Rating: PG?
Summary: Okay, let's try that whole 'Buffy and Angel meet' again...
Spoilers: Pretty much both "Buffy" and "Angel", as well as the movie...
Disclaimer: I so TOTALLY wish I owned them...do you think I could kill him and claim to be his heir? At least that way the storyline wouldn't ubersuck!!!
Note: This is the sequel to my fic, "Buffy the 'Slays Every Vampire' Vampire Slayer...
Note 2: Okay, this is MY universe, so that means that anything can happen :)
All they could do was argue....
That was pretty much ALL they had been doing ever since the recently called Slayer had staked her would be partner...
Since Buffy had staked Angel...
One argued that they should have been allowed to remember, to make wiser choices...
Another argued that this was what she had been destined to do, kill vampires...
But they mostly just argued...
They only did it to cover up the real reason behind their outrage...they felt lost. They had no idea on what to do. These seven beings, in all of their divinity, were stumped. But they all agreed on one thing...why did earthwalkers have to make everything so difficult???
They didn't often delve into everyday problems of the 'other' beings, they preferred only to concern themselves with dire circumstances. Things weren't 'dire' just yet, but everything had been screwed up, for lack of a better term...again.
The first time, it had been a simple mistake, everyone made those...
The second time, it had been a miscommunication between the mortal world and their own higher plane...
The third time, they had all preyed that the mortal saying, 'the third time's the charm', would perhaps apply...but as in each existence, the couple defied prophesy.
What was it about these two that caught and held the attention of seven of existence's most powerful and supreme beings?
The couple were of the group.
In each repeat existence, they didn't know. Buffy, heart and soul, was the original Slayer, the first Slayer. And he, heart and soul, the first pure mortal. When it was realized that demons ruled this plane, the higher beings knew to fight for existence.
If ever there had been an Adam and Eve, they would have been them. There hadn't been, of course. That tale had been to give the mortals something to believe in, something to hope for. And so, two of divinity's greatest beings took control. Willingly bound themselves to the mortal plane to guard existence, to bind the demons.
And so it began...
For many millennia, they would search out the other, waiting for when the time was right for them to forever close the mortal plane off to the demons, to close the Hellmouth and all of its purposes.
She would never live long enough for them to learn to love.
He would never be around long enough for them to learn anything...
Until the year was 1996...the first time.
Yes, everything went according to the 'divine' plan, until...
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Ah, it was time...
They could all feel the change in the air...this was it. They would meet and finally give humanity, and themselves, a rest.
After countless millennia fighting the evils of the world and fruitless searches for the other, they would finally come together and reclaim the world. Theirs was a love that could, and had, spanned eternity, for their souls were pure and would one day return to their divine existence.
That day was approaching. Life, itself, lay in anticipation of this moment when to live, meant that you could live free...
If only Angelus hadn't been released by Faith...that hadn't been part of the plan...
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
They had decided to try again. After Faith brought back the demon, it went straight after its mate. Buffy. When she was turned, the whole world went straight to Hell.
It was amazing what one small event could do...
The second time was better, at least the world didn't go to Hell that time. It almost did a couple of times, but the Guardians stopped it.
In this repeat life, Faith had been unable to bring forth Angelus, thanks to an honest Shaman, well, a divine being in disguise, anyway. They couldn't have Faith messing everything up again, could they? What was the saying? 'If you want something done, you have to do it yourself'?
Unfortunately, things had gone wrong there, too. Miscommunication. It sounded good on paper..
The Oracles stuffed up. It was as simple as that. Someone had forgotten to give Angel the choice of immortality, plain and simple. There had been three choices that he was supposed to have been given, not just life or vampirism. He was meant to have chosen immortality. They had it all sat up for him to become a higher being once more, and for his love to join him back where she belonged. Immortal, a Guardian, one of them.
It had been decided by the seven beings that when their friends returned to them that the couple would sit side by side as figure head, or heads. They had sacrificed so much to bring mortality the gift of eternal peace, they deserved it.
And as before, their plans failed. Buffy did live a longer life, but she lived it alone. Her soulmate had left her for her own safety, his mortality taken away, never existing. The event wiped from her memory, but the sense of bliss lingered, leaving her unable to love another.
And when this attempt failed, they tried again...
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
This most recent repetition had been, by far, the worst. They hadn't even met, let alone love. Engulfed in pain and despair, she had been unable to think clearly, she had been unable to feel the link with him. She killed him. But she knew.
She knew that he had been meant for her and her alone. Forever.
Suddenly, nothing made sense to her anymore. In one irrational moment, she had destroyed her only chance at love and survival. She knew, because she could feel his love cloaking her, could hear his final thoughts. For her. She knew, but didn't understand.
She slept. For a week. She slept and she found her answers. Her need for understanding, her need for sheer sanity, caused her to see, to see everything.
She prayed the next night. She prayed for another chance, she prayed for their intervention so that they could accomplish what they had paid so dearly to do. And she prayed for one more thing...
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
They heard and they granted all of her prayers...
After all, why would they doom the two favourite beings, especially those of their own kind, to an eternity of suffering. They had had enough already...
This one last chance would do it, especially since a certain wish had been granted...
Okay, there's one more after this. This was a little more serious than most of my other fics, but I just had to write it this way...it actually started out as a funny kind of thing, but apparently it has a mind of its own! I swear! ~ Alicia
