The Daughter Trilogy part 4/?

Recap:  But sleep overtook her body and she rested, pushing aside her
doubts.

The watcher in the hall was talking in hushed whispers to Dr.
Johansen.  "The vampire insists on seeing her, sir.  He won't rest or
eat until he makes sure she's all right."  Gwendolyn Post waited
patiently for his reply.

"Peace.  She's asleep, the hostile won't be able to tell her anything.
And he can't do anything to her, the chip is working fine."  The
doctor pause, weighing his choices.  "Bring him over, I don't want
anyone to suspect anything's wrong.  I have a feeling he could bring
unwanted attention our way."

"Are you sure that's wise?"  She asked.

"No.  But what other choice do we have?"  He asked, his eyes hard.
"I've been given orders to force them fall in love should they prove
difficult."

"Very well."  Though she disapproved, there was really nothing she
could do.  The orders came from someone else and giving him her
opinion would change nothing.

Angelus entered the room cautiously and saw her lying on the bed.  Her
face was still bright from her fever and he sat down on the bed, aware
that his every move was being monitored.  His hand softly stroked her
face, warming at the contact.  When he was satisfied that they hadn't
hurt her, though he wondered why, he lay on the bed beside her and
slept.

"That was an unexpected move for one of Angelus' reputation, wouldn't
you say, Ms Post?"  The doctor asked, taking notes on a palm pad.
"What is your theory behind this behavior?"

"Very."  Gwendolyn agreed with him, then consulted the Diaries she had
on Angelus.  "It is possible that this was caused because she is from
the Night World.  We have always avoided studying them because they
have been a great font of information and help to us."

"And yet, here you are, betraying them."  He observed calmly.  His
face was blank, though his mind was whirling at what he was saying to
her.

"Betrayal is such an ugly word when all we are doing is pursing
knowledge about them."  Her reply was quiet but firm, her face never
lost its expression.  "I don't think we should leave them alone for
too long.  His presence could jog her memory."  She continued after a
few moments.

He didn't bother to reply as he switched off the monitor and left the
room.  His footsteps took him to the conservatory when he wrote a full
report to send to Dr. Walsh.  She followed him a few minutes later,
changed her mind and headed for the library.

Willow woke up slowly, her mind refusing to leave the comfortable
darkness it was relaxing in.  As her eyes adjusted to the dim light,
she noticed that there was someone in the room with her.  He was
standing in the shadows, watching her.  She sat up and turned on the
lamp, blinking in the sudden brightness.  "Who are you?"

"You take away my bite and now you ask me who I am?"  His expression
was disbelieving as he moved closer to her, wondering why she was
shaking fearfully at his approach.  The girl knew he was harmless, she
had made him that way herself.  "We met in Sunnydale, remember?"

"I don't know what you're talking about.  I have no reason to go to
Sunnydale."  Her voice was soft, but the challenge was there.

He sat down on the edge of the bed.  "You went to met your father,
Rupert Giles."

"That name, I know it from somewhere."  She murmured, running names
through her memory.  "Of course!  He is one of the most successful
watchers in history.  But how can he be my father?"

Angelus slowly smiled, giving her one of his most wicked grin.  "If
you have to ask that, you're more innocent than I thought."  His voice
dropped low as he leaned towards her.  "And I like innocence,
especially when it's mixed with fire."  < Okay, now this could be fun.
He let his hands trail up her body, lightly.

She gasped, squirming under his touch.  Even through the comforter,
his touch was waking up each of her nerve endings.  Willow didn't know
what to say, so she remained quiet until a cough fit ripped through
her and caused her to move away from him.

Angelus shook his head, hiding his worry.  She was the only hope he
had of getting out of this nut house.  "You got sick just to spoil my
fun, didn't you?"  He teased as he rubbed her back in soothing
circles.  She glared at him weakly when her fit was over.  "Oh, don't
worry.  We'll pick up where we left off some other time, when I'm not
likely to get your germs."  He chuckled when she hit his chest with a
surprisingly strong punch.

The door opened at that moment and Angelus was hard pressed not to
growl at the intrusion.  "It's time for your medicine, Willow."

The vampire's body hid her sudden frown at those words.  She tried to
remember, it seemed like she'd had some before.  "Didn't I just take
some?"

Dr. Johansen poured some liquid into a cup, Angelus nearly gagged when
he got a whiff of it.  There was something off about it.  "That was
four hours ago, my dear, and this is your nighttime dose.  It will
help you get a good night's rest.  Your friend needs to say good-night
now."  His look at the vampire was pointed.

"I see."  Willow said, though the look on her face said that she
didn't.  "Good-night, friend."  There was a slight question in her
voice at the word.

Angelus smiled and quietly wished her a good-night.  "Night, little
Willow."  He got up and walked to the door, watching the doctor
through narrowed eyes.  He left, feeling that there was something he
was missing.  < What I wouldn't give for a computer right about now.

A week passed and Willow's strength slowly returned.  She started
working on developing her magical muscles and her tolerance to using
it.  When she felt strong enough, she started going longer without her
medicine and worked on getting up.

Angelus were around to help her out whenever they let him and
surveillance was kept to a minimum, though they were curious as to
what was happening to him because of his continued association with
her.  He had forgiven her for her actions that had led to their
capture.  She was an intriguing little lady, but filled with an
unnatural quiet.  He sensed that beneath that calm beat the heart of a
tiger just waiting to break free.

One day, while they were walking around the house, she noticed
something peculiar.  She paused and tilted her head to the side,
studying it.  "Angelus, what is that thing?"  His eyes followed her
hand to the thing on the wall.

It was long and narrow on one end and on the other, wide and circular
with a face painted on it.  The face had dark, fathomless eyes that
seemed to see right through them.  There was a long scar running from
the top, stopping just above the mouth which was curled in a
half-smirk.  The whole thing was traced with a thin gold band which
seemed to have no beginning or end.

His eyes narrowed as he walked closer, his hand reaching out to feel
it.  "I don't know.  But I've seen that thing before.  Isn't it
something that belongs to the Watcher's Council?"

"No.  They don't own anything like that."  Willow raised a hand to her
head, feeling woozy.  The thing seemed to reach out for her.  She
heard her mother's voice yelling at her to turn away, and she forced
her eyes away.  The sick feeling spread through her and she fell back,
calling his name.

Angelus caught her before she landed in an uncomfortable heap on the
ground.  He leapt for the stairs, carrying her up them.  She opened
her eyes slowly and found his.

"What happened?"  Silas asked, walking into the room.  He had heard
the hurried footsteps and came as quickly as he could.  If anything
happened to her, he'd never hear the end of it.

Her frightened eyes met Angelus', she shook her head.  "Don't tell
him, please."  She whispered, knowing that he would come up with
something good.  He grinned lasciviously, making her wonder if
trusting him was a good idea.  His hand found hers and squeezed
reassuringly.  "Thank you, Angelus."

"I wanted to look over the whole house and exhausted her with all my
questions."  He responded, going with an excuse that wouldn't get her
into trouble.  He stroked her face before he got up and moved away.

"You need to be more careful.  You aren't quite ready for mile hikes."
His voice was gently chiding, his gaze included them both.

"I'll see you tomorrow."  Angelus told her as he walked to the door.
He glanced back at the pair, taking in her pale, delicate face, not
surprised any more by the worry he felt for her.  Silas glanced at him
and met his eyes in the dim room.  In that split second, Angelus read
the man's worry for her and how much he hated doing this.  The vampire
gestured that they should talk, when he nodded, Angelus left the room.

"My car is this way."  The doctor walked away, not knowing if the
vampire would follow him.  They both climbed into the blue Honda and
drove out into the night.  "She'll be all right as long as she doesn't
try to escape."

"I can tell that you don't approve of this situation.  Why are you
doing this to her?"  Angelus asked, folding his arms across his chest.
The night air was cool and brisk, the stars in the sky were blinding
in their brightness.

The man pulled onto the freeway, not answering his question for a
while.  As they drove, the scenery flashed around them in swirling
colors.  Finally they arrived at the cut off for his destination.
They stopped in front of an old plantation.  "Come in."  Silas invited
as he opened the door.

Angelus followed him up the stairs, wondering what was going on.  The
doctor opened a door and the smell of medicine over powered them.
Lying on the bed was a woman hooked up to several machines, one of
which was a heart monitor.  Smelling her and studying her expression,
he knew that she was dead.

Silas smiled bitterly.  "Meet my wife, she is the reason I work for
the Initiative.  I cannot afford all of this equipment.  I work for
them, they provide these services for free."

The vampire didn't know what to say.  But dancing around an issue
wasn't in him.  "She's dead.  I can tell from the scent that lingers
on her."

The man sucked in his breath.  "They will help her wake up once they
find out what keeps you creatures alive."  He hissed.

He put his hands on the doctor's shoulders, forcing him to meet his
eyes.  "We are kept alive because another being, a demon if you
prefer, inhabits our body upon our death.  This gives us life.
There's no way they can help her.  She is * dead *."  Angelus
emphasized the last word, making the distraught man look at him.  "And
Willow will join her if you  don't do something about it."

Silas didn't answer, just turned and left the room.  Angelus sighed,
trailing after him.  They drove back to the safe house in silence and
he was once more locked in his room at the back of the house.  The
sound of his lock being picked caught his attention.  It opened slowly
and Willow poked her head around the door, asking him calmly.  "Well,
what happened?"

He sighed wearily, not surprised by her presence.  "Should we be
talking in here?"

"Because they're watching us?"  He nodded watching as she come closer
to him, pleased that she wasn't afraid anymore.  "It's okay, I blocked
their cameras."  Willow said.

"Should you be using your magic so soon?"  His voice was worried.

Willow smiled, standing over him.  "Probably not.  But it is simple
spells, nothing that will weaken me."

He accepted her response.  "Nothing much, I met your Uncle Silas'
wife."  The vampire moved over and gestured for her to join him.

"The dead one?"  She asked, kneeling down and holding out a container
of blood for him to eat.  He nodded,  "Why is he pretending to be my
Uncle?"

He sipped the blood, noting that it was human and was grateful for it.
"Thank you.  Yes, to the first.  I don't know, to the second.  I
thought that he gave you some medicine to help you sleep."

"He did, but I woke up shortly after you left."  Willow paused.
"Angelus, we've got to help him and get out of here."

"I know that, sweet.  Do you have any ideas?"  His arm wound around
her shoulders, pulling her close to him.  He smiled when she didn't
pull away, in fact, she moved closer to him.

"His wife is the key."  She yawned, giving him a apologetic look.
"It's those stupid drugs they keep giving me.  They want him because
he knows a whole lot of stuff that was lost for years.  If we could
somehow get her to talk to him, we might have something to go on."

He let his hand play in her hair.  "How do you propose to do that?"

She looked up, lips curving in a smile, unaware of what she was doing
to him.  "I don't know.  I thought you might have an idea."  She
gasped when his arm suddenly wrapped around her waist and pinned her
to him.

Angelus smiled, lowering his face to hers.  "Let's talk later, okay?
I can think of much better things to do while we have some private
time."  He captured her lips before she could think of objecting,
plundering their warmth and sweetness.  He shuddered when her hands
moved against his chest, lightly brushing as she made her way up to
his shoulders to push him away.

This move had the opposite reaction of what she wanted.  It made him
want her all the more and rendered her more vulnerable to him.  He
stood up, lips never leaving hers and pulling her up with him, then he
moved them across the room to the bed.  She had no choice but to hang
onto him, reveling in his strength. And if she was being truthful with
herself, she didn't want this to end.

For a moment, he drew back and stared down at her.  Even in the poor
light, she could see that his eyes were burning with triumph.  "Are
you sure they can't see us?"  She nodded, knowing that the spell
wouldn't wear off for a few more hours.  "Good."  Then he took her
lips in a savagely possessive kiss and she forgot about everything.

As she left his room hours later, she wondered why she had allowed
that to happen.  * You know why you did, he's just amazing.  I feel
incredible, he makes me feel wonderful.  Nevertheless, it can't happen
again.  I won't let it.  The witch groaned, just imagining Angelus'
reaction when she told him that they could never do that again.  But
she convinced herself that it was just their situation that had caused
this, he wasn't truly interested in her.

Angelus smirked as he watched her sneak out, knowing what was going
through her mind.  But he knew what he wanted, he wanted her for more
than just a night.  She had his mark on her, no way would she escape
him.  < Let the battle of wills commence.

Giles & company:

When the group arrived a few hours later, the place was completely
deserted.  They searched it from top to bottom, finding nothing in the
spacious place.  They left the building to watch the setting sun and
think about their next step in this search.  The ex-watcher sat down,
tempted to cry.  He had never felt so defeated before.  Ethan knelt by
his side, letting his hand rest on his shoulder.  They were quiet for
a while before he spoke.  "We'll find her, Ripper."

"Yeah, they couldn't have gotten that far without leaving some kind of
trail."  Spike offered.  "Let's give this place another look over, why
don't we?"  They went back into the empty building, letting Dru lead
the way.  She started walking towards a wall and before anyone could
stop her, passed right through it.

They blinked and moved towards the wall, unable to believe what their
eyes had seen.  Her arm extended towards them, gesturing for them to
follow.  Ethan pushed Giles in front of him and Spike followed, not
wanting to be left out.  They found themselves in a room with hundreds
of monitors all showing the empty cells-all except one which should an
operation room.  "Makes me wish I understood electronics."  Ethan
murmured, examining the equipment in the room.

Giles was feeling the walls, searching for another passage like the
one they had passed through.  "That doorway was not made by humans.
It reminds me of the doorways that the Watchers use to get around."

"Are you telling me that the idiot council is in on this
organization?"  Ethan was outraged.

"It appears so."  Giles' voice was distant, he'd found the cabinet on
the wall and pulled it out.  "I've seen this once before, in Travers'
office.  Which means they've taken Willow to one of the safe houses
the Council has here."

"They own safe houses?"  Spike asked, eyebrow raised in disbelief.
"What does the bloody council need safe houses for?  They have the
bleeding slayer to protect them."

"The houses are for those Slayers who have killed the living out there
on the front lines.  They are also for training slayers born in the
States so that they can be with their families.  This being America
the government has certain laws that we have to follow."  He
explained, looking through the case.  Giles lifted one to the light
and examined it, softly cursing as he recognized what they were.
"We've got to find out where they've taken her-and Angelus of course."
It galled him to admit that but without the vampire they never
would've found them.

"Well, then, Ripper.  What are we waiting for?"  At Ethan's words,
they were out of the building and on their way back to Lorne's.  The
place was closed but he was expecting them.

"I know, I know.  Go on, sing."  He said as he opened the door at
Giles' knock.  After the song, he advised them to head for New
Orleans.

"You know, you should move somewhere else."  Giles said as he walked
out the door.  "I'm sure with your talents, you could help a lot of
people."

"Hmmm.relocation.  An interesting idea."  Lorne mused.  "But I go
where the powers want me."  The door closed behind them and they faced
the task of finding her in the sprawling city of New Orleans before
them.

"You know, you could leave us."  Ethan told the two vampires as they
made arrangements to fly to the great city.

"Are you kidding?  The big noise is our sire, we do have an obligation
to find him."  Spike's response was firm and ended the discussion.  He
waited for a moment, then added with a dark scowl.  "Besides, this
Initiative means trouble for us."

They arrived in New Orleans about the time Angelus and Dr. Johansen
were returning from his wife's bedside.

Angelus sauntered into Willow's room and looked around for her.  The
sound of the shower running turned his attention to the bathroom, but
he resisted the impulse to go and join her.  < What we do is for us
alone, not for some idiot humans to enjoy.

She walked out of the bathroom in jeans and a T-shirt and saw him
sitting on her bed.  "Hi."  Her voice was quiet and she avoided
looking directly at him.

He gracefully stood and approached her, grinning when she didn't look
up and moved away from him.  He backed her into a corner, cutting off
her escape by placing his arms on either side of her.  "Hello,
precious.  And how are we feeling today?"  His hand left the wall and
moved up her arm to cup her chin and raise it to his face.

Willow was trying to escape his gentle hold so that she wouldn't have
to look at him but couldn't.  He filled her whole vision.  "I'm all
right."

"That's so nice to hear."  He purred, watching her nervous eyes as
they darted around the room.  "Why so shy, little one?  You have
nothing to fear from me, not when we know each other so well."

There could be no mistaking his meaning and she flushed.  "That was
just this situation, none of this is real.  What you think you feel
for me isn't real.  When we get out of here, it'll fade."

"You may have a point, but I think you're the one whose fooling
yourself if you think this will disappear."  He whispered into her
ear, gently nipping it and savoring her reaction.  "But, as much as
I'm liking this, I didn't come in here for it.  I want to know if you
can do astral projections?"

"My mom taught me."  Her voice was shaky at best.  She couldn't
believe the way her body was reacting to him, leaning into his touch
and wanting more.  * Wake up!  This isn't real, we cannot afford to do
this.

"So, you could find his wife?"  Now he was trailing the lightest of
kisses down her face towards her mouth.

Willow dragged her mind away from what he was doing to pay serious
attention to what he was saying.  Her lips moved towards his ear,
finally figuring out why he was doing this.  Those listening in
couldn't catch what they were saying if it was disguised by a lover's
embrace.  "If I had the right candles and some herbs.  It isn't a hard
spell to do, but I would have to do it while everyone was unaware of
my actions."

"Like last night?"  There was a hint of laughter in his voice before
she shut him up by kissing him, softly.  He was so surprised by this
move that his arms moved to encircle her waist and she got away,
running out the door.  "You little tease."  Angelus chuckled
appreciatively, following after her.

Gwendolyn Post would've growled in frustration if it was in her
manner, as it was she contented herself with a glare at the screen.
This was not working like it was supposed to, those two should not be
working with each other like they were.  They should move the pair now
before that little hussy ruined everything for them.  She was already
beginning to weaken their control on Dr. Johansen and the things that
she was doing to Angelus were positively destructive.

She went and made the call but found herself being told to ignore it
and come home instead.  The Council was going to do some damage
control and pull out of this operation, she was needed there.  Having
no other choice if she wanted to keep her job with the Council, she
made the arrangements and left within the hour.

That night, after Dr. Johansen left, Angelus timed him.  He knew it
would take the man two hours to get to the plantation and they needed
to be ready by then.  Willow was preparing for the spell and also
casting a sleeping one on the occupants of the house.  At the
appointed time, he came in to serve as her anchor back to this plain
of existence.  In the midst of the spell, she stiffened and he knew to
pull her out.

"It is done."  She croaked, leaning into his embrace.  Never had she
felt so magically spent and physically weak, it had been like she was
being pushed through a wringer.

"Oh, good."  Angelus said before he asked.  "How long does this spell
on the house last?"

"Forty eight hours.  Why?" Willow looked at him, curiosity in her
eyes.

His eyes twinkled devilishly down at her.  "Well, if what I'm feeling
isn't going to last once we leave, then I want to enjoy what time I've
got left with you."  Then he pounced on her lips and she had no time
to object or resist.  She surrendered completely, feeling guilty for
enjoying what they were doing but was beyond caring.

They found where the information was stored and downloaded it onto CDs
for study later.  She looked around the home, the place where she'd
been happy with regret, then she turned and opened the door.  Standing
there was a very disheveled Rupert Giles and by his side, Ethan Rayne.

His words were choked out, his eyes were filled with joy.  "My
daughter."  Her words were swallowed as Giles embraced her.  He pulled
back, looked sternly at her and pointed towards the car.  "You are
grounded, young lady."

She opened her eyes in disbelief, her mouth opened in shock and for a
moment she couldn't say anything.  "You can't ground me."

"I'm your father.  I can bloody well do what I want to.  Now, get into
the car!"  His voice was stern even if his eyes remained loving.

"But, Ethan."  She turned and appealed to the man she had loved as a
father for years.

"Do as your father says, young lady."

"Fine."  Willow said petulantly, stomping her foot before she did what
they told her to.

Giles got into the driver's seat and announced that they were going
home.

Angelus followed her off the plane when they arrived in Sunnydale.  "I
still feel the same, princess."  He whispered before leaving with his
children, laughing when he heard her gasp.

5 years later.

Their battle with the Initiative had ended due to Glory's appearance.
The Hell Goddess tore through their defenses easily, as though they
were made of Lincoln logs.  They became the prey to a force they
couldn't fight with all their sciences and newfound knowledge.  Most
pulled out and the government buried it.  The Scooby Gang were in no
better position themselves. since the Council refused to help them.
Their only option was to combine forces with those that remained
behind and hope that it was enough.

Angelus was spared because Glory decided that he would be her man.  He
was pursued by her and wasn't pleased, it interrupted his chasing of
Willow.  Glory did nothing for him.  He supposed that she was all
right in her own way, but she was no Willlow.  Thinking of the
redhead, he couldn't help the wicked grin that formed on his face.
Now, she was proving to be quite determined to avoid their attraction.

Sunnydale was surprisingly good for her, considering the place's
reputation.  And he couldn't deny the effect Giles had on his
daughter.  She had bloomed like a rose under the sun's love.  Gone was
that quaking, shaking little girl.  In her place was a poised woman,
though traces of her shyness still remained.

He saw Buffy leaving one of the cemeteries and walked out, meeting her
in the street.  They headed for the Bronze, still the hot spot of this
town.  "How's Riley?"  It was strange to think that they had become
friends.  Together they were able to deal with their past and leave
there.  Though they never completely let their guard down around each
other, they worked as a team.

"He's still in shock, but dealing with things really well.  Better
than I thought he would-especially when he found out about us."  They
went into the Bronze, sitting at one of the booths.  "Those knights
provided enough information that we were able to figure out that Glory
is not always in full control of her body.  Apparently she's human at
times, that's they only time we can destroy her.  He's agreed to
remove the chip, you get the wonderful task of killing her."

Angelus grimaced.  "Great.  I have to give in so that I know who she
truly is.  Willow's going to love that."

Buffy smiled sympathetically.  It was no secret that Angelus wanted
Willow, who wouldn't?  "I was meaning to ask you about that, she's
still resisting?"

"Yes.  And Giles is encouraging it."  He spat the words.

"You don't have a soul and he's afraid you'll take her away from him."
The slayer explained.

The vampire thought about that for a moment.  "Is there any way I can
win his trust?"

"Nothing comes to mind."  A British voice entered their conversation.
He smiled when they both jumped and looked at him.

"Giles!  When did you take up skulking?"  Buffy asked, sliding over so
that he could sit beside her and face Angelus.

"Since I've had to."  His answer was blunt as he sat down, turning to
face Angelus.  "I would say it all depends on how you act after this
Glory threat is removed."

The vampire nodded, it made sense.  If he were in Giles' place, he'd
want to know that his daughter would be safe and nearby.  "When do
they plan to remove it and what about Willow's spell?"

"I removed it once we found out about the chip.  It seemed ridiculous
to have you double neutered."  Willow quietly answered the question,
sitting down by him, holding her newly broken wrist.  "We ran into
Glory and couldn't get into the hospital.  They were very busy
tonight."  She said before they could ask, Cordelia, Xander, Riley,
and a very pregnant Jenny were with her and they sat down in their
accustomed places.

"You've got one very piercing mental scream, my dear."  Ethan suddenly
stood behind her with a medical kit in his arms.  "You interrupted
Joyce and I celebrating."

Buffy avoided looking at anyone, even though she knew they were okay
with it.  She was still in shock that the man who'd once tried to kill
her was her stepfather, though she had to admit he wasn't bad now that
her mother served as his conscience..

"Oh, I'm sorry."  She held out her arm and he popped it back into
place.  Angelus' hand caught hers and her grip tightened painfully as
she tried not to scream.  It was wrapped in a soothing aloe covered
bandage.

"Don't worry, we weren't doing anything that couldn't wait."  He
responded with a smile, nodding to them to continue their discussion
as he worked.

"So where's Glory now?"  Buffy asked, leaning on Riley's shoulder.

"We lost sight of her when Willow was flung against a wall."  He said,
rubbing her back.

"But we got her transformation on tape."  Spike announced, holding a
digital video camera aloft in triumph.

"Spike!  You're a genius."  Willow smiled, the pain in her wrist
subsiding.

"It was Dru's idea, not mine, mum."  The blonde said as he sat at the
only chair left at their table.  "She's with Dawn at the Watcher's
place."

The witch let the mum reference slide, knowing it would only increase
the teasing.  Angelus smiled, seeing it as a small victory.  Giles'
cleared his throat, letting the Watcher and mum comments slide by him.
"Let's split up and meet at my house and process this information we
now have on Glory."
