Matrimonial Bliss

by April

Summary: Set after my last story..Future Bliss. Basically picks up about a year after the last story, where its time for another wedding, this time between the reunited lovers. I wasn't planning on doing a sequel, but I'm in major need of fluff right now...so there! You don't really need to read that story to understand this one, but it might help to explain some of the details, since I want to make this pure fluff, and don't want to get to heavy into the major issues.
Disclaimer: Not mine...if they were this sequel wouldn't be happening, cuz all would be right in the Buffyverse and Riley wouldn't exist!
Spoilers: None really.
Rating: if you can watch the show, you can most likely read this.
Distribution: ask me first
Feedback: Yes please? I'll do an imitation of the Carlton dance from Fresh prince for it!
Dedication This is for Lisa L., who is probably the only person I can speak to face to face without her thinking I'm a total freak for my obsession with Buffy and Angel, cuz she agrees with me. I'm writing this for her cuz I agree that fluff is probably the best thing that was ever created on the 'net. Yay! = ' ) This is also for all those on the list, you all know that you can never have enough fluff!

March 26, 2006

Buffy Summers took a nervous breath, her hands going to her abdomen as if to control the thousand butterflies that seemed to have taken up residence there. Rolling over, she gazed at the empty spot beside her in the king size bed. A slim hand unconsciously reached out to touch the scarlet sheets, missing the other occupant. She'd slept alone in this bed for almost two weeks. "No more," she whispered out loud, a smile gracing her full lips.

Sitting up in the bed, propping herself up with pillows and drawing the light comforter over her knees, she became almost giddy at the prospects of the day. She was getting married. Finally. To her one true love, Angel. She had thought it long over between the two of them, having long ago come to terms with the fact that they could never be together the way it had stood with them for so long. There had been just too much heartache involved, though Buffy had at times wondered if the heartache of separation was equal to that of being together. That was over though, she reminded herself. Today opened a new chapter in both their lives.

Buffy still remembered the pain that had preceded this happiness, they both did, recognizing that they both needed to have it out in the open. The past year hadn't been the joy ride she'd always imagined it would have been at finding out that Angel was human and his consequent proposal. They'd had rough spots, but they'd worked through them like any normal couple. Normal couple. Just the thought brought another smile to her face.

After Angel had proposed, they had stayed in London for a while, trying to get to know one another again. Then, the two had closed up her apartment, shipping her furniture and items to Sunnydale, before heading to Ireland for two weeks. Angel had wanted to visit Galway first, the town he'd grown up in, and those first days had been tinged with regret and sadness, but then they'd traveled on to Waterford and Dublin, spending the remaining time in blissful happiness.

When they had finally returned to the closed Hellmouth, they'd been welcomed with open arms by all their loved ones, including Doyle and Cordelia, who had taken up residence outside the town. For the first few weeks back home, Angel and Buffy had stayed at their home while looking for one of their own. When they'd seen the large, well-kept Victorian, complete with turret, they'd known they'd found the house they'd wanted. It had been a little big for them, true, but with all their friends and the children they one day hoped to fill the house with, they knew it was perfect.

Soon after seeing it, they'd bought it, and had moved in instantly, consecrating their new home with love. Every single item that they'd brought into their home, whether large pieces of furniture or small knick-knacks, had been hand picked and placed lovingly in its place. After seven months in the house, just about everything was completed. The first level was done, the kitchen, the living room, the study and the rec room all completely finished. The third, which housed the finished attic that had been transformed to a training room was done as well. On the second, only the master and guest bedrooms and baths were done, the other 4 rooms waiting to be filled with children.

Her thoughts were interrupted as a soft knock sounded on the door and Willow peeped her head in. "Hey, you up?"

"Hi Wills. Yea, come on in." Buffy glanced at the clock as the red head entered the room. The glowing red digits told her that it was a little after 9. "Why are you up so early? I would have thought that you'd be sleeping in as much as possible."

"Internal clock. Alexa Anne is usually up way before this," replied Willow, perching on Buffy's bed, speaking of her 7 month old daughter. "You nervous?"

"I know I shouldn't be, I mean, Angel and I have been living together for the past year, but yea. Extremely. Can you believe it Will? I'm getting married!"

Willow smiled. "I know. I'm way happy for you. We all are." Willow's serious words settled on them for a moment, before wide grins broke out on both of the girls' faces. "Come on, we're up, we might as well be productive. Let's go make your last breakfast as a single girl."

Buffy laughed and threw the blankets off her legs. "I'm up for that. Waffles?"

"What else are you supposed to put the syrup in?" replied Willow as she headed out the bedroom door. "Your mom and the girls should be here at one to take us to the church. What do we have to do till then?"

Buffy got the waffle maker from the cupboard, placing it on the island and plugging it in as she checked off the things she had to do. "I want to change the sheets to the dark blue silk...do my nails...spend time with you?"

Willow rewarded her with a great grin as she looked back from the refridgerator. "Good answer. I know I've told you this a bunch since you came home, but it's good to have you back. I missed you."

"Aww Will. I missed you too. Our talks on the phone just weren't the same. But I'm back, for good, and marrying Angel!"

Willow giggled. "Was I this goofy when I married Oz?"

"Extremely. I'm not sure, but I think it' a right of passage for brides."

Part 2

For the first time since this morning, Buffy was alone. Her mom and the attendents had gone to check on their families and the proceedings, leaving her in the dressing room. Taking a deep breath, she moved to the mirror that stood ready to give her its final verdict on her own appearance.

Was that really her? She'd seen herself in this dress a few times, but each time she hadn't really felt real in it. But the person standing on the other side of the mirror, was a bride. From the sleek upsweep of her hair with the filmy white veil tucked into the pile of blonde, to the delicate touch of make-up done by Cordy's make-up artist. And her dress, it was what every little girl dreamed of when they were younger. The bodice was tight and simple, forming a V as the sleeves left her shoulders bare. The wide princess-style skirt was the same filmy white as her veil.

How did that saying go? You'd think she'd have remembered it after being maid of honor in 3 weddings. Something new, which would be her dress, something blue, her garter, something borrowed, her mother's pearl earrings. Something old. Her hand flying to her neck, she moved to the bag she'd brought with her. With triumphant glee that was curiously like her look after a good kill, she retrieved the flat box from her bag, preparing to open it just as the door opened and her friends poured in. Lanie, Cordelia, and Willow were wearing the deep blue sheaths that had been picked for her attendants. Anya and Amy wore simple dresses, Anya in green, Amy in purple.

"Hey, what's in the box?" asked Anya, coming over to the bride.

"Its my something old," she answered cryptically, turning to Lanie, who had been chosen as maid of honor. Buffy had spoken with Willow and Cordelia, the bridesmaids, who had agreed with her choice. She handed the box to the younger Slayer, who looked at her curiously. "Would you put it on me?" she requested.

Lanie nodded and opened the box, giving a small gasp as she got a look at what was inside. "This is beautiful."

"Thank you. It was the first present Angel ever gave me. The night we first met." Buffy's eyes closed in remembrance for a brief moment as Lanie clasped the slim chain around her neck, relishing the feel of the cool metal against her skin. A hand came up, pressing it closer. "That was nine years ago this September. Do you think it qualifies as old?"

"Buffy? Are you ready?" Giles was standing uneasily in the door, dignified in the tux he wore.

Anya and Amy gave Buffy encouraging smiles and touches of cheeks before exiting the room to take their seats at the front of the church. "I think so. How does Angel look?"

"Nervous. We'd best not keep him waiting."

Buffy brought the veil down over her face, and took the small bouquet of pink tipped white roses from Willow, before taking Giles's arm as they lined up behind the girls. "I'm as ready as I'll ever be."

"Buffy, I-I'm very proud of you. And y-you look very stunning today."

"Thanks Giles." The small group proceeded to the doors leading into the church, when Buffy suddenly stilled. "Giles? What...What if he suddenly decides...?"

"I highly doubt you'd have to worry about that. He loves you more than life itself. I think he's proved that more than once." The wedding march began, and Buffy faintly realized that the occupants of the church had stood, looking at the doorway where she and Giles now stood. "Ready?"

Her eyes caught Angel's, standing beside the minister, a peaceful, happy look on his face. Without breaking that eye contact, she answered. "More than anything."

Angel's breath caught as she stepped into view. She was a goddess, he didn't deserve her. Didn't deserve her love, or her forgiveness. Then her hazel eyes looked into his own, and all his worries melted away. They would finally be together. He watched, mesmerized, as she came up the aisle toward him. For a brief moment, he was reminded of the daydream he'd had right before her prom, was this what it was? a dream? Had the past year been just a dream?

Her hand slipped into his larger one, and he looked down at her, his eyes clouded with disbelief. Her lips formed the words 'I love you', and the cloud disappeared as he squeezed her hand, turning to look at the priest.

Buffy barely heard the ceremony. All she could concentrate on was the man beside her. Before she knew it, Lanie was taking her bouquet as Angel turned to her, a silver band in his hand.

"Buffy, I don't know what I did to deserve you, but whatever it was, I'm glad. Because you're my other half. You've helped me to keep going, to keep fighting. You've had more faith in me, than I've had in myself. You were the sun in my life. You're my whole life. My best friend, my partner, my love. And so I pledge, my strength, my soul and my love to you eternally."

She fought back tears as he slipped the wide band on her finger. The silver glowed against her tan skin, the etching of a claddagh caught the light off the candles nearby. Her words were thick with emotion. "Angel, I've loved you from the moment that I met you. Even when things seemed to be going wrong, I never stopped. You were always the one that I would run to when I was unable to cope. You know me so well. You know that even though I try to act strong, its sometimes just an act. So with that, I pledge to you, my strength, my heart, my love, and my soul to you, eternally."

"Do you Angel, take Elizabeth Anne Summers for your lawful wife?"

"I do."

"And do you Elizabeth, take Angel O'Roarke for your lawful husband?"

"I do."

"Then by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Slowly, gently, Angel lifted the veil back, his hands gently cupping her cheeks. "I love you."

"I love you."

Their lips met then, sweetly clinging as the church applauded, cheering the two on. After a few moments, they broke apart, smiling softly at each other. Facing the church, they started down the aisle, their attendants filing behind them. The newly married couple then stepped into the warm spring air, the sunset painting a kaleidoscope of colors on the horizon. And as they stepped from the church, hand in hand, they knew that a whole new life was awaiting them.
