The airplane was crowded and noisy but they seemed oblivious to it. Spike and Buffy sat as close as one could get in coach seats.Their arms wrapped around each other, soft words spoken in each others ears. A kiss here and there. Anyone who saw them was jealous at the obvious love they shared. They had climbed on the plane the day after they recieved Giles's call. They had packed up Buffy's stuff with Buffy's promise that she would take Spike shopping and had Zeus stay with her neighbors.

"I cant believe we have to go to New Jersey," Buffy said running her hand through Spike's hair.

"Why is that pet?"

"There are much more interesting things we could be doing besides saving the world," she said giving him the eye.

"Is that right?" Spike replied smiling. "Ever heard of the mile high club?"

"Yes, and dont think I am not thinking of hauling your ass into the restroom right now and having my way with you," she laughed lightly smacking his arm.

"Right then," Spike said unclicking his seatbelt and trying to get up.

"Where are you going?"

"Why I'm going to the loo," he replied lifting his eyebrows in suggestion.

"Spike!" Buffy breathed when he suddenly leaned over, nuzzling her neck and breathing in her ear.

Buffy closed her eyes and relished in the feeling of Spike kissing and nuzzling her neck. She felt close to tears. Never even thinking that she would see Spike again, let alone have him soo close to her.

Spike sensed the sudden change in Buffy and stopped. He pulled back a little and gazed into her green eyes.

"What's wrong pet?" he asked his thumb trailing her cheek bone.

"I just....I didn't think I would ever see you again," she said fresh tears spilling down her cheeks.

"Buffy, luv, don't cry. Its been hard I know. But Im here," he said putting her hand on his chest.

"See all flesh and bone. Im right here at your side and Im not going anywhere."

She sniffled and buried her face in the crook of Spike's neck.

Spike sighed contently and toyed with her golden hair.

"Im not going anywhere," he whispered placing a kiss in her hair.

They must have fallen asleep clinging to each other on the plane because the next thing they knew the plane was landing at Newark Liberty airport.

When they walked out of the terminal they saw Giles standing stiffly holding a single red rose. He glanced at Buffy and smiled as she walked to him.

"Buffy," Giles said as he gathered her in a fatherly hug.

Buffy smiled and held onto him not realizing how much she had missed Giles.

Giles stepped back and handed Buffy the rose.

"Thank you Giles," she said sniffing the velvety petals.

"Watcher," Spike said holding his hand out. Giles looked at the hand and then at Spike's face.

"Spike," he said as he grapsed the hand and pulled Spike into a hug. To say Spike was shocked would have been an understatement. Even Buffy looked surprised at her watcher's reaction.

"Im so glad you both are here," Giles said blushing as he released Spike.
Spike smiled and clapped Giles on the back understanding his need for the hug.

The respect that Spike had wanted since he started to help Buffy finally registered in the watcher's eyes.

"I guess saving the world means a lot to you people," Spike joked smiling.
Giles smiled back at him and Buffy squeezed  his hand.

"So whats the dirt Giles?" Buffy asked.

"Lets get your luggage and get in the car before we discuss it," Giles said leading them to the baggage claim.

He watched Buffy and Spike walk ahead of him holding hands and Giles smiled.

As soon as they were settled in Giles' dark blue SUV the questions started.

"Giles whats going on? Is it bad? Badder then bad? Big bad?"Buffy asked from the back seat.

Spike smirked at Buffy's use of the 'big bad'. His eyes met hers in the mirror he had opened in order to see her. She smiled sweetly.

"As you know I have re-started the watcher's council here in the states since the destruction of the london branch. We all have been researching and re-researching the hellmouths and the lore surrounding them. It was when we were researching New Jersey that we came across a new prophecy. One that we hadn't seen or heard before," Giles said turning the car onto the Garden state parkway south.

"Where are we going?" Spike asked.

"To the Pine Barrens located in Southern New Jersey. That is the home of the hellmouth which is guarded by the Jersey Devil."

"The Jersey Devil?" Buffy questioned.

"Yes. Local legend and my research have come up with some interesting stories about him," Giles was saying as he drove through a toll booth.

"Oh bloody hell," Spike said rubbing his eyes.

"What?" Buffy asked touching his arm.

"The Jersey Devil is serious stuff. Has been haunting for decades. But whats weird is everyone has little stories about it but no one has actually seen it. I've heard stories myself in my un-life about it."

"Oh wow. So this is real demon stuff. Unknown and foreign. How much do you know about it Giles?" Buffy said re-adjusting herself in the backseat so she could continue touching Spike.

"Well legend has it that in the 1730's a woman was to give birth to her 13th child. She wasn't very happy about it. She had 12 other children and her husband didn't really help her so she was doing it all on her own. When she found out she was to have yet another child she yelled to the heavens,'Let this one be a devil!'

When she gave birth months later she was finally at peace with the fact she was to have another child. With the mid-wifes helping her she finally gave birth to a baby boy. He was a normal baby at first but then after its first wail it changed. It changed right before their eyes. It turned from a beautiful baby into a hideous creature that no one have ever seen.  The more in depth details I have back at the hotel.

Buffy and Spike this thing, this devil's actions will be apocolyptic. It must be stopped. Otherwise........."

"The world ends?" Buffy interrupted.

"In a way that it can never be changed back." Giles finished.
