Awakenings

Chapter 2

Buffy looked down at the prone figure out cold in her arms. She sat and watched the rise and fall of his chest indicating that he was breathing.

I still can’t believe it, she thought to herself as she smoothed Spike's hair.

Her hand strayed to his chest, feeling the beat of his heart. She looked around herself in disbelief.

"I don’t understand what happened," she said aloud still touching Spike's face. She tried to pick him up and put him on the bed and knew she still had her slayer strength.

Well if I am still strong then why isn’t Spike a vampire? She thought.

She kissed his forehead tenderly and went to the door. She turned back to look at Spike who was lying comfortably, and gingerly turned the doorknob. She knew he would be mad that she was investigating without him but he had too much of a shocker already finding out he is human.

"I'll be back," she whispered and left the room.

*~*

Spike awoke as the door closed. He clutched his hand to his heart and felt the beat and the rise and fall of his chest.

"I’m bloody human," he said confused.

He got up and went to the picture hanging on the wall. He stared at the couple. Lifting his hand he tenderly traced the outline of the woman who resembled Buffy. He put his thumb on her bottom lip and smiled. Thinking of Buffy he turned around in the room and saw she wasn't there. He went to the door and turned the knob scaring Buffy who was standing 5 feet from the door.

"Geez Spike," she whispered as he neared her.

"What? The big bad scare you?" he whispered, laughing at her.

"No.”

Buffy tried to calm her beating heart as she bit her bottom lip.

This didn't go unnoticed by Spike who had just been tracing her lip in the painting.

"You are not going anywhere without me. I want to know where the hell we are," Spike said low giving her a dirty look.

"Well you passed out. I was bored," she pouted.

Spike huffed.

"Lemme ask you something. When you had that bad dream that you were a vampire didn't you have a similar reaction to mine?" he asked.

"Well yeah but that’s cuz its my nightmare," she replied.

"Well me being human again isn't my cup of tea. I liked being a vampire, shadow of the night, the big bad. I’m Spike for Christ’s sake," he puffed his chest proudly.

"Oh god," Buffy rolled her eyes.

Spike smirked.

Together they started down the hallway that was lit with beautiful candelabras. Spike was inspecting the paintings lining the walls when he came to a mirror. Usually he didn't even look because he was reflection-less, but today he wasn't so sure. He snapped at Buffy and pointed to the mirror. She stood in front of it and saw herself. Spike went and stood next to her and she gasped. There in the mirror next to her was empty. Spike still didn't have a reflection.

"I don't get it," Buffy mused, touching Spike and seeing her hand grasping at air in the reflecting glass.

"Me neither. Maybe this means I’m not entirely human," he said looking at her.

"Yeah but why with the thump thump?" she asked pointing to his chest.

"Your guess is as good as mine Luv."

"Master William! Mistress Buffy!" a voice behind them said. Buffy and Spike jumped.

"Where have you two been? We have been worried sick about you two," a small woman with graying hair and wire rimmed glasses framing her deep brown eyes stated.

"Uh..." Buffy stammered.

"You two get lost again?" she asked smiling.

"Yeah we got lost," Spike said staring at the woman.

"Master William is almost sunrise. You know you can't go outside. You two were cutting it close this time."

Buffy and Spike looked to one another. The woman obviously knew Spike was a vampire.

"I’m always one to break the rules," he said smirking.

"Yes Master William. That’s something you remind us daily."

Buffy laughed and shook her head.

"Now shoo you two, off to bed. We have an important day ahead of us," the woman was saying as she pushed them toward the room they woke up in.

"But I..."Buffy started to say.

"Now I will wake you both later on," she said as she opened the door and went to the chest of drawers. She pulled out some bedclothes for the both of them and walked to the door.

Turning she smiled at the both of them and walked out shutting the door behind her.

Buffy and Spike stood rooted to the floor staring at the door.

"Well that was bloody interesting," Spike said breaking the silence.

"Tell me about it," Buffy replied walking over to the bed and picking up the nightgown that the woman put out for her.

"I’m going to get undressed," Buffy announced walking behind a little screen that she hadn't noticed before.

Spike smirked and went to where his clothes were laid out.

A little out of my taste but I guess they will do. Don't want to scare the slayer with my nudity. But I am not wearing the shirt, he thought as he put on the pajama pants and tossing his clothes and the nightshirt away.

He turned only to be greeted with the sight of Buffy. The nightgown she had on made her look like an angel. It was a sheer cream color that ended just above her knees with elbow length sleeves and a ribbon that tied underneath her breasts.

"Slayer…wow," Spike commented letting out a breath of air.

"Ugh," she said looking down at herself. "What I wouldn't give to have my pajama bottoms and tank top right now."

"Buffy. In all honesty you look gorgeous. If I had breath you would definitely take it away," he remarked looking her up and down.

Buffy blushed and lowered her eyes. She had been checking out Spike as well. His chest and stomach were unbelievable. He looked good enough to eat. Buffy felt a small thrill go through her body and she forced herself to think of anything other then eating certain foods off Spike's delectable body.

Spike watched her blush deepen and smiled.

"Well shall we bed then?" he asked.

"WHAT? Bed what? Oh you mean get into bed." her blush deepened some more.

Spike laughed.

"What’s so funny?" she demanded putting her hands on her hips.

"Nothing luv," he said wiping the mirth from his face.

They looked at each other for a moment more before turning towards the bed. They both stopped.

"Buffy, I can sleep on the floor," Spike stated.

"No Spike there’s more then enough room for the both of us in that great big bed. You stick to your side and I will stick to mine.”

"Sounds bloody fantastic to me."

Looking at one another they went to opposite sides of the bed and lay down.

"Goodnight Spike," Buffy said pulling the covers over her.

"Goodnight Buffy," Spike said putting his hands behind his head.

Spike leaned over and blew out the candle on his bedside table plunging their room into darkness.

"Spike?" Buffy whispered.

"Yeah."

"I'm glad you are here," she admitted with a yawn before falling asleep.

Spike smiled and closed his eyes.

*~*

The sun was setting when the serving woman awoke them.

"Master William, Mistress Buffy its time to wake up," she said touching both of their shoulders.

Spike opened his eyes and found himself staring into Buffy's green orbs. Somehow during their sleep they ended up in each other's arms. Buffy was laying on her side, her arm and leg hooked over him. Spike was on his back his arm underneath Buffy and his other arm holding her leg. Buffy blushed slightly and moved off of Spike.

"Rose is almost done preparing your food. Dinner will be served in one hour. Don't be late," The serving woman answered after she had laid out their clothes.

"Um…excuse me?" Buffy asked.

"Yes Mistress?"

"Call it a case of the major wonkies but what’s your name?"

"Ms. Silver but you call me Tammy," Tammy replied a look of amusement on her face. She smiled again at them before walking to the door and leaving the room.

"Do you think she thinks I’m nuts?" Buffy asked Spike as the door closed.

"Slayer, we all think you are a little off your rocker," he smirked.

"Ohhh lookie the vampire is funny today. We definitely must be in a different time," Buffy said as she walked behind the screen to get dressed.

Spike snorted and began to pull on his pants and shirt.

Buffy looked at her reflection in the mirror hidden behind the dressing screen. She sighed as she looked at herself. The dress she had on was a soft pastel lemon; the plunging neckline was square and edged in lace, allowing an eyeful of her golden breasts. The sleeves were ¾ inch ending with a little white ribbon and a slight lace ruffle. Buffy smiled and twirled in the soft skirts that fell down to her ankles.

She felt as though she was in a fairytale and secretly she loved it. She couldn’t wait to see Spike’s expression. She touched her golden locks and pinched her cheeks to give them a bit of color before stepping out from behind the screen.

Spike had his back to her and was trying to put his shoes on.

“I’ll never get these bloody things on,” Spike grumbled shoving the shoes away from him and standing up.

“Can’t I just wear my boots?” He asked her turning around. His eyes practically bugged out of his head as he looked the slayer up and down.

“Buffy…wow. You look amazing.”

Buffy face was awash with an expression identical to Spike’s as she took in his ensemble.

“You seem to be liking the word wow lately,” Buffy commented, trying to distract her eyes from looking him up and down again.

Damn he looks good! Her mind shouted at her.

Buffy blushed and looked in the mirror again.

“Remind me when we get home to get you a dress like that. So feminine, you should really dress like that more often,” Spike said coming up behind her and fixing a couple of buttons she had missed.

Buffy was grateful for his lack of reflection in the mirror even though she knew he was staring at her.

“I’m nervous.”

“Fancy that, the slayer is nervous,” Spike chuckled.

“Spike, I’m serious. We do not know where we are and what’s in this house. Do you think we will even make it home? Are we trapped here? My god, Dawn and my mother. Will I ever see them again?” Buffy stopped as her green eyes filled with tears.

“Buffy listen to me,” Spike said turning her around. “We will figure this out. We will go home. For the mean time let’s just do some research and investigate where we are. Apparently this is our house and they already know what we are. I don’t think we are in any immediate danger.”

“I know. I don’t think so either. It’s odd but I’m almost comforted by the fact that they know what we are.”

Spike nodded.

“We will get out of here pet, this I can promise you!” he swore, wiping a tear that fell down the golden skin of her cheek.

“Now come on, let’s go see what else this house has to offer,” he said putting his arm out.

Buffy smiled at him and linked her arm through his.

“Alright Spike but I swear there better be real food because I refuse to eat rabbit or deer,” Buffy grimaced.

Spike laughed and led her out into the hallway.
