What exactly was the point to all of this? You live, you experience, you die. Or, at least in most cases you do.
I lived, I experienced, I died and still I experienced. I loved, I needed, I cared. But what happens when your everything is no longer there? The one that you love above all else, beyond life, beyond death...beyond eternity...
You move on, don't you? Grasp everything else that the world has to offer and live out your life, or in my case, eternity. Well, I took what it offered. I had something to hold onto for a while, but even that was fleeting.
The one that I held onto, so very tightly, has moved on, has chosen another over me. Not that I mind. She deserves happiness.
But so do I...
The love that I hold true in my heart still grows and mourns with each empty night that passes. Ten years I have gone without her. And now, the other leaves me, too, to marry a younger man...
I love them both so much...
I have choices. I can stay and watch her spend her life with him, I can leave for anywhere and live out my eternity, or I can just let go. End my existence once and for all...
*~*~*~*
She entered the building, but couldn't sense him anywhere. She quickly checked around the apartment. It felt so empty, so cold. She couldn't understand how he could go on living there...
That's not true...She knew exactly how he could. It had been their place. For twenty years it had been theirs...
She entered his bedroom, their bedroom. Her breath caught in her throat. In front of the enlarged photograph hanging on the wall, was a pile of ashes. Alongside the ashes was a stake and a rolled up piece of paper, held firm and encircled by his beloved claddagh ring.
She picked up the paper and removed the ring, holding it tightly in her strong grip. She unrolled the paper and read the few words.
I know that you understand, Baby.
"I do, Daddy," Angelique O'Conner whispered as she gathered her father's ashes. She placed them in a container, along with the ring and took them to the cemetery.
Angelique sprinkled his ashes over her mother's grave. The ring fell onto the grass but kept on sinking into the earth, as did the remains of her father. Within seconds, all trace of him had disappeared.
She felt a strong pair of arms wrap themselves around her waist. She leant back into the familiar embrace of her fiancé. "Are you about done here?" he asked her gently.
"Yeah," she said, wiping away a stray tear. She turned and held his hand, leaving her parents behind...
Well, that was certainly a change of writing for me...lol
