Buffy watched as her friends danced. Willow had Oz. Xander had Anya. Even Wesley has someone to dance with, in the form of Cordelia. Another song begins to play in the background, but the Slayer hardly notices it. All she can think about is her Angel. Why was he leaving her? They had just gotten their lives back together, and now he's leaving. Buffy felt like her heart was broken into a million pieces.

A mountain of stone, a door of steel
Can't stand in my way, I'd go on
Brutal machines, unbending laws
Can't slow me down, I'd go on\

Giles sees Buffy sadly watching her friends dance at their Senior Prom. He walks over and stands next to her.

"You did good work tonight, Buffy," he tells her.

Buffy smiles and holds up her umbrella, her trophy for being Class Protector. "Yeah, and I got a toy surprise!"

Giles nods. "Yes. I really had no idea that children –en masse-could be gracious."

Buffy, remembering how her classmates had cheered when she received her award, looked at Giles. "Every now and then, people surprise you."

I've learned how to deal and when to fight
I know what's real, I know what's right
I'm not afraid, a wounded dove
I can be tender in a world so tough\

Giles looks towards the door and notices someone walk through it. Angel. In a tux. He smiles, and meets Angel's gaze. "Every now and then."

I'm sure I could face the bitter cold
But life without you, I don't know\

Buffy looks up at Giles, staring at the door. She looks over and sees her Angel. Giles steps away, taking her umbrella with him. Buffy and Angel walk and meet on the dance floor.

"I never though you'd come." She tells him, afraid that this is a dream. Angel is here, with her. This has to be a dream.

"It's a big night. I didn't want to miss it," He pauses. "It's just for tonight. It doesn't mean that…."

Buffy stops him. "I know. I mean… I understand."

The winds of the heart can blow me down
But I get right up and I stand my ground
I've tasted fear, my share of pain
The wasted tears of love in vain\

Angel smiles at her and holds out his hand. "Will you dance with me?"

He has to ask? "Of course." Buffy replies as Angel pulls her into his arms. She closes her eyes and lays her head against his chest. Angel puts his head on top her and also closes his eyes. He didn't think anything could hurt as much as this. He didn't want to leave her, but he couldn't deny her the chance at a normal life.

I've held you tight, pushed you away
Now with all my might, I beg you to stay

I'm sure I could face the bitter cold
But life without you, I don't know

I know what I want, I know what I need
But there's just one thing I must believe
Deep in the night by a dying flame
You will be there when I call your name

I'm sure I could face the bitter cold
But life without you, I don't know

I don't know\

As the song stopped, Buffy felt tears come to her eyes. She had her perfect moment with Angel, and now it's over. Gone. Forever. She couldn't let this happened. She was not going to let Angel just walk out of her life. Buffy looked up at Angel and spoke softly. "I need to talk to you."

"Here?"

"No, not here. My mom's in LA for tonight. Come back to my house with me."

Angel sighed. He knew what this would be about, but she deserved the right to talk. "Okay. Do you want to leave now?"

"Yeah, Prom's almost over anyway."

Angel took the Slayer's hand in his and they walked out of the gym.

* * *

Angel sat on Buffy's bed, wondering what to do. He knew he was about to get yelled at, and deep in his heart, he knew he deserved it. As he was thinking, Buffy walked in. She had changed out of her Prom dress and was now wearing sweatpants and a tank top with her hair pulled up in a ponytail. Angel opened his mouth to speak.

"Buffy, I…"

She cut him off angrily. "Don't open your mouth. Don't speak while I'm speaking. You are going to listen to every damn word I say! I am not letting you just run away. I am not letting you just walk out of my life! Do you know how much hell you put me through?! Huh? You have NO IDEA! You have no right to decide what's best for me. This is MY life. Not yours or my mother's or anyone else's." She yelled at him.

Angel looked down. He knew he deserved every bit of yelling he was getting. He spoke gently to her. "Buffy, honey, I love you. You know that all I'm doing is trying to is help you. I don't want you to grow up and regret never having a normal life with a regular guy."

Buffy looked at him and broke down crying. "Can't you see that I don't want anyone but you? I will never love anyone but you. I'm a Slayer. I don't get a normal life. Any guy that I would date, I would put in danger. You understand what I'm going through. You can help me. But I can't do it alone. I don't want to do it alone. I want my life to be with you."

Angel got off the bed and walked over to her and pulled her into a tight hug. She sobbed into his chest. "Shhh, Shhh. Don't cry, don't cry. I'm right here."

She looked up. "But for how long? How long will you be here? A day? A month? After the Ascension, you already said you're leaving. I can't be without you. I can't have my life without you."

Angel sighed. He knew what he was getting ready to tell her would help her, but he didn't know if it was the right thing. "Buffy. I'm… I'm not leaving."

The Slayer looked up, her eyes red and puffy from crying. "W-what?"

"I'm not leaving. I'm not leaving you. I was wrong to think I could just walk out of your life. You are the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me. I love you so much, and I want to be with you."

"Are you sure, or are you just saying this?"

"I'm sure. I promise, that as long as you live, I'll be by your side."

Buffy smiled as Angel brought his head down for a kiss.

She got her perfect high school moment after all.

The End.
