and it's coming after Buffy and Angel next.

If you have any of my other fics, take it, but please remind me where it's at.
Feedback:
Hell yes. After all the resistance
I put up so I wouldn't have to write this, I better get feedback! : )
I'm interested in feedback of any kind,
good or bad as long as you don't cuss me out about my ideas or anything. Thanks!
Rating:
Once more, PG—14, I think.
Author's
Note: Enough people wrote to me, begging for a sequel… (Did I mention I love
all the feedback you people sent me?) so here it is. I
know I leave some stuff unexplained here. I'm thinking about doing another one
in this world. Lemme know what you think. :o)
Author's Note 2: Please accept my apologies. I just learned that Quentin Travers
is an old geezer type person a little while ago, after I'd written DH. I've been
picturing him as another S3 Wesley, so if he doesn't act like an old guy, it's
'coz he's more like Wesley's age in these two fics. My apologies. Also, I typed
the last parts of this up very quickly. I"m leaving town for a month and I
want to finish this. Sorry for any mistakes!
Couple: B/A is, of course, the main pairing. Also has W/O, X/C, Giles/Jenny, and
S/Dru.
Dedication: To Pixie and Sara Lee for being so sweet. This is for you guys. Enjoy! :o
Buffy yawned as she wandered down the hall back to the bedroom where her baby was sleeping. yes"> Eight months pregnant with their second child, she was exhausted but unable to sleep.
She had so much energy. It came from not patrolling, not really training, nothing. Angel and Giles were being bossy and they'd decided not to let her do any of that.
Secretly, she'd already decided that, but it had irked her at the time.
Of course, then Angel had made it up to her…
She smiled a little, remembering that night. It had been one of their best.
She pushed Katherine's bedroom door open, and went over to the crib where her first child was sleeping. She was perfect. yes"> Perhaps her opinion was a little biased, but it wasn't like the baby didn't deserve it. She was special, beyond her cuteness. She was the first child to be borne of a Vampire Slayer and a Demon Hunter.
The only child in the history of… well, everything.
Buffy smiled again as she looked down at her child.
Then she noticed something on the baby's night clothes.
She frowned, and touched the spot.
Cold.
Wet.
Sticky.
Blood.
Panic rose in her and she picked Kathy up out of the crib, checking to see if her baby was breathing, or what…
More blood fell from the clothes, and no breath came from the body.
"Kathy!" she screamed, cradling the child. She began giving her baby rescue breathes, like she'd been taught by Giles when she'd first come to Sunnydale. And she tried so hard to save the baby, but still no breath came from her lifeless body. "Kathy!" she screamed again, tears falling down her face.
And then a horrible pain went through her, and she fell to her knees, still clutching Kathy to her, but also clutching her suddenly flat stomach.
And she knew that her second child was gone as well.

Buffy woke up screaming, with Angel cradling her. "Shh, shh," he said worriedly as she pulled away from him, sitting up. She stared at him wide eyed for a moment, then jumped out of bed and ran to the next-door room where Kathy slept.
Her precious daughter was asleep, but Buffy lifted her up, feeling for a pulse and breath.
Kathy began crying, waving one of her tiny fists in the air, angered by the interruption of her sleep.
yes"> "What's wrong?" Angel questioned, going over to his wife of a few months, and embracing her and their child.
She began rocking Kathy back and forth, cradling her in her arms as close to her as she could without hurting the baby. "Oh god, Angel, it was horrible. I went in to check on her, and she was dead, and there was blood on her, and then our other baby…"
"Shh," he murmured, smoothing her hair. yes"> "It was just a dream, baby, it was just a dream."
She closed her eyes, leaning against him. Too bad she didn't believe him.
*-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-*
"Are you sure it was a prophecy dream?"
Giles's question startled Buffy out of her nightmarish thoughts, and the Slayer looked at him. yes"> "What? Oh, yeah. Yeah. It was way to real for it to be anything else."
"Are you sure it wasn't just a night mare? I've read that pregnant women regularly dream of losing their child, and almost all mothers dream of something happening to their children." Jenny nodded a little, agreeing with Giles.
Buffy looked over to Angel, who was holding Kathy and listening to them from the corner of the library. He was also watching for people heading over in their direction. "Fat and pregnant as I may be, I still am the Slayer. I do get this kind of dream with a bad regularity."
Giles looked to Angel, curious to his thought. He was a Hunter. He got dreams as well, not as often, but enough to be able to decipher them from the rest. yes"> Plus there was the fact that he'd been with Buffy when she woke up.
Angel sighed. yes"> "I don't know."
Buffy scowled at him. "You're my husband, you're supposed to support me."
"Well, as much as I hate to be on Buffy's bad side, how do you know it wasn't your chimichangas talking back to you?" Xander questioned. They'd gone out to eat at a local Mexican place last night.
But no one was thinking about that, and they figured he was being juvenile. Everyone stared at him. Willow sighed. "Xander, even I can say breasts without blushing by now."
He looked at her, confused. "What? I'm talking about the food she ate before she went to bed. Hello? Sr. Rufus's Walking Taco Stand? Ring a bell with anyone?"
Now Willow blushed, bright red.
Buffy sighed. yes">
And Faith, Spike, and Drusilla entered. "Angel," Drusilla said, beaming. "You must see the class room."
"Looks bloody good," Spike agreed.
Buffy sighed and stormed over to the door. "I'll go look. Apparently, my opinion about my own dreams doesn't count in here. Maybe I can go there and my opinion'll count."
Spike glanced at Angel, amused. "What's that all about?"
"Don't ask," Angel muttered, hurrying to follow his wife.
*-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-*
"All I'm saying is that I know the difference between a Slayer dream and… bad chimichangas,"
"And I'm not saying you don't," Angel said, shifting Kathy and sighing as he unlocked the classroom door. "But Giles is right. You had a dream like this with Kathy. Nothing ever happened with it."
"No, but-oh my god." Buffy's eyes widened with horror and she stumbled back away from the classroom, the urge to retch rising quickly in her.
yes"> "What?" Angel hurried to her side, but she gestured towards the room, covering her mouth and closing her eyes as she sank to the floor outside the door.
Wary, Angel went to the door and flipped on the lights. He didn't need them on to see what the problem was.
Three bodies, a man, a woman, and a baby were on the ground, covered with blood.
The woman had been very pregnant.
*-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-*
It was well after midnight by the time the police had come and gone and the gang had regathered in the library. The mood was somber and unhappy. The police had questioned all of them, and Faith, Drusilla, and Spike were all considered suspects. Their only saving grace would be the security tapes from the hallway just outside of the classroom. They would show that the threesome left and someone else must have come in.
Beyond that, the group was a little spooked. The woman who'd been found in there had been the same age as Buffy. She'd been petite, had blond hair, and was six months pregnant. The man had been tall, dark haired, and he'd had a tattoo on his back. Like Angel's. And the worst part had been the baby. She'd been a dark haired darling like Kathy was.
No one thought it was a coincidence.
The group, minus Buffy and Willow, was gathered around the table. Angel, holding Kathy, sat at one end, and Giles and Jenny sat at the other. Kathy was gurgling unhappily. She wanted her mother. Angel shifted his daughter in his arms, trying to get her to settle down. "Come on, Kath," he muttered when she started crying.
Giles looked at them and sighed. It was very late, and they needed to research what everything might mean.
Angel stood up and began pacing back and forth, rocking Kathy. "I can't think of any demons that would do this kind of thing…"
"Sadly, neither can I."
Everyone turned to see an elderly man standing in the doorway. Angel scowled, recognizing him. "What are you doing here?"
nbsp;
"Came to see my great granddaughter." He answered, and crossed the room over to Angel and Kathy.
Angel sighed and looked at the rest of the group. "This is my grandfather, William O'Connor." He handed his daughter over to her great grandfather, and Kathy immediately began whimpering. She did that when anyone but her daddy was holding her.
nbsp;"The Council guy?" Xander questioned.
"That would be me." William answered, smiling at the baby, then nodding his head at the rest of the group. "Where's your wife?" he asked Angel.
nbsp;"She's at home." Angel answered, frowning. "You still haven't explained why you're here."
William nodded. yes"> "I know I haven't. And I need to talk to you privately to explain."
Angel scowled.

Buffy and Willow sat on the couch inside the front room of the O'Connor Mansion, each lost in thoughts surrounding the people they'd found that night. Dead.
Both were jolted out of it when the doors opened and Angel came in with Kathy, and William behind him.
Buffy stood up as Angel came over to her, embracing her for a moment. "You all right?" he questioned, seeing her face. She looked tense and tired and worried.
She smiled up at him, trying to make it look like she was fine. As always, she didn't fool him. But for the moment, he let it pass. "I don't know if you remember, but this is my grandfather, William."
Buffy nodded politely. "Hi,"
William bowed a little. "Nice to see you well and healthy," he said. The last time and first time they'd seen each other had been when Buffy'd been kidnapped by the council. She hadn't looked so well then.
Buffy smiled uncomfortably, looking at Angel for an explanation. He pulled her to him again, murmuring into her ear. She nodded and he faced his grandfather. "There's a spare room upstairs if you want to stay here," he offered.
William smiled, pleased. "Excellent."
"I'll take you," Willow offered, glancing at Buffy and Angel. "Then I've got to get going."
William nodded. "That would be excellent."
"We can talk in the morning," Angel said quietly, and William and Willow made their way down the hall.
Buffy looked at Angel again. "What's going on?"
Angel began to make his way down the hall towards his daughter's room. Buffy followed him, and watched in silence as he laid the girl down in her crib. When he turned to face her, she saw the unusual amount of worry on his face. "What is it?" she questioned, going over to him.
He pulled her closer to him, studying her face for a moment. "William's not here for fun, Buffy."
The Slayer in her kicked in and she frowned. "What's he here for then?"
Angel sighed and released her, going over to the other door attached to the room. He opened it and went into the room between Kathy's bedroom and his and Buffy's.
He sat on his big leather chair in the corner, and Buffy joined him, sitting on the smaller and more feminine one that she'd picked out when they'd decorated the house. They'd decided to put chairs in there simply because they enjoyed having a place to talk that was just for them. The bedroom was nice, but it was too distracting. It had resulted in Buffy's second pregnancy, after all.
"The Council got word of a special opps team of vampires and demons. Like the Order of Taraka, only even more powerful. They're planning on paying a visit to the Hellmouth soon."
Buffy scowled. "How soon?"
He lowered his gaze to her stomach for a moment, then back to her face. "Before you have this baby. Before you can fight again."
She started to comment, but his look stopped her. There was something else, she could tell. yes"> Something he didn't want to tell her. yes"> "What else?"
He looked away, towards his daughter's room. "They want Kathy."
Her mouth opened, but she couldn't make words come out. yes"> "What?"
He looked at her again. "Kathy's going to be a Slayer."
"She doesn't have the birthmark."
"It was magically removed."
"She can't be a Slayer, Angel,"
He stood up quickly, going over to her chair and crouching down by her. He took both her hands, looking into her eyes. "She is, Buffy. And somehow it got leaked to someone who shouldn't have known."
"She might not be called then," Buffy insisted, standing up. She crossed the room, going over to Kathy's door. Her daughter was still in there, sleeping.
Angel stood up, but didn't follow her. "She's special, Buffy. She's not any normal Slayer. She will be called, even if that means the death of one of the other Slayers whose alive."
She looked at him again, a horrible feeling growing in her. "It would be Faith." After all, Buffy'd been replaced when she'd died by the Master.
He didn't look away from her. "That's not all."
"Of course not." Buffy closed her eyes, leaning against the doorframe. yes"> "What else?"
"She's going to be the strongest Slayer in the history of Slayers. Because of what we are, she gets our strength. Beyond that, she'll have extra strength because of when she was born. Apparently, January eighth of 2000 was a prophesized date. Something happened to make it so she'd get that extra." He sighed. "If she were to be influenced in the wrong way… she could mean the end of the world." He met his wife's gaze. "She's so powerful that all she has to do is want it bad enough."
"What's the Council think we should do?" Buffy asked, squeezing her eyes shut for a moment. yes"> When she opened them, she looked in the room her daughter was in.
"They want us to give her to them, so they can protect her."
Buffy looked at him, her mouth opened to protest.
"I told William no." Angel assured her quickly. She relaxed, a little. He finally crossed the room, and took her hands again. She let him, and rested her forehead against his chest. "Buffy, there's going to be a lot happening. And soon."
Buffy nodded, but didn't say anything. He released her hand and raised his hand to push her hair back out of her face. "This group that's coming, they'll be here in a week or so. So will the Council."
"Why's the Council coming?" Buffy asked, frowning.
"They're sending their special opps group, and a few people who've studied up on this group." Angel answered quietly. "They also hope to convince you to leave town with Kathy and them."
"No." Buffy said immediately. "I wouldn't go with them, it's not me. And especially not after what they did last time I saw them."
"That's what I told William," Angel agreed. He hesitated. This was the part she wouldn't like. "I don't think you should leave with them. I think you should leave though."
"What? No! How can you even suggest that!" Buffy pushed him back, away from her. "I'm not leaving." How could he say that to her?
"You'd rather stay here and fight? I understand that. yes"> But what about Kathy? If she's here, it's going to be that much harder for her to be safe. It's not exactly a secret, who our friends are, where we live, anything. She can't stay here, and she can't be without one of us." yes"> No one would protect her more than her parents.
"Then why wouldn't you come?" she demanded next. An overwhelming sensation of helplessness was building up in her, and she hated that feeling more than anything else in the world.
"Who's gonna watch the Hellmouth, Buffy? Faith's not strong enough to do it alone. And despite what everyone else would like to think, they aren't strong enough to do it either. It's going to be hard enough doing this as it is. But it would be that much harder if Kathy was here to protect, and you too."
"I don't need protection."
He looked down at her extended stomach. "You know I'd agree with you normally, Buffy, but you're six months pregnant. You can't fight like you could if you weren't."
"You can't make me run away!"
"It's not running away, Buffy," he said, angry.
"Then what do you call it?" she demanded. "I can't just go away and leave you here."
"So what do we do about Kathy then?" he questioned. "Just have her stay here, in the middle of this?"
She stared at him, hurt and angry, and confused… She pushed past him, going out of Kathy's room and into the hallway. Angel followed her out and down the hall towards the front door. She grabbed her jacket, pulling it on. "Where are you going?" he asked quietly.
She barely glanced at him. "Out."
He sighed. "Be careful," he said after another moment.
She just walked out.
******
He was right. He was right, and it wasn't fair. Buffy came to this conclusion after walking around for two hours in the darkness of Sunnydale.
She was utterly miserable. She didn't want to leave Sunnydale, and Angel, for any amount of time. Not when she knew there was something big going on. Not when Angel could be at such great risk. And her friends, of course, but Angel…
She sighed. She didn't want to leave him.
And to take Kathy away from him too? The thought was horrible. She didn't want to think of it, didn't want to go. But she had to. If nothing else, just to protect Kathy.
Although, as pregnant as she was, she wouldn't be a very good protector.
That thought brought a shiver through her.
But she turned and began making her way back to the mansion.
She had to talk to Angel.
*-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-*
Angel was in Kathy's room when she got back. She stood in the doorway for a long time, watching him. He was just standing there, leaning against the crib and studying their daughter.
She knew he heard her when she came in. But she stayed silent and joined him. He finally looked at her. "You okay?"
She shrugged, not looking up from her baby. Her little girl. "I thought about it." she said quietly.
He nodded. "So did I."
She looked up from her daughter, looking up at the sky. yes"> They'd had a sky light installed above the crib so she could always have something to look at during the nights yes"> she'd sleep there. They'd also made it something they could close easily if there was ever a problem.
It would be closed soon. If there were demons coming for Kathy, there was no way that they could have a window above her bed.
Angel gently touched her arm, and Buffy closed her eyes and rested her head against Angel's chest. "I don't want to leave you."
He stayed silent, just holding her. It was too much to process in one night. They needed time, to figure out what to do. How to do it.
"I don't want to let you go," he admitted, his voice just as quiet.
They spent the rest of the morning talking.
*-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-*
That afternoon, at one o'clock, the Scooby Gang gathered at the mansion.
William was there too, and he watched the scene with interest as the group settled down in their places around the room.
The blond Slayer, the Hunter, and Rupert were the only ones standing. Rupert was standing before a table, shuffling through a stack of books. It was clear that he was uncomfortable being around a higher member of the council, but he said nothing about it.
Angel stood in front of the fireplace, staring into the flickering flames.
Buffy stood on the other side, staring off into space.
Both automatically turned when they heard Kathy start crying.
Her Aunt Willow and Uncle Xander were already soothing her, with Xander making monkey faces at the girl as Willow rocked her.
Buffy and Angel met each other's gazes, and then in unison they looked to Giles, who was in charge of starting the unofficial meeting.
The Watcher felt their gazes and looked up. After a moment, he realized what they wanted and cleared his throat. "Buffy, Angel. I believe you have some news?" Giles looked over to William again, then looked away quickly.
The older man leaned forward in his chair but said nothing.
Angel looked over to his daughter for a moment, then to the rest of the group again. "Kathy's going to be a Slayer."
The room went completely silent for a long moment. Faith stood up, moving around to stand behind the couch. "Cool. Takin' after her parents."
Buffy flinched and looked to her sister Slayer. "It's not that easy," she said quietly. "You know the rule. One Slayer dies, another one's called. It only works that way."
She couldn't make herself finish, so Angel did for her. He looked at the younger Slayer. "Once she's of age, she will be the Slayer. No matter who's before her, or who has to die."
Faith's smirk had faded already, and now she struggled to hide her thoughts. Fright. Anger. Confusion.
"There's more," Angel said quietly. Everyone looked at him again. "She's going to be powerful. So powerful that it's been prophesized."
Giles took off his glasses, and Jenny went to his side, closing her eyes as she leaned against the end table Giles was using.
Angel continued. "There are demons coming after her. A lot of them. Too many to be able to keep Kathy safe."
"I'm taking Kathy away for a while," Buffy said softly, continuing before they could comment.
"Where?" Faith asked.
Buffy shook her head. "No one can know."
"So only Angel's gonna be able to talk to you?" Willow questioned, hurt. "Buffy, that's not right, and you know it."
Angel looked at her. "No. Not me either."
Once more, everyone exchanged stunned looks. Willow finally looked up, her face unusually pale. "This is serious, isn't it?"
"As serious as it gets." Buffy confirmed.
"I'm going with you." Willow said, rising.
"It's not an option." Buffy said immediately.
"You don't have a choice." Willow said firmly. Oz looked at her, then looked down again. "Resolve face, Buffy. You can't protect yourself, Kathy, and the baby all at once. I can help. You know I can do magic and stuff to help out. And Jenny and Drusilla know stuff to help Giles here." Her gaze rested on Buffy, even as she took Oz's hand. "I can help. And I'm going to."
Silently, Jenny nodded. "We can help," she agreed. "And Dru's good with magic too. I've been studying long enough that I'm good enough."
Spike nodded. "She's right. So's red. There's no bloody way Blondie should be off on her own like this."
Xander sighed. "Gotta agree with Peroxide Boy. But won't it be a little conspicuous? I mean, two girls traveling together..."
Buffy raised an eyebrow, and looked pointedly at her stomach. "Not when I'm this fat."
"Got a point there," Xander sighed.
"Does that mean I win?" Willow questioned.
Buffy still hesitated, and Angel slipped his arms around her waist.
William finally spoke. "Unwanted advice from your grandfather-in-law says yes, she should go. Practically, you need the protection that she can give with the magic. Faith and Angel can't leave the Hellmouth unguarded, and this young lady is your best bet, next to Rupert. And he must stay here, to guard the Hellmouth and all." He smirked faintly. "Not to mention, it would look bloody interesting given the age differences."
Angel scowled at him. Buffy and Giles just grimaced.
"Unwanted as the advice is," Angel said after another moment. "I think Willow should go too."
Buffy closed her eyes and leaned against Angel.
Oz looked down, then at his girlfriend. "I think so too."
Willow reached for his hand again, and fingers entwined, they exchanged a long look.
Buffy opened her eyes again, looking to Kathy, who was half asleep on Xander's lap. "We leave tonight then."
There was nothing more to be said.
*-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-*
The gang left Buffy and Angel alone with Kathy for the rest of the afternoon. William decided to go visit Giles for a while in order to give the young couple some time alone.
Kathy took her lap in Buffy and Angel's room, in the portable crib they'd temporarily placed at the end of the bed.
The couple just spent the day talking and holding each other.
It was one of the worst days of their collective lives, and each knew that worse would come.
At eleven thirty that night, the Scooby gang had regathered at the mansion. Buffy, Willow, and Kathy were preparing to leave, and were already in the car.
Sitting behind the wheel of the car she'd gotten from Angel for her birthday, Buffy exchanged a long kiss with her husband.
She pulled away first, knowing that if she didn't, she'd break down crying.
He didn't comment. He moved over to the backseat and studied his daughter for a moment. The girl was awake, and her dark eyes flickered over the scene, perhaps understanding that something was happening.
Angel gently pulled her blanket over her again. Then he moved up to his wife again. "Be careful, love." Their eyes met, and emotion ran freely between them.
"You too. Take care of everyone."
He nodded. "Of course."
Oz looked away from them and to his own girlfriend. "I love you," he murmured quietly.
"I love you too," Willow said softly.
Oz looked to Buffy. "Don't let her overdo it with the magic," he requested, trying not to sound as worried as he felt.
Buffy nodded. "I know."
Clearly not wanting to, Oz and Angel stepped back from the car.
The rest of the gang stayed back as well.
"Be careful, guys," Xander requested.
Buffy smiled halfheartedly, then looked at Angel for a moment.
Then she sat back and pulled out of the driveway.
And they were on their way.
*-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-*
That night, Faith and Angel went patrolling.
The first vampire Angel found, he beat up until Faith finally had pity for the demon and staked it for him.
Angel had just sighed and went to find another.
The pattern repeated for much of the night, until only a little before dawn.
Then Angel got the honor of going to school to teach a class.
*-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-* *-._.-*
Buffy yawned and curled up on the bed, watching Kathy with tired eyes.
Willow was out getting them some lunch, and after they ate they were planning on spending the afternoon catching up on sleep.
Buffy had driven for most of the night, having excess energy, but now her energy was gone. But she couldn't bring herself to sleep.
She rolled over on the bed, closing her eyes. She needed to sleep. For her own sake, and Kathy's.
She'd started to doze off when the door opened, and sunlight shone in on the bed and her back. She groaned and started to roll over again to scold her roomate. "Oh, Will, you couldn't have had worse tim-ah!" She jerked out of the way of a huge axe that landed where she had just been laying.
She rolled to the floor and backed up to the wall, her eyes searching the room for a weapon. The demon growled at her.
Then it saw Kathy, lying in the stroller they'd brought in for her to sleep in.
The demon changed directions and went for the child.
Buffy rolled to her feet and ran at the demon, knocking it to the floor. She scrambled to her feet before it could recover and grabbed Kathy, running towards the door as fast as she could. The demon grabbed her arm and whirled her around. Buffy lost her balance, and almost dropped Kathy. She fell on the bed, cradling her oldest child close to her and stared up at the demon as it raised it's axe again.
And then dropped it and fell over with a loud thump.
Behind it, Willow stood, a bag of McDonald's hamburgers and fries behind her on the the floor, and two medium pops spilled on the floor behind that.
The Wicca opened her eyes, concern clouding her gaze as she took in the situation. Buffy sat up, and began soothing Kathy, even as she looked at Willow. "Nice save," she said, her voice shaky. "What'd you do?"
Willow winced and gestured towards the demon. "Used it's other axe on him," she answered. She sat down on the bed next to Buffy. "You okay? Kathy okay?"
Buffy closed her eyes and nodded. "Yeah. Just really shook up."
"Maybe you should call Angel?"
Buffy nodded. "I think so."
