he was on a beach, and unbelievably, it was during the day. He glanced at the sky and shielded his eyes from the light.
"Keeps you on your toes" the soft voice whispered. It sounded like Faith's.
Angel turned around full circle, but didn't see anyone. Footprints in the sand were directed towards the sea, but there was no-one around to have made them.
Except maybe himself.
The wind curled around him. Angel decided to retrace the steps back to the sea. Putting his left, shoeless foot onto one of the prints, he stumbled backwards as he made his way to the water.
"Vampires can be killed by water" he found himself saying. "As much as water can be killed by vampires"
Angel didn't question what he said, but the closer he came to the water, the more nervous he became. When he felt the sea wash against his legs, he almost fell down before he felt himself being caught. The woman holding him felt like Buffy, but when he turned he realised he had been caught by Faith.
"I'm looking for Buffy" he said, glancing around.
"She's looking too" Faith said, setting him back on his feet.
"For me?"
"No" Faith shook her head "For you"
"Didn't I just say that?" Angel asked, perplexed.
Faith ignored the question.
The wind blew her hair in all sorts of directions.
"Does that hurt you?" Angel asked with a mild touch of sarcasm
"It used to, but I'm riding the waves now" she replied
Angel noticed Buff's house on the seafront. He decided to head up to it.
"I'd better-"
"Go. Sure. Don't get lost, you can scream, but they won't hear you if you're in too deep"
"I'll be fine" Angel said, already walking to the house. Faith stood in the water and watched, no emotion on her face.
Angel opened the door and walked straight into his ex-home, the mansion.
"Buffy?" he shouted out loud.
There was no reply.
He walked down a few steps and found Riley, Xander, and Cordy playing a card game around a large table.
"Can I join in?" he asked, sitting down with them.
They shook their heads for no.
"Stakes are high" Riley said "You might hurt yourself"
Angel stared at him. "Never stopped me before"
"Never played against me before" Riley muttered, staring back at his cards. "Have you got a two?" he asked Cordy.
"Go Fish" she answered at him.
Xander remained silent.
"I've got a two" Angel said, desperate at being added to the game. He showed them his card. They turned away in disgust. He looked at it himself and realised it was a card with the zodiac symbol `Gemini' on it.
"We don't have time to play" Cordelia said "Something's hunting her, its here for you too"
"Why?"
"What, am I knowledge girl? You're the immortal, work it out"
"I..have to-"
"Go?" Cordelia offered.
Angel was startled by her mind-reading.
"How did you do that?" he asked
"Doyle's been teaching me lessons" she said with an air of dignity
"I'm sorry"
"You shouldn't be. He isn't"
Angel almost caught a glimpse of a creature rushing behind a table. He followed its movements as it scrambled out through a door. He left the table and quickly followed it. Closing the door behind him, he found himself in a large room where a massive party was in full swing.
Chandeliers hung from the ceiling, everybody were wearing formal clothes. Angel stared hard at the people dancing to a waltz, but didn't recognise anyone.
"Why wasn't I invited?" he asked Xander, who, by the way he was dressed and how he was pouring drinks, Angel assumed was bar-keeper.
"Didn't you get the letter? We sent it to your address"
"No, I didn't"
"Maybe you should ask Buffy where she put it, sounds like she's teasing you"
"Why would she have it?"
"Dunno mate, these things happen I guess"
Angel turned away for a second and noticed the creature was running around the dance floor, but was too far away for him to know what it was.
He began to realise that maybe this wasn't real life.
"Xander, stake me" Angel said with a hunch
Xander automatically picked up a stake that was lying on a table nearby and staked Angel.
Angel smiled at Xander, who smiled back at him. They looked down at the blood that had begun to mark Angels white top.
Angels smile turned to a grimace as he pulled Xanders face closer to his with a grip on his neck.
"What's happening?" he demanded. "Stakes and sun don't work on me, but my instincts are shouting that this ain't just a dream"
Xander morphed out into a vampire game face and began clawing at Angels body with sharp nails.
Angel pushed the kid away and headed onto the dance-floor towards the creature, figuring that it was responsible for whatever was going on.
Dancers pushed around and into him, pulling him back but Angel was set on getting to it.
"Vampire!" a woman screamed, and suddenly Angel found himself being trampled on. Everyone had leapt on him, keeping him on the floor. He struggled and managed to wriggle out of the pile-up. Without looking back, he headed back for the door.
"You've forgotten your coat" he heard Xander shout from behind him, but Angel didn't turn back.
Angel fell into a cemetery and hit his head on a gravestone.
"Ouch" he gasped, still out of breath. And to think that Angels couldn't breathe! He glanced at his top and found it was pure white again.
What was happening? This wasn't a dream and it sure as hell wasn't reality.
"Oh ha-ha" said a female voice sarcastically.
Angel winced and glanced up to finally find himself facing Buffy.
"Buffy!" he confirmed.
She shook her head and began to walk away.
"Hey wait, I was looking for you"
What was he thinking, though? Buffy would be as unreal as the rest of this crazy world.
"Oh stop the madness" Buffy said sarcastically, turning round to face him.
I wish, Buffy, I wish.
"I get the funny joke" she added, pointing at the gravestone that Angel was lying on.
The solitary word `DANGER' was written where a name should have been.
"Dangers dead?" Angel asked in disbelief
"Duh, no. Think about it, Sherlock"
Why was she so mad at him?
"Well what does it mean then?" he asked, a little angered at her attitude.
"It's a grave. Says danger. Grave Danger, and oh who is sitting on it like a drunk? Angel, my cryptic ex boyfriend. That message was as subtle as a brick"
She began to walk away, muttering "I need to find Giles."
Angel thought for a second and considered that what she had just said had made far too much sense in Bizarro world. Was it possible that she was really Buffy and not dream-type Buffy?
"Wait!" he shouted and she did. "This isn't a dream, is it?"
Those words shook Buffy and her face softened in realisation.
"Oh my god, Angel? You're real? I mean, I think this is a dream, but you are real, aren't you?"
She rushed back to him.
Angel nodded.
She touched his top, as if that would confirm that Angel was real.
"I'm sorry about my sarcasm, but I'd only just began to doubt everything thats been happening. I was just with Riley. suddenly things turned bright and I was here. "
"This is a dream, I don't know what type though"
"So it is. I knew it"
Buffy drew closer to him.
"You know what's happening?"
"I keep seeing a creature" Angel said "Its looking for someone, I was following it"
"Seeing as I'm here, maybe its looking for me. It makes sense. although that shouldn't help us seeing as nothing makes sense here. Maybe its to do with that spell."
"Spell? Not Willow again?"
"No. a spell we used to kill Adam"
Angel didn't understand who Adam was, but figured it was the latest in a string of bad guys.
"I guess we're gonna have to find it" Buffy said, looking across the cemetery.
"I think it'll find you"
"Wanna fight together?"
"Thought you'd never ask"
A door suddenly revealed itself. They both stared at it, warily.
"Next stop" Angel said. He stepped up to walk through it, but rebounded back.
Buffy, surprised, gently walked towards the door and put her hand through it. No problem at all.
"Guess there's just room for one" she said softly.
She turned back to Angel and smiled.
He rubbed his throbbing nose. Again, an indication that he wasn't a vampire.
"Maybe there another way?" he asked, unwilling to just let her face whatever it was alone.
"Somehow, I doubt that"
He smiled back, but less certainly.
"Any tips?" Buffy asked. "You've seen it"
"I don't know what the hell it is, but best I can say is click your heels and remember this is just a twisted dream"
"I will"
Angel moved out of her way to the door, not comfortable with playing the waiting game and seeing what happened next, but with little choice. Buffy turned to go but quickly grabbed him and gave him a deep kiss.
"Twisted or not, I'm happy that your in it. Made me realise, if our link is strong enough to talk to each other here, maybe its strong enough to hold our relationship back together?"
Angel kissed her back, as an answer to her question.
"Still my guy?" Buffy asked, putting one foot into the portal.
"Always" Angel replied, letting go of her hand as she disappeared from view.
Back to the waiting game.
***
Angel woke up with a start, and found himself lying on the floor, next to his bed. He was awake! Buffy had done it, whatever it was. He had to phone her, talk to her, see if she remembered it too.
Just as he reached the phone, it began to ring.
"Buffy?" he said, before the other voice had a chance to speak.
"Hey Angel" the chirpy female voice replied
"How did you kill it?" he asked, mystified.
"Its complicated, but if you've got a good spare evening, I could tell you about it?"
Angel sat down on a chair.
"Will I need popcorn?"
"Uh-huh. This'll be a large cola kind of deal." She laughed. "And Angel?"
"Yes?"
"Before you ask, I'm still your girl. Always will be.First I'll tell you about Adam. He was created by the Initiative."
Angel smiled warmly, as he listened to his lover start her story. Whatever was going to be thrown at him the next day, knowing that Buffy would be at his side would make him so much more stronger.
