Old Friends and Old Songs

by April

Disclaimer: Not mine, the song isn't either; it belongs to the eagles and whoever wrote it.
Feedback: Um I guess. I don't know if its worth any though
Note: this is my reply to Andrea's challenge fic; I know I said I probably wouldn't send any out, but I used works and my muse struck and this was the result. The challenge was to have (1)leather pants, (2) the song hotel california by the eagles, (3) someone reading a smutty book, and spike helping out w/out the implant (no riley in this world)
Summary: Not much of one. Its set in S5 of Buffy and S2 of Angel. ( he's human w/ superior strength.)

Buffy Summers, college student and slayer, sighed as she exited the girl's bathroom and made the short walk to her dorm room door. It was just a month into her sophomore year at UC Sunnydale, and her and Willow were both rooming together again.

Neither one had wanted to risk getting roommates like the ones they'd began their freshman year with. Plus they were used to each other, and it was a hell of a lot easier having a roommate who knew your secrets. Willow knew why Buffy was out late at night, just as Buffy knew what was in the padlocked trunk at the end of Willow's bed.

Working out the kinks in her back and shoulders, she opened the door to their room, stopping dead in the doorway at the sight before her. Willow was sitting cross legged on the floor, with Spike, and they were playing with Play-doh. "Um, Willow? What is going on?"

"Oh hey Buffy," replied Willow, looking up for a moment as she carefully shaped a long string on twisted red and blue Play-doh. "I was working on that science thingy I told you about, and Spike showed up. So he's helping."

"Oh." Buffy stepped fully into her room, shutting the door firmly behind her, as she dropped of her slaying bag and headed to the mini-fridge. Rummaging into the back for the yogurt she knew was in there somewhere, she tried not to laugh. Her attempt was unsuccessful, for as she turned around, Spike was concentrated on rolling out a long snake. "Um, no offense Spike, but this has got to be one of the weirdest experiences of my life."

The blond vampire looked at her offended. "Sod off Slayer. I'm helping Red here on her school project. I was coming to help you patrol, but you took off earlier than usual."

Buffy nodded, somewhat absently, as she picked her way across the Play-doh ridden floor and onto her bed. She still didn't quite understand what had made Spike switch sides. He'd shown up around Thanksgiving last year, and after some initial misgivings, he'd proven to be an asset to the Slayerettes, what with Angel in LA.

"Sorry if I took your fun out of the evening. But you seem to be enjoying yourself."

"Why did you leave so early tonight Buffy?" asked Willow, leaning back against her bed. "You were off slaying just as the sunset. You don't usually leave until 9 or so."

"I needed to burn off some energy. Angel called earlier. He's coming into town tomorrow. Angel coming equals hyper Buffy. Hyper Buffy not usually a good thing."

"The poof is coming? Oh bloody hell. What is it this time? Apocolypse? Nasty demons that are going after you?"

Buffy shook her head, a smile gracing her lips. "Nope, just coming for a visit. Its been almost a month since I was last in LA. We've both been pretty busy lately."

"I guess we're not going to see you much this weekend?" asked Willow.

Buffy blushed. Angel had gotten his humanity returned to him around their spring break the year before. Unlike the last time, which she'd thankfully remembered after a series of dreams, he had been allowed to keep both his healing properties and his strength. They tried to make it a point to see each other every other weekend or so, but with things at school and an upsweep in business in LA, it had been hard to take out time to visit. "Pretty much I guess. Unless there's some big evil that crops up. But we're still planning on going to the party at the Bronze tomorrow night."

"That's good, cuz Oz is coming too…what with the full moon starting on Saturday and all, he got off the tour for a few days." Willow's face brightened with the prospect of seeing Oz, whose band had landed a gig opening for a slightly bigger band. He was away a lot, but they kept in touch lots.

The next night:

"Is this absolutely necessary Buffy?" lamented Angel, as he stepped from the bathroom in the mansion. He leaned against the doorway as he watched his blonde headed girlfriend dig in the closest that held her clothes.

She turned, giving him a look over her shoulder that instantly stopped any further protests. "Yes, it is. We never hang out with the whole gang whenever you're here. Plus Oz is back for a few days, so we want to all get together."

"All right, all right. We'll go." He held up his hands in surrender. "You do realize we're meeting the gang there in about 30 minutes right?"

"Of course I do! My make-up is done, all I have to do is decide what to wear and fix my hair."

"Buffy, I've been with you for over 4 years. I know how long it takes for you to pick out an outfit."

Buffy gave a low growl as she turned from the closest, hands on hips, two articles of clothing grasped in each hand. "Ha, guess what. I have one picked already." Marching to the bed, she lay the top down as she took her black leather pants and pulled them on, then the white tanktop and the sheer blue sweater that went over top of it. In seconds her boots were one, and she ran a brush through her hair.

"Baby?" Angel's voice was questioning.

"Hmm?"

"Um, you know that we match right?"

She turned, dazzling him with a bright smile. "Uh huh." Her gaze traveled down from his face to the dark blue button up shirt that was paired with the leather pants that she loved so much. Reaching up for a moment, she pressed a kiss to his lips, pulling away and grabbing her bag before it could go further. "Come on, I don't want to be late."

The Bronze:

***

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas rising through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy, and my sight grew dimmer
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell

Buffy and Angel paused for a moment in the entrance to the packed club, looking over the groups of teenagers till they found their friends in the back of the club where the couches were situated. Hands entwined, they made their way to them. Angel sat down in the one empty chair, and pulled Buffy down on his lap, who snuggled in comfortably.

After there was a chorus of hellos, Buffy tilted her head to her friends. "Um, anyone want to explain why their playing this stuff?"

"Ick, no clue," replied Xander. "What do they think we are? Forty-somethings?"

And I was thinking to myself,
'This could be Heaven or this could be Hell'
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor, I thought I heard them say…

"Anya! What are you reading!?" Buffy exclaimed, just noticing the cover of the book that the ex-demon was reading as she cuddled into Xander's side. On the front was a half naked man with long hair, groping some girl in one of those old gowns that displayed plenty of cleavage.

"Its an orgasm book. I figure if I can't be at home with Xander, I might as well enjoy myself."

Buffy made a disgusted face and turned plaintively at Angel. "It isn't that great to dance to, but…."

He didn't allow her to finish. In moments her feet were on the floor and she was following him, trying to keep her eyes off his tight butt as they made their way to the dance floor.

Buffy's arms slid around Angel's shoulders, finding their way into the hair at the nape of his neck. They bodies were flush against each other, the leather of their pants creating a delicious friction between the two. His arms held on tight to her waist as he gazed down at her, almost burning her with the intensity of his stare.

"How about we cut out early tonight and go back to the mansion?"

Buffy giggled softly. "Angel, we just got here," she reprimanded, even as she rolled her hips into his. "Give it at least and hour and THEN we can leave."
