AUTHOR'S NOTE: I *had* to write this fic after hearing the song in the car
on the way to my grandmother's tonight. *Yes*, I know I write alot of fic at
her house. Don't ask me why.
NOTE 2: No, my writer's block isn't gone. In fact, I think it's worsening.
That I'm writing at all is a miracle. And this is a bad fic anyways.
NOTE 3: I've taken alot of liberties with this fic. Doyle isn't dead and
Buffy never dated Fish Boy. I think that's it. Not so many liberties after
all.4/14/00
"Cordelia!" Angel jerked his arm free and rubbed his wrist. "Please let go of me. I promise I'm not going to go anywhere."
She thought about it and then gripped him again, tighter this time. "No. It's my birthday - my twenty-first birthday - and you're coming, like it or not."
He snorted but let her drag him inside the club. D'Oblique was overly crowded with acting 'friends' of Cordelia's from LA, bitchy 'friends' from Sunnydale and a few members of the Scooby Gang, friends Doyle called "Kindred Spirits".
Angel looked around the club for her, but stopped when Cordelia yanked on his arm. "Hel-lo! I was talking to you."
"Sorry."
"Sit here," she pointed to the bar where Doyle was. "I'll come back for you when I need you."
Angel shrugged and sat, making small talk with his demon friend for awhile as Cordy whisked through the crowd, smiling at this person and hugging that person, showing off her beautiful new haircut and red highlights.
"Spike!" she did the European kiss thing with him. "Can you do me a *huge* favor?"
He took a drink of his beer. "No."
"Please? The DJ I hired was great but one of Doyle's friends ate him," she made a face. "So can you take over for him? Please?"
"The Slayer here?" he asked.
"In the corner."
Spike looked over and saw Buffy sitting with Willow, Tara, Anya, Xander, Oz and Devon. "And Faith?" he took another drink.
"She's on her way. There were some hungry friends of yours and Angel's outside that she had to take care of."
"I'll tell ya what," he took another drink. "You find me a Slayer to shag and I'll do your music."
Cordelia scurried off albeit carefully in stilettos to find Faith. She returned with her not five minutes later and smiled, pleased.
"Here. Shag. But play the music first. I don't need to see you two doing it at my party, I can watch it on the Internet anytime I want."
"You want me to do him now?" Faith asked.
"You do him all the time." Cordy shrugged. "I need my music."
"I'll do it," Faith volunteered.
"You?" Cordy looked scared.
"Yeah. Why not?"
"It's just....you can't play everything by Bif Naked, okay?"
"Agreed. But watch out 'cause I'll be doing some special requests and dedications."
"Whatever." Cordy started to mingle, waiting for music to fill the room. A few minutes passed and then Bohemian Rhapsody blasted at them for Tara. Wild Thing was played for Oz, That Thing You DO! for Devon, Do Me, Baby for Spike and Digital Getdown was dedicated to Faith's "Cyber sweetie."
Buffy was bored stiff throughout all this. She stood up, smoothed her skirt and grabbed her purse. "I'm gonna go," she shouted over the music.
"Buffy," Willow admonished.
"I'm tired," she shrugged.
"Not so fast, B." Faith said over the PA. "I've got one more request to send out. This song's for you and the bloody poof." she smirked and Buffy held her breath.
Oh baby, baby\\
"Oh, God," Buffy moaned.
Across the room, Angel was saying the same thing.
"Go find her," Doyle pushed him off the barstool.
Oh baby, baby\\
"Come on," Xander and Anya pushed Buffy towards Angel. "Dance with him," Xander told her.
The reluctant couple met up and avoided each other's eyes. "Hi," she said shyly.
"Hi." he tried to smile. "How are you?"
"Tired."
"I think we're supposed to dance."
She looked at him. "You want to?"
"Do you want to?" he countered.
"Sure," she tried to smile. "Why not?"
He grabbed her and started dancing in time with the music. She followed him and tried not to sing along with the infectious song Faith was blasting.
Oh baby baby
How was I supposed to know
That something wasn't right here?
Oh baby baby
I shouldn't have let you go
But now you're right beside me
Show me
How you want it to be
Tell me baby
Cause I need to know now
Oh because
My loneliness is killing me
I must admit
I still believe
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Gimme a sign
Hit me baby one more time
Oh baby baby
The reason I breathe is you
Boy you've got me blinded
Oh baby baby
There's nothing that I wouldn't do
It's not the way I planned it
Show me
How you want it to be
Tell me baby
Cause I need to know now
Oh because
My loneliness
Is killing me
I must admit
I still believe
When I'm not with you
I lose my mind
Gimme a sign
Hit me baby one more time
Oh baby baby
How was I supposed to know
Oh pretty baby
I shouldn't have let you go
I must confess
That my loneliness
Is killing me now
Don't you know I still believe
That you will be here
And give me a sign
Hit me baby one more time\\
By the the time the song ended, Buffy and Angel were making out in the center of the nightclub's dance floor. Willow and Oz were hugging in one corner, Tara and Devon slow-dancing in another. Xander and Anya were bickering, Cordelia and Doyle were drinking and up in the DJ booth, Spike and Faith were shagging happily.
