Awakenings

The cemetary was dank and musty as he moved through it.His black leather jacket billowing out from his legs in the wind he was creating with his stride. His bleach blond hair slicked back and unruly with his slight curls. His deep blue eyes so deep that when you looked into them you felt as though you were drowning right into his soul. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a cigarette, the glowing embers illuminating his face as he took a drag. His face so chisled with his featurs, the sharp bridge of his nose, the scar in his left eyebrow, his full and decidedly kissable mouth.

There was a sort of haze covering the ground as he walked through the maze of head stones. He carefully manuevered himself as to not step on anyone's graves. He reached his favorite tree and leaned. Drawing in a breath of smoke he thought of her. Her gold-blond hair spilling down her back, her shimmery green eyes with the yellow flecks in their irises. Her lithe young body silent with her slayer strength.

If my heart could beat, it would break my chest, he thought as he pictured her in his arms.

He loved her, he didnt know how but he did. He, the demon, the vampire was in love with a slayer. A slayer who killed his kind. The very same slayer who made his blood boil and anger him in ways unimaginable.

He changed his ways for her. He became one of the good guys. A fighter for the greater good. He had tried soo hard for 3 years and then finally it seemed they had become friends, commrades. Fighting as partners and not against each other. Both needing and depending on the other.

He fell in love with her in ways that he never felt for Dru.  She invaded his body and soul. He had done wrong to her and he knew it but he was always there. Always protecting. He tried over and over to get rid of the past and focus on the future. Trying to prove his worth and his love.

As he walked he sensed a touch of vanilla in the air and stopped.

"Dont you know never to sneak up on the Big Bad in the middle of a cemetary?" he asked turning around and facing her.

"Oh you know me, never was one for the rules," she replied a smile lurking on the edges of her mouth.

He smirked at her and cocked his head, his blue eyes looking her over leisurely.

Her heartbeat quickened as his eyes grazed her with his heated glance. She looked back at him, her insides tingling at the sight of him. The moonlight playing off the chisled features of his face. She had been walking around for hours. Trying to think, trying not to think. She was wildly attracted to Spike, she knew it was wrong.

Slayers aren't supposed to fall for vampires. She had taken that road and it had ended bad. Now she found herself about to take that road again.  What she felt for Spike was beyond what she ever felt for Angel. She didn't know when things changed, she only knew she had been feeling this way for a long time. She walked on and on trying to find him, afraid not to find him. Always winding up in front of his crypt.

He is so beautiful, she thought, a small sigh escaping her.

His eyes widened when he heard her sigh. He shook the thoughts that registered in his head.

Too good to be true, he thought.

"So Slayer, what brings you out here?" Spike asked her, breaking the tension that suddenly filled the air.

"Eh the usual. In every generation chosen stuff, demons............vampires," she replied her eyes meeting his.

"Right then" he said putting his cigarette out. "Where are they?"

"Well actually I was only looking for one. I was looking for you." He lifted his gaze to her face. Her green eyes locked onto his blue ones, shocking him with what he saw there.

"You found me Pet. What's up?"

"I.......Uh......"She trailed off as she saw a vampire appear out of nowhere.
Damn! I have all the luck! she thought.

"Spike! Behind you!" she screamed. He turned at her scream and dodged the punch of a newly awakened vampire.

"And again I ask don't you know not to sneak up on people in a cemetary?" Spike said punching the vampire in the face, cutting his fist on the other's fangs.

Buffy popped out and kicked the vampire. He got up and threw her against a headstone, she groaned and fell. With his demon face in play Spike punched the vampire again carefully avoiding his fangs. The vampire retaliated and grabbed Spike. Spike managed to get out of the vampire's hands and turned around to attack when the vampire exploded into a cloud of dust.

"Are you ok?" Buffy asked as she walked up to Spike. She motioned to his hand and grabbed it.

"Oh yeah Luv. Im fine," he replied, his senses reeling from Buffy's touch. She felt the surge go through him and into her. His hand reached out and touched her cheek.

"What about you Slayer? You ok?" he said touching the bruise that was just beginning to form on her face. Her eyes locked on his, they stood there staring at each other. Spike's hand carressed Buffy's face. She turned her face to his palm and closed her eyes.

An explosion of light surrounded them. Suddenly they were floating it seemed. The darkness of the cemetary and the night melted around them.

"What the Bloody Hell?" Spike got out before the light and darkness overtook them.

*~*

Spike was the first one to awaken. He stretched his legs out, realizing someone was sleeping on him. Blond hair covered his chest, small arms circled his waist. Brushing the hair out of the face he saw that it was Buffy asleep on him. Her small face cradled in his arm. He was overcome by the sight of her and just watched her sleep,  her chest moving with the up and down motion of her breathing.

He smiled and pressed a kiss to her forehead.  He put his head back on the pillow and started to wonder what happened. He knew they were in a bed. A giant four poster bed complete with with rose colored velvet bed curtains.

Trying not to disturb Buffy, Spike carefully shrugged her out of his embrace and got up. On either side of the bed were end tables with candles on them.

Taking out his zippo lighter he lit one of the candles and started to investigate the room. At the foot of the bed was a chaise lounge, covered in the same material as the curtains. In one corner was a beautiful ornate armoire. A dressing table sat next to the armoire covered in feminine articles, complete with a silver handled brush.

Against another wall  was a large desk with stacks of paper on it. Two windows shone the moonlight into the room, a large fireplace with a blazing fire in it was the last thing Spike saw. He walked over to the desk and started to search for some clues as to where they were when he heard Buffy stirring on the bed.

"Spike?"

"Yeah Pet Im right here."

"Where are we?" she asked getting up and going to him. He reached out his hand and pulled her to him. She gratefully welcomed the warmth of his embrace.

He saw a newspaper on the desk and grabbed it, quickly skimming its contents for some clues on where they were. What he saw on top didn't make sense. He had to look at it several times before he realized what it said.

"Buffy, look at this."

"What?"

"The top Luv."

Buffy glanced at the paper and saw what Spike had seen. It read The Sunnydale Press, October 11, 1864.

"Oh my god!"Buffy said turning her eyes to him.

"What the bloody hell happened to us?" he asked her.

"Your guess is as good as mine. The last thing I remember is being in the graveyard."

"So do I."

Buffy backed out of Spike's embrace and looked around the room.

"Spike, look at this," she said pointing to something on the wall.

Spike saw that it was a painting hanging on the wall. He brought the candle up close and was shocked at what he saw. Buffy grabbed onto his arm the shock also written all over her face. In the painting were two people very much in love. Two blond heads close together, one gold-blond one platnium. They were looking at one another with shining eyes.

"Oh my god Spike. Thats us," Buffy said incrediously, turning to look at him.

He didn't look at her, he was too busy looking at the couple in the picture. The man looked so much like him that Spike felt like he was looking into a mirror. Which was odd for a vampire. Buffy put her hand on his chest and said his name. When he finally tore his eyes away from the painting he returned her gaze. The look on her face was a mixture of perplextion and fear.

"Buffy? What is it?"

Under her hand was a pulse, a strong beating.

It couldn't be,she thought. Theres no way.

But the beating did not go away. It grew stronger.

Spike started to feel funny. He was hot and sweaty. He didn't know what was going on and he didn't like it.  He was breathing hard and felt as though he wasn't getting enough air. It was then that he felt the pulsing.

"Spike! Your heart is beating!" was all he heard before he passed out.
