Recollections

A subtle glance was all it took
The brush of hair, a hesitant look
A smile that shone from heaven's gate
And I was in that other state

When first we met, I have to say
It went not well, on ground I lay
And as she stared upon this wretch
She reached inside, my heart she fetch'd

And later on, allies we became
Enjoying sport in the greatest game
The bond it grew, and from inside
Such feelings felt, so long denied

And in good time, the force it bloomed
For this young warrior my heart entombed
For centuries I had not cared
Life or love had ne'er been spared

But torrents washed and cleansed of me
At last blessed in my infinity
But I was not to know my fate
Or perils which would be too great

For when the test had to be met
And the future, in time set
She answered the fates and did what she
Knew must be done, even to me
You cannot know the pain that surged
When all that grew at once was purged
But with the passing of more time
I realise now there was no crime

So if I ever leave this place
And gaze once more upon her face
Forgiveness will be all that's left
All other things are now bereft
