"Um," Angel lightly pulled away from Buffy and she glared at him. "I should...."

"No, you shouldn't." Buffy said. "You said it's only for one night, so I'm taking my night and I'm going to enjoy every last minute of it."

"Buffy." his eyes were begging with her, and that annoyed her.

"Angel." she countered. "Ever since I met you, you've controlled everything that's happened between us. It's my turn to run the show now."

"But--"

"No buts. There's one song left and then we're going to the Bronze with the gang. We're gonna dance and sing--"

"SING?" Angel interrupted.

"And dance and talk and drink and live it up like it's the last night of the world." she smiled. "I promise to have you home by sunrise."

He shook his head. "You're too much."

"I try."

Buffy laid her head back on Angel's chest and closed her eyes. The lyrics wouldn't stop circling in her mind, and she couldn't help but think how fitting they were since that was about to be the story of her life.

Does she really think that's it? Angel wondered. Does she think I'm over her? That I've stopped loving her? 'Cause nothing could be further from the truth.

He let his eyelids fall closed, shutting out everything in the room but their two bodies moving as one.

Please, he prayed, let her know that I'm doing this for *her*. Please let her know that.

The song ended and everyone clapped. The mob of dancing kids began to disperse and Buffy finally pulled away from Angel, trying to hide the fact that she was wiping tears away. He failed at doing the same.

"We've got a low-scale limo for Bronze transportation." Oz offered. "You guys game?"

"Definitely." Buffy said. Going out with her friends as a group was perfect for prommy fun, and hopefully it would get her mind of Angel leaving.

The Bronze was hopping and Buffy had put her name in for Kareoke early on. Now, two hours later, it was her turn. She took a deep breath and met Angel's eyes.

"This is for my Angel," she said softly.

The lights dimmed and all eyes were on her. The nerves turned into adrenalin and she felt pumped.

If this world is wearing thin

Buffy wiped her tears and wound up sinking to her knees for the last chorus. Angel was crying as well.

She carefully got off the stage and looked him in the eye.

"Well?" she asked. She waited, but silence was the only answer.
