Author Note: Okay this is my entry for Buffy Survivor. I’ve never really been one for challenges and stuff like that but I love Akay and Doc and I was kinda suckered into this… I think. Anyway love it, hate it… whatever. Just be kind if you’re going to flame.
I should be ready for a fall…
A gentle breeze blew through the room causing the gossamer like curtains to whip and dance against the French doors which led out to a balcony over looking the gardens. Sighing softly she reclined back even further on the chaise lounger fatigue and weariness clouding her vision as she let the mid-day sun shine into the room and splash across her skin. She was now six months pregnant and really starting to show, her hands slowly slipped down over her swelled tummy as she began to rub her stomach gently.
The soft click of the door and it brushing against the plush carpet as it opened pulled her from her daydreams as she lazily turned over to greet her visitor. A soft smile formed on her lips when she caught sight of her husband as he carefully made his way into the room. She lazily lifted her arms beckoning him to come closer. A soft contented sigh escaped her lips as she was pulled into his lap and a soft kiss touched her hair.
“Where have you been? When I woke up you weren’t here” she said softly
“Well first I had some errands to run and as it turns out I gave Wesley the car for the day so I had to find… other means of transportation” he said with a grimace as he gently picked her up and began to walk out onto the balcony.
“Other means?” a perfectly sculpted brow rose up in askance as a smirk curled on her lips
“Okay you know the old Raleigh we have in storage; ‘The Chopper’ it’s blue with that… reflector in the back… oh c’mon don’t tell me you don’t know what I’m talking about” he said with a heavy sigh
“Of course I know what you’re talking about, but what does that rusty old thing have to do with anything?” she asked curiously while continuing to lazily play with his fingers that were folded in her lap.
“I sorta… had ride that to the store” he mumbled
Pausing she looked up at him her eyes widened in shock. She couldn’t believe that he’d pulled that piece of junk out and actually ride it to the farmer’s market just outside of Los Angeles.
“Oh baby” she crooned and pressed a chaste kiss to his lips
Humming with pleasure at the attention Angel pursed his lips again gaining an extra quick kiss before pulling away with a smile. He looked up at the woman who was now his wife and he realized that at that moment everything was perfect, that this was the way things were suppose to be.
“Well did you at least get everything that we need for tonight. I’ve had to spend most of today inside and I want to at least be able to enjoy the fireworks tonight. It’s the fourth of July… I’m not missing them” she said pulling him from his happy musings
“I got everything… except the cheese” he said cringing already waiting for the outburst and sure enough within a matter off moments it came.
“What do you mean there’s no cheese; Angel you can’t have cheeseburgers without cheese its just not physically possible. And oh god what about the people that wanted to just have cold sandwiches, now they’ll be cheeseless!” she shrieked
The former vampire’s eyes fluttered shut as he took a breath as he prepared to deal with his just this side of hysterical wife. Holidays just seemed to evoke this type of emotional intensity within her as he remembered the way she tried to put together a Thanksgiving dinner for seven single handedly.
“Baby it’ll be fine…” he tried to sooth her
Tears glittered in her eyes threatening to spill over and down her cheeks and he knew that if he didn’t do something fast he’d have some serious waterworks to contend with.
“Okay, okay I’m sure Wes is back by now… I’ll get the car and then I’ll the cheese…” he said looking up at her hoping that this would please her. He wasn’t disappointed his reward was a bright smile and soft kiss before he was ushered out of the room the same way he came.
Five hours later Wesley and Gunn were fighting over who should man the grill while Cordelia provided a running commentary leaving the former vampire and slayer to their own devices. Laid out on a blanket in the center of the garden the two lovers curled up against one another as beautiful hues of blue, green and purple splashed up against the night sky.
“See everything worked out even though I had to ride that god awful bicycle, I got you your cheese and now you have your fireworks… all in all I’d have to say it was pretty decent Fourth of July” Angel murmured softly
The response he received was a soft snore coming from the little thing sprawled out across his chest. Chuckling softly to himself he pressed a soft kiss to her hair before turning his attention to the brightly lit sky and thanking The Powers for the gifts they’d bestowed upon him.

Mahogany eyes flew open as the vampire struggled into a sitting position. Sighing heavily realizing again that it was nothing more than a dream he slowly crawled out from under the bed covers and over to the same balcony that haunted his dreams. Uncaring of his nudity he leaned up against the stone railing and not for once wondered why he The Powers loved to torture him so.

Miles away moss colored eyes stared sightlessly out into the night as hot spicy tears slipped down her cheeks. The dreams that haunted her now were nothing more than a product of the day that never was… sighing softly to herself she wondered if she could ever forgive the vampire for giving up their family the way he did…
… For giving up their son the way he did …
I should be ready for a fall…
