Human… It was still a shock to him. He was going to be human. It's funny how people say there is that one moment in your life when you know that everything's changed, and nothing is ever going to be the same.
This was it, the point where he really started over, got a second chance. If someone had asked him a year ago why he wanted to be human, what he would do with his life as a human, it would have all revolved around Buffy, but now… Now he had his own life, and her, her own life, and strange as it may sound he liked it this way. He felt like he could finally be himself, he had friends, true friends, and he wouldn't give them up for the world.
She had moved on, he didn't want to sound mean, but he was surprised. Surprised that she had moved on that quick. Surprised that, in his opinion, she had sold herself short. Surprised that most of all, she didn't care. Surprised, that was the word to describe it best.
Not upset, not mad, not regretful just surprised. He never thought the day would come when he heard himself say that, but it was true. He liked his new life, no, not liked, loved it, the appreciation of all those he helped was just part of it, being in a new city where he wasn't know as Buffy's creature-of-the-night boyfriend, but as Angel, Private Investigator. He helped the Helpless, he liked that. Many would think that he did it because he had to, but he actually liked it, how weird was that? He would never truly be over Buffy and probably in the end of the road they would be together, but for now, he liked his freedom, and he liked his life just the way it was.
Others might think he was insane, but he and a few others Cordelia, Wesley, and Doyle mainly knew the real story. The one that started In Los Angeles, the city of Angels.
Los Angeles, a beacon, you see it at night and it shines, people were drawn to it for all sorts of reasons, my reason, I needed a second chance. So maybe he did have a long way to go until I got that second chance, my freedom, but I wasn't going to waste a day of this life, or the next. If I had learned one lesson it would be that just because you leave, doesn't mean you escape.
This was my life, and I loved it.
