//Sometimes I tell you
The way that I feel
I swear that
I'm going crazy//

Angel stood over her grave, his fingers tracing the top of the tombstone. He regretted a lot of things in his life, and now he had another one to add to the list; telling her he didn't want to be a part of her life.

He dreamed of what life would have been like with her. Fighting demons by her side every night, and curling up to her in bed every dawn. Some days he practically lived in his dream world.

//Keep telling myself
It ain't that big a deal
It's better than
Pushing up daises//

His mind wandered to all the times he'd wished her peace in her life. All the times he wished she could have just been a regular girl and enjoyed life. Never knowing of the monsters in the dark.

He never would have wished it happened this way. This was not the kind of peace he wanted for her.

//I felt the arrow from
Death's fatal quiver
Come so close
It actually grazed me//

He had come so close to dying, so many times, he'd lost count. But he remembered the one that had come the closest. When Faith poisoned him with that arrow, he'd actually accepted the fact that he would die as a result. And she found a cure.and risked herself to cure him.

//I bled the blood and
I felt the cold shiver
God only knows why
He saved me//

She risked her life every night, but that one risk meant the most to him. That one risk, that one taste of her blood, connected them in ways she would never know. No one had ever willingly given him blood before.or since.

Although why she was chosen to lie here, instead of him, he'd never know. Why the Powers that Be chose her to die, an innocent girl in the prime of her life, instead of him, who had lived several lifetimes, and done things Lucifer himself would be embarrassed about, he would never understand.

//There's two dates in time
That they'll carve
On your stone
And everyone knows
What they mean.
What's more important is
The time that is known
In that little dash
There in between//

Angel sat on the ground, his fingers lightly tracing the numbers on her grave. Her life had been so short. She was only twenty years old. She didn't deserve to die so young.

But then he thought of her life - all she had been through, all she had done, and it hit him.

It was time to let her rest. Time to let her escape the monsters in her life, and enjoy where he was sure she was.

Angel stood and wiped the tears from his face. He knew what he had to do now. He had to carry on the fight. He had to go on protecting the people she sacrificed herself for, or she would have died in vain.

He brought his fingers to his mouth, lightly brushing them against his lips. "I love you, Buffy," he quietly mumbled, as he brushed his "kiss" on her tombstone. "May you finally find your peace."

The End
