"Close your eyes."
"Angel? I don't know about that phrase, it conjuresup bad memories for me, and I don't know about you,but if I'm going to go have a surprise I'd really likea much less auspicious phrase to greet me, and yes Ido know what auspicious means, you can't hang out withGiles and Willow as much as I do and not learn a fewthings--"
"Shhh. No more babbling. This is a good surprise. Ipromise." Angel gently blindfolded her, and then tookher hands in his. Before leading her to her surprisein the next room, he paused a moment to place a kisson each and every one of Buffy's fingers just becausethey were hers, and that made them exquisite in hiseyes.
Buffy began to seriously relax, "Ooohh, keep doingthat, and I won't even remember that there's asurprise waiting for me." she announced quiteseriously, but couldn't manage to keep herself-satisfied grin from her face. "I love you, didyou know that?"
"I don't know. I think you might have to tell meagain." Angel smoothed a wisp of hair out of her face, despite the fact that, blindfolded, it didn't reallybother her at all.
"Hmm, I love you. A LOT. Because you're my Angel." Buffy's smirk was becoming a soft and mushy simper, instead. "And you're really pretty. And very tall. And you know things. Because you're smart. Andyou're strong. And you're sweet. And you brood. Andyou're mouth does that cute thing when you-"
"I knew taking you to Starbucks might not have beenthe best idea. You did warn me you get babbley."
"Yep!" Buffy announced airily. "That I do. I livewith Willow. Willow is the Queen of Babble. I am nowthe, well, I'd like to say Princess but that seems alittle presumptuous, don't you think?"
Angel grinned at his animated fiance. "No. You canbe the princess of whatever you like. You are alreadythe Queen of my heart, and the Empress of my soul."
"Hmm, I think if this slaying gig doesn't work out forus, we could become gainfully employed by Hallmark, what do you think?"
"I think you might be right."
"So.surprise? Do I ever get to know what it is? Ordo we stand here and compete in the Who's sappiercontest?" Angel laughed, and drew her into his arms.
"Well.the contest has merits, ruler of my undyingdevotion." And with that, he kissed her, and Buffyquite easily lost track of her thoughts. Eventually, she had to pull away to breathe, and she regained hermemories of their earlier conversation.
"Ruler of my undying devotion?" she questioned.
"Do you have a problem with that, sovereign of mypassion?"
"You're very creative. I think you win that category, hands down." Angel gave her a wicked chuckle.
"Really?"
"That's not what I meant," she protested. She paused,"Actually, now that I think about it, that idea hasdefinite merit. I think you should prove it." Shenodded decisively. "Yes, most definitely."
He laughed again, and gave her a very brief kiss. "Later, I promise. First, your surprise." Andwithout further delay, he led her into the next room, positioned her exactly so, and then removed herblindfold.
Buffy gasped. Every INCH of the room was decoratedwith lights, tinsel, confetti, and an enormous bannerwhich declared "Happy Un-Birthday Buffy!!" Somehow, the decorations, while lavish, also managed to remainjust this side of tasteful.
"Angel," Buffy said seriously, "have I told you howperfect and wonderful and special you are lately?"
"Yes. I love you, Buffy. And I know that yourbirthday isn't the most pleasant of times for you, andI wanted to do something special for you, since you'vebeen so stressed with school and slaying lately, andWillow suggested cake, and I just built from there." As Angel ended his uncommonly long babblefest, hegestured at the monstrous confection sitting on thecounter. Buffy hadn't the faintest idea how she'dmissed it in her first sweeping glance of the room. The thing looked like it had at least five layers, andmassive amounts of huge pink frosting roses drowningout the 'Happy Unbirthday Buffy' someone had writtenon it. Buffy could only laugh. Everything wasabsolutely perfect. HE was perfect.
"I love you. There's no doubt about it. You'reperfect. Compliments, kisses, and buttercream, allwithin minutes of each other! There's just no toppingthat!" Buffy proclaimed.
Angel grinned at her, his chocolate eyes dancing. "And I haven't even gotten to the presents yet."
Buffy squealed, "PRESENTS??" She quickly jumped himand made short work of covering his flawless featuresin kisses. Angel happily reciprocated the favor.
After Buffy had cheerfully decimated the wrappingpaper, admired all her new gifts, from her newcrossbow, to the new Harry Potter book, to that lovelynew nightgown, and made a large dent in her unbirthdaycake, she took a long good look at her lover. Hiseyes met hers with that disarming blend of love, devotion and intelligence that only Angel had. Itwas a heady mixture. She cocked her head, "I'll raceyou upstairs, and then you can fulfill your otherpromise!" Before he even had a chance to react, shewas gone. He didn't take much time in catching upwith her.
Once they were together again, Buffy stared straightinto Angel's eyes. "Wanna know a secret?"
Angel chuckled at her impish grin, delighting in thefeel of her hands as they removed his shirt. "Sure."
"I love you."
He returned her love struck gaze adoringly, "I loveyou too."
See? When I say pure 100% fluff, that's EXACTLY whatI mean. It's a mushy girly emotional heaven. Heehee. It's also the first of the sort I've written, soplease tell me what you think. :-)
