Chapter 31

"Erik is the only thing I can think of that's changed, he's the
only new element. Willow said that he's a Worlock of some kind. Do
you think its possible that he's the reason for the drastic change in
her?" Angel asked, concern evident in his voice and on his face.
"It is entirely possible that he is the contributing factor in
all of this." came the British accent.
"What exactly do we know about him really?" Buffy asked.
"Well, I don't know much except that he uses magic, he's
originally from Fresno and moved here not long before he and Willow
met. Oh, and most important... he reminds her of me." Xander said as
he ticked off each point on his fingers. Everyone groaned and gave
him a sidelong glance at his last piece of input. "What? That's what
she told me." The others just rolled they're eyes.
"We know Willow's having nightmares, she told Xander and he told
us. Do you think this Erik guy is causing them?" asked the blonde
slayer.
"No, I don't think he is responsible for them. I do, however,
believe they are a symptom of the guilt she feels. I think it quite
safe to say that they are not a product of anything other than that."
"Giles is right. The night I found her in the woods, that was the
first time she had one. That was before she met this 'mystery man' of
hers."
"Without a last name or address we have no way of checking this
guy out, and that puts me 'zippo' in the idea department on how to
find him." exclaimed the slayer as she looked around the room in
hopes of someone else coming up with a plan.
"I'll ask around. See if I can find any information on anyone new
coming into town over the past couple of months." Angel said.
"Excellent idea. When you find out anything, report back here
immediately. It seems that until we can find out more information on
this Erik fellow, we can do nothing but sit and wait." Giles finished.
"I'll let you know anything I find out as soon as I can. I'd best
be on my way, start asking some questions."

"You have increased the amount of pain, my Lord."
"I have, and it is working far quicker than I had hoped, my young
friend. It is a wonder what deprivation does to a mortal body in
aiding my goal. Even her thoughts have moved to a darker state. Oh,
she is exquisite. I have not felt such anticipation in a millenia.
Exciting, is it not, Jirronh?"
"It is, my Lord. But..."
"What is it that worries you so?"
"It is the vampire, my Lord. When he is near her, serenity enters
her mind. Peace settles upon her."
"You worry for naught, my young friend. For when they are
together, even then her control over her emotions is thin. It will
not be much longer."
"He has asked for aid from the others... from the slayer."
"Tis of no consequence. Nothing more than a mere inconvenience.
The slayer is powerless to stop me, no one can stop me from taking
that which belongs to me."
"Yes, my Lord." Jirronh said with downcast eyes. His master
studied the face of the young man and spoke softly, gently to him.
"Is that remorse I see upon your face, in your eyes?"
"No, my Lord, it is not. It-it is pity that I feel for the girl."
Pity? Why is that?"
"I feel pity for what she must go through until she joins you...
if that is what she decides."
"Tis only a natural feeling in those of the young. After all,
Jirronh, you are only 873. Do not dispair, she will join willingly.
After all, she does not wish to see her friends die before her eyes.
It will not be long now. Come, I have preperations to make."
"Yes, my Lord."

~Part: 32~

Everyone sat around with the ex-watcher, not quite knowing what
else to do. With absolutely nothing to go on, waiting for Angel
seemed like the only appropriate action to take. Angel had only been
gone for two and a half hours, but it seemed like ten hours had gone
by when the door flew open, a small amount of smoke floating from his
body.
"Erileck. That's the name of the new demon that has come to
town." Angel said as he closed the door behind him.
"Gee, Erik-Erileck. Nope, can't see the similarity there." Xander
said with sarcasm.
"What did you find out about this demon?" Buffy asked as she
watched Giles head to his books and start leafing through the volumes.
"He's old...very old. The word is, he's after an incredibly great
power, but what that power is no one seems to know for sure. But I
can tell you one thing, I had a hell of a time finding anyone to ask.
Everyone is terrified and most have left town, the one's who haven't
left yet are getting ready to head out. No one wants to be here."
Angel finished.
"Well that would explain the boredom factor on patrol this past
while, nothing to hunt." Buffy looked from Xander to Angel, " So
what's he gonna do when he gets this 'great power' of his?"
"I don't know, all I was told was 'awsome distruction'. I assume
that would be the destruction of Sunnydale."
"Someone wants to destroy Sunnydale. There's the novel concept of
the decade." responded Xander.
"Erileck," Giles cut in as he walked back to the small
group. "meaning 'Deciever of Innocence'."
"So who is he, and what does 'Deciever of Innocence' mean?" the
hazel-eyed slayer asked.
Giles didn't say anything, taking a moment to read ahead before
filling everyone in on his findings. "Angel is correct, he is old.
Older than man itself, but no one can say exactly what his age is.
The book says that he is father to all form of demon, and was the
first to walk the earth, which is why no age can be given. His
magical ability is far to great to be given a rating and..." he
paused, reading ahead, "he has the appearence of youth, this is where
the 'Deciever of Innocence' comes into it. Given his age, he looks to
be no older than twenty-four years. He cannot be..." but his voice
trailed off as he continued readidng. The three waited for the rest
to be said as they watched the colour drain from Giles face, causing
a feeling of dread all around.
"I don'T know about you guys, but I don't think I really want G-
man to finish his sentence." Xander said quietly.
"Giles? Giles, what's it say?" Giles looked at Buffy, worry in
his eyes, then looked back down at the book to continue.
"There is no power on earth that can stop him, not magical, nor
physical. In the simplest of terms, nothing can kill him... he is
totally indestructable." he swallowed and read a little further down
the page. "Wait, wait. There is a reference to a dagger... yes, here
it is. The 'Dagger of Laikrose'. Its, its, uh..." he flipped the
page, "Apparently Laikrose was second under Erileck, but wasn't happy
about being number two. He wanted to take Erileck's place and become
the supreme ruler. And thus he constructed a dagger with which to
kill him. He," pause, "Laikrose was matched in every way with
Erileck, being Erileck's first creation. Strength, magical ability
and power were all equal to his creator. But Laikrose's jelousy had
gotten the best of him, and so he cast a spell upon the dagger. He
tried to sneak up behind Erileck with the dagger, but Erileck could
sense Laikrose and a battle of strength insued. During the struggle,
Erileck managed to get hold of the dagger and stabbed Laikrose with
it, bringing about his death with his own weapon. Erileck learned
from his mistake and made sure that his next creations had very
little power. Insofar, that dagger is the only known way to kill him."
"So, where is the dagger now?" Angel asked, but all were
wondering the same thing.
"Since then, no one knows what happened to the dagger. Most
likely it has been destroyed. The book says no one knows it where
abouts, and it has come to be thought of as nothing more than a mere
myth." he said down heartedly "Doesn't sound very promising, I'm
afraid." Everyone was silent for a few moments, trying to soak in all
the new information. In the silence, Buffy spoke, startling all
around her.
"I guess all we can do is find what he's looking for and keep it
from him... if possible."
"Yes, quite. But two questions still remain. What is it we are
looking for, and where do we find it?"

~Part: 33~

Angel came through the door in time to hear the end of a message
being played on the answering machine, and walked towards the
livingroom to see a luminecent light surrounding Willow.
"You bitch! I HATE YOU!" came an anger filled screech.
"Willow? Willow, what's wrong?" he asked as the witch turned
around to reveal the black hair, and eyes the colour of night.
"My 'oh so loving parents' just left a message for me. They've
decided to extend they're vacation, but don't know for how long.
Can't you just feel the love oozing from them?" digust was very
apparent in her voice as well as on her face. Angel knew he had to
calm her down, but not knowing what to do, he did the only thing he
could think of. He walked over to her with out-stretched arms to give
her a reasuring hug, but was unprepared when she pushed him away.
"I don't need your pity, Angel. I've taken care of myself all
these years without my parents around most of the time. I think I can
still handle that job."
"I have no doubts that you could. I just wanted to let you know
that your not alone... I'm always there for you if you need me. I
didn't mean to offend you." he finished. As he watched Willow's face
he could see anger being replaced by indecision. He knew there was a
battle going on inside her head, but was helpless to do anything
except to keep talking softly to her. "I'm sorry if I gave you that
impression. I wouldn't do anything to hurt our friendship for the
world. It means everything to me. You are the one person that I am
completely comfortable with... I've never had that feeling with
anyone before." he said, hoping that would sway her emotions. But the
confusion swept through her mind like an ocean churning in a storm.
Deep down she knew that Angel didn't deserve to have her anger taken
out on him.
But right now she was free of the pain that has been almost
unbearable. Even now with the headache gone, her body screamed from
fatigue, but even that seemed prefferable to what she would have to
endure if she calmed down. She had discovered that the pain would
leave when she got angry, not that it took much to bring on that
emotion anymore. 'What should I do?' she thought to herself as she
stood face to face with someone who has never passed judgement on her
for the things she had done. The one person who hasn't treated her
any different or made her feel guilt for anything. He didn't deserve
her anger, but if she let herself relax she didn't think she would be
able to hide how much she was hurting. She was afraid now, she could
feel the pain resurfacing, making every nerve in her head feel as
though they were on fire. Her eyes began to blur with the intensity,
and realization dawned as she brought her hands to her head. Grabbing
two handfuls of hair, 'I can't hurt him...I love him' she thought as
she felt her knees starting to weaken. Her last coherent thought
was, 'he'll never know' as her legs buckled beneath her.
Angel ran forward and caught Willow before she hit the ground. He
effortlessly swept her up into his arms and took her to the couch and
gently layed her down. He took his jacket off and placed it under her
head as he heard her softly murmer, "My head hurts.". At that moment
her arms went limp and a blank expression fell across her face.
Angel, seeing this, ran to the table by the arm chair, picked up
the phone and dialed Buffy's number.
"Hello?"
"Giles, it me. Listen, you've got to get over here right away.
Somethings wrong with Willow. I mean really wrong." Angel said with
desperation.
"I'll get the others and be on my way." was Giles response as
well as the click of the phone being slammed down on the reciever.
Angel made his way back to Willow and knelt down beside her. Her red
hair and green eyes were back, but she hadn't moved a muscle.
"Giles and the others are on the way. Everything will be
alright... I promise." he said while gently carressing her cheek with
his thumb. He looked deeply into her green pools, but they did
nothing but stare off into nothingness... into a world which only she
could see.

~Part: 34~

The door burst open as Giles, Buffy and Xander ran into the
house. Xander was the first to make it to Willow's side and kneel
down, taking one of her hands in his.
"How long has she been like this?" Giles asked.
"For about less than a minute before I called you. That would be
almost fifteen minutes now."
"What happened to her?" asked the hazel-eyed blonde.
"I don't know. I came back after meeting with you guys, and she
was very upset... black hair, black eyes, you know. Her parents had
called and left a message that they were extending they're vacation,
and that's what set her temper off. I tried talking to her, trying to
calm her down. What's wierd is that it seemed to be working, then all
of a sudden she grabbed her head, and her face looked like she was in
excrutiating pain. Next thing I know, I had to catch her because she
just seemed to go limp. I layed her down on the couch and called
you." Angel finished explaining the events and Giles walked over to
where the prone red head lay. He checked her pulse, even and strong,
then grabbed his pen-light to shine in her eyes. He even tried
tapping her face, but Willow just lay there, totally unresponsive.
"Her pupils do not respond to the light at all, they are totally
dialated. Her pulse is stong and she is breathing fine... that in
itself is a good sign. But I admit that I find myself at a loss as to
what is causing this."
"We've got to do something, we can't just leave her like this."
"Yes, Xander. And would you like to explain to us all just what
it is we should be doing?" Giles bit back, and a broken hearted
Xander seemed to whither and turn his attention back to his friend.
"Maybe we should take her to the hospital. At least there she can
be looked after by doctors." Buffy put in.
"That will not be nessessary." came a hollowy sounding voice from
behind. All four quickly turned to see two robed figures standing in
the entrance to the livingroom. The taller of the two was blonde and
blue-eyed, and incredibly handsome with rather bold, striking
features. The smaller one was dark haired and had brown eyes. He
wasn't as beautiful as the taller man, but was good looking
nonetheless. Buffy immediately moved in front of her friends, ready
to fight if the need arises.
"Who are you?" she asked, "What are you doing here?"
"You know who I am."
"Erileck?" Giles asked cautiously.
"Of course."
"What do you want here?" Angel asked. Erileck turned his
attention to Angel, his voice holding much disgust as he spoke.
"You are the vampire. Yes, filthy creatures you are. Looking at
you fills me with regret for creating your kind."
"One of many regrets, I assume." Giles spoke up.
"Yes, I know of your fondness for literature. I had thought that
any writings of me would have been long since destroyed. Amazing the
way you mortals hold onto such things."
"You did this to Willow, didn't you?" Buffy asked, wanting
desperately to find out what was wrong with her friend.
"Tis the failing of her own body which has caused this state,
though I did aid in the expediency of it. T'would have happened
without my help, for she has weakened her body of her own free will,
but it would have taken longer." his eyes moved to the figure laying
on the couch, staring sightlessly into nothingness. The four friends
watched his face soften, and a slight smile come to his lips as he
stared at they're friend.
"She is much more captivating in person. Is she not, Jirronh?"
"Yes, my Lord. She is." was all he could say as he looked upon
her actual form laying there right in front of him. "It is different
than seeing her in the scrying pool."
Giles watched the taller man and saw... tenderness?, and he
realized what it was he was looking for.
"What you have been seeking, this ultimate power... it is Willow
you want."
"You are rather smart, for a mortal. Honestly, there have been
times when I would like to have been the creator of your species.
Napolean and Hitler, to name but two. Mortals are so easily
manipulated. It did not take much to give these two such ideas of
grandeur."
"You-you influenced these men? You are the one responsible for
the German war?" Giles asked aghast.
"But of course. If you read about Adolf's life, then you would
understand. He was meek, and shy. Quite the challenge, really. I gave
him the courage that was required, a few words of encouragement. Yes,
I must admit, the battle was entertaining."
"How could..." but Giles was cut off as Erileck raised a hand.
"Silence. I shall speak no more of this. The time for
conversation has ended." he turned to Jirronh, "You know what to do
when it is time."
"Yes, my Lord. I do."
"Good." he said as he closed his eyes and waved his hand. The
four friends disappeared along with Erileck, leaving behind Jirronh
and the red headed witch.

~Part: 35~

Willow was lost in her own mind with no hope of escape, reliving
the same nightmare that has plagued her. She was like an outsider
this time, standing just a few feet away from the small circle of
friends. How many times has this dream played out in front of her
eyes? Too many, she couldn't remember anymore. She wanted to wake up,
needed to wake up, but could find no way out of this hell world she
was stuck in.
She closed her eyes so the images would be shut away, but there
was no escape as they played out behind her eye lids. Despair washed
over her as she sat down on the grass to stare blindly at then
unending scenes playing before her.
As Willow watched, suddenly everything stopped. Birds were
suspended in mid-air, the deer stood motionless at the edge of the
stream, her friends sitting around and not a muscle moved. She stood
up and walked around in awe as she wondered what was going on.
"Willow." came a voice from out of nowhere.
"Hello?"
"I can sense your fear. You need not fear me, for I could not
harm such a lovely creature as yourself."
"Who... who are you." she asked, looking around but couldn't find
who the voice belonged to.
"Do you wish for this to stop? I could make all of this go away,
if that is what you desire."
"Yes, please! Make it stop!" She shouted, filled with new found
hope. In less time than it takes to blink, Willow found herself
standing in a large white room, but still alone.
"It is done." the voice said, "You are safe here."
"Where am I?"
"We are still in your mind, all I have done is block the
pictures. They still play out, but are now unseen."
"Who are you?" she asked again nervously.
"There is no need for you to fear me, my dear, I mean you no
harm. I know what it is you are going through, I know the pain and
anguish you have suffered through out your young life. I know of your
depair."
"But how could you..."
"Tis enough that I do, Fire Princess. I know of your longing to
be 'who' you are, even though many wish to bend you to what they
want. I know of the times you were ridiculed during your schooling
years, just because you were different. Your life has been an empty
one, not knowing 'who' you were, but trying to be what others decided
you should be. Even now you are pulled in the many directions 'they'
have placed upon you." he finished.
Willow just stood, letting everything he said tumble around in
her mind. What he said was true, but you can't change the past...
what's done is done.
"You seem to think you know me, but I don't know you. Who are
you, and what do you want with me?"
"I am the one who will give your life meaning and purpose. As
for what I want... it will all be explained once you grace me with
your pressence, my dear."
A swirling mist surrounded Willow, blinding her, then faded away
to reveal nothing but darkness.

* * * * * *

Jirronh sat on the footstool that he'd moved closer to the
motionless girl, waiting for the young woman's eyes to blink,
signalling that she was out of her comatose-like state. He had only
been waiting for an hour when he was rewarded with her fluttering eye
lids. She blinked several times before deciding to keep her eyes open
and look around. She started to sit up, and Jirronh rushed to her
side to help ease her up gently. When she first saw the young man,
fear hit her, but his eyes held nothing but kindness. She then
relaxed a little, but not too much in the pressence of this stranger.
"Was it you who was talking to me? In my dream?"
"No, M'lady. It was not." he answered as Willow brought a hand up
to her head.
"The pain is gone." she said, but the young man only remained
silent. "If your not the voice from my dream, then who are you?"
"My name is Jirronh, M'lady."
"Why are you calling me that?"
"You have been requested to see my master. He will explain what
you wish to know." he said as he helped her to stand, but her
weakness caused her to stumble. "You must be careful, M'lady. Lack of
sustinence and sleep has gravely weakened your condition. Please
allow me to help you." he said as he wrapped one of her arms behind
his neck and over the shoulder. Too tired to care, she leaned against
him for support. "It is time to go, M'lady."
"I'm afraid." she whispered softly.
"I understand your fears, but you do not need to be afraid." he
said tenderly, as he waved his hand and the two disappeared into
nothingness.

~Part: 36~

She desperately looked around, trying to see something-anything,
but all that was there, all that surrounded her was a darkness so
thick she felt that she might be able to reach out and feel a texture
to it. She could still feel Jirronh beside her as she leaned against
him for support, when a light began to slowly surround them. Very
faint at first, but as the seconds ticked by the brighter it got. She
looked in the direction of the young man with her as the blackness
slowly faded, relief flooding through her as she was gradually able
to make out his form. It seemed to take an eternity for them to get
to their destination, at least as far as Willow was concerned.
She finally found herself in some sort of under ground cave, lit
by torches along the rocky walls. Jirronh slowly led her to a seat as
she surveyed her surroundings.
"Please, M'lady. Sit. My master will be with you momentarily."
"Thank you, Jirronh." Willow said as she sat down on a soft
cushioned chair. The young man just stared at her incredulously... no
one has ever thanked him before. Her eyes fell to a large circular
rock formation filled with some form of liquid... water maybe? "What
is that?" she asked "It doesn't look natural, more like man-made."
she said as she pointed to it.
"It is a scrying pool, M'lady. It is how my master was able to
watch you as you grew into the person you are now."
"Please, quit calling me M'lady. My name is Willow."
"If that is what pleases you, M'la... I mean, Willow."
"That's better." she said as she smiled at him. "Now, why has he
been watching me? Frankly, I find that kinda creepy and 'stalker'
like." she said and gave a little shiver to accentuate her point.
"You have no reason to fear, M'lady... Willow. My master does not
wish you any harm."
"What does he want with me? Please, can you tell me?" she
emplored.
"I'm afraid I cannot. My master wishes to discuss the matter with
you personally. I can be of no help to you... I am sorry." he replied
regretfully. Regret, for this young woman. How long has it been since
he felt this emotion, he can't remember... too long. But a mere slip
of a girl, a child in comparrison to his own age brought that emotion
to the surface. And here she sat, a woman he would be serving, having
a conversation with him, treating him as her equal. He was in awe of
her, and decided he would serve her to the best of his ability.
"I guess there's nothing to do but wait." she said. "So, what is
your master like?"
"He is my friend."
"Yeah, but what is he like?" she asked again.
"He is strong and capable."
"Okay, that's a start. And what else?"
"I do not understand what it is that you wish to know."
"You know, personality, attitude, likes and dislikes. That sort
of thing."
"These are all things you will learn when he comes to you." he
said, hoping to end this line of questioning. He truely didn't know
how to answer her question. Erileck was Erileck, his friend- his
master for many many years. She was a curious young woman,
understandable given the circumstances, and Jirronh found it
difficult to supress a smile.
"Welcome, my dear." Willow's head snapped in the direction of the
familiar voice, and to her shock, she recognized the figure that
stood before her. "I have waited many years for this moment. I am
pleased you are here."
"Erik!!"
"Yes, that is the name you know me by. Erileck is my propper
name. Either way, it is I."
"Why am I here... what do you want with me?"
"You are here because that is what I wish. What I want... is to
give you life.

~Part: 37~

'Give me life? What is he talking about?' Willow thought as she
stared at the face of her coffee buddy. She looked at him carefully,
and he was the same man she used to meet at the Espresso Pump,
except... the eyes. They were still blue but, for some reason they
seemed older, wiser. Too old for a man of his young age. She found
the way he looked at her to be unnerving and cast her eyes down to
the floor in an effort to escape his intense gaze.
"I already have a life, but thanks anyway." she said.
"Your life, such as it is. In all honesty, can you tell me that
you are happy with it? That this life has been fulfilling enough for
you?"
"It is not a question of happiness. I don't think anyone's ever
truely happy with they're life. At least, no one I know of."
"I know of your lonliness, my dear. Your struggle with who you
are, and who you wish to be. You know there is something more to be
reached, but you are constantly being held back by those who say
they 'love' you. There is such potential for greatness in you, but
you have never been given the opportunity to explore the
possibilities. You have locked away any thoughts of what you could
be... and for what? Your friends? These friends of yours do not
appreciate your talents, your gift... but I do, and I can help you
discover new meaning and purpose in your life."
Willow had to admit to herself that what he said did, indeed,
pique her curiosity. But he still hadn't really answered any of her
questions. All she could do was sit and listen to him, and keep
asking.
"What exactly are you expecting from me? I mean, what you say
does sound interesting, but I'm still not sure of what you want."
"I wish for you to be the person you have hidden away all these
years. You are strong and powerful, and you have potential for
leadership."
"Me, a leader? You must be joking." she replied with a sardonic
laugh.
"No, my dear, I am not. I have seen you assert yourself, the
ability is there and I can help bring it to the surface. You are a
magic user, and the power you hold is immence. You cannot deny nor
push it away. It 'is' who you are, and you should embrace it
willingly." he paused "Embrace it and rule by my side as my Queen."
he finished, and Willow was totally taken aback by his last
statement.
"Uh,I...uh" she was at a complete loss for words.
"You are undecided, I do understand, my dear. Tis a lot you have
heard in such a short period of time. But make no mistake, Fire
Princess, no matter by what means, I do get what I desire. And I
desire you to be my Queen."
Willow heard the threat in his words and shakily got to her feet
and moved behind the chair she was sitting in. It was going to be
more difficult than he imagined it would be, and knowing what he must
do next, Erileck waved his hand in the air. To Willow's surprise, her
friends appeared near Erileck on his right, worry etched deeply in
their faces. Fear shot through Willow, but she didn't know what to
do, she couldn't run, so she opted to stay put and wait to see what
happens next.
"As you can see, I have not harmed them."
"Why did you bring them here? They don't need to be involved."
"Ah, but they do. In fact, I brought them here while you were
incapacitated. Though you could not see them, they have heard
everything... but I suppose you wish to hear it from them." he looked
to the small group of friends. "It is done, all of you may speak to
her, if that is what you wish."
"Will, are you okay?" fear was in Buffy's voice.
"I'm fine. He didn't hurt you, did he?"
"No," said the former watcher, "he did not. But it is you we are
worried about."
"There is no need to worry about the 'Fire Princess'." Erileck
spoke up, "Tis yourself you should worry about, for if she does not
join me and become my queen, I will absorb her essence... which will
unfortunately result in her death. But not before I will destroy you
in front of her own eyes." he turned to face Willow, "You will be
mine, whether in body or in spirit. As I said before... I get what I
want." he finished as a meniacle laughter escaped his lips.
"Why do you need me to join you so badly?"
"Tis not a matter of 'need', my dear. I want you for my mate. You
will remain young and beautiful forever at my side. I will soon be
taking back that which was mine, before man made his appearance. The
earth will once again belong to me and my children... and to you. The
choice is yours, die with the rest of humanity, or be with me... and
live."
Willow remained silent as she watched Erileck angrily stalk
towards her and stop two feet away. "You have only two choices, what
is your decision?" he asked impatiently, but still she said nothing.
A gleam from her chest caught his eyes and looked to the locket
suspended from from her neck, he then reached up, graspped the
jewelry and ripped it from her. Anger began to rise in Willow as
Erileck opened the locket, and digust washed over his face as he saw
the pictures of Willow... and the vampire.
"ANSWER ME NOW! LIFE OR DEATH! I will wait no longer!" he shouted
as he threw the locket behind Willow. Her anger spilled to the
surface, and a bright white light surrounded her, changing her eyes
and hair to the colour of mid-night black. She held out her hand,
while still looking at Erileck, eyes never leaving him as her locket
flew back and came to rest in her hand.
"Kosh Delum Inatal" she said, and the necklace disappeared from
her hand, only to reappear around her neck once more. "Didn't your
mother ever teach you not to take things that don't belong to you?"
she asked with a sneer.
"Ah, there is my 'Fire Princess'." he said with a smile, "So
tell me, my dear. Will you be my Queen? You will be honoured and
revered as such by my children. The earth will be yours to rule
upon." he said, and she looked to her friends, then rested her eyes
on Angel. 'I have work to do, not the time to feel' she thought as
she looked back to Erileck.
"So your lookin for me to be your 'ever lovin wifey', eh?" she
put a finger to her chin and turned her eyes sky-ward in mock
contemplation before she spoke again. "Nah, I don't think so. Its all
so sudden, and we've never even kissed yet." she replied and laughed.
"Then you will die with the rest of the humans."
"I don't like that option either. Got another one?" she smirked.
"Only death."
"Alrighty then... lets just see you try." she said. To her
friends horror, they watched as Willow held up her hands and a beam
of red light shoot from them to hit Erileck full in the chest. They
watched knowing that even their friend, no matter how powerful, could
not stop him. She will die, as they all will.

~Part: 38~

The red beam hit Erileck in the chest, but had no effect on him.
He stood there, smiling as if he had some sort of secret that Willow
wasn't privy to. She lowered her hands and the beam stopped, but
Erileck didn't move.
"You cannot harm me, my dear. There is nothing powerful enough to
harm me in any way. Your friends know this, but by the time they
found out it was too late." He reached up and stroked her cheek with
the back of his fingers, "It would be a shame to destroy such a
beautiful creature as yourself. T'is not too late to change your
mind. I would still have you for my mate."
Jirronh could not bring himself to stay, could not watch as the
only one to treat him as an equal, was put to death before his very
eyes. He had watched right along side of his master, as the red head
grew up. Saw the way she was ridiculed and tormented, how little her
parents cared for her. He had sympathized with her, always feeling
alone no matter how many people surrounded her. Yet through all of
this, she never lost the capacity to care... it was a rare gift
indeed that she possesed. He could never tell this to his master, for
it would have been looked upon as weakness.
He looked once more at the girl, standing up to his master even
though it would mean her death. He quickly turned on his heel and
left, unable to see the inevitable outcome... and wishing he had her
strength of character.
"Change my mind? Thanks, but I like the one I've got."
"As you wish." he said, and moved his arms straight over his
head, then brought them down and held them a couple of inches above
Willow's head. Willow began to scream and writhe in agony as what
looked like blue electrical charges snaked along her body. His
laughter rang out, but went unheard by the girl who had now sunk to
her knees, unable to stand with the torment he was inflicting upon
her. It seemed like it had gone on forever when he finally stopped,
allowing Willow to slowly rise up on shakey legs.
"This is your last chance to join me. You are too weak to
fight... you will die."
"B... bite m,me." she replied weakly.
Erileck placed his hand on her forehead, and as a green glow
eminated at his tough, Willow immediately stiffened.
The group of four watched helplessly, stuck behind an invisible
barrier that they were unable to penetrate.
Willow's strength was almost gone as she stood paralized by his
touch. Everything that made her who she was, was slowly being drained
away and funneled into the demon that stood before her. A connection
was made through this, and she could now see clearly in his mind what
he was doing to her. Regret filled her as thoughts of Angel entered
her mind of what now could never be.
Erileck's eyes opened wide with a mixture of shock and pain. His
hand fell from Willow's head and she dropped to the ground. Erileck
turned slowly and looked into the face of Jirronh as he asked,
"How could you?" it was barely a whisper, "You are my friend...
my son."
"All children must eventually make they're own way in life. My
choices will now be my own." Jirronh replied, as he stood and watched
his master fall to the ground, revealing the 'Dagger of Laikrose'
protruding from his back. The young man turned to the small group and
said, "The barrier is gone, you may now go to your friend."
They all rushed towards Willow, but vampiric speed ensured that
Angel would make it to her first. He lowered himself to the ground
and looked into her face as he removed a lock of now red hair from
her forehead.
"She was too weak in the first place. I'm afraid she will not
survive." said Jirronh, compassion in his voice, "I wish I could have
done more, but I haven't the power. I am truely sorry." The words
were like a truck slamming into Angel's chest. He couldn't lose her,
not now, 'You can't die. What would I do without you?' he thought
when he finally realized... he now understood what the 'power's' were
talking about. Destiny... Willow was his destiny. 'I love her'.
"Willow, Willow, come on. Wake up." Angel said and was rewarded
with her eyes opening.
"I'm so tired." she said weakly.
"Well, you've had quite a busy day." Angel replied and gave her a
big smile. "You need to get your strength back, I've been planning on
another picnic for us."
"Angel, I already know what is happening to me, and I'm not
afraid." she paused before finding her last bit of strength, "Thought
you should know... I l-love you." she said, barely a whisper as she
closed her eyes, a small smile on her lips.
"Nooooo!" yelled Angel in frustration. She was still breathing
but it was only a matter of time now before the end would come.
Time... he looked upwards and shouted, "HELP ME!!!"

It was within the blink of an eye that his location had changed.
Angel looked around and saw the figure of the being responsible.
"I see that you now understand what it is I spoke of during our
last meeting."
"I do... please, you have to help me. She's dying."
"No, I do not 'have' to help you, but I will. You know what it is
that you must do."
"But..."
"Do not question me. It is the only way, Angel. Fear not, for I
will make sure that all is well. I have stopped time, but be warned.
When time begins, there is no room for hesitation. Do you understand
what I am saying?"
"Yes."
"Then this conversation is over. You will go."

Angel was once again by Willow's side, and within a few seconds
her chest began to move with her shallow breathing. He looked up at
the others, and in a pleading tone said, "Trust me. If you don't, we
will lose her." He then bent down over the still form and sank his
teeth into her neck.
"What he is doing, it is the only way." Jirronh said sadly. "This
is for you. I no longer have need for it." he said as he held up the
blood-stained dagger to Giles. "There is no need to fear, you will
have your friend back."
"Yes," replied Giles, "But at what cost?"

~Part: 39~

Willow remained unconcious as Angel reassured his friends, who
were worried that she was to far gone to be transformed into a
creature of the night. Her heart had stopped beating, and her chest
would no longer rise and fall for breath.
"Jirronh, please?" Xander asked teary eyed. "Take us back to
Willow's house. We can at least make her more comfortable if... when
she wakes up."
"I understand. You need not say anymore." Jirronh replied as he
gave Willow one last look. "Treasure her. She is much more than you
can understand. One day you will see this, and know." he finished,
and with a wave of his hand they found themselves, once again, in her
livingroom. Giles leaned down and helped Angel place a motionless
Willow onto the couch.
"So, how long do we have to wait until..." Buffy let the question
trail off as she glanced at her friend, who's skin had turned deathly
pale.
"Only until the sun goes down." Angel said and looked at the
clock sitting on the mantel. "Another hour and a half to go."

Willow was having the most fantastic dream of her life. She
remembered telling Angel that she loved him, then the next thing she
knew, she was floating above everyone. Angel was bent over her still
form, but from above she couldn't tell what he was doing. She guessed
that he was crying, much like her friends... all except for Giles and
Jirronh. Giles looked to be in some sort of shock, he just stood
there, watching her unmoving frame laying upon the rocky floor. She
felt a pang of sorrow in her chest as she watched her friends
mourning her death. She continued to watch them below as she was
pulled slowly upwards, until everything disappeared. She didn't know
exactly where she was going, but decided to take being
pulled 'upwards' as a good sign.
Excitement began to take the place of her sorrow as she floated
into a bright light, blindingly white. She had to close her eyes from
the pure intensity of it, then, oddly, her feet touched something
unexpected... a floor. She slowly opened her eyes and discovered
herself in a large white room, and as she looked around, her eyes
came to rest on a white pedastal with an antique mantal clock perched
upon it. Heaven was not quite what she'd expected it to be.
"No, my dear. This is not, what you call, Heaven." Willow looked
in the direction of the voice to find a blue-skinned man walking
towards her. "You are safe here, no harm will come to you."
"Sorry if I have a hard time believing that. I've heard that line
one too many times lately." she said cinically.
"I understand. But you must know, your destiny has not been
fulfilled."
"What destiny?"
"It is for you to discover. Suffice it to say... you left too
soon."
"What are you talking..."
"It is time for you to go. Your sun is setting."

Willow felt a coldness sinking deep into her bones, but it was an
odd feeling, not something she'd ever felt before. And hunger. She
was starving, desperately so. Her eyes fluttered open, revealing to
yellow orbs where emerald green one's used to be, looking around
curiously at her surroundings. Her friends were there with a look of,
what is it? Relief? Confusion struck her as she moved her eyes to
Angel who was sitting on the edge of the couch beside her, rolling up
his sleeve.
"I'm hungry... need to eat now." was all she managed to say as
Angel moved his arm and suspended it above her face. With his other
hand, he moved it to his wrist and sank a fingernail deeply into the
skin, causing a stream of blood to flow. Without hesitation, Willow
grabbed the arm offered to her and drank hungrily. After a few
moments Angel pulled his arm away and replied, "That should hold you
for now."
"Are you sure about that? I could still go for a little snack."
she said, looking pointedly at each member of the group in the room,
and smiled, "It won't hurt... much." and laughter rang out, eerily
echoing in everyone's ears. Suddenly Willow's body stiffened, and as
she lay ridgidly on the couch, her eyes began to glow intensely
white. It only lasted a few seconds when the light faded, revealing
the emerald green pools, blinking as if she had just awaken from a
deep slumber. The red head looked around curiously.
"What? What's going on? Oh no, who died?"

~Part: 40~

Angel kept his arms securely wrapped around Willow as they lay
together, not wanting to let her go. He was still in awe as he looked
upon his red head, happiness was something he still needed to get
used to. For the past month, not a night went by without his thoughts
going over the events that had brought them togethter. Even
the 'Powers that Be' was true to his word... for right after Willow
had her first feed from Angel's blood, the 'man upstairs' gave her
her soul and bound it to her forever. With both expressing their love
for each other, they finally knew what true happiness was for the
first time in they're lives.
They had made love to each other almost every night since,
revelling in the closeness they now shared, and an unbreakbale bond
of sire and childe. They would be together forever, and that alone
was of a huge comfort to Angel as he held her close to him.

"So, do you ever have the urge to... wow, this is so wierd."
Buffy said as she looked at her best friend drinking a cup of warm
blood.
"Urge to what?"
"Well, uh. Drink from a, ahem, human?"
"Nope. Never had it, never tasted it. Can't miss what you've
never had." Willow replied, hoping to put her friends mind at ease.
"Does your face always change when your eating?"
"Yeah, I haven't quite mastered that control yet."
"Its just so odd seeing you like this. I mean, talk about your
Deja Vu. Remember when your vampire double was here a few years ago?
And now, its kinda like that... except without the killing thing
happening."
"Yeah, I remember." Willow said as she got up and rinsed out her
empty cup in Buffy's sink. When she turned around and sat with her
friend once more, her face had changed back to that of the girl they
all knew... but someshat paler by comparison. "I still find it a
little freaky looking in a mirror and not seeing anyone, just what's
behind me on the wall. Weirdsville." and both girls laughed.
"So how are you and Angel working out? Don't worry, it's girl
talk... I'm not poking for info." Buffy said, reassuring Willow.
"Actually, things are perfect. Buffy, I'm the happiest I've ever
been, and I'm pretty sure he is too. I love him with all of my
unbeating heart." She said, thanking the goddess that she couldn't
blush anymore.
"I'm happy for you, Will, both of you. Really. I think you two
are good for each other." Buffy said, and Willow smiled back warmly,
glad that she and Buffy were close once more, something she had
missed having when her life got turned upside down.
"So, how are my two favourite girls in the world doing tonight?"
Angel asked as he walked into the kitchen, putting an arm around
Willow's shoulders and kissing her cheek. "Can anyone join in your
conversation? What are you talking about?"
"Oh, this and that. Make-up tips, sex... you know, girly stuff."
Buffy answered with a smirk as she and Willow watched Angel squirm a
little.
"Oh."
"Actually, to let you off the hook, I was telling Will how happy
I was for the both of you."
"Thank-you, Buffy. That means a lot to me... to us." he said,
giving Willow's shoulders a tender squeeze.
"Go figure... I'm sitting here with the only two vampires in the
world with souls." The blonde said, shaking her head.
Just then, the door burst open and in walked Spike.
"Make that three." he said, "'Ello Angel, Red... or should I
say, 'Mum'?"

The End
