Setting: This is a happy universe where Angel realized how unique the love he and Buffy shared was, so he decided not to leave. He was also granted mortality by the Powers that be (which will be explained later), he and Buffy have been married 18 months and have a seven month old baby.
Dedication: To the always inspiring Cat for just being her, and to all bridesmaids who have ever had to wear dresses they dislike.
Buffy looked at the reflection in the mirror and sighed, turning to the side she studied her profile as tears began to form, she couldn't believe she had agreed to this. no matter how she observed the figure before her in the mirror she could find no redeeming characteristics hidden amongst the metre's of fabric.
"Buffy, it must be on by now, hurry up, I mean if you think I have all day to see you" Cordy's tirade was cut short as the blonde slayer emerged from the fitting room.
"Cordy, I really don't think this is the right dress for me" Buffy cautiously began "I mean the color does absolutely nothing for me and"
"Buffy, lets review here, I think I know a little more about fashion and believe me when I say that tangerine and puce are the colors for the season, we have already tried Willow in the puce and to be kind well I have seen vamps with more color than she had. So it's yours, beside, I am the bride and all the attention must be on me, and in the dress I have chosen it will be. I will not have Willow or you stealing my thunder. God I thought you would both be thanking me at least this way you both will have one fashionable item in your wardrobe. Now stand still so the tailor can hem it."
Buffy gritted her teeth and wondered how she had ever agreed to be the former cheerleader's matron of honor.
ONE MONTH EARLIER
"Buffy, please I think you are the best choice, you photograph well which is important, you're short like Willow so the photos will be proportioned and finally, as I am marrying a demon you never know who will show up and you may need to do some slaying." Cordelia bluntly informed her over lunch "Besides, Angel is Doyle's best man, would you rather watch him dance with some other girl, I think not."
Buffy sighed and finally agreed "What do I need to do, wear, organize etc..."
"Not much I already have the color scheme planned tangerine and puce, (at this announcement Buffy inhaled the soda she was drinking), Doyle's already booked everything for the ceremony so you just have to make sure I am calm, and help me look beautiful on the day." After casting an appraising eye over the slayer in front of her she amended "Actually I don't think you will be all that much help with the beauty bit, maybe you can pass me my make up, will find something for you to do."
PRESENT
Buffy slid into the driver's seat of the convertible Jaguar and began to massage the pounding at her temples, puce, who would ever think of as puce as the color for their wedding. She knew this day could couldn't get any worse, she had a young baby at home who was teething so a night tending her seven month daughter was on the cards, and then in the morning her bridesmaid role continued with a vengeance Willow was co-hosting a bridal shower for the May Queen. Never again she vowed as she pulled into the driveway of the mansion.
As always, Buffy's breath caught as she opened the impressive doors into her house, some of her most horrifying moments had occurred here, it was in this foyer that she had sent her love to hell, where she thought he would remain for eternity. Her eyes darted to the wall adorned with photos of their miracle, she had been chained there as she and Angel had deceived Faith into announcing the plans for the mayor's ascension, slowly each memory of heartache, each tear was being replaced with laughter and happiness. She knew it took time, and as always she thanked the powers that be for allowing Angel and her that time.
Her heart melted as usual when she spotted him clad only in low slung worn Levis, standing in the courtyard, holding their daughter Isabella Joy, their miracle in the late afternoon sun. He must have heard her approach or as she always did sensed when his mate was near. "Hey baby, you're early, I would have thought you would be at the dress shop for hours yet." Angel murmured as he bent to sweep his lips across hers.
"Well, it doesn't take that long to hem a dress, and you know Corody she has it set in her mind that Will and I will be wearing the colors of the season to her oh so stylish wedding, it didn't really matter that we both hate, no scrap that loathe what we are wearing, cause as I was told today she is the bride and therefore has been granted dictatorship rights regarding all wedding decisions, discussions will not be entered into. Anyway, how's our girl?"
"She's been fussy, you can see the middle tooth on the bottom coming through, so we've been lapping the house it seems to be the only thing which will settle her. Regarding the dress, you know you look beautiful in everything or even better nothing." He replied raising an eyebrow.
Buffy giggled as she Bella in her arms out of the sun, "Let me remind you of that comment when you see the dress."
