So here it is...
Angel pulled up to the front of Paradise Apartments to see a man holding his daughter around the stomach by one arm while his other hand held a gun. He jumped out of the car followed by Doyle and Cordelia, ran and kicked the guy in the gut causing him to drop the gun and Logan. Angel quickly caught Logan before she reached the ground and handed her over to Doyle. "GO NOW!" he shouted then ran to look for Buffy. He turned down an alley and spotted her being pulled roughly off the ground. Her face looked pale under the dim streetlight and he could smell her blood
"All I wanted was for you to let me see my baby girl." Angel heard Riley growl. "But, No, you had to take her away from me. Hide her from her father. What kind of mother are you?"
"You're....not...her father" Buffy choked out.
"Then who is?" Riley shouted "Are you a whore? Do you not know who the father is?"
"I do know!" Buffy cried tears streaming down her face and mingling with the blood from a gash on her cheek.
"Then who is it?" Riley yelled.
"It's me." Angel said stepping up to Riley.
Riley dropped Buffy, who landed hard against the cement, and backed away.
"You hurt my girl." Angel said grabbing Riley by the throat and shoving up against the side of a building. "And you tried to take my daughter." And with that Angel slammed Riley's head against the brick and watched him slump to the ground unconscious. Then he knelt next to Buffy and gently lifted her off the ground. He carried her to the front of the building and waited for the ambulance.
"Angel," she whispered hoarsely, "where's Logan? You have to find Logan. Where's my baby at?"
"Shhhh" Angel soothed. "Cordelia has her. She's fine." Angel could hear the sirens. "Just close your eyes." He whispered then kissed her gently on the forehead.
Two LAPD cars and an ambulance pulled up to the Paradise Apartments. Kate stepped out of one and a man stepped out of the other car. "What happened?" Kate asked walking towards Angel.
"She was attacked. There's one guy in the alley over there and another right over there. If you want to know anything else I'm going to be at the hospital with her." Angel said walking over to the ambulance with Buffy in his arms. He stepped in and placed her on the stretcher. Then waited for the ambulance to drive away.
*******
Kate spotted Angel pacing the waiting room at the hospital. She quickly walked over to him. "There was no guy in the alley." she said looking at him.
Angel turned. "What do you mean? He was there."
"Well did you know his name and was there a reason she was attacked?" Kate asked.
"His name is Riley Finn and this is the second time he's gone after her." Angel replied. "He's not really after her. He's after her daughter."
"Where's the daughter now? And how old is she? Is this Riley guy the father?"
"She's with Cordelia and Doyle at my place, she's two years old and no Riley is not the father."
"We're gonna have to call social services. Find this girl a home until her mother is out of the hospital unless you know anyplace you could take her. Family maybe?"
"I'm gonna keep her at my place until Buffy gets out."
"You can't do that Angel." Kate protested.
"She's my daughter Kate. She's staying with me."
Kate's mouth opened as if she was going to say something then she closed it again. "Oh" she finally said after awhile. "So you know the girl that was attacked?"
"She's my girl...ex-girlfriend." he quickly corrected himself.
"Well....I'm going to go....start looking for this Riley Finn guy."
"Good!" Angel said, "He couldn't have gotten far."

"Are you Angel?" a nurse asked coming into the waiting room. It had been an hour since Kate left and Angel was still waiting to hear from a doctor about Buffy's condition.
"Yes, I am." he said quickly. "How is she?"
"A few minor injuries," The nurse replied, "but we can't release her until tomorrow. She's asking for you now."
Angel followed the nurse through several hallways before she finally stopped and pointed to a room. "She's in that one right there." Then she left.
Angel stood against the door frame watching Buffy for several minutes.
"Why are you just standing there?" Buffy asked turning to look at him.
Startled Angel walked over to her. "I thought you were sleeping," Angel said pulling a chair up and sitting beside the bed. "How are you?"
"A little sore but I'll live." she admitted.
Angel let his eyes sweep over her. He took in the sight of her bruised arms and the scratches on her face. "God," he whispered. "I look at you and I think, how could anyone hurt you like this? How could anyone stand to cause a face like yours pain?"
"There's just not enough men like you in this world." Buffy smiled shyly.
Angel chuckled then turned serious again. "I hate seeing you in pain. It kills me to see you hurting." He said caressing her cheek, "and when I look at you right now I want to take all that pain away and keep it for myself just so you can be happy. So you won't hurt anymore."
"That's really sweet, Angel," Buffy whispered, "but my pain is what makes me strong. Both physically and emotionally. If I never had any pain I would be weak. I wouldn't be who I am today. I would still be that shallow, self-centered brat that I was when I was called."
"You mean you'd be like Cordelia?" Angel asked smiling.
"Angel!" Buffy exclaimed astonished but smiling herself.
"I'm joking. Cordelia has changed a lot since she has come here to LA."
"Speaking of Cordelia," Buffy said before yawning, "have you even called her to tell her where you are?"
"No I haven't. I guess I should do that, huh?" Angel said pulling a cell phone out of his back pocket. He dialed the number to the office and waited.
"Angel?" Cordelia asked when she picked up the phone.
"Yeah Cordelia, it's me" he replied.
"God! Why haven't you called? Did you find Buffy? Is she okay? Where are you?"
"Woah, Cordelia slow down. Yes I found her. Yes she okay save for some cuts and bruises. And we're at the hospital. They're going to release her tomorrow."
"Ask her how Logan is." Buffy mouthed to Angel.
"Buffy wants to know how Logan is." he said picking Buffy's hand up off the mattress and bringing it to his lips.
"She's sleeping." Cordelia said before peeking her head into Angel's bedroom to check on the girl. "I put her in your bed. Is that okay?"
"Yeah. Just keep an eye on her."
"I know. So you're gonna be back tonight right? I don't think Buffy wants the father of her child to be a crispy critter in the morning."
"Oh I don't think she'd want that either. I'll be there in awhile. Bye Cordelia"
"How is she?" Buffy asked.
"Logan?" Buffy nodded. "She's sleeping. And that's what I want you to do. You need to rest or they'll make you stay another day. Now close your eyes."
Buffy did as Angel said then began to shift her position. Suddenly she cried out in pain as her shoulder brushed against the bed railing. Angel gently pulled the short sleeve of the hospital gown up to reveal Buffy's shoulder. A large bruise covered nearly a quarter of her upper arm. She winced as Angel lightly ran his finger over it. "Please," she cried. "Please don't. It hurts."
"Okay okay. Shhh I won't touch it I promise." He took his hand away and pulled the sleeve back down over her shoulder. "Just go to sleep now." He wiped the tears running down her cheeks off with his thumb then kissed her forehead. When he was sure she was a sleep he quietly exited the hospital room and went to the nurses' station. "I need Buffy Summer's things." He said to the nurse standing behind the counter.
She knelt down for a moment then reappeared with a bin which she set on the counter. Angel picked Buffy's clothes up out of the bin. He could smell the blood on them but chose to ignore it. He then pulled out her keys, rings, necklace and watch and put them in his pocket making sure he didn't drop any of her many rings. Sliding the bin back over to the nurse he turned and walked towards the exit.

"Cordelia?" Angel called softly as he entered his apartment. He smiled when he saw her curled up on the couch asleep then he walked into the kitchen. He pulled Buffy's keys and jewelry out of his pocket and dropped them on the table. He then took her pile of clothes and Set them on top of the washer in his laundry room before entering his bedroom to watch over his daughter. He frowned when he saw Doyle sitting in the only chair in the room and sleeping. He walked over to the bed and looked at his daughter's face.
She looks just like Buffy. Angel thought stroking the toddlers cheek softly. He sat down on the bed and watched her sleep.

Cordelia pulled her car into the parking space right next to Buffy's car in front of Paradise Apartments. She got out and opened the back door before unlocking Buffy's car. After switching Logans carseat into her car and removing the diaper bag and purse from Buffy's she headed up to the apartment carrying the leather duffel bag Angel had given her to pack some of Buffy and Logan's clothes in. She entered the apartment and headed for what she guessed was the bedroom. After packing several outfits for both Buffy and Logan and grabbing a pack of diapers out of the bedroom she returned to the living room. She noticed a small wicker basket of toys in the corner and decided to grab it along with a few Blues Clues and Barney tapes. With her arms loaded Cordelia locked the apartment and made her way to her car.

Cordelia entered the office huffing and puffing. Doyle quickly ran over to help her out. They carried the belongings downstairs and set them on the sofa. Cordelia laughed when Logan ran out of the bedroom wearing one of Angel's t-shirts.
"Come here ya little monkey." Cordy said catching the toddler as she ran by. "I brought you some clothes and I think you need a bath dirty girl." She carried Logan into the bathroom and began running warm water in the tub.
"I'm going upstairs," Angel hollered from the living room.
"Alright," Cordelia yelled back as she pulled the T-shirt over Logan's head and pulled the diaper off. She sat the little girl in the now half full tub.
Logan giggled and smacked her hands against the water. "Wet! Wet!" She laughed splashing Cordelia. "Tordy get wet!"
"Yeah wet." Cordelia drawled as she grabbed a bar of soap and began washing the toddler.
******
"I hungry." Logan complained as she walked with Cordelia up the stairs to the office. She was now bathed and her wet blonde hair was pulled up in pigtails. She wore a pink outfit with little flowers embroidered on the tanktop and carried her basket of toys in her hand.
"We'll eat in a little bit." Cordelia replied.
"No!" Logan shouted. "I eat wunch now!"
"Angel!" Cordy exclaimed coming into the office. "Your daughter is definitely not a morning person."
"What are you talking about? She was being good when she got up."
"Oh Puh-Leas! She splashed me in the tub, she fought me over what outfit she was going to wear! Then she insisted that we take her toys with us upstairs, and now she's telling me to feed her lunch."
"So feed her lunch. It's not that difficult." he said. "Here, I'll even give you money to go out to lunch." He pulled out twenty dollars.
Cordelia grabbed the money out of his hand and picked Logan up. "Okay Logan where are we going for lunch ya little monkey?"
"Icekeem! Icekeem!" Logan said clapping her hands together.
Cordelia groaned. "You can't have ice-cream for lunch Logan. We'll have it after lunch."
"Icekeem!" She yelled angrily. "I want Icekeem!"
Angel laughed then stood up and walked over to them. He took Logan out of her arms. "Logan, you can't have ice-cream for lunch." He told her.
Logan's lower lip quivered and she gave Angel her puppy dog face. Angel groaned. "Just get her some ice-cream." he said handing her back over to Cordelia.
"Yay!" Logan squealed. "Icekeem! Icekeem!"

Buffy lay in the hospital bed. The sun was just setting over the horizon and she was waiting for Angel. Suddenly a hand came down against her throat and pinned her to the mattress. She gasped and choked trying to pull the hand away.
"Where is she?" Riley hissed. "Who has my daughter?"
Buffy's hand fumbled with the buttons on the rail of the bed before finally hitting one. A red light flashed on and off in the hallway and a nurse came running.
"Get away." The nurse tried pulling Riley away. It was useless. Buffy's eyes bulged as she tried gasping for air. "Security! I need security in here!" The nurse yelled. Out of nowhere somebody came and threw Riley against the wall.
"Call the police. Get him out of here." Angel said pulling Buffy into his arms. Security came and dragged Riley out of the room.
Buffy gasped for air as she clutched the back of Angel's shirt.
"Shhh, It's okay now." Angel soothed rubbing Buffy's back. "They're going to lock him up now. He won't come after you anymore." Buffy was now sobbing. "Please...Calm down Buffy. It's okay." he whispered.
She buried her face in his shoulder. "Please Angel," she mumbled into his shirt.. "Please don't let him come near me. Promise me that he'll leave me alone. Promise me that he won't take my little girl away."
"I promise." Angel whispered into her hair. "I promise with all my heart that he won't touch you or Logan ever again. And I'll make sure of that."
Buffy relaxed in his arms as he trailed kisses down the side of her face. "I think maybe I should go change into my street clothes." she whispered and pulled out of his arms.
"Yeah."
******
Buffy came out of the bathroom dressed in a pair of old jeans and a T-shirt.
"Put this on." Angel said handing Buffy one of his sweaters. "It's a little chilly out."
She threw it on and pulled her hair out of the back. "Come here," he pulled a hairbrush out of the duffel bag he brought and pulled her into his lap. He gently began brushing the tangles out of her hair. "Better?" He asked when he finished. She nodded and leaned back against him.
"Angel? After you drop me off are you going to bring Logan to me?" She asked.
"I was thinking you and Logan could stay at my place for awhile. Just until you're feeling better then you can go home if you want."
"Oh." she said quietly. "But I'll have to stop by my house to get some more clothes."
"Cordelia already did it for you. And she got some toys for Logan."
"Wow!" Buffy smiled. "Well I'll still have to get her carseat..."
"Already in Cordy's car."
"Don't I get to do anything?" Buffy whined.
"You get to rest until you feel well enough. Cordy even volunteered to take care of Logan for you." Angel grinned knowing all too well that Cordy had said she didn't want to take care of Logan. That Logan was too wild for her liking. "Everythings taken care of Buffy all you have to do is sleep and get well again." He dropped the brush back into the bag and lifted her off his lap. Standing up himself he asked. "So do you have everything? Are you ready to go?"
Buffy nodded and left the hospital room followed by Angel. Angel signed her out and wrapped an arm around her as he lead her out to his car. He sat her in the passenger seat and by the time he got in and started the car she was already sleeping.
******
Angel quietly carried Buffy down into his bedroom and laid her on the bed next to Logan. Lifting Logan off the bed he then carried her through the living room.
"What are you doing?" Cordelia asked from her position on the couch.
"I don't want her to wake Buffy up in the morning so I'm laying her down in the spare room to sleep." he whispered wincing as he the small child stirred in his arms. He quickly carried her into the spare room. Laying her down he pulled the covers up over her and turned the light off. Leaving the door open a crack as he left. "You can go home now Cordelia. I won't need your help again until tomorrow morning."
She nodded making her way to the stairs as he returned to his bedroom. Upon entering he noticed Buffy was now awake. "Do you have any aspirin?" She asked drowsily.
"Yeah I'll go get it." Angel replied leaving the room. He returned a moment later with a glass of water and two aspirin. He noticed that in the short time that he had left Buffy and shed the heavy sweater and replaced the jeans with a pair of boxers with a little cartoon character on them.
Angel laughed as he set the water down and handed her the aspirin. "A little warm in here?" Angel asked smiling. Buffy nodded and dropped the two pills in her mouth followed by a gulp of water. Placing the water back on the night stand she laid back against the pillows.
"Angel?" She whispered after a few minutes. "Will....will you hold me?" She looked into his eyes pleadingly. Without saying a word Angel crawled into bed next to her and wrapped her in his cool embrace.
"Thank-you." She whispered hoarsely before dozing off. Angel watched her sleep peacefully for the rest of the night.
