"This is so cool," Buffy said, tossing a handful of hot, buttery popcorn into her mouth. "It's Saturday night, I'm not in Sunnydale, I'm just happily curled up watching movies with Angel."
In Sunnydale, Willow smiled. "Just watching movies, or is there some 'stuff' going down?"
Buffy chuckled. "There may be a little stuff."
She smiled as Angel walked into the room carrying a bottle of sparkling grape juice. He handed her two glasses and began to pour.
The phone slid off her shoulder and landed on the floor with a bang. "Buffy?" Willow's voice sounded tinny as it floated up from the rug below. "Did you just drop me?"
Angel bent down and picked up the phone, handing it back to Buffy. "Yeah, sorry Wills. Angel's back."
"Which means you hang up now, I guess?" She asked with a smile.
"Mhmm." Buffy groaned. "Sorry Willow, it's just-"
Willow knew the score. "Time with Angel is precious and you can talk to me anytime?" she guessed. "It's cool Buffy. Besides, Xander's invited us all over to Giles' for a...something."
Buffy was suspicous. "A Xander something? Are you insured?" she joked. "No, I hope you have fun, Will. Be careful, Witch."
"As always, Slayer!"
The two bid goodbyes, and Buffy hung up, tossing the cordless phone onto the couch. She winced as it bounced right off, landing on the floor.
"Thats twice!" she called in a mock-announcers voice. "Third time and it's down for the count!"
Angel just smiled blissfully at her. "What first?"
"Wha?"
"Sleepy Hollow or the Sixth Sense?" Angel asked, waving the video cases around before her.
"Oh, um...Sixth Sense?" Angel leant over to push it in.
"Oh! Wait! Which one's scarier? We'll watch that last."
Angel gave her a look. "I have absolutely no idea, Buffy. You pick." She stared at him helplessly and watched as his eyes floated to...
"Sleepy Hollow it is!" She declared, tossing him the video.
As soon as he was sitting down again, she was curled up next to him with her head in his lap. Angel smiled at her and ran his fingers through her hair absently. She sighed happily; there was nothing better then having someone play with your hair.
"Angel? Which one's the evil one?"
"I don't know, baby."
"Oh. But not that girl, right? 'Cause she doesn't look evil."
Angel made a non-commital sound.
"Does she?" Buffy prodded.
"No, Buffy, she doesn't look evil." He should have known Buffy would be one of those people who talked their way through a movie- she had that....look. "I think it's-" Angel placed a finger against her lips. "Shh. Just watch."
Thirty minutes later, Angel had given up watching the movie entirely. Buffy was preoccupied in painting like B's on his toenails (after she'd fallen asleep, she couldn't be bothered trying to pick up the plot again) and Angel was content to just sit there and read.
Buffy pushed the book aside and sat down on Angel's lap. "Done! Do you like them?" Angel didn't say anything, just smiled and nodded. "What now?" She trailed a finger over his lips. "Hmm," she leant over and kissed him. Which lasted until she needed to breathe. " I know you wanted to stay in tonight, but can we go for a walk? I'm getting cabin-fever.
" He sighed and got to his feet. "Lead the way," he smiled, slipping his arm around her waist. "You lead, I'll follow."
Together, they headed towards the pier, somewhere that had become one of their favourite places.
"Do you want ice-cream too?"
Buffy stood on her tiptoes to kiss him, but couldn't quite reach. Angel put his other arm around her and lifted her off the ground. Her feet dangled beneath her. "Yes please!" she laughed, giving him a chaste kiss. "You buying?"
"As usual," he drawled, "I'm just your cash flow."
She leant into him. "No, I'd love you even if you lived in a cardboard box."
"Really?" he asked, sceptically raising an eyebrow.
Buffy laughed. "Yeah. Just don't move anytime soon, because I happen to be very fond of that apartment!"
"Oh, I don't know...maybe if I lived in a box under a bridge you wouldn't order me around. And I know for a fact you wouldn't have me bring out my credit card nearly so much..." he paused, grinning at her expression. "And I wouldn't have to spend so much money on flowers and gifts..and I'm guarenteed never to have to share a bed with someone who kicks me in my sleep-"
"Hey! I'll have you know that I'm a very sound sleeper! I never move."
Angel patted her shoulder. "The important thing is that you believe that,"
Buffy didn't reply. She punched him instead. "Thats for teasing me! And that's for making fun of me! And thats for..teasing me more! And that's for...I'm out of things to hate you for."
"Good!" Angel said, "Because if you hated me, I wouldn't be able to kiss you now."
Buffy gave him an innocent look. "I don't hate you, but I will soon if you don't-" she found herself unable to speak as Angel pressed his lips to her. "Kiss me."
