Dedication: To Angel, my puppy, who inspired me to write this after scratching at my door 2:30 in the morning.
"Please, Angel?"
"I don't know, Buffy,"
"Come on. It'll be fun," she pleaded.
"Where are we going to put?"
"DUH!!"
"Buffy, I really don't think-" Angel stopped when he saw Buffy's bottom lip jet out and start to quiver. "Oh, come on, don't do that."
"I've wanted one since I was a little girl," she sobbed into her hands, "but my parents were allergic."
"Shh, it's alright." Angel pulled her into his arms and held her tight as she sobbed in his chest.
"It's the only thing I've ever wanted."
"Alright, alright. We'll get a puppy," Angel relented.
"Oh, thank you. Thank you." Her face broke into a huge smile and she caught her mouth in a kiss. "You're the best." She grabbed his hand and pulled him out the door.

"I suppose you already have the one you want picked out?" Angel guessed as Buffy lead him to the back of the pet store.
"Yep." She glanced over her should at him. "Willow and I were in here earlier, I've got everything from the dog food to the basket to the toys picked out."
Angel groaned. "How much is this going to cost me?"
"I never added," Buffy admitted. "Doesn't matter though. You have enough money hidden away to last a couple lifetimes."
Buffy stopped in front of a pen with a litter of six tiny Maltese puppies in it. "Here we are." She leaned down a picked up a tiny white one that was hidden in the corner, sleeping. "Isn't she adorable?" Buffy handed the puppy to Angel.
The pup opened her eyes and yawned. She looked up at Angel, then began licking his hands. "Very," he agreed.
Buffy smiled. "I think she likes you."
"Have you thought of a name?" Angel asked.
"Not yet." Buffy grabbed Angel's arm. "Come on. Let's get the puppy stuff."

Buffy walked into the apartment carrying the puppy. "This is your new home," she told it as she sat her on the ground and watched her as she sniffed around the apartment.
Angel came in a few minutes later loaded down with food, a basket, carrier, toys and other dog things. "You know, it wouldn't have killed you to help carry stuff," he grumbled as he sat the stuff in the chair next to the couch.
"I did. I carried the dog." At his look, she walked over to him and wrapped her arms around his waist. "I'm sorry." She pouted and kissed him gently.
"It's okay. You'll just have to make it up to me later." He pulled her closer.
"Ooh, I'm likin' that plan."
They were just about to kiss again when they heard a tiny whimper behind them. They turned and saw the puppy sitting on the floor, staring up at them.
"Oh, poor baby." Buffy scooped her up and cradled her in her arms. She walked over to the couch and sat down. Angel did the same and she leaned her head against his shoulder. "She needs a name," Buffy said thoughtfully.
"Hmm.. How about..." Angel paused.
"How 'bout what?"
"I can't think of anything."
"Oh, I know," Buffy said excitedly. "We'll call her Jasmine."
"Jasmine? For a dog?" Angel asked.
Buffy shrugged. "I like it."
"Alright, then, we'll call her Jasmine."

Angel groaned and stuck his head underneath his pillow. "Maybe we should have named her Whiner instead," he grumbled to Buffy.
Jasmine had been crying and scratching at their bedroom door for the last ten minutes straight.
"Look at it this way. It's good practice for when we have kids," Buffy said as she crawled over top Angel.
"Where are you going?"
"To let her in." She opened the door and scooped up the puppy. Setting her on the bed, she crawled back over Angel and under the covers. "All she wants is some company. It's her first night here and she's lonely."
Angel watched as the puppy curled up between them and went to sleep. "Please don't tell me we have to share our bed with her every night."
"Nah. If we put her basket next to the bed she should sleep in."
"Good," Angel yawned. "I'm going back to sleep. Good night."
"Good night." Buffy smiled and snuggled as close to Angel as she could get without disturbing the puppy.
