"Hello, Angel Investigations. We help the...hopefully hopeless." A dark and soothing voice talked into the receiver. The voice seemed so laid back, free of the ever wheeling feeling that was monopolizing and plaguing the person on the other end of the line.
Buffy paused, not knowing what to say. Was she to say she knew where their boss was, did they care? Did they notice he was gone in the first place? Had Buffy ever been this tongue tied in her intire life, much less one day?
"Ah. Hey... Mr. Man, do you know where your boss is?" she asked not even noticing the tension in her own voice.
"And...Miss thing, why would you like to know?" he asked right back in return.
"What are we on 'Who's line is it anyway,' sorry, been there, done that, deja vu ain't what it used to be. I'm not playing Twenty Questions, I'm playing 'If you don't tell me what I want to know, Buffy's going to gut you from head to toe.' It is so catchy, isn't it?" She sighed as she understood what she had just said. "Now, what do you say?" she asked calmly and understandingly.
"And you think you could?..." then he revised what she had said in his own mind. "Did you say Buffy? Buffy as in Angel's girl?"
"How many other Buffy's do you know? And to clarify, not just Angel's girl, the Slayer, a chic that is as mad as hell and is not in the position to mess with the likes of you." She blared into the phone as she drove up the highways from Sunnydale to LA. She dangerously curved left, narrowly avoiding an accident as she sped up another 10 MPH. She was now going 80 MPH and was not slowing down. She needed to get to Angel and she wasn't waiting for anyone.
~*~*~*~
"Who's on the phone?" Fred asked her boyfriend meekly as she shuffled from one foot to the other, waiting his answer. She heard him say Buffy. The name Buffy meant way too much to her.
Buffy meant heart break and not just for Angel, but for herself also. Fred had a girlish crush on Angel, the first she had in more than five years and he blew her off because he was so in love with this girl. Then when he got back from his meeting with the alleged superhero, perfect Buffy, Fred was ready for her move. She wasn't sure she had even had the guts to put her plan into motion until he told her about the sacrifice he had made for Buffy when they went to get ice cream that night. Buffy, his love.
He gave up his life for this bitch, that stabbed him in the back one to many times. He was alive, and he gave it all up for a girl that told him at her next meeting with the souled Vampire that she was in love. In love with someone that was not him. She threw it in his face and made him wallow in it. She was the one that pushed him to the brink and made him such easy pray for Darla to get into his pants.
Then that blonde bitch had his kid, Conner. "Conner," Fred mumbled under her breath as her hand went to her boyfriends shoulder. "Gunn, honey. Hang up," she breathed into his ear as she tried to force his hand down with hers to the phones cradle.
"Fred, It's Buffy, his love. I think it might matter." He said, bringing the phone back up to his ear. She had fury in her eyes as she screamed at him to hang up the phone.
"Hang up the damn phone!" she screamed, so out of a character for the petite brown Texan. He looked at her with questions, with the look of a two year old being yelled at for spilling his orange juice on the white sofa and not noticing he had done so.
"What's with ya' Freddie?" he inquired, draping his arm around her shoulders as he halted talking to Buffy. Fred paused again. Why did she hate this woman so much? It was as simple as hearing what she had from Cordy and Angel and Wesley. Angel gave up his life for her, over and over again. Wesley was thrown out of the Council cause of her, and had many feelings of inadequacy because of who? Her. Ohh and Cordelia, she was what made Fred's plan hold together so well.
You say a few kind words to her, talk about how her and Angel are made for each other a little excessively and you have her believing it. She was so coy so believing they all were, they never knew that taco eating meek little shy Fred had it in her. Had all the right stuff to just make Angel and Cordy fall in love because she willed it. In the back of her mind Fred knew that she was doing this for herself by playing Barbie dolls with these people's lives, but she also thought she was helping. She was giving Cordelia a love interest, making Angel happy, and getting the bitch out of his life. Or so she thought. Now she knew it was wrong. Something happened to her boss and Cordelia and she didn't want anyone to get hurt. She wanted them to be happy and she thought, she thought wrong. Fred looked up at her boyfriend and knew that she wanted this for Angel and for Cordy, but with people they really loved. And If Buffy Anne Summers was that, she wanted it. Everything would be right. Wiggling out of his arm length she grabbed the phone from him in mid sentence. "Sorry Hun, I need to talk."
~*~*~*~*~
Buffy was talking to the black guy that knew not one thing but his name. He didn't know anything about what happened to Angel. He knew that he went to profess his love to Cordelia and... TO CORDELIA? What on earth happened to Angel? Every once in a while a female voice would flitter threw to the phone line yelling something at the man. The man named Gunn, so wither it was Cordy, who was gone. Or it was Fred ... who Angel didn't say much about her other than she had a crush on him and he almost banged her while he was possessed. Buffy heard the female voice once more but this time it was talking to her.
"Hello, Buffy?" It asked so quietly, so unassured of its self.
"Ah, Yeah Buffy the Vampire layer ... slayer here." Buffy was so embarrassed that she had actually said that aloud. She was thinking it since she started to fuck Spike but never dared to say it aloud, for fear it would be true.
"I'm so sorry," the woman on the other line broke down and cried out. "It's all my fault I told Angel he was in love with Cordelia, I told Angel it would be best if he didn't tell you about his son. I swear, I didn't mean to hurt him, I just hated you so much. You had his Love, and even though I knew I could never have it, I thought it was allright to make him fall for Cordy. I hated you so much because he gave up his life for you ... all for you. I didn't think anyone was to be that much in love, until I was and I am and I'm so sorry."
Buffy processed what was just told to her. "Oh-kkkkkaaayyy. One question, actually two."
"Anything, Anything at all."
"Okay. First, How did he ever give up his life for me? I mean, yeah he gave up life in Sunnydale but not life all together. And then I ask... Who the hell do you think you are to mess with people lives because you weren't in love?"
"I'm so sorry, I didn't know. You don't know... I can't explain all I know is Angel is alive, you two ... do, well that. And something with ice cream."
"What are you, a succubus? How the hell did you get in my dream?" Buffy yelled as she entered Los Angeles. City of an Angel. Her Angel.
"It wasn't a dream, ask him. I mean-" she broke down crying. "If you can find him, ask him."
"I will, I will," Buffy said hanging up on the crying and moaning woman as she pulled into the parking lot of the hospital.
~*~*~*~*~
Buffy rushed out of the car she had been driving. She ran across the parking lot, until she looked down at what she was *still* wearing, her icky uniform from work. She ran back to the car, as if she had never left in the first place. What was she going to do? She could go in naked ... but that might not make the right impression on either of her exes.
With that thought, came a flood of others. Both of the men at one point she had claimed to love were in there together. Were they ripping each others heads off yet?
Buffy began to jump around the car to see if she could find a T-shirt or something that would make her look less ... well, Burger King-ly looking. A shirt with orange pants would still look bad but it had to better then this. She looked furiously around the back of the car, trying to find something. She ran back to the front of the car and looked to the right of the steering wheel. There was an overnight bag of Dawn's.
Buffy quickly leapt to the other side of the car, grasping the bag and going through it in one quick motion. She poured out the materials in the bag to see if there was anything she could use. There Dawn had a tooth brush, a comb and a purple shirt, with the words 'Punk princess' inscribed in silver studs. Buffy looked at the shirt three times, over and over, and she came to the conclusion she was better with the Mc D's set up.
Buffy grabbed the comb in frustration and threw it over her shoulder, in the process hitting her self and hurting her chin and also messing up her hair.
"I hate my life!" she screamed at the top of her lungs. Her vocal cords hurt as she lapsed backward in the seat looking for the brush once again. She couldn't find it. She mumbled profanities under her breath as she searched for the comb.
This wasn't her day by any means.
She felt something hard as she searched under the back seats, pulled it out, and lifted it up to her face. It wasn't the comb. She stared at a light pink dress, with frills and darker pink specks. It was Dawn's home coming dress. Dawn hadn't wore it since last October, and what was it doing under the back seat of a car?
It didn't matter right now, all she wanted to do was to put it on and walk into that hospital, help Angel out for a second then kick him in the groin. Why on earth wouldn't he tell her he had a son, and then above that say he loved Cordelia? Yeah sure, that Fred person but still.
Buffy threw on the pink slip dress that came down to her knees, it was bigger in the bust than most of her own things, but it wasn't hers it was Dawn's. It other wise fit like a dream, clinging to her like Faith to any man that she was near. Buffy laughed at the image as she did a walk/run to the hospital doors.
There were army guards on each side of either door she could walk into, she finally got to the protected office in which he was in, as she was interrupted by a cheerful voice.
"Hey Buffy!"
Buffy turned around knowing it wasn't Angel or Riley, but Mrs. Riley Finn. "Hey Sam," She replied in an equally cheerful voice, secretly mocking the woman. It wasn't that Buffy hated her, just wasn't her best friend. She never would be, no way no how.
"What are you doing here? Did your date turn out to be a vampire?" she asked with a slight humor in her voice. She knew about Buffy and Spike, she also knew about Buffy and Angel. The thing is she also knew why Buffy was here.
Buffy picked up the tinge of humor in the other woman's voice, she ignored it. No point in blood shed, all she wanted to do was to see Angel. "No. No Vampire date, just here for an old...I'm sure you know."
"Yeah, she does." Riley said wrapping his arms around the darker featured woman's waist before advancing towards Buffy. It was like he had to use Sam as a shield or he would jump all over Buffy. He looked at her that dress and all he wanted to do was just that, jump.
"Hey, Can I ..." she pointed to the door and gestured to opening it.
"Go ahead, he is strapped down until he is ready to be taken out of here. If he wants, he is ready... He isn't really in the nicest of moods, but as I remember him, he never was," Pushing open the door after pressing a code into a small pushible box lock.
"Great, will you be coming with me, oh Mr. Manly protector?" she coined walking in front of him.
"I can..." he replied not taking the hint or mouth full of sarcasm leaking from her lips.
"Ha, No," she quickly replied shutting the door behind herself in a hurry, not leaving time for a reply.
~*~*~*~
"What's her deal?" Sam asked after Buffy shut her husband out of the room in one quick sweep of her back hand. She should have just slapped him and got it over with.
"She never was...She is different around him. She acts different. With me, one moment she was there and then...not. She L....lo...loves him." He managed to squeeze out of his gritted teeth mouth.
~*~*~*~*~
Buffy looked down at her Angel as she swayed back and forth on her feet. He was sleeping, so soundly that she couldn't think of waking him. On the other hand all she wanted to do was to get out of there and find out what is what.
"Angel?" She asked nudging him softly. He didn't move or make a sound in return. "Angel...Angel" she said nudging him softly until it turned to she was almost shaking him. Angel still didn't move.
Buffy bent down and kissed him softly on the lips waiting for a response. She didn't know why kissed him but she just wanted him out of there, and... It worked in the fairy tales. Why not real life? If Buffy's life was real, she still hadn't figure that out. Either way it should work.
That it did, she put her face down to his a rested a small gentle kiss down to his light pink, pale lips. As she did he rapped his hand around her head and brought her down to him to deepen the kiss to something more. They broke apart suddenly after the need for air came up as an issue, both lapsing from the kiss. His eye wandering down her body as her eyes did the same and then both set of eyes shoot to the door.
~*~*~*~*~
Sam looked down at her own feet as she moved back and forth from foot to foot, over and over again. It wasn't right for them to be in love, but as long as she didn't have to watch them fall in and out of it, or have Riley talk about, she couldn't care less. "It is okay." Giving him a kiss on the cheek she walked to the door and went inside.
"So..." she smiled out to the two of them. " Are you two ready to go...Maybe?" Sam's eyes baliged as she walked in on them kissing, she turned around several times. wanting to look but not wanting to do so. She finally turned towards the two and looked at them both. "What are you doing? and Is he breathing?" she barked at the couple.
"What are you yelling for?" Buffy barked back at her. "Besides, you can't yell at the man for breathing!"
"He is not a man by any means" The other women stated as an observation.
"So..." Buffy asked clearly not getting it. As she fiddled with her hands, lacing the figures together and turning it inside out and then back to normal.
Sam bolted over to the other side of the room, where she grabbed Angel's arm pulling it out of it's restrains.
"What the..." He asked breathily. He Just couldn't seem to catch his breath, it wasn't Like anything He had felt before.
"What are you doing?!" Buffy shirked at Sam. "Don't touch him!" Buffy grabbed his hand from the women who let it fall as she fell over.
Buffy eyes almost fell out of her sockets. She was In total shock, she was feeling heart beats." Angel..." she cried out in surprise.
He couldn't talk he felt so ill and vile. He wanted to fall over and die. His arms hurt, his limbs hurt, everything hurt. absolutely everything hurt on or in his body. His breath increased so irregularly.
"Angel you're...alive" Buffy sobbed out as she fell to the ground crying.
~*~*~*~*~
"What the hell is going on in there?" ask one of the men posted out side of the door. He looked in and shouted this at Riley who in turn rushed into find his wife and Buffy on the floor.
Sam was passed out and Buffy was curled in the fetal position crying her eyes out as small river was produced under her.
"What the hell did you do?" Riley said hitting Angel square in the jaw.
"That hurt..." Angel sighed out still not having his breath." That hurt!" he said as a realization. The whole time he fought Riley two years past it hadn't hurt him as much as that one punch he just received hurt him.
Riley was on the floor trying to get his wife to wake up and asking Buffy what was wrong. "Buffy ... what is wrong?" he kept asking over and over.
Buffy didn't answer, although she did stand up and moved closer to Angel. Before anyone knew anything, she was on his lips.
Riley screamed, "What the hell is going on?"
Buffy pulled away from Angel, and quickly maneuvered to remove the restraints from him. "He's human!" exclaimed Buffy, in an astonishment.
Sam woke up but couldn't speak all she could do is point and murmer small words of nothing.
~*~*~*~*~*~ A few hours later Buffy and Angel had left after explaining what they could, and just exclaiming what they couldn't. Which was most of the whole explanation. She bide Riley and Sam another good-bye as she and Angel walked out of the beach side hospital.
They began to walk the length of the beach as they talked about what had happen to them in the resent past. The Laughed about their so called love interest and the indiscretions that came along with it.
The sun had descend as they were in the mist of watching the soft pinks and light purples mixed together. Blending together in the a way that Buffy had never saw before, it had never looked so good, not until she was with Angel in her dreams.
"I dreamt this." Buffy muttered softly.
"A dream is a wish that your heart wants to come true." Angel kissed her softly as they watched the sun go down. He wrapped his arms around her waist and saw the sun go down in a beautiful mist he hadn't seen in two hundred and forty some years.
"I love you," she whispered into his ear. Kissing him softly as it drawn out into a long passionate kiss that made their bellies lurch forward and backward.
"Forever, my love. That's that whole point ... right?" With a sly smile he pointed this out for her to see.
"Damn straight!" she exclaimed sweeping him into a kiss, as she tied her arms around his neck and thought of the future all in their path.
'It all started with a kiss,
seemingly ended without a good bye,
He came back to her with a kiss,
And good-byes are No more an Issue,
Only goodnights.'
~*~*~*~*~
"That was a good thing you did , 'Delia," came an Irish voice.
"Yeah, well, I know true love" she sighed kissing his brow. "Those two are a force of nature, made in heaven to go through hell," she coined kissing him once more.
"Made in heaven to go through hell, good country song lyrics, huh."
"Wouldn't you rather some cutsy boy band sung it?" she asked with a giggle.
He looked into her brown eyes, and yawned. " Yeah, N'suck or Back seat girls ... that's a dram come true."
She giggled again. " A little Irish man with a sensee of humor. Well, huh, that's new."
"Now 'Delia it's bed time, if we go now we can.... If you want." He stated with a mischievous smile lingering on his face.
"Damn straight" she exclaimed into his mouth as he carried her to the bed room.
