"I don't like it."
"What's not to like? Hmm?"
"The teeth are crooked."
"But that's the great part."
Angel cocked his eyebrows, "The great part of carving a pumpkin is so the teeth are crooked?"
"Nooo, but just cause you are Mr. Perfectionist doesn't mean your pumpkin's teeth are gonna be perfect. Plus I mean in the past, ohhh 200 years, how many pumpkins have you carved?"
Angel thought about it for a moment, "Not many, but still, I need a better pumpkin."
"Gimme that knife," Buffy told him.
He handed it over and Buffy gripped the knife and started to the mouth. Angel's eyes grew wide.
"Buffy, honey, sweetie, love, what are you going to do?"
The knife entered the mouth and Buffy slowly carved out every single tooth. Angel just sighed.
"Better?"
Angel just laughed, "Much, thank you."
"See, I am a good problem solver."
"Yes you are, now lemme see your pumpkin."
Buffy took hers in her arms and held it protectively to her chest.
"Nu uh."
"Please? I won't do a thing."
"Yes you will."
"Fine. What else do we need to do?" Angel asked.
"Go get candy, and good stuff too."
"Why can't we get the not so good stuff?"
"Because, think about it, the new neighbors give away really cheap music to the kids, the whole neighborhood will think we're cheap."
Angel wrapped his arms around her, "And what's so bad about that?"
"Well, we aren't cheap. We are... expensive?"
"Are we?" he kissed her neck.
"Yeah," she mumbled before kissing him.
The kiss continued for a couple minutes, before it could deepen, though, the telephone rang.
Buffy groaned, "Do we hafta get that?"
She was already walked to the phone to pick it up before Angel ran behind her, hoisted her on his shoulder and carried her to the bedroom, "No, we really don't."
The machine came on after the fourth ring.
"Hi, this is Angel and Buffy, we can't talk to you right now please leave a message, we will try to get back to you A.S.A.P. Thanks, oh and Happy Halloween!"
"Hi Buffy! This is Willow, I was wondering if you could take Grace for a little while, just a couple hours, Oz and I need to go shopping, and we need a sitter, if you could call me within the next hour that would be great! Thanks."
Buffy broke away from Angel, "Should I call her back?"
He sighed, "Yeah, go ahead."
She picked up the phone next to the bed and dialed Willow's number, "Hey will, yeah we can sit for a while, are you gonna drop her off? Okay, then we'll see ya soon. No really he doesn't mind," Buffy glanced back at Angel who was flipping through one of Buffy's magazines, he smiled.
Buffy hung up the phone, "Will and Oz are gonna drop her off in a couple minutes, they just need to go get some candy for their trick- or-treaters and then pick up a costume for Oz."
"Why did they wait for so long? And isn't Willow Jewish?" Angel asked.
"Wait for so long for what?"
"Costume? It's the day before Halloween."
"I don't know, ask them. And yeah, Will is Jewish, but they decided to raise Grace as Christian, so..."
"Oz is Christian?"
"Yeah, devoted Catholic."
"Wow."
"Yeah."
"Buffy what are we gonna do? We still need to get candy."
Buffy shrugged, "Well, we can just ask Oz and Willow to pick some up for us."
"Whatever you want," he kissed her.
"Angel, we can't even get started, when Oz and Willow come I don't think they will appreciate seeing you and me doing... things in front of Gracie."
"Fine," Angel huffed.
"Oh and Angel?"
"Yeah?"
"I don't think Oz would like leaving his little girl with a man wearing so little clothing."
Angel looked down. He wore boxers with ghosts, pumpkins, and bats on them. And only boxers with ghosts, pumpkins, and bats on them. His fine toned body looked great, but he thought that maybe he should change.
"Ditto to you, beloved."
Buffy was wearing her pajamas, exposing almost as much skin as Angel. She blushed.
"Fine, but these clothes are comfy."
"So are these," he argued.
Buffy and Angel changed and cleaned up the house. Or cleaned up as much as they could in seven minutes. The doorbell rang and Buffy opened it to reveal Oz, Willow, and Gracie. Gracie was about 18 months, she was the cutest thing Buffy had seen. Grace had bright red hair and pale skin.
"Hi!" Buffy took her from Oz's arms.
Gracie squirmed in her arms, but eventually settled down.
"Buffy thank you so much for watching her, I love you!"
"And a 'hiya' to you too Will."
"We won't be gone long at all, it's just it would be hard shopping for Oz with her on the loose."
"No problem Willow," Angel told her.
Will gave a quick hug to Angel and Oz shook his hand as a way of hello. Buffy handed Grace over to Angel and he placed her on his hip.
"Hiya sweetie," he told her. "And what are you going to be for Halloween?"
"A little witch," Oz answered, "like her mother with less magic."
"I see," Angel said.
Willow and Oz left a short while later. When Angel placed Gracie on the ground she went directly to a bin under the table. She knew that's where the toys were kept. Angel and Buffy took a seat on the floor, Buffy in Angel's arms when the doorbell rang again.
"I'll get it," Buffy got up. Angel stayed to play with Grace.
Buffy opened the door, a women was standing there with a bowl.
"Hello, I was wondering if I could borrow two eggs?"
"Sure," Buffy said before opening the door a little wider.
It was Rebekka, her neighbor. They had only met once before, and even then only to say their 'hi's' and their names. Rebekka stepped into the house, and Buffy lead her to the kitchen.
"Oh, Angel, this is Rebekka, she lives next door to us, Rebekka, this is my husband, Angel."
"Hello," Angel waved.
Rebekka's attention was brought to Gracie, "Oh, is that your daughter? She is so adorable!"
"No, that's our niece, Gracie. We don't have any kids."
"Oh, well maybe someday," Rebekka said before looking back at Buffy.
"Rebekka just wanted some eggs," Buffy explained to Angel.
Angel nodded his head as a way of understanding.
Buffy gave her neighbor the eggs, and she left.
For the next hour Buffy and Angel spent time with their favorite, and only, niece. They fed the girl and watched a movie with her.
There was a knock on the door and Gracie's ears perked up, she knew that her parents were home. Practically running to the door, she almost beat Angel to the front door. Angel pulled it open, and Grace crawled into Willow's arms.
"Hey you!" she told the girl.
Buffy and Willow talked for a little while, it turns out the only costume the store had for Oz was a joker. Angel chuckled a bit at the image of Oz in a joker costume.
The three left Buffy and Angel's home. The couple had a dessert of ice cream and sprinkles, and then watched some TV. As Buffy was channel surfing Angel turned to her.
"What?" Buffy asked.
"We don't have any candy!"
Buffy's eyes widened.
In less than five seconds Buffy and Angel scrambled into the car to drive to the supermarket. When the reached the candy isle they found that, luckily, the store had restocked the shelves with candy. The clerk had told them that they did that anticipating people to come that night, and then again Halloween day. Though the downfall was that the candy prices raised about two bucks a bag. Buffy was close to beating up a defenseless cardboard Frankenstein, but calmed down in the nick of time.
That night Buffy and Angel feel asleep, tired, but at least they had their candy.
