And she takes another step
Slowly she opens the door
Check that he is sleeping
Pick up all the broken glass and furniture on the
floor
Been up half the night screaming now it's
Time to get away
Pack up the kids in the car
Another bruise to try and hide
Another alibi to write
Another ditch in the road
You keep moving
Another stop sign
You keep moving on
And the years go by so fast Wonder how I
Ever made it through
And there are children to think of
Baby's asleep in the backseat
Wonder how they'll ever make it
Through this living nightmare
But the mind is an amazing thing
Full of candy dreams and new toys
And another cheap hotel
Two beds and a coffee machine
But there are groceries to buy
And she knows she'll have to go home
Another ditch in the road
You keep moving
Another stop sign
You keep moving on
And the years go by so fast
Wonder how I ever made it through
Another bruise to try and hide
Another alibi to write
Another lonely highway in the black of night
But there's hope in the darkness
You know you're going to make it
Another ditch in the road
Keep moving
Another stop sign
You keep moving on
And the years go by so fast
Silent fortress built to last
Wonder how I ever made it

*~*~*~*~

*~ Taking a deep breath, she stepped inside the ruins
of what she'd once lovingly called home. Watering
green eyes surveyed the gleaming shards of broken
glass and charred wood. Holding her aching side,
Willow Rosenburg-Tyler nearly stumbled over to the
dead, mangled body of her husband.
*~ Her breath came out in a half-sob as she took in
the bloodied mess that had once been her best friend
and lover. He hadn't been the best of men, he'd had
his faults, and he'd loved her in his own twisted kind
of way. And she'd loved him... once upon a time. But
last night... Last night he'd gone too far,
threatening the twins, their children.
*~ "I had to do it, Alex," she whispered, ignoring the
glass and the blood as she knelt next to his body. "I
had to. You were going to hurt them, and I couldn't
let you. I didn't hate you for what you did to me, I
could even eventually forgive you for that, but not
for threatening my children. They're innocent, and I'm
going to keep them that way, no matter the cost." She
closed her eyes and called on the power and waved her
amazingly steady hand over the body, causing it to
burst into flames. She waved her hand over the rest of
the scene, burning all the evidence of the pentacle
and the beast she'd called up. A fire. A fire she and
the children had miraculously escaped by being over at
her best friend's home for the weekend. That was the
story she'd tell the police when they came calling.
*~ She slowly walked out of the house, stepping
through the flames as if they were nonexistent. She
got into the car and started the engine and left
without looking back.
