The rain kept on falling. Cooped up in Angel's apartment, Buffy was experiencing a serious case of the rainy day blues. She groaned.
"I'm bored." Angel sighed. "Buffy, find a book to read or something. Either way, there's nothing you can do until the rain stops. We can't have a picnic in the rain."
"Fine. Just promise me one thing, though," She replied with a smirk on her lips. He nodded, not really paying much attention. "If I get an idea, you'll go along with it."
"Of course, Buffy, I'd be happy to." Angel mumbled in reply, striving to find a more comfortable position in his chair.
Five minutes later, Buffy returned holding a large umbrella that Angel assumed belong to Cordelia. "Where are you going?" He asked, glancing out the window. "It's still pouring down."
She walked over to the window and pushed it open, sticking her hand out. "I know. It doesn't matter though, we need rain for this."
"For what?" Angel asked suspiciously, knowing he wouldn't like her answer. He was happy. The rain, to him, was just another natural phenomenon; a necessity. He enjoyed it.
Buffy bounced over and pulled him to his feet. "We're going for a walk in the rain!" she squealed, dragging him to the door. "Ready?"
"No, not really," Angel grumbled. "Can you let me get my car keys?"
"Angel, we aren't going for a drive."
He looked at her. "You mightn't be, but I for one-"
"Give it up, Angel, we're going together. Indulge me this whim," she smiled and batted her eyelashes at him. He groaned.
"Do I ever not," Buffy pouted. "Fine. Fifteen minutes, then we're coming back. I was quite comfortable there..."

The rain fell only marginally softer by the time they stepped outside. Buffy smiled and inhaled deeply. "Ahh," she sighed. "Don't you love the smell of rain, Angel?"
He smiled at his girlfriend. "Come on, Buffy. Where did you want to go, specifically?"
"Nowhere," Buffy replied. "I always used to go walking in the rain when I was little. Then we'd stop and play around and get wet," she grinned at him. "Like we will!"
Angel narrowed his eyes at her as the sky began to empty itself. "Buffy!" he shouted over the rattling as raindrops splattered on the cement. "Let's go inside!"
She shook her head. "No! I want to play out here!" Running, she waited for Angel to catch up and tossed the umbrella in the alcove of their building. "Catch me!"
A couple walked past them snuggled together under their own umbrella, smiling at Buffy and Angel. Angel flashed them a grin before speeding up to catch her elbow. He spun her around, spun both of them around as the rain fell around them. Buffy burst out laughing, leaning in slightly and pressing her lips to Angels, giggling as she tasted the rain. By now, it was bucketing down and the thunder was increasing, and the clouds were cast a pale shade of green over the ominous black.
Buffy frowned. "The clouds are green!" She laughed, dragging him into the street where a steam was developing very close to the road. It was only faint, leaving Buffy to pretend she was dancing on clouds.
"It means hail!" Angel shouted, waving for her to come back. She wrinkled her nose and walked closer to hear him. Before she could ask him to repeat himself, a golf-ball sized hailstone smashed down beside her.
Squealing, she launched herself at Angel, only barely giving him time to prepare. "You're cold and wet!" she observed. "So am I!" He gave her a look. "Fine, rain makes me revert to childhood."
Angel gave a half-smile. "We should get inside. You don't want to get hit by this stuff, it isn't pretty." She sighed.
"But I want to stay out here and watch," she protested.
"Watch from inside, I don't want you hurt."
"But-" Angel put a finger to her lips and glared at her. "Fine. We'll go inside." They walked under a shelter, hand-in-hand. "Can I have hot chocolate when we get in?" He nodded.
"And a warm blanket?" He nodded again. "And will you read to me until I fall asleep?" Angel smirked.
"How many more requests are you gonna give me?"
She grinned impishly. "Only about a thousand."

Later that night, they lay in bed listening to the rhythmic, soothing pattering of the rain on the roof. Buffy buried deeper underneath the doona.
"I love the rain," she mumbled sleepily.
"I love you," Angel replied, smiling as her eyes slid closed and her body relaxed. He wrapped his arms around her smiled as she jumped slightly when the thunder cracked across the sky.
Buffy shifted closer again, "Love you too," she whispered very softly and sleepily, so that the words were only meaningful for who they were intended. Angel kissed her forehead.
"Go to sleep, beloved," he murmured into her neck. "Go to sleep."
