"Annngggeeelll," Buffy called in a sing-song voice as she climbed the stairs.
"Whhaatt?" he called back from the bedroom. He was reading _Uncle Tom's Cabin_ for the millionith time.
"I love you," she buttered him, she was getting closer.
"I love you too sweethart," he smiled as he saw her blond hair come into the room.
He knew that she wanted something. The last time she used that voice she wanted a kitten. He briefly glanced down at Abby, their brown and white cat. He thought to himself that this time he was going to take a stand against her.
"No, but I really really love you," she said, trying to sound convincing.
"What do you want?" he asked, not wanting to delay.
"What? I can't tell you I love you?" she pouted.
"Well, of course you can, but really what do you want?"
She jumped on the bed. Abby, startled by the sudden movement got up and walked out of the room and then traveled downstairs.
"Since you brought up the subject..." she smiled at him. He smiled back. Buffy took a deep breath and said, "I just got off the phone with Aunt Rachel and she said that she and my uncle want to go on their second honeymoon, and was wondering if my cousin could stay with us."
She looked at him, trying to register any emotion from him. He sat there, thinking about what Buffy said and then asked her, "Okay, but tell me the conversation."
Buffy breathed a sigh of relief and continued to tell him the story. "Well, you see my Aunt Rachel and my cousin Remember--"
"No, I don't remember your cousin what's her name?"
"Her name *is* Remember, well, Rachel is my dad's sister. And she's nice enough to me and everything, but she is kind of a bitch to everyone else. Well, she wanted to know if Remember could stay with us, and that she didn't have anyone else to turn to. Mom's in LA looking at stuff for the gallery, and all my other aunts and uncles seem to be on vacation."
"Fine. Buffy, I love you and now I get to meet some of your other family. This may be a good thing," he told her.
"Oh," Buffy instantly relaxed into Angel's arms.
"So, tell me about your cousin," Angel said.
His girlfriend frowned. "Well, name's Remember, but her nickname is Mem, she is thirteen, very quiet and keeps to herself. She likes to read, I guess, and she nice."
"Oh. Well this should be interesting. I haven't lived with a thirteen year old in over two hundred years. How long is she going to be staying here?" he asked. Buffy made it sound like her cousin was boring, when Angel thought that she and he might connect.
"Five days, starting with this Friday. Aunt Rachel is going to coming by with Mem tomorrow and look at our house. She trusts me, well *us* with Mem, but I think she still wants to make sure she made the right choice. "Well," Buffy looked around, "what do you say to some cleaning?"
"Okay. Now?" Angel seemed shocked at Buffy motion to get up.
"Yes, now when did you think?"
"I don't know?" he asked.
"Come on," she said taking his hand and dragging him off of the bed.
For the rest of the day Angel cleaned around the house while Buffy did laundry and changed sheets and towels and checked to make sure that they had something for snacks and something to drink. When she opened the fridge, she found three cans of 7up, a jar of pickles, a giant size family catsup, and some really old cheese. She had no idea that that was all they had left.
"Angel!" she shouted upstairs.
"Yes?"
"We need to go to the store, we have literally nothing to eat in the house," she said as he came down the stairs. "How did we let it get like that?"
"Guess we went out more than we stayed in," he shrugged.
"Well, we need to go to the store," she re-stated.
"Lemme guess, now?" his eyebrows raised.
"Yep!"
Angel was standing in the middle of the frozen foods section, looking to see if the needed anything. Buffy made two lists, one for her, one for him. They each took a basket and half the store, deciding to meet up in the middle. He quickly grabbed a frozen pizza and stepped into the snacks sections.
All it said on his list was snacks. Nothing about a brand or anything, so he just picked two bags of chips and some sunflower seeds, he loved those. Aftert he grabbed the chips, he was just standing in the middle of the store, waiting for his love.
After fiddling with the paper he held for about five seconds, he threw away the idea of waiting for her and left to go find his love. He was looking in produce when he spotted her. She was looking at some oranges that were on sale. Angel walked over, carrying his little basket that was filled with everything the list said, and creeped up behind Buffy.
"Boo," he wispered into her ear. She turned around.
"Angel!" she shrieked. "Don't you know by now that you are not supposed to sneak up on a slayer?"
"Yeah, but you're the only one I sneak up on so I figure you'll let it slide."
"Sure, did you get your stuff?"
"Yeah, everything you said. But you, you still have yet to get your stuff," he pointed to her list.
"Wanna help me?
"Okay, I have nothing better to do."
"Just grab the milk, that's all I need," Buffy smiled sweetly.
When the two arrived home they unpacked the food from the car and re-stocked their shelves. It was at least ten o'clock after they finished the unloading.
"What is left?" Angel asked his girlfriend.
"Nothing, now we rest, and congratulate ourselves on the great job we did cleaning and shopping."
"Okay," he said as he plopped down on the couch, remote in hand.
Buffy curled up next to him and the watched some TV. At about eleven the couple went upstairs to go to bed. Awaiting the arrival of Buffy's cousin the next day.
"Hi!" Buffy said to her aunt and cousin as they stepped into the house Wednesday evening.
"Hello Buffy, and I am guessing that this is the wonderful Angel?" Aunt Rachel asked, indicating to the dark man that stood next to her.
"Yes, that would be him," Buffy smiled.
"Hello," Angel told Buffy's aunt, shaking her hand.
Remember stepped in, and looked around the house. She had black hair and pale blue eyes that searched the house. Her clothes were average, as far as clothes go, blue tee-shirt and khaki shorts. It had been a long time since Buffy had seen Mem, and since then her cousin had gained some weight. Not much, but enough to make her a little plumper than usual.
"Hi," she said.
"Hey, Mem, welcome to our home. Tour?" Buffy offered as Angel shut the door.
"Of course," Rachel said as she walked with Buffy. She explained to Buffy that her husband was working late, but wished to join them.
"Hi," Angel wispered to Remember as they walked with Buffy and Rachel.
"Hi, you're Angel?" she asked, scanning him.
"Yeah, for some time now," he lightly joked.
"Oh," was all she said and walked on, touring the house with Buffy and her mom.
While Buffy and Angel showed off their house, Rachel made sounds of impression, smiling at each room and giving comments on the great decorations.
After they saw the house the four of them sat down on the couch. for the next hour they talked about upcoming events and the family. Plans were made for Mem and her stay. She was to come at six in the morning on Friday and leave sometime Tuesday. Mem's did have school Friday and Monday, but Tuesday was a day off. Rachel and remember left a short while later and Buffy and Angel stayed home, thinking of things to do while Mem stayed with them.
That Thursday Buffy and Angel went to the park for a picnic lunch and to play frisbee. They enjoyed their day, just being together and enjoying the daylight. That night they set the alarm for bright and early.
Beep! Beep! Beep!
Angel reached over to turn the alarm off. He rolled over and wrapped his arms around Buffy's still sleeping body. He slept for about five minutes and then realized that that was the morning Remember was comming to their house. He shook Buffy.
"Hey," she said when she was awoken to his deep brown eyes.
"Morning, how are you?"
"Fine," she closed her eyes.
"Hey," he shook her, "do you *remember* what today is?"
"Huh?" she looked at him. "Oh, that, okay. Getting up now," she yawned.
They took their showers and got dressed. Together they fixed breakfast and waited for Mem to come. At about six o'clock a knock on the door, made the couple get up.
Mem was standing at the door, while Rachel waved from the car window. The car drove off before Angel could see what Buffy's uncle looked like.
"Welcome, come in," Angel told the girl.
She steeped in and smiled at him.
"How are you?" Buffy asked.
"Great, you?" Mem asked back. She seemed more open today, like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
"Great. Do you want some breakfast?" Buffy offered.
"You know what? Breakfast would be great. I didn't have any this morning, so it'd be nice. Thanks."
"Well, you know where the kitchen is," Buffy smiled as she led the girl into the kitchen.
While Mem ate her breakfast she asked Buffy and Angel questions about their relationship and just questions to get to know them.
"So, when'd you guys meet?" she asked as she took a bite of her toast.
"A couple years ago," Angel answered.
"Where?" she asked.
"At a club here, The Bronze."
"Oh, so how long have you lived together?"
"About a year or so."
She finished her breakfast and was shown her room. She spent some time unpacking with Buffy while Angel cleaned up downstairs.
"You love him?" Remember asked as she unpacked her clothes and put them into the dresser.
"Yeah, yeah I do," Buffy smiled to herself as she lay on Mem's bed.
They talked about Mem the rest of the time, well until seven thirty, Mem left, a smile on her face.
Angel and Buffy stayed at home and watched videos. During the afternoon, they decided to go downstairs and practice sparring. Buffy had gotten Angel on the mat and was standing over him.
"Good job," he told her as he got up.
"Good job? You mean great job," she said as they began again.
Angel finally took her down and she stared up at him with loving eyes.
"You exhausted too?" he asked, making a place for himself next to her.
"Yeah, I mean how long have we been doing this anyway?"
"A while," he answered.
She looked at him. He looked so great, his hair a little worse for the wear, but he still looked way hot. She leaned over and kissed him. The kiss was getting deeper when a loud cough was heard on the steps. The couple looked up to find Mem staring at them.
"Honey, I'm home," she announced.
"We see," Angel smiled as he got up.
"You guys do that a lot?" she wondered as the three of them went upstairs.
"Well, most couples do kiss,' Buffy pointed out.
"No," Mem laughed, "that fighting thing that you were doing."
"Yeah, I guess we do," Buffy shrugged as she took three cans of pop out of the fridge.
They sat at the table and talked some more. Mostly about school. When Mem mentioned that she had a ton of homework to do, and a paper to write, Angel suggested she do it right then. He got strange looks from both Buffy and Mem.
"What?" he questioned at their stares.
"You just asked her to do her homework on a Friday night, like the day before the weekend. The same weekend that allows her to work during the time that school isn't," Buffy told him.
He thought about that, then shook his head. He shouldn't say anything, after all he was staying in a house with a teenager and his love. Now he didn't know about the teenager, but his love could convice him to do anything, which means that he should agree with what they say. Who knows what could happen if they team up against him.
"Fine, fine, whatever you say."
"Well, what are we gonna do tonight?" Mem asked as she took a swig of her soda.
"Huh?" Angel asked.
"Come on, Friday night? We can't just stay home and play Twister. We have to do something, anything, please?" she begged, her ice blue eyes focused on Angel.
"Okay, what do you want to do?" he asked her.
"Uhhh, mall?"
"No way!" Angel said, a little loud.
Buffy added, to Mem's hurt look, "Bad last expierence."
"Uhhh, movies?"
"Well," Buffy weighed the options. The last trip to the movies had turned out a little, different. But hey, she could see a movie.
"How about we rent some good old horror movies instead?" Buffy suggested.
"Fine with me," Mem said.
At the movie store Buffy, Mem, and Angel were looking at all the different scary movies. Angel wanted to get _The Exorcist_, Buffy wanted to get _Scream_, but was reminded that that wasn't an older horror movie. So she got _The Birds_, and Mem finally chose one of the many _Dracula_ movies.
Here were three people on Friday night watching three older horror movies, in the dark. After watching _The Birds_ and _Dracula_ they were ready to watch _The Exorcist_. It seemed that Mem had a high tolerance for fear, she had pretty much yawned through the birds attack and was about to fall asleep during _Dracula_.
Throughout the second movie Buffy and Angel were exchanging comments about _Dracula_'s production, all of it's flaws. Mem, thinking it was a joke, just laughed.
"So, onto Linda Blair with her split pea soup scene?" Mem asked after her movie was over.
"It is kinda late," Buffy looked at the clock, twelve o'clock.
"Okay, so we'll watch it tomorrow?"
"Sure, but now, bed time," she yawned.
"Alright, goodnight," Mem told the couple as she walked up the stairs. "Oh and you guys?"
"Yeah?" Angel answered.
"Thanks for taking me in, I mean it was really nice of you," she smiled and then went upstairs.
Buffy and Angel turned off the lights and went upstairs. They got ready for bed and fell asleep with their arms wrapped around each other, very much in love.
Buffy stumbled down the stairs the next morning, eyes just barely open. She walked into the kitchen and found Angel and Mem talking over breakfast.
"Hey," she mumbled.
"Morning," Angel said as he kissed her. "How are you?"
"A little sleepy, but good," she smiled at him.
"Good."
She looked at Mem and said her good morning and sat down at the table. Angel brought over a plate of eggs and some orange juice. She nodded to him as a form of thank you and started eating.
"So Mem and I were talking and she has a party today," Angel told Buffy after she took a sip of her juice.
"Oh? I assume you want to go," Buffy looked at Mem.
"Yeah, but I do need a ride there, it's not far, a neighboring town of Sunnydale so..." she trailed off.
"That's be fine, who's party is it?"
"Lisa and Cori's. They wanted to have a party a long time ago and I guess they figured that today would be a great day," she replied.
"What time?" Buffy asked.
"One o'clock."
"Okay, well what do you say to finishing breakfast, showering, and then heading out?" she asked the teen.
"Great, thanks."
Buffy finished eating and Angel went upstairs to take a shower. Mem and Buffy were in Buffy's bedroom when Angel walked into the room. wearing only a towel.
"Sorry," he apologized, "forgot my clothes."
He stepped back in the bathroom, and Mem looked after him.
"Hey!" Buffy lightly hit her.
"What? You admit it, he looks good in a towel," she laughed.
"Yeah, but he's mine, and he's a little old for you, don't ya think?"
She nodded, "Yeah, but by the looks of things he looks a little old for you too, huh?"
"Love doesn't know age," Buffy defended.
"Whatever. So when did he get that tatoo?"
"Oh, a while ago," Buffy said, then changed the subject, "so are you good friends with Lisa and Cori?"
"Yeah, the three of us are best friends, sharing interests, secrets, and clothes. They're nice."
"That's good."
Angel came out of the bathroom, this time dressed, and Mem took her shower. When she was done, she knocked on the door, after no answer she stepped in. She found Buffy and Angel making out.
"Gawd! Is that all you guys do?" Mem asked from her position at the door.
"Yeah, pretty much, but we're not changing," Buffy laughed as she got up, "I'm gonna have cold water, aren't I?"
"Probably," Angel smiled.
After Buffy's shower the three left for Cori's house. Mem was dropped off, and Angel and Buffy left to go over to the gym, they were bored after driving around for ten minutes.
They had an exhausting day at the gym, and when Buffy saw Angel talking on the cell to Mem, it was already eight o'clock. Angel told her that Mem was ready to come home, and that he was very tired. Buffy offered to drive.
"Well, I'm not *that* tired," he reasoned.
"Please?" her eyes begged.
"Fine," he grumbled.
They picked Remember up and went home. After deciding that they were going to watch _The Exorcist_ then go to bed. Mem was really getting into the movie when Angel left to go pop popcorn. The movie ended and the same thing happened as last night. Mem said goodnight and left upstairs, Buffy and Angel said their goonights and turned the lights off and went upstairs to sleep themselves.
Sunday morning the trio went out to breakfast and then went to Wal Mart. They spent the day shopping around the store, picking up a few items and mostly looking at others. Angel watched as Buffy and Mem tryed on clothes and every now and then he commented on these clothes. Only good things, though. He knew what constructive criticism could lead too. Usually a night on the couch.
When they arrived home, which was about two o'clock, Mem started her homework. Buffy and Angel helped, when they could. Mem also had to write that paper. She locked herself in her room and turned the radio on. She stayed in her room for three hours, getting up once to go to the bathroom. When she finished her paper, she came out and asked to use Buffy and Angel's computer. They only had a laptop and portable printer, but it would have to do.
After dinner they watched TV. As always Buffy and Angel watched _X-Files_, and were happy to introduce EBE's and UFO's to Remember. The whole hour Mem's eyes were glued to the TV, watching every move the actors and actresses made.
"You like?" Buffy asked her cousin.
"I love," she said. "Do I have to go to school tomorrow?"
"Yeah, but only for six hours, that's not that bad," Angel told her.
"Still, I think that they should change the school day, it's boring enough, I mean what would a little change hurt?"
"Don't know," Buffy shrugged. "But, I do know that if you want to get to school on time that you should get to bed now."
"Going, goodnight," she said.
"Night," Angel called back.
Buffy and Angel watched TV for some while longer, and ended up making out again. They were once again interrupted by a loud cough from Mem.
"I had to go to the bathroom and noticed that the lights were still on downstairs. I have now confirmed that all you guys do is make out, and don't try to deny it, goodnight," she headed back upstairs.
Buffy and Angel laughed to themselves and got up and went to bed.
When Angel woke up on Monday morning he walked into Mem's bedroom. She had already left for school, it was eight o'clock. He had forgotten to set the alarm and Mem must had left for school. She had gotten up, taken a shower, probably got dressed, and left for school, all while he and Buffy slept.
He went downstairs and ate breakfast. Buffy joined him later, and together they ate breakfast. They spent the day doing nothing, and were taking a nap when Mem came home. She ate an apple when she got home and watched some TV. She was bored so she did her homework, consisting of algebra and French. Mem was trying to figure out her French homework when Angel walked downstairs.
"Welcome back," he yawned.
"Thanks, how was your nap?"
"Very nice, thanks," he smiled.
"Angel?"
"Yeah?"
"I know you just woke up and everything, but do you knolw French by any chance?"
He nodded.
"Great, you wanna help me?"
"Sure," he walked over to her and sat on the couch next to her.
"Okay, if I wanted to say..." she started and the two of them worked on her homework for half and hour.
Buffy stumbled dpwnstairs, only to hear French comming from her living room. She walked in, to see Angel helping Mem with her homework.
"How long was my Rip Van Winkle?" she asked.
"A couple hours, come here, you know French too," Angel patted the couch.
"Yeah, but I've never spoken to French people before," she pointed out. "Infact I am getting pretty good at saying 'the cow touched me from Thursday'."
To her love and cousin's weird looks she added, "Nevermind."
"Well, I'm sure you could help someway," Mem said.
"How about I just go freshen up for dinner?"
"Okay," Angel said.
Buffy went back upstairs and Mem gave him a questioning glance.
"Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you, we decided to go out to dinner tonight," Angel explained.
"Cool, when?"
"Whenever Buffy comes down, so I think we still have a couple hours left," Angel chuckled.
After about ten miniutes Mem finished her homework and went upstairs herself to go freshen up. Another ten minutes later both girls came down. Though they weren't going to a fancy restaurant, Mem still wanted to look nice.
"Well, both of you look beautiful," Angel complimented.
"Why, thank you," Buffy kissed him on the cheek.
"What do you think of us leaving before it gets any later?" Angel offered.
"I'd say that that's good," Mem nodded.
They left for dinner, the radio playing Angel's classical music. Even though Buffy and Remember groaned, they still listened to it. They arrived at the restaurant, were seated, and served. Mem was telling them plans for an upcomming project she had to do for school. When the meal was over the three got back in the car and drove home.
Mem wanted to stay up as late as possible, so she did, while Angel and Buffy made out upstairs. After all they had taken a nap and weren't sleepy, and there was a kid downstairs. Mem went to bed at about twelve, she was getting tired and was wondering if she could talk Buffy and Angel into a movie tomorrow morning. She fell asleep wondering what movies they could see.
"Morning," Buffy said, amused at Mem's unsure steps. It was obvious that she had just woken up.
"Yeah, listen I was wondering do you think we could go see a movie this morning?"
"Well, Angel just left for the gym and your mom called saying that the plane just got in and they're going to be picking you up soon."
"Oh, okay, well thanks for telling me that, and would you mind helping me with my stuff?"
"Sure," Buffy went back upstairs with Remember to help her pack up her things.
At about eleven there was a knock at the door. Buffy opened it to find a very tan Aunt Rachel and a very red uncle. She chuckled to herself.
"Remember! Your family's here!" she shouted up the stairs.
Mem came down and hugged her mother, and seeing her very sunburned father she kissed him lightly on the cheek. Rachel Buffy very much for taking Mem in, and gave her a lei and some perfume of some kind.
"Thanks," Buffy said when she got these gifts, "but you didn't have to."
"Sure we did. Anyone who takes care of Mem, deserves even a little something. Well, we gotta run, bye!" Rachel shouted behind her as they left.
"Bye Buffy! Tell Angel I said bye, would you?" Mem said before she left with her mom and dad.
"Sure, bye!" Buffy waved.
When Angel got back he sniffed the air, "What is that smell?"
"Oh, it's the perfume that Aunt Rachel got me from Hawaii, I am not sure how it is supposed to smell, but I hope that this isn't it," Buffy waved the air in front of her.
"Okay, so I take it Mem left already?"
"Yeah, about an hour ago, now we have the whole house to ourselves," she smiled at him.
"That'll be nice," Angel kissed her.
"Don't I know it," Buffy kissed back.
Angel suddenly pulled back, "Buffy, can I ask you a question?"
"Sure, what?"
"What's your uncle's name?"
