Summery: Angel's POV of Willow's 18th Birthday (Number one in the Birthday Wishes Series)

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Since the very first time I saw her I knew I'd never get enough. I would watch her fall asleep, surf the net, and talk on the phone. In the years that I watched her I noticed that she wore a mask to her friends and to herself. She may look happy but inside she's the loneliest girl in the world.

Today was her 18th birthday and she's now sitting at home eating her nightly T.V. dinner, alone. She got off the phone with her mom and dad, they said nothing about what day it was. What they didn't know was they had missed yet another of their child's birthdays.

After she finished her dinner she went upstairs to change into her cute duck p.j.'s. She walked over to her desk where her yearly birthday cupcake from Xander, was. She turned around so I could not see her but when she did, she pulled out the small pink candle that sat in the middle, and stuck it in her mouth to suck the frosting off.

I looked in her glassy green eyes as the tears fell. She took the candle out of her mouth and dropped to the floor, the cupcake still in her hand. I couldn't stand it any longer. I couldn't just stay here and watch her cry herself asleep this time. I opened the door that lead to her room, I walked to her. Her small body sacking from her sobs. I sat down next to her. She saw me for the first time, and I pulled her into my arms.

"They didn't remember." She cried.

"Sssshhh, I know." I tried as much as I could to make her feel better, but I knew that I couldn't.

"They don't love me, Angel. Why don't they love me?" She sobbed

I couldn't answer the one question she needed answered asked. I looked at her beautiful tear soaked face and into the darkest green eyes in the world. I think she knew in a way that I didn't have an answer.

"Angel, hold me." She closed her eyes but the tears still fell.

As she fell asleep I whispered the words she needed to hear, "Happy birthday, Willow."

I was still holding her when I too closed my eyes. But my last thoughts weren't on how bad I felt for the her, but what a beautiful relationship that was forming.

The End
