Buffy stood there completely numb and empty, as the sun faded and the sky turned dark behind her. She was six feet away from her mother, yet she couldn't walk the distance between them and just reach out and touch her. So she just stayed where she was staring blankly at the dirt that covered her sweet mother's coffin. Then there he was right beside her apologising for not coming sooner. Her hand reached out for his, he caught it in a second and she held on, held on to her salvation.

They had sat down under a tree that stood near her mother's grave. Buffy with a look of loss and pain in her eyes, yet eased a little just to have him here beside her, not letting her fall at the one time she knew she couldn't hold herself up. How did he know? I never called and told him. Buffy thought to herself. I forget to I had so much to do, it just slipped my mind. So how did he hear about this? Did my friends tell him, so he could be here for me, and stay with me forever. Or did he just know like he always seems to know when I'm hurting. Angel could see all the unanswered questions in her eyes and let her know everything she needed to just by looking at her.

/ I sat upon the roof and stared the stars out

Buffy started to feel as though she needed more than his presence and more than just looking into his eyes no matter how peaceful they made her feel. She needed something he couldn't give her. She needed his touch. She had to make him go before her neediness took control. But Angel would have none of it, he wouldn't budge. He planned on being there for her. Whatever it was going to take he could handle it.

As Buffy leaned in for what she thought was gong to be a soft and gentle kiss, her neediness did what she thought it would and took control. As their kiss grew deeper and hungrier Angel had to grab a hold of her just to steady himself, as he could feel he was slipping and getting lost in her. Buffy couldn't stop herself; she couldn't bear the thought of pulling away from the man she loved, especially when she needed him the most. But eventually she knew she had to, and reluctantly they broke off the kiss and left each other breathless.

Holding her gaze Angel tried to apologise for not being able to give her what she needed and truly be there for her, but Buffy wouldn't let him because although he had yet to realise it he was there for her. He sat and listened to the things she couldn't bear to say out loud to herself or anyone else. But with Angel she felt he wouldn't judge or lay blame on her, he would just care and love her not matter what it was. For the first time since the day she found her mommy lying there lifeless on the couch, she had opened up. She had told him about the guilt that had crept into her heart after she had spoken to her mothers doctor, and how she didn't know how to deal when it came down to Dawn. Angel had tried his best to reassure her. He wasn't to sure if his words had done any good, until she told him that without him there would have been no Buffy tomorrow.

/ The desert soon will turn to bloom,

Angel took his eyes off Buffy for a brief moment to look up at the sky. He had a few more minutes before sunrise and he wasn't going anywhere until then. He turned back to meet her gaze and at that moment he could see everything there was in this beautiful woman. Her love and passion desire and need her strength and beauty, but most of all her pain. Although it was so visible it seemed to have eased a little. He pulled her into his arms and she laid her cheek against his chest. With his chin resting on her honey blonde hair, he held her for what he wished would be forever.
