In Dreams

Chapter 2

When she awoke she was crying and holding a pillow to her chest. She could still feel him on her, smell him all around.

"It was only a dream Buffy. Pull it together," she said aloud.

It was the same dream as always only this time it felt so real. She could still feel the tingling in her body, the burning touch of his lips on her. She held the pillow tighter, the fabric wet with her tears. Her slayer instincts alove and pulsing she could swear she felt him out there somewhere. Feeling her, feeling everything. She closed her eyes desperately trying to sense him, feel him, wondering why she was feeling this from beyond the grave. Not realizing, not knowing he had been brought back to life.

*~*

He woke up sweating, his body on fire with longing. His fingers touched his mouth, his lips still wet with their kiss. Her golden glow was all around him, casting him in a loving light. He could still hear her voice in his head, her lush lips, her voice full of lust as she called out his name.

I must be going crazy, he thought. The images and feelings were so vivid he felt as though he could reach out and touch them. Touch her. He could still smell the wildflowers and feel the breeze carressing his body.

"I forgot whats it like to be human," he laughed as he laid back down. He tried to go back to sleep but was haunted by the passion filled eyes of his Slayer.

*~*

"I've heard a rumor."

"Oh?"

"I heard that a certain slayer has her vampire back."

"Buffy brought Angelus back?"

"Not Angelus.Spike."

"Spike?" an astonished voice said.

"Yes master, Spike aka William the Bloody has been brought back."

"The only other vampire with a soul was brought back? What for? To kill her?" the voice laughed.

"Master, I don't think you are understanding. He isn't a vampire anymore. Hes human. An immortal human. Hes like her. With the skills of both a master vampire and an ultimate slayer."

"WHAT? Are you sure?"

"He is a re-newed threat especially with the new powers and that of the slayer backing him. How can we get rid of him? Hes human, we can't just kill him."

"Does the slayer even know that he is back?"

"That I am unsure of. I have some of my men working on it."

"I want you to report to me as soon as you have the information weneed. Oh and Master Finn? This is something you can not screw up. Spike, hostile 17 as you call him, has to be dealt with. Not pussy footed away like last time. Is that understood?"

"Yes Master," Riley said as he walked away.

Spike left Clem's apartment sometime after the sun came up. It was weird to be out in the sunlight and not be afraid it was going to kill him. It was weird to be all the things he was now, human, he still couldn't believe that.

He raised a hand to his chest and felt his beating heart.

I hope I get used to that soon, he thought to himself. He laughed as he realized her should really be dead now. Following the directions Clem gave him, Spike walked through the quiet town to Buffy's house. As he neared her home, he almost turned around.

What if she doesnt want to see me? What if I am not what she wants? What if she doesn't love me anymore?

All these thoughts running through his head, making him lose track of where he was going. Before he knew it, he was standing on her porch and was amazed at what her house looked like. It was exactly the same as her mother's house. The colors were different and there was a neatly groomed garden but it was exactly the same. The bright sunlight filtered in through the windows and as he looked he saw some movement.

He saw he move from the stairs to the dining room. She sat down at the table and started to read her paper. She had a rottweiler sitting next to her and was unconsciously petting his head as she stirred her coffee. He didn't know how long he stood there watching, but his eyes drank her up. He couldn't turn away, he just wanted to stand there staring at her forever. She got up from the table and walked into the kitchen. Spike tried to follow but he couldn't see that far into the house. Mustering up come courage, he went to the door and rang the doorbell.

Buffy had just finished washing her breakfast dishes when she heard the doorbell ring.  Zeus went to the door and waited patiently for her to open it.

Strange, she thought. Zeus usually freaks out when the doorbell rings.

Still puzzled over why Zeus was so calm, she opened the door.

"Hello Pet," was all she heard as she fainted.

*~*

Slowly Buffy opened her eyes, aware that she was laying on something soft.

Probably my couch, she thought as her eyes started to focus. What happened? Her head was hurting and she was weak. As her eyes adjusted she could make out a man sitting next to her.

His bleached blond hair was shining bright in the sunlight streaming through the windows. He wasn't looking at her, he had his head in his hands.

No, it can't be him. Your mind is playing tricks on you Buffy, she thought.

Slowly as if he was reading her mind, he turned towards her. His sapphire blue eyes locked onto her deep green ones.

"It is me Buffy," he said to her.

The voice, his voice that could melt her heart and turn her legs to jelly.

His voice that she had cried and prayed that she would hear again reverberated through her mind.

"It can't be you," she said to him. "You died."

"I know Pet," he said reaching out to brush a stray blond hair from her forehead. His skin was so warm and soft, the sun was bright and comforting creating a blanket around them.

"THE SUN! Spike the sun, you have to get away from the window," she cried, trying to move him away.

"Buffy? Buffy calm down. It's ok, I can be in the sunlight Pet. There is a reason I am not on fire or in ashes right now," he said pulling her back down to sit next to him.

"What? How? What?"

"All I know is I fought my way out of darkness and rubble two days ago. I wandered around Sunnydale for awhile, not knowing where I was until I saw the welcome sign. Funny how thats the only thing left standing. Considering I knocked it down twice," he said his voice trailing off. He looked at Buffy who was staring at him, her green eyes about to spill over with tears.

"Buffy, Luv please don't cry," he said as he pulled her to his chest. Her arms went unconsciously around him, holding onto him for dear life.

"Theres more," he said pulling back to look into her eyes.

"More?" Buffy whined.

"Yeah," he said dragging her hand to his chest, "Do you feel that?"

"Oh my god, your heart!"

"I'm human. Apparently I am being rewarded for helping you and going against my demon nature. I'm not just human either. I am like you and like my former vampire self. I have the power and strength of both a slayer and a vampire."

She stared at him with unblinking eyes so Spike went on talking.

"I was brought back to help you, to be with you. They made me human so we could be together. Love each other. They say all this was written before you or I were even created," he finished shrugging his shoulders.

She laughed unable to help herself.

"Is this some kind of joke? Am I being toyed with? Because I am not having any fun!" She screamed.

"Buffy. Listen, sit down," Spike said trying to calm her.

"Sit down? You want me to sit down? Do you know what its been like for me these  past 5 years? Well do you?" she asked him, hands on her hips.

She looked magnificent to him, just like her old self. The slayer, his slayer that he wanted to be with for all of time. The slayer that he tried to prove himself over and over again to.

He looked her up and down appreciatively. Her green eyes blazed with fury and pent up emotion. Her blond hair cascaded in waves around her flushed face. Her body tense and her chest heaving with her angry breath.

"You are right. I do not know what you have been going through," spike said cocking his head to the side. He sat back against her couch and crossed his long leg over her knee. He put his hand to his chin and just looked at her.

"You're damn right Im right!" she said stomping her foot and realizing at the same time she was acting just like her old self. Not mopey sad Buffy but, fiesty, hot headed slayer Buffy who didn't let anything bring her down. She started to laugh and continued on laughing even when she saw Spike's confused face.

Laughing herself silly she finally sat down and held out her hand. He took her hand and kissed it.

"I missed you,"  she said her eyes meeting his.

" I know, I missed you too," he said his fingers rubbing small circles into her palm.

"There is something I have been wanting to say to you since that day," she said to him, her voice cracking slightly.

"Buffy, you don't have to............."

"I meant what I said to you. I did love you. I do love you. I have been living in hell since that day. I have been living in hell without you," she finished as fresh tears began to spill over onto her cheeks.

"I know. I knew how you felt. It was desperate moment. I just didn't want you to think you had to say it in order to save me," he said putting his hand on her cheek and wiping away her tears.

"I love you," she whispered.

"I love you," he whispered back bringing his mouth to hers in a sweet kiss.

A kiss that mended hearts and reversed time. A kiss that made them forget who they were, where they were. Just that they were two people in love.

*~*

Looking into the windows hidden from the confines of some hedges, 2 pairs of eyes watched the loving couple.

"What can you see?" a voice crackled from the hand held walkie talkie.

"Master, the slayer and the vampire have reunited," one of the men replied.

"Damn it! Retreat boys until we have the proper back up and plan."

"Affirmative Master," the man said as he and his partner moved awayfrom the house.

*~*

A shrill ringing noise rang through the house interrupting the reunited lovers.

"Damn phone!" Buffy huffed. She reluctantly tore herself away from Spike to answer the phone.

"Look whoever this is I am not interested in subscribing to your newspaper or magazine or your cause.........." she started to say.

"Buffy Summers?" A familiar british voice asked.

"Um.............Yeah."

"Buffy, its me Giles."

"Oh my god Giles!! How the hell are you?" she asked turning to look at Spike.

"I'm good Buffy. I don't mean to be rude but this isn't a social call. I have some news that is of great importance to you!"

"Oh? And what's that? Apocolypse? Vampires taking over Sunnydale? Oh wait there is no Sunnydale."

"Buffy! This is important so shut up and listen will you?" Giles barked impatiently.

"Sheesh, what crawled up your ass died? Ok ok I'm listening," she said rolling her eyes at Spike and at the same time mouthing Giles is on the phone.

"Buffy we need your help. The hellmouth that has been pretty much dormant in New Jersey is about to be reopened. We need your help in closing it before the demons run free on the earth. I know Spike was brought back and we need you to bring him with you."

"What? How did you know that?"

"We were the ones who helped bring him back. His human form is what we need to help you fight this new evil."

"Giles I am not the only slayer anymore."

"Buffy, you are the ulitmate slayer. All the other girls have slayer abilities but they do not even come close to the power and strength that you have. And with Spike at your side, you two will be unstoppable. We need you. I need you!"

"When do we arrive?" Buffy asked.
