"Hey there handsome," Buffy said from behind Angel.
She wrapped her arms around his waist, bringing him to her. The soft cotton of his shirt felt so nice against her cheek. He turned to face her, bringing a hand to her face. He caressed her features, lost in her beauty. His lips brushed against hers, giving her a kiss so soft it was as if she were against velvet.
"Hello," he smiled.
Buffy untangled herself from him, and he put an arm around her slender waist. The last clouds of the day danced in a brilliance of colors. Pinks, purples, blues, reds, and oranges painted the sky in a beautiful picture. The moon, barely there at the time, would soon blanket the city with its glow. Buffy yawned against her love, placing her head on his arm. The couple sat on the steps waiting for the first star to come out.
"Make a wish," Angel whispered in her ear.
"I don't need to," she replied.
And for the next half-hour the two people just sat, gazing at the twinkling stars that lit up the sky. It was the perfect night. The evening chill had come in long ago, leaving a perfect temperature for a night like this. Lightening bugs buzzed around the front of the house, while children down the street attempted to catch them in old pickle jars.
Buffy yawned once again, stretching her arms outward. She placed them back in her lap and shivered once. Angel rubbed a hand up and down her arm, creating warmth. He kissed her arm, and then started moving up. He paid particular attention to her neck and behind her ears. She moaned lightly, and made way to his lap. He made it to her mouth, releasing the passion inside him.
Angel stood, carrying Buffy with him, and opened the door. Behind him he heard laughing and turned around, a smile on his face. The children of the neighborhood waved to the couple, amused at their actions. Buffy lifted a hand to wave, while Angel called out his goodnight. Buffy opened the door, allowing Angel to bring her inside. He placed her on her feet, working on the buttons of her blouse.
She broke away from him and headed upstairs. She turned with a finger in front of her, motioning for him to come. He obediently followed, never taking his eyes off her. After a few stairs, Buffy took her shoe off. After a few more, she took another shoe off. At the second to top stair, she removed her shorts. Angel stared at her, always thinking how lucky he was to have her. He began thinking of what was to come, leaving him in a blissful trance. When he came to Buffy was already entering the bedroom, wearing only the barest clothes. Angel finished the trip to the room, and was rewarded.
*~*
The light splashed across the bed. Buffy's eyes snapped open. She groaned and pulled the comforter above her head. She felt Angel fall on the mattress next to her. He crawled under the covers and lay next to her. She turned her head to him, silently begging not to get out of bed yet. He took her in his arms and smoothed her hair away from her face. She smiled up at him, drinking up his angelic features. His eyes smiled filled with only with love, no longer guilt. She traced his jawbone with her pointer finger, feeling his smooth skin under her hand.
"Morning," he greeted.
"Mmmmm," was all Buffy could manage. Full thoughts with sentence structures would come later.
"Has anyone ever told you that you are gorgeous in the morning?" he asked, a light tone apparent in his voice.
She nodded her head.
"Who?" he asked, suspicion masking his face.
"An Angel," she laughed.
Buffy rolled onto her side, snuggling into Angel. She always felt so safe in those arms, never wanting to leave. She closed her eyes, feeling at peace. Angel's movement next to her caused her to open her eyes. He looked back at her, a single glance from his eyes told her it was okay. He came back to her, holding something. His started kissing her collarbone, her chin, her lips, her nose, her eyelids, and her ears.
He stopped after kissing each ear, "Close your eyes," he whispered in his husky voice that caused shivers to run down Buffy's spine.
Buffy did as she was told, wondering where this was leading. She suddenly felt something smooth run across her face, it was so soft, and smelled so sweet. She opened her eyes to see a single red rose being brushed against her bare arm.
"Happy Valentine's Day," he held the rose out.
She took it and gave him a kiss. She observed the flower in her hands. It was blood red, bloomed to perfection, and all the thorns were removed. She smiled at this. Of course it had no thorns; Angel would do anything to insure she wouldn't get hurt, even if it were a thorn prick.
"Thank you, you too," she pushed the covers down to their waists.
Angel climbed out of bed, and came to Buffy's side. He offered his hand, and Buffy took it. She walked to their bathroom door and picked up the robe from the floor. She put it on and joined hands with Angel to walk downstairs. It was a reasonable temperature in the house, not too warn not too cold. The smell of roses and vanilla hit Buffy's nostrils. In the family room there was a vase of roses, each matching the other. Around the flowers were some vanilla candles.
Angel turned back to Buffy, waiting to see if she liked the display. She stood on her tiptoes and kissed him. She wrapped her arms around his neck, bringing her closer to him. He brought her to the couch, laying her down on it. Just as Angel started undoing the tie to the robe the doorbell rang.
"Grrrrr," Buffy looked at the door.
"Ignore it?"
"Well, we could, but who knows who it is?" Buffy wondered aloud.
Angel grumbled a bit as Buffy got up from the couch, "We will finished this later, trust me baby."
Buffy made her way to the door, conscious of Angel right behind her. The bell rang again, and Buffy opened the door. It was a neighborhood child. Angel recognized him as Dylan, their next door neighbor's kid. He was about nine with bright red hair and a ton of freckles across his nose. His friends and he often played baseball in the backyard and the once in a while homeruns landed in Buffy and Angel's yard. Usually the children just got a new ball and began playing again. But this must have been their last ball.
"Hey Mrs. O," the boy said.
"Hey Dylan, what can I do for ya?"
"Our ball went into your backyard again, sorry."
"Don't worry, it's fine. Angel will go get it for ya," Buffy turned to face him, "won't ya?"
"Sure, be right back."
"Do you want to come in while he gets it?" Buffy asked
"Sure," Dylan entered the house.
Buffy took a coat from last night and hung it up in the closet as she talked.
"So how has your mom been?" she asked.
"Good, she and dad are going out tonight for Valentine's Day."
"Oh, well tell them to have a good time for me," Buffy told the boy.
"Sure Mrs. O."
Buffy turned when she heard the back door shutting. Angel appeared in the doorway a couple seconds later. He tossed the ball to the boy; Dylan caught it easily.
"Thanks, Mr. O." the boy thanked Angel before turning to leave.
Angel spoke up, "Hey Dylan?"
"Yeah?" the boy turned around.
"Who hit this one?" he asked.
The boy smiled, "I did."
"Good job."
"Thanks," Dylan said as he left the home.
Buffy shut the door and turned to Angel, "Now where were we?"
"Right *kiss* about *kiss* here," he replied before taking her in his arms.
*~*
"This is so not fair!" Buffy complained as she got dressed. Angel lay across the bed, listening to her. She slipped on a red tank top and a skirt with little hearts on it in celebration of Valentine's Day. She walked over to Angel and fell to the bed.
"I don't think it would be the end of the world if I skipped just *one* class. Do you? I mean I would spend it with you. And you do know all the many possibilities that could come from this arrangement? There are a lot! And you get to spend the whole day here. If you can take days off work, I think I should be able to take a day off school." Buffy said before placing her head on top of Angel's bare chest.
"Buffy, I would love it if you could stay here, but do you remember the agreement we made? If you go to college, you pass. If you don't, you don't pass. And you would have to do it all over again. Do you want to do that?"
Buffy wasn't even listening to her husband; just staring appreciatively at his wonder chest and arms. They way they flexed was amazing, she could watch him for hours. She ran a hand against his warm skin, causing Angel to repeat his question.
"What? Yeah, I mean no. But Angel one class is not gonna make me fail out. Willow will take notes, and I will copy those notes, and everything will be good. Okay?" Buffy gave Angel her best puppy dog eyes.
Angel gave her a you-are-going look, to which she only frowned more. After discovering defeat, she arose from the bed, grabbed her sandals, and started downstairs. Angel groaned and followed her.
When he arrived in the family room Buffy was picking up her purse and books. He really wanted her to stay, but she only had one class today. It wasn't as if she had a full day of classes. He came behind and wrapped his arms around her shoulders.
She looked up and received a kiss to the lips; "You better make this up to me."
Angel could only smile. He released Buffy, and she walked into the kitchen. He bent down to pick up a spiral Buffy had dropped. The sound of cabinets being opened reached his ears. He walked into the kitchen and placed the spiral on the counter. Buffy picked it up and looked it over. She leaned over the counter to give him a thank you kiss.
"Do you need a ride?" Angel asked, before taking a cracker from the box in front of Buffy.
"Sure, but we need to leave in a couple minutes," Buffy told him.
"Okay."
Buffy's eyes traveled his body, "Not that I am complaining, but you need to get dressed."
Angel looked down realizing his current state of dress involved boxers. Only boxers. He chuckled a bit before turning to go upstairs. Buffy took the spiral in her hands and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge. She walked into the hallway next to the kitchen, and turned to the garage entrance. She opened the garage door, grabbed the keys next to the door, and opened the garage door.
She walked down the four steps into the garage. And opened the passenger side of the car. Buffy slid in and stuck the keys in the ignition. She fiddled with the radio for a bit before settling on a radio station. She turned her head to see Angel walked down the steps. He opened the door to the car and got in.
*~*
"Hey Buffy," Willow said when Buffy sat in her seat.
"Hey," she said taking out her pen and notebook.
Oz said his hello and gave a wave. Buffy gave a small smile to him. She was less than happy Buffy, anyone could tell that. She uncapped her pen and opened the spiral. Before Willow could say anything Professor Walsh began her lecture for the day.
Buffy was trying to concentrate, but her thoughts were always wondering away form the lecture. It was Valentine's Day! A day in which was to be spent with your sweetheart, and yet here she was with... She glanced around the room; Buffy could feel someone watching her. Her gaze fell on Riley. He turned away and blushed a bit. She really wished he would leave her alone.
Riley just did not get the picture. There would never ever be a Buffy and Riley. It was just too gross. He knew that she was married, but he still would not leave her alone. Buffy thought that perhaps he was in denial. She really didn't want to hurt his feelings. All she could for now was hope he didn't do anything today. She just wanted class to end, go home, and enjoy some more time with Angel.
Willow sent her a note. 'Angel miss-age?' it said. 'Yep' Buffy wrote back. Willow, always being the encouraging friend wrote back 'Only ten more minutes'. Buffy smiled at her, perking up instantly. She glanced at Willow's notes, copying what she had missed.
Professor Walsh finished her lecture and dismissed the class. Buffy stood, taking a few seconds to talk to Willow and Oz about their plans for the rest of the day. They were planing a romantic dinner at their apartment. They had moved into a place for themselves about a month ago. Buffy said goodbye, thinking of what Angel and she were going to do for dinner.
Buffy gathered her belongings and walked outside. She felt the tingle in her stomach whenever she and Angel were close. She scanned the crowd, searching for him. Her eyes fell upon him. She walked over to him and gave him a kiss.
"Hello," he said after the kiss ended.
"Hiya. You came to pick me up?" she asked.
He shrugged, "Well, I guess I couldn't stand to be without you."
"Good," Buffy smiled.
"Well, I think that we should go home and get dressed." Angel said.
Buffy looked surprised, "For what?"
"Dinner."
A huge grin spread across Buffy's face, "Are we going anywhere?"
Angel took her hand and led her to the car, "Perhaps."
Buffy followed him, a million thoughts going through her head. Where would they go? Buffy loved and hated these surprises. She loved knowing that Angel is sweet enough to do these kinds of things, but she hated not knowing where they planned on going. And Angel's short answer left way too much for the imagination.
*~*
"So do you like what I chose?" Angel asked, sipping his wine.
"Like? I love!" Buffy smiled at him.
"Good I'm glad. How was the pasta?"
"It was excellent, I can't believe I had never heard of this place before. It's amazing."
Angel loved the way Buffy was glowing now. He was amazed that he was able to do that. She would never stop amazing him. He stood up, coming to her side of the table. He held out his hand, which she took without a second's hesitation. Together the danced to fine Italian music, happy to spend the rest of their lives with each other.
"I love you," Angel whispered in Buffy's ear.
"I love you," Buffy whispered in Angel's ear, though she had to stand on her tiptoes.
(yes, I know the end was cut short, but oh well, it's my story! and I have to go soon anyway...)
