Buffy Summers sighed happily and snuggled deeper into Angel's embrace. It was Halloween and the whole gang was gathered in Angel's mansion, preparing to watch scary movies. Xander had insisted that they all spent Halloween together and inside and Buffy had to agree. She wanted a quiet, fun night in with her boyfriend and friends. She did not want to spend it hunting demons. Xander had also insisted in using Angel's house since it was parent-free and quite fitting for Halloween. To be honest it gave Buffy the creeps slightly. She could cope with demons and vampires, but scary movies, an old mansion and thunder and lighting all combined made her a little edgy. Angel seemed to sense this because he slipped his arms around her comfortingly and pulled her into a hug.

'Hey! No PDA!' Cordy complained, 'It's Halloween.'

'Right,' Doyle agreed nodding, 'we want blood, gore and death.'

'Yup,' Cordy said happily. She paused when she realised what exactly she was agreeing with, 'Ew! No! That is not what we want.'

'That's not good,' Oz said calmly, 'because Doyle and Xander rented out Hell Raiser, Nightmare on Elm Street and some other horror stuff.'

'You were there too!' Xander exclaimed.

'Uh huh, but I didn't pick them. And in the interest of my life, I'm not going to be blamed for that,' Oz said, totally deadpanned.

'Lets just watch the bloody movies,' Spike said impatiently.

'Bloody being the word,' Buffy muttered.

'They're not too bad,' Angel assured Buffy. He wasn't sure why she was so worried, but he wanted to do everything in his power to calm her. He wanted her to have fun.

'You've seen them?' she asked him in surprise.

'Hey, I've been around a while. I'm bound to have seen some things.'

'You seen Dracula?' Willow asked with interest.

Angel shuddered slightly, 'I hated that movie. So inaccurate and-'

'Bloody stupid,' Spike added annoyed.

'What is it with you vamps hating 'Dracula?'' Xander teased, 'We should do a survey, Buff. Before we kill 'em, we should ask all the vamps if they like 'Dracula'.'

'Great idea,' Doyle said, rolling his eyes slightly.

'Can we please watch the dam movie!' Spike said, exasperated.

'Food,' Cordy said frowning, 'we need food.'

'All here,' Willow told her cheerfully as she began emptying packets of junk food into bowls.

Buffy sighed and sank down onto the couch, pulling Angel down with her.

'What's wrong?' he asked softly, making it so that only she could hear him.

'Nothing,' she told him shrugging.

He quirked an eyebrow and shook his head, 'That's not an answer,' he told her firmly.

Buffy laughed slightly. 'I guess I'm just nervous. Halloween's up to now have been pretty bad,' she told him, 'I got turned in an 18th century girl, I got-'

'I get the idea,' Angel told her gently, 'but not this time. You're going to have fun. And we're going to spend it together.'

Buffy brightened slightly and grinned.

'Now,' he said gently, 'I'm kinda new to this whole celebrating Halloween thing.'

'You've never celebrated it?' she asked in disbelief.

'I was catholic when I was human, Buffy,' he reminded her, 'I wasn't allowed to celebrate it.'

Buffy's eyes widened slightly in surprise.

'Good,' she said happily, 'you get to experience something new with me.'

'What do you mean?' he asked curiously, knowing that her words had more meaning then one.

'Well,' she said, slightly embarrassed, 'it's just that everything we do you've pretty much done before. This is something new to you. I get to be the one who-'

'Sweetheart,' Angel said softly, cutting her off with a finger to her lips, 'everything I do with you is new to me because it's you I'm doing it with. And that makes everything different, better.'

'Really?' she said, touched.

'Really,' he assured her, cupping her chin gently and kissing her lovingly.

'Er, the movie's about to start? Buffy?' Willow began tentatively.

'Oh, right,' Buffy said blushing. Angel just laughed and manoeuvred so that he was now lying on his side, stretched across the couch. Buffy joined him in an instant. He smiled at her and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer.

'Sure you're okay with watching the movie?' Angel asked, still concerned.

'I'm fine,' she assured him, 'Halloween just freaks me out a little. But since I have you…' she trailed off giggling.

Angel laughed slightly and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead.

'Jesus Christ, someone separate them,' Doyle moaned.

Buffy and Angel both turned to glare at him before reluctantly focusing their attention on the T.V screen.

Buffy relaxed and allowed herself to slip into the film's plot. She didn't even know what it was called but it looked good.

*******

Angel glanced down at Buffy to find her engrossed in the film. Every time something dramatic happened she would jump slightly and press herself further into his arms. Angel didn't mind one bit. He'd already seen the film and knew how it turned out. He was more content just to watch Buffy.

By the time it had finished it was 11 p.m. Buffy turned around to face Angel and planted a gentle kiss on his lips.

'I take it you enjoyed yourself?' Angel said laughing.

'It was great. I just can't believe that only two people survived though!' Buffy grumbled.

'That's a horror movie for you,' Xander said dryly.

'Now we get to carve pumpkins!' Willow said happily.

'Carve pumpkins?' Cordy repeated, 'I've never carved a pumpkin. I just buy ready-made ones.'

'Same here,' everyone chorused except for Angel.

'I've never carved one either,' Willow said, 'but I bought the pumpkins and I'm sure it'll be fun.'

'I think it's great idea,' Oz said supportingly.

'Angel, have you ever carved a pumpkin?' Buffy asked suddenly.

'Back when I was human,' he told her thoughtfully, 'I think I can remember what to do.'

Buffy's response was to bury her head into his chest and wrap her arms around him tightly. Angel responded by wrapping his arms around her and kissing her gently.

'Okay, lets get to work!' Spike said enthusiastically. He stopped abruptly, catching himself, and saying quickly, 'Not that I'm excited or anything. Coz, I'm a vamp. I'm tough and mean and… I need help! I'm becoming… unevil!'

'We could stake you if you want,' Cordy offered sweetly.

'Thanks, but I'll pass on that one,' Spike muttered sarcastically.

'The pumpkins?' Willow reminded everyone.

They all got to work and with Angel's help managed to carve some fairly decent eyes. The problem came when they couldn't decide what kind of mouth to have.

Buffy, Doyle, Xander and Spike wanted to have a wicked, jagged grin, whereas Willow, Oz and Cordy wanted a more traditional smile.

'The pumpkin has to be evil! It's Halloween!' Buffy argued.

'Pumpkins can be nice and… friendly,' Willow stammered.

'We are NOT giving it a bloody happy smile,' Spike said loudly.

'But it has to match the eyes. They're so cute and sweet,' Cordy said matter-of-factly.

'Cordy has a crush on a pumpkin,' Xander teased in a singsong voice.

'Spike, if you have any desire to prove your evilness, feel free to eat Xander,' Cordy snapped.

'What about Angel?' Buffy said suddenly.

'Jeez, you want me to eat him too?' Spike asked in disbelief.

'No,' Buffy said sounding frustrated, 'I mean, where'd he go? He was here a second ago…'

'Yea, coz you were staring at his ass,' Cordy said bluntly.

'I was not,' Buffy said blushing.

'Yea you were. When he was bending over.'

'Hey, he's my boyfriend and I have a right to stare at his ass if I want to,' Buffy said defensively.

Angel chose that moment to return, arms loaded with candles. Everyone turned to find him leaning against the doorway, eyebrows raised and an amused expression playing on his face.

Buffy turned bright red and looked away, muttering, 'I have to, er, go to the bathroom.'

She stood up and hurried towards the door, far to embarrassed to look at Angel as she walked past him. She'd only just got past him when he was grabbing her hand in his and pulling her into his arms.

'Don't be embarrassed sweetheart,' he whispered in her ear, 'I don't mind you staring. I know I watch you often enough.'

Buffy blushed even more but worked up the courage to look at him. He was smiling warmly and Buffy could see the honesty and love in his eyes.

He brushed his lips against hers very gently before pulling her back into the lounge, settling down on the floor with her curled up in his lap.

'We have a problem,' Willow told Angel, 'we can't decide what kind of smile it should have. We want it friendly but spooky.'

Angel grinned and said firmly, 'Give it a happy smile.'

'That wont be spooky,' Doyle grumbled.

'It will be when it's finished,' Angel told them mysteriously.

He turned to look at Buffy, whose head was still buried into his chest, 'Help me light some candles sweetheart?' he asked her softly.

Buffy looked up at him and grinned, nodding her head.

By the time they were done, as Angel had predicted, it all looked very spooky, but Buffy felt calmer then earlier. Maybe it was Angel's presence, or just the fact that she was fully enjoying herself.

'We still have one left over,' Buffy informed him as they rejoined the circle. The gang had almost completed the pumpkin now.

'Good,' Angel said smiling as he pulled her back down into his lap.

'All done,' Cordy said proudly as they all stepped back to admire their work.

'Still looks bloody happy,' Spike muttered.

Angel laughed and lit the last candle. Everyone watched with curiosity as he walked to the pumpkin and placed the candle inside it, causing the eyes and mouth to light up. The effect was truly enchanting.

'Okay, now it looks spooky,' Xander said happily.

'Where'd you learn that?' Buffy asked.

Angel shrugged slightly and slipped his arms back around her.

Willow yawned and said, 'Are people ready for bed?'

Buffy had managed to convince Angel that it would be fun if they all slept in their sleeping bags in the lounge, like a sleepover. Angel had not been able to say no after seeing the excitement on her face, but he was beginning to regret it now. How he was going to survive a night in the same room as Xander and Spike was beyond him. And he really hoped no one snored.

'Uh huh,' Buffy said happily as she stretched slightly and reached for her sleeping bag. Angel, to everyone's surprise, did actually own a sleeping bag, although he hadn't really told them how that had come about.

'Now we need to sort out sleeping arrangements,' Willow said sensibly.

Angel decided to let them sort it out themselves. They seemed to know what they were doing, whereas he didn't have a clue. He didn't really care where he went as long as he was next to Buffy and as far away from Xander as possible.

He ended up being placed on the end, next to Buffy. He couldn't help feeling a little jealous about the fact that Xander would be sleeping on her other side, but he didn't say anything.

He slipped into his sleeping bag after getting changed into some sweat pants. He reached over and took Buffy's hand in his, kissing it gently.

'Night beloved,' he said quietly.

'Night Angel. Love you,' Buffy said smiling.

'I love you too,' he replied, and Buffy could hear the sleepiness in his voice.

She waited until everyone had said their good nights and the lights had been turned off before slipping out of her sleeping bag and into Angel's. He jumped slightly in surprise before grinning and wrapping his arms around her tightly, allowing her to rest her head on his chest.

'Sweet dreams,' he murmured.

'I will now,' she replied before closing her eyes and allowing sleep to take hold of her.
