A Few Minutes

by Tiara

Disclaimer: Don't own either Buffy or angel. Joss owns Buffy and Angel.
Summary: Okay, we all know how heartless MR. J
Timeline: In semi-happier semi-angst land that was Season 3 of Buffy. Spoilers for the episode The Zeppo. It takes place kind of right in between scenes/after the episode itself. Remember how Oz said: But Angel's gonna be all right? /Buffy: He was only out for a few minutes. Longest of my life./ Keep that in mind.
Rating: Same as the show.
Notes: This is a one-shot. A mini-fic. I wanted to actually put out something that had a start and finish. Emphasis on finish... which I have yet to do with... many, many stories...

It was only a few minutes. That was all, and it wasn't as if something like this hadn't happened before. Not the huge monster that was the essence of the Hellmouth thing, but the Angel being knocked out thing.

Yes, that thing was what was really troubling her.

But she had no choice but to wait impatiently, cradling his head in her lap and pressing on of his hands to her heart. She spared a glance towards Giles and Willow again. She could already see the shiner start to form on Willow's cheek, saw some of the drying blood on Giles. Faith said she was cool, even though she had a few bruises herself and a fractured wrist.

Buffy hadn't gone without being hurt either. She felt a throb in the arm that lay almost limply next to her thigh. But it didn't matter now. Angel was still out, his eyes were closed, his body still...

Though he was dead, to see him unmoving and without even the occasional eye movement was disturbing. She leaned over him, pressed a kiss to his brow, and whispered her love to him again.

Another minute passed by, in which Giles laid a heavy hand on her shoulder. He asked her softly if she wanted her wounds attended to. She shook her head, a murmured that Willow should be attended to first. Her Watcher nodded, and soon, the pair were in Giles' office.

Buffy briefly thought of Xander. She was glad he had stayed away as they had repeatedly commanded him to. It was for the best.

"Hi."

"Ah-!" Buffy's eyes widened, her heart thudding happily. She gazed down at him and saw his own eyes staring back. She let out a tiny cry, bending over him. Crooning and kissing his face while clutching at his hand that finally clutched back. He was okay, everybody was fine.

A soft exchange of love, and she finally held him.

------

"How are you?"

A simple question. One that didn't take too much thought, really.

He tilted his head a bit, moved a muscle, and winced. She took notice of it immediately, and hovered near. Angel shook his head. If anything, he should be fussing over her. It was her arm in a sling, her eyes that were weary, her body radiating fatigue and exhaustion.

Yet, she still managed to visit him after school. With her face painted prettily and wearing warm clothes to hold off the late winter chills. He sat up, even as she began to reach out with her good arm.

Gently, he took her hand and pulled. She understood, moving under the covers as he held them out for her. Making sure that she lay on the side of her good arm, for he didn't want to risk her pain.

His arm came around her, smoothing down her shoulder and then tracing nonsense patterns down her back. He leaned forward, kissed her brow, heard her whisper how much she took comfort in being in his embrace.

More words were exchanged. Words that didn't really matter at this time. Concerns that were already known and dealt with. Worries that continued their worrying. Plans that needn't be planned.

She nuzzled her nose against the base of his neck, feeling drowsy and not entirely there. He bent his head down, pushing back her hair from her cheek. The kiss lingered there and then lingered again as it moved to her jaw line.

A quick motion, and she had pushed her face closer. He moved his arm up, curled his long fingers around her neck and moved forward. She accepted his kisses, wishing she could move more to give him back what he offered her. With her lips, she did as best she could. Nibbling and holding.

He pulled away too soon, but contented himself by rubbing his nose gently against hers.

She looked up at him, her eyes doe like, her lips pouty. He kissed her again, and then held her close.

The End.

Wow, that was short... but it was fluffy, ya? ^_^ Good! And did you notice there's hardly any dialogue at all? Ah, I am good~!
