Challenge:
1. Angel must be dating Kate. 2. Buffy must be dating Riley. 3. Doyle must
still be alive (or come back). 4. You must be really, REALLY horrible to
Riley and Kate.
Buffy sighed. She didn't want to do this. Didn't want to go in there. But she was being forced. Either that or go out of her mind.
She stood in front of Angel's old mansion, shivering, with her boyfriend Riley by her side. She hadn't want to come here. But Riley would not shut up, and wouldn't stop complaining and whining.
The two had been patrolling by Angel's old mansion, a couple of streets down. It had started pouring outside, teaming. Riley had started crying at the sound of thunder, and begged Buffy to take him to the mansion.
Buffy blamed it on Xander. Xander and Riley had been having a show-off contest. He figured that if he told Riley about knowing the guy who used to live in the biggest mansion in Sunnydale, he would win. And he did. Riley had been amazed.
So now she was standing outside the mansion, still shivering, with Riley whimpering at her heels. Buffy did not want to be here. Especially with Riley. Visiting her painful past with her new boyfriend was not a good idea. But if it got Riley to stop whimpering, she'd do it. Or she'd go out of her mind.
She slowly opened the door. Riley scrambled in, and she followed. It looked the same as it did the night he'd left, the last night she'd been there. The cold, dark corridors, dusty from not having been used.
A thunderbolt cracked outside, and Riley jumped into Buffy's arms. "Riley!" she exclaimed, and dropped him. He landed on the floor with a thud. "Buffy!" He stood up and glared at her, but she was to busy looking around the mansion to reply. "Come on."
She led him down the hall, to the room with the fireplace. It was big as ever. "Sit there, Riley," she commanded Riley as she went to the kitchen to get a match.
The matches were exactly where they were before. Buffy quickly lit one, and a fire started going. She put on the lights.
"Buffy? Is there anything here for me to change into?" Riley asked, looking at his soaking- wet clothes.
"I don't know..." She didn't like the idea of going into the bedroom to get the clothes heused to wear.
"Buffyyyyyyyy......." he said, giving her a pleading look. He was about to start whining again, when the door banged open.
Xander, Anya, Willow, and Spike burst through the door, all drenched.
"Buffy, what are you doing here?" Willow asked as she shut the door.
"Riley and I got caught in the storm," she replied. The group sat down in front of the fire, except Spike, who sat on the couch. He gave Buffy a smirk. "You brought Riley HERE?" he asked.
"Yes, Spike, I did. We had nowhere to go," Buffy replied, defending herself. Spike gave her a look. "Why are YOU here?"
"We were getting some things for Giles at the magic shop, and we got caught in that," Willow indicated to the storm.
"You got clothes?" asked Anya, who was shivering.
"Anya-" Xander started, but Riley interrupted. "Buffy...." And again, as he was about to start, the door banged open. Everyone turned to see who it was.
A figure clad in black was standing at the door, holding the door open for two women.
"Angel," Buffy stated, her eyes wide.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"Buffy," Angel said, realizing who had said his name as he shut the door. Spike started snickering.
"Angel," Buffy repeated, her eyes still wide. Her mind was blank as her old lover stepped in the room with the two women.
"Cordelia," Cordelia said briskly, rolling her eyes. She strutted in. "Hi Willow, Xander, and Anya? What are you doing here?" she asked.
"I was dragged here by Xander." Anya rolled her eyes at her boyfriend.
Cordelia nodded, and sat down at the couch. Seeing Xander made a hollow in the pit of her stomach.
The blond girl went over to Angel. "Aren't you going to introduce me?" she asked, indicating the group in front of them.
Angel straightened, blinking out all of the Buffy thoughts out of his head. "That's Willow, Xander, Anya, you know Cordelia, the blond one is Spike. Wait, Spike?" he asked, confused.
"You forgot someone," the blond said, pointing to Buffy. "That's Buffy," Angel explained.
"Hi, Buffy. I'm Kate," the blond said, holding out her hand.
"Hi," Buffy nodded, ignoring the hand. Like she was gonna touch Angel's new girlfriend.
"Who's that?" asked Kate, pointing to Riley.
"This is Riley," Buffy replied, purposely not using the word boyfriend, for Angel's sake. But, of course, Riley said, "Hi! I'm Riley! I'm Buffy's boyfriend!" As Angel grimaced, a crack of thunder went through the air. Riley jumped and hid behind Buffy. "Is it over?" he asked, cowering.
Spike again snickered. "Angel! Old mate! Haven't seen you in a long time!"
Willow quickly filled in, "He can't bite anyone. Has a chip in his head. How are you, Angel?" she asked.
"I'm fine, Willow," he said, smiling. Willow was as sweet as ever.
"Hey, Dead Boy! What are you doing here in Sunnyhell?" asked Xander.
Angel rolled his eyes. "Cordelia had a vision. Said to go to Sunnydale. It started to rain, so we came here."
Kate came over and pecked him on the cheek. "You never told me you had a mansion," Kate said, giggling.
Buffy reddened, and avoided Angel's eyes. The rest of group, however, suddenly became very interested in the fireplace.
"So what's on the telly, mate?" asked Spike, flipping on the TV. A music video blared on. Billy Idol filled the air.
"Turn that nonsense off," Riley said rolling his eyes. "Put on something good."
"I happen to like Billy Idol," Spike replied, a dark look coming over his eyes.
Buffy, sensing something was going to happen, said, "Like what, Riley?"
"Like......Lamp Chops! I love that show!" Riley exclaimed.
"I love that show!" Kate said, jumping up and down.
"Music videos it is," Xander said, rolling his eyes.
Kate went over and sat next to Riley, and they both started to pout. "At least they're quiet," Anya said.
Buffy had decided to take the chair across the room from the one Angel had taken. Xander and Willow were seated on the floor, while Spike and Cordelia had taken one of the couches, with Kate and Riley on the other one.
"So Riley," Spike started, an evil grin forming on his face. "Whatcha been doing these days? Torturing demons? Bothering people?"
"Spike!" Buffy exclaimed, but he ignored her and looked at Riley.
"Well, for your information Mr-I'm-Very-Rude, I have been doing a lot of things. I did do some tests on a couple of demons, I played with my Pokemon cards, and I patrolled with Buffy. We didn't spend much time patrolling though," he said, grinning widely. Angel grimaced.
"So, what else have you been doing with Buffy?" Spike asked. The television was currently being ignored. Buffy looked like she could stake Spike.
Before Riley could reply, Spike started the torture again. "So how do you feel being the Temporary Replacement?"
With that, Buffy lunged herself at Spike, and punched him in the mouth. Angel, being the only one who could restrain her, grabbed her and shoved her back in her chair. He went back to his, muttering to himself, "I just stopped her from killing Spike. What the hell was I thinking?"
Anya and Xander had started laughing, with Willow trying to keep her giggles quiet. Riley replied, "Well, Spike, I do a lot of things with Buffy. We have picnics, and go driving. We have lunch and-"
"That's not exactly what I meant," Spike said, holding his mouth. "Damn, Slayer. That hurt."
"Good," Buffy said, giving him a look. " Why don't we get out of here?"
"Buffy," Willow started, "I don't think that's possible." She was looking out the window.
"Why, Will?" Buffy asked.
"Look."
Buffy went to the window and gasped. It was raining frogs.
*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"You have any food here, Dead Boy?" Xander asked, his stomach growling. It had been hours since he had last eaten.
"Xander, I haven't been here for a year. I doubt it."
"You have any clothes here?" Riley asked. "Mine our shrinking."
"I'll get them," Buffy said, excusing herself. She had to get herself out of here. After everyone had realized they couldn't get out due to the raining of toads and frogs which were hopping all over the lawns of Sunnydale, they had gone to the entertainment source of the mansion, the TV. The Scooby Gang had successfully been ignoring Kate and Riley, who would keep suggesting games for them to play. Duck duck goose was among the games. So the two had been playing the "Picnic Game" on the couch. Riley and Kate had invited Buffy and Angel to join them incessantly, but both had refused politely.
The group had taken the vote on what to watch. Spike wanted to watch solid rock videos, because MTV was having an "All Rock All Day" marathon. Cordelia wanted to watch the new channel that Angel got, "Style". Currently, "Fashion Models-How They Started" was on. Xander wanted to watch "Xena", because as he put it, "Lucy Lawless wearing practically nothing, doing kick-ass slayer moves is educational." Willow and Angel didn't care what they watched, and Riley and Kate voted for "Power Rangers" which was on Fox. Spike had won, and so now the whole group was sitting through rock videos, new and old. Buffy didn't mind watching the rock videos, but the tension between her and Angel was too much.
She slowly walked down the long, dark corridor. Ignoring all of the memories that had floated into her head every time she passed something familiar.. As she was fighting a personal battle with herself, Buffy noticed she was there.
Buffy quickly walked into Angel's old room, and went over to the closet. About 3 shirts were left there, with 4 pairs of pants.
She fingered the leather material. So many memories............ "Stop!" Buffy said out loud. She grabbed 2 of the shirts and started down the hall again.
As she walked, Buffy was fighting an inner battle with her emotions, and losing horribly.
********
"So, are we just going to sit around here and watch tv? That shrinks your brain, and kills cells," Kate said.
"Yes, we are. I like watching this video," Xander said, eyes glued to the TV.
"Gee, I wonder why, Xander," Cordelia said sarcastically. Methods of Mayhem's "Naked" was on, and if you've seen the video, then you'll know why Xander was so glued. Anya was trying to get Xander's attention off the set.
"Besides, my brain cells are already dead," Spike muttered.
"I wanna do something," whined Riley. "Where's Buffy?"
As Riley and Kate sat there and whined, Cordelia's mind was in other places. Everybody was coupled up here. Angel and Kate, Buffy and Riley, Xander and Anya. Xander and Anya. She missed him, surprisingly. The last time she thought that, she had comforted herself by thinking about Doyle. Good old Doyle. So sweet....so nice. She had never really taken the time to know him. And just when Cordelia realized how much he meant to her, he.......He died. He'd left. She usually didn't spend that much time brooding over him, but when she saw other couples out, he came to mind. It was so much easier when she only cared about herself.
"Let's do something," Willow said.
"Like what?" Cordelia asked. "There's nothing to do in this mansion. At all."
"Let's play strip poker," Xander said excitedly. Anya hit him.
"No. Why don't we just go play hide-and-go-seek, guys," Cordelia said sarcastically.
Willow raised her eyebrows. "Guys?"
"I didn't mean-" Cordelia started.
"It's the only thing we can do," Xander said.
"No! I am not playing that bloody children's game," Spike stated.
"Oh, come on, Spike. It'll be fun. Please?" Willow asked.
"No."
"I'll stake you," Cordelia said.
"I'll do it. What won't he do?" Buffy said, coming into the room
"Play Hide-and-go-seek," Willow said. Buffy raised her eyebrows. "It'll be fun! I promise!"
"Fine," Buffy said. Spike sighed. "Bloody hell. I Have too?" The others nodded. "Fine."
Kate and Riley started jumping up and down. "I get to be the counter!! I do!!" Riley shouted.
"Fine, Riley, you can be the counter."
"Alright. I'm going to count to four."
"No, Riley. Count to 100," Willow said patiently.
"I can't count up to there," Riley said. "But I can count to four!"
"I can count to 100," Kate bragged.
"Fine. Kate, you'll count with Riley," Cordelia said. She couldn't believe she was doing this.
"Yay! Yay!" Kate said, jumping up and down.
"Now, go!" And the group scurried out of the room to find their hiding places.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Spike walked down the hallway of the mansion. "Bloody hell," he muttered. As he walked, he passed a bathroom. "Perfect!"
He quickly walked in and pulled open the shower curtain, ready to step in the bath tub. Unfortunately, he almost stepped on Willow.
"Damn, Red. You took my hiding place."
"Sorry, Spike. Find your own hiding place," Willow whispered. "Now GO."
Spike sighed and continued on his way to find the perfect place.
********
Buffy sighed. She couldn't find a hiding place. She didn't want to play this game, but she was anyway. How come she was always being forced into things?
Anya and Xander had hid under Drusilla's old bed, while Willow was in the bathtub. She had by-accident slammed the door open to one of the rooms, which crushed Spike, who was hiding behind the door. She had earned a "Damn Slayer," remark, too.
Cordelia was hiding behind a curtain in the guest room, so not there. Then she had it! The closet! She quickly slipped into Angel's old closet.
"Ow!" she heard the voice as she stepped on something. She quickly looked into the person's face.
Angel's.
"Oh! I'm sorry," she stammered. "I didn't think anyone was in here. I better go." Buffy put her hand the doorknob, ready to step out, when Angel grabbed her, and pulled her back.
"Hey!" she whispered.
"Sorry, Kate just went by."
"Oh, sorry," she apologized. She was facing his chest. Oh God.
Kate continued to sniff out the room, and when she couldn't find anything, left.
"You'll have to stay here. They could come back."
"Ok." This was going to be a long night.
********
Cordelia shifted behind the curtain, being careful not to move it. She had always hated this game. It usually messed up her hair.
She felt a tap on her shoulder. Shoot. "I'm caught. Darn." She turned around, facing him. But it wasn't Riley. Or Kate.
It was Doyle.
"Oh my god." Cordelia quickly shut her eyes. This wasn't happening. She was hallucinating. She opened her eyes again. He was still there.
"Delia." He looked at her.
"Doyle," she gasped. Then she did the only thing she could think of.
She kissed him.
********
"Ow, this hurts," Buffy muttered. This closet was so damn small. And being in it with Angel was not very good.
"Sorry," Angel whispered. He looked into her eyes. "I missed you."
"Angel, this is really not the time."
"Sorry."
"No, wait, this is the time. I've missed you, too. But I have a boyfriend now. And you have Kate."
"Yes, I do."
"I don't understand, Angel. You left me for a 'normal life'. How come your with Kate?" she asked, growing angry.
"I......Buffy. This is not the time or the place."
"Yes it is. Why the hell are you with her, Angel? Did you just leave me because? Are you just to good for me?" Buffy felt tears growing in her eyes.
"No, Buffy. I left because you're too good for me. You need a normal life," Angel said.
Buffy felt the realization dawn upon her. He felt like she was too good for him. Not the opposite. And he wanted her to be happy without him.
"Angel, don't you realize it? I can never have a normal life. I'm the Slayer. Everyone who gets involved will get hurt or killed. And," she she said slowly, "the reason I tried to hurt Spike earlier is because I knew he was right. Spike was right. He knew Riley was only a replacement for you. I don't love him." The tears started coming down.
"Buffy, don't cry. Please don't cry," he comforted her.
"You know what? Last time, my head told me it was the right thing to do. But this time, Angel? I'm letting my heart decide." She pulled his face down, and kissed him.
*******
Cordelia could feel the passion in the kiss. As it pulled away, she looked at him. And slapped him. "I can't believe you!"
Doyle looked surprised at the change of events, but he led her over to a chair.
"How did this happen?" Cordelia asked frantically.
"The Powers That Be decided they needed me. I'm back. That is, if Angel'll take me back. If you'll take me back." He looked into her eyes.
"Doyle. I can't believe you! Why did you do that? Why did you do it? You left Angel and me."
"Delia, you know I had to do it."
"I know."
"Will you take me back?" Doyle looked at her.
"We never had that dinner, did we?" she asked, and kissed him.
*~*~*~*~~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Riley pranced down the hall, with Kate, Anya, Xander, Willow, and Spike behind them. Kate and him had found all of these people. He was so proud of himself! Buffy would be proud, too. He couldn't wait to find her.
They all tiptoed into the guest room, where they saw Cordelia and a man kissing.
"Found you! I found you!" Riley shouted, breaking the moment.
"Who's he?" Xander asked.
"This is Doyle, guys," Cordelia said.
"I'm a friend of Angel's," Doyle explained. And with that, they went off to find Buffy and Angel.
**********
Angel pulled back from the kiss, even though he wanted to stay in it so badly. "Buffy? How can we do this? You have Riley. I have Kate." Buffy looked at him. "Do you really wanna stay with Kate?" Angel shook his head. "And there is no chance I wanna stay with Fishboy. So it's settled. But what about the curse?"
"Permanent. Long story. But no talking now," he said as he pulled her into a kiss.
That's when the door opened.
*************
"Buffy!" Riley shouted. Buffy was in the arms of another man? What the heck was she doing?
"Angel," Kate shouted.
The Scooby Gang was a different story. Spike was laughing his head off. Willow, Xander, Anya, Cordelia, and Doyle were all smiling.
Buffy and Angel looked up sheepishly. "Hi guys," Buffy said uneasily.
*~*~*~*~*~~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~*
The group was sitting in the living room.
"Buffy? HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN???????? I LOVE YOU@!!@" Riley shouted.
"Riley, I'm sorry. We have to break up. I'm in love with Angel," Buffy said calmly.
"ANGEL?????IS THIS TRUE??" Kate asked.
"Sorry, Kate. We have to break up, too." Angel did not look a bit sorry.
"FINE BUFFY! BUT YOU WILL REGRET THIS! COME FIND ME WHEN YOU NEED A REAL MAN!!" Riley shouted, and then he started to cry. He ran out the door. Kate quickly followed, sobbing.
"I'm so happy!" Willow squealed.
"Doyle? You're-you're alive," Angel said.
"I know, man. Oracles let me come back," Doyle said, smiling.
And that same time, it stopped raining frogs.
*******TWO MONTHS LATER********
"So you'll be back next weekend?" Buffy asked, looking at Angel.
"Yes, I promise," Angel said squeezing her one last time. They had to have a relationship where they visited each other on weekend, since Angel still had to help people in LA.
Angel gave her a kiss goodbye, and hopped into his car. He sped off toward LA.
Willow looked at Buffy. "Ready to go back to the dorm?"
"Wait!" Buffy said.
"What?"
"Angel forgot his smoothie," Buffy said, pointing to the smoothie on the bench next to her.
"Buffy, that's your smoothie."
"No....it's......um.... not. Angel discovered his love for strawberries."
"Vampires don't eat."
"Well, they do now," Buffy said, as she raced off toward Xander's car that she had borrowed.
"Isn't it weird that she forgot to bring "Angel's" smoothie along with her," Willow said, and picked up the smoothie and started toward the dorm.
