SUMMARY: Cordy throws Buffy and Angel an engagement party.

TIMELINE: Six years after (S1) ATS and (S4) BTVS
CONTENT: Riley and Kate bashing (slight)

THE APARTMENT (2 WEEKS AFTER DADDY DEAREST)

Buffy was lying in bed, trying to take the nap that she'd promised Angel she would, when she heard a large crash. She got up and walked out of the bedroom and right into Cordy.

"Oh good, you're awake. So what do you think?" Cordy asked her.

"Of what?" Buffy answered, sleepily.

Cordy pointed around the living room and said, "The decorations?"

"Great Cordy. But why are you decorating my apartment?" Buffy questioned.

"I'm throwing you and Angel an engagement party" Cordy told her, as if it was the most obvious answer in the world.

"Cool. When is it?"

Cordy looked at her watch and replied, "In about three hours".

"What?" Buffy exclaimed, "Isn't that a little short notice".

"It's a surprise party" Cordy explained.

Not having the strength to argue, Buffy said "Ok. So who'd you invite?"

"Well, of course there's you and Angel, not to mention myself, Doyle, Wesley and Oz" Cordy told her.

"Is that all?" Buffy said, feeling momentarily relieved at not having to face everyone that she knew.

"No silly. There's also Kate, your dad, the gang from Sunnydale and of course your mom" Cordy mentioned, as she adjusted he decorations.

"Let me get this straight, you invited Kate the cow" Buffy said, "you know I hate her".

"I only invited her so I can see her face when she finds out Angel is getting married to and having a baby with you" Cordy justified.

Buffy thought for a moment and said, "Ok. But how do you explain inviting both of my parents, who by the way hate each other and my mom who is acting like a total bitca over Angel and my relationship?" Buffy questioned.

"It would've been rude to invite one and not the other" Cordy said.

Buffy rolled her eyes and told Cordy, "Since mom and I aren't speaking, she probably won't come, so I won't have to kill you. However I can't wait to see what Willow and Tara do to you when they run into Oz".

"Oh boy. I so did not think about that, did I" Cordy said, worriedly.

"Don't worry I'm sure things will work out" Buffy said, trying to comfort Cordy.

When she was feeling better Cordy made Buffy help her set up things for the party.

When Angel returned to the apartment, from the sewer, he thought he'd entered the wrong place. It was decorated for a party, he stood there in confusion until Buffy came into the room.

"Hey" Buffy said, kissing him hello, "Did you get the demon?"

"Yeah, I did" Angel said. He stared at the apartment for a few more seconds then asked, "What's going on here?"

"Cordy is throwing us a surprise engagement party" Buffy explained.

"Really? Who'd she invite?" Angel asked hoping it was just the office staff and maybe Hank.

"Everyone" Buffy replied.

"Great, just great" Angel muttered.

Buffy hugged him and said, "I totally agree".

"So how long until the invasion?" Angel asked, nibbling on Buffy's neck.

"Not long enough for that" Buffy said, "But you do have enough time to shower and change".

"No fair" Angel whined, into Buffy's neck.

"Well, I'll tell you this Mr sex maniac" Buffy whispered, "If you behave yourself at the party, I'll make it up to you later".

With that Angel pushed Buffy away and raced for the shower. Cordy came up beside her and said, "How did you get him to do that?"

"The usual. I bribed him with sex" Buffy replied.

"I'll have to remember that" Cordy muttered.

Just then Wesley arrived, and said "Hello".

"Hey Wes, your early?" Buffy said.

"I thought I'd come and see if you needed any help" Wesley answered.

"Cool" Cordy said, dragging Wesley into the kitchen to help set out the food. Buffy followed silently, trying not to laugh at Cordy putting a pink frilly apron on Wesley.

THE OFFICE

An hour later the other guests started to arrive, starting with Doyle, Oz and Kate. Buffy was managing to avoid Kate, as she talked to the others, but was almost cornered when they headed into the office with Angel for some sort of debriefing. She was saved when a voice yelled, "Buffy".

"Wils" Buffy said, pushing Kate out of the way in order to greet one of her best friends. They hugged and Willow was about to say something, when she was interrupted by the arrival of Xander and Anya.

"Hey Buffinator, congrats" Xander said.

"Xandman, right back at ya" Buffy replied hugging him. Then she turned to Anya and said "Hi".

"Spike couldn't come. Where's the food?" Anya responded.

"Downstairs" Buffy said, as Anya took off in the direction of the lift. "Why don't you all go on down, I have to wait for my dad" she told them.

Willow and Tara had just gone down the stairs, as Oz came out of Angel's office. "Hey" he said to Xander, as he picked up a file and went back into the office.

Xander looked at Buffy in shock and said, "Was that Oz?"

"Yeah" Buffy said, guiltily.

"I'm guessing that Willow doesn't know?"

"You guessed right" Buffy answered.

"Wow and to think Spike wouldn't come because he thought tonight would be boring" Xander said, heading downstairs.

Buffy was about to shut the door, when she heard someone say "Shutting me out Pumpkin?"

"Hey dad" she said, greeting him with a hug.

Hank returned his daughters hug and asked, "Where's Angel?"

"Hey, did you come here to see me or Angel?" Buffy teased.

"Ang...I mean you of course" Hank teased back.

"Angel will be here in a moment. He's just finishing up a case" Buffy told him, as she grabbed his hand and headed downstairs.

ANGEL'S OFFICE

Angel noticed that the outer office had gone quiet, and said "We'd better finish this tomorrow. I think the party is starting". He looked around and saw three glum faces, "What's wrong?" he asked.

"Cordy said no drinking alcohol" Doyle replied, depressed.

"Willow" Oz said.

"Xander Harris" Wesley answered, thinking of all the mocking the boy sent in his direction.

"Well get over it. Do you think I like to go to parties? No, I don't, but we have to go", Angel said walking to the door.

They all lined up and followed Angel, to what they believed was their doom.

THE APARTMENT

An hour later, everything seemed to be going well. Doyle had discovered that you don't need alcohol to have fun, especially if you have Cordy, and Wesley was having a good time talking with Tara. The only thing that was wrong, was that Oz had disappeared, but Angel figured he couldn't deal with Willow being there. Angel, himself was having a great time, with Buffy by his side talking to Hank. That's when things started to go bad.

It started with Giles' arrival, he walked up to Buffy and said "I'm sorry, but I couldn't stop her".

Angel was about to ask Giles what he meant, when he saw Joyce enter the apartment with a guy who looked suspiciously like a fish. That's when he heard Buffy say, "Oh my god. She brought Riley".

Angel looked back across the room to them and finally realised something, that the fishboy was never and would never be a threat to his and Buffy's relationship.

Joyce grabbed Riley's arm and led him over to where Buffy, Angel and Hank were standing. "Hello" Joyce said, abruptly.

"Hi Buffy" Riley said, giggling like a girl.

"Mother, fishboy" Buffy said in acknowledgment.

That's when Hank broke in by saying, "This is low Joyce, even for you".

"Stay out of it" Joyce told Hank.

Angel stepped forward and introduced himself to Riley, "Hi, I'm Angel. Buffy's fiancé".

Riley visibly paled at this and whispered to Joyce, "You didn't tell me she was engaged".

"It doesn't matter" Joyce whispered back.

"Yes, it does. Look at him, he's so attractive. How could I compete with that" Riley said, turning and walking away with Joyce following him.

Angel was about to say something, when a scream was heard from the vicinity of the bedroom. When they got over there they found Tara, stood in the doorway shocked by whatever she had seen. Angel gently moved her out of the way and he and Buffy entered the bedroom, to find Willow and Oz making out, totally oblivious to the chaos they were causing.

Buffy called Giles over and asked him, "Would you please take Tara home?"

"Certainly Buffy" he replied looking at the scene in front of him, "But what about Willow?"

"Angel and I will make sure she gets home" Buffy said.

Giles took Tara by the arm and walked her from the apartment.

It took five minutes but they finally gave up on trying to break apart Willow and Oz. "I think they're super glued together or something" Cordy said, as she came in.

"Maybe we should leave them alone" Buffy said.

"Agreed" Angel and Cordy chorused, as they all quickly left the room.

A few hours later, as Buffy was occupied saying goodbye to the guests, Kate cornered Angel.

"Hey" she said, "Long time no see".

"Hi Kate. Been busy" Angel replied.

"So why was Cordelia throwing this party?" she asked him.

"It was an engagement party" Angel said, staring at Buffy, wondering how quickly he could empty the apartment, so he could be alone with her.

Kate seemed oblivious to Angel's distraction, asked "Who's getting married?"

"Buffy and I are"

With that, Kate's face contorted, so that it looked like a monkey's butt. It was the opportunity, Cordy had been waiting for, the second Kate's face did that Cordy shoved a camera in her face and took several pictures.

When Kate had recovered she called Cordy a bitch and marched out of the apartment. This caused Cordy to comment, "What bug crawled up her butt?".

Angel who had watched the scene unfold, stood there no quite believing that it had actually happened. Buffy came up to him and said, "Baby, what's wrong?"

"Cordy...Kate...camera" he tried to figure out how to explain it, finally giving up he said, "Nothing".

Buffy gave him a quick kiss and said, "Everyone's leaving, let's say goodbye".

A half an hour later everyone had left, including Willow and Oz who had mysteriously disappeared. Angel flopped down on the couch and said "I thought it would never end, I am so tired".

"Well then" Buffy began, sitting on his lap, " I guess this means you're too tired to play with Buffy".

"I think I have enough energy left for that" Angel said.

Buffy kissed him passionately, climbed off his knee and walked off towards the bedroom. She was halfway there when she turned around and said, "Are you coming or not?"

Angel jumped up, ran over to where she was standing and scooped her up into his arms. They headed for the bedroom for a private celebration.
