~Part: 1~

Angel sat at Spike's bedside holding her hand as he patiently waited for her to arise from her deep sleep. He knew she would be confused when she regained consciousness. He hoped their bond was re- established after sharing his blood with her. Angel stroked her petite hand as he watched her sleep peacefully.

Angel felt her twitch and suddenly Spike sat up in bed gasping. Her eyes darted across the room attempting to recognize her surroundings. She looked at Angel who was still holding her hand.

"Spike, it's okay. We are in my room. See? Shh...calm down baby, it's okay." Spike's breathing slowed down as she perused the room. Angel wiped droplets of sweat that had accumulated on her brow.

"Sire?" Spike spoke quietly as she gazed at Angel. She noticed that she was now in his room. Her brain was muddled as she struggled to recall recent events. As those memories slowly returned, her cerulean eyes widened. She looked upon her wrists and noticed they were wrapped in gauze. She slowly looked upon her Sire.

"Angel? I'm sorry..." Tears rushed from her mournful eyes.

Angel gently touched her face. "No, honey. There is nothing for you to be sorry about." He lifted her chin as she attempted to avert her eyes away. "Listen to me. I am the one who should be sorry. I left you on your own. I didn't push hard enough for you to talk to me. Spike," Angel sighed and looked down for a moment, "I almost lost you." Tears fell from the eyes of the dark vampire. "I don't think I could bear it. I wish I could make you see how much I love you. You are so important to me. I know I am not always the best at conveying my emotions. If I had lost you..." Angel voice choked with emotion.

"How long did I sleep?" She asked with wide-eyed innocence.

"Two and a half days." Angel answered as he continued to stroke Spike's hand.

"I feel you...inside me." Spike whispered as she gazed into Angel's eyes. "I know you love me. I feel your regret and your pain and your loneliness because I felt those things too. I know you are sorry about our past. I can see why, with your soul, you made certain choices. I want to believe you so much, Angel; but it scares me. I want you in my unlife, but I always seem to be the one who gets hurt. I can't bear it if you leave me or worse..." She briefly thought of Angelus' reappearance in Sunnydale.

"I know. I can't promise you I won't do some stupid things; but I will never leave you again. I would rather be dust. " He said sadly as his eyes glistened. He caressed her cheek. "When I said a few months ago that I wanted to start anew, I meant it. I want you in my unlife, Spike. I want you to fight by my side; I want us to be able to trust each other and share everything. And I want to touch you, worship you, and make love to you..." Spike lowered her head as he spoke.

"Spike. Honey. I would not force you to do anything that you were not ready for." Angel spoke with conviction.

"I know, Angel." Fresh tears pored from her eyes. "It's just..." Her voiced trailed off.

"Talk to me, please." Angel pleaded.

Spike brushed her long hair from her eyes as she lifted her head to speak to her Sire. "After what happened to me..." She paused for a moment. "Why would you want to be with me? I'm tainted and damaged. How can you even look at me?" She started sobbing. Angel embraced her tightly as he stroked her long honey blonde locks.

"Why would you think that? You are so beautiful and desirable and utterly amazing." Spike attempted to turn away as he relaxed his embrace. "Please don't turn away, baby. I don't want you to be embarrassed. We will take our time. We still need to deal with what happened in Sunnydale. But, I need you to realize that I am here to support you all the way. I want to build a new life with you...if you will have me. I am yours." Angel smiled warmly at his beautiful Childe.

"And I am yours...I need you, Angel...I love you." She smiled as she looked into the angelic face of her Sire.

"I love you too." Angel whispered as he slowly leaned towards his beautiful Childe and gently kissed her. He was ecstatic as he felt her cool soft lips melt into his. The two vampires reveled in the feeling that after so many years apart, after all the pain and the hurt, they were one.

~Part: 2~

Cordelia, Gunn, and Wesley stood in the lobby quietly discussing Spike's condition.

"Did Angel tell you guys anything? He said Spike will be okay but didn't give details." Cordelia asked.

"He is being rather secretive."

"Hey, as long as she's fine, I'm okay with it." Gunn added as he practised swinging his broadsword.

"I know, but she lost so much blood. Even that's bad for a vampire, right Wesley?"

"Indeed. I am sure Angel will tell us what transpired in his own time." Wesley said as walked towards the library.

Angel kept Spike in his arms for an eternity. He gently grasped her shoulders so he could face her. "Why don't we go downstairs and feed. Are you hungry?"

"A little." Spike warmly smiled. Angel brushed a stray strand of hair from her eye and leaned in and kissed her forehead. They sat for a few moments staring into each other's eyes.

"You are so beautiful."

"You are turning into such a poof!" She gently teased. "Next thing you know, you'll write me love poems!" Spike chuckled.

"I'll leave the bad poetry to you, Spike." He laughed as Spike acted hurt and pouted. "Do you know what you do to me when you pout like that? It's very sexy."

Spike turned her head away slightly as she grinned at her sire. "I should get changed before going downstairs."

"Do you need help?"

"I think I'll be fine. But would you wait to go down with me? I feel a bit wobbly." Spike answered as she stood.

"Sure." Angel sat back on the bed as he watched the female vampire walk into the bathroom and close the door. He smiled as he thought to himself, 'mine.' Angel sighed as a feeling of contentment washed over his body.

Thirty minutes later, Spike was freshly showered and ready to leave the room. Angel sensed her nerves building. Since they re-established their bond, his ability to feel her emotions had heightened.

"What's wrong?" He asked as she stood in front of the door.

Spike turned to face the dark vampire. "Do they know what happened?"

"Yes. They saw you in the bathroom. They are so worried about you, Spike. We should go down so that they can see you are okay. Ready?" Her petite hand grabbed on to his as they walked slowly to the stairs. They carefully descended the grand staircase. As they reached the bottom, the three humans smiled.

"Hey Blondie!" Cordelia ran up to her friend and embraced her. "I was so worried! Don't ever do that again!" She smiled brightly.

"Sorry, pet." Spike answered as her eyes glistened.

"We are happy you recovered, Spike." Wesley hugged the blonde vampire, followed by Gunn.

"Glad you're okay!" Gunn smiled.

"Ta. I feel better; I'm just a little weak and tired." Spike explained to her friends. "I'll be fine soon enough."  Angel helped her as she reached out to sit on the couch. Walking downstairs took some strength from her.  "So, don't have too many visions, Cordy. I don't want to miss too many fights."

Angel sat next to her after he brought back two mugs of blood from the kitchen. The three humans could sense a change in the relationship between the two vampires and they all exchanged looks and smiled.

After some time, Spike appeared fatigued.  "I j-just wanted to tell you guys that I appreciate you all very much. Thank you for everything." She looked at her Sire. "I'm going to go back upstairs to lay down."

"Do you want me to walk you up?" Angel asked.

"No, I'll be okay. You can stay down here and chitchat." Angel smiled as she walked away.

When Spike disappeared up the stairs, Cordelia turned to Angel. "Okay, mister. What gives? I am so relieved that she is okay, but how did you do it?"

"Cordelia..." Wesley warned her.

"Cordy, the point is that she is fine. It's kind of private."

"Fine!" Cordelia threw her hands up in the air. "Well, at least you guys are finally together."

"What?" Angel eyes were wide in shock. "How did you..."

"Come on, Angel. Woman's intuition." Cordelia flashed a grand smile and winked at the dark vampire.

"Good for you, man!"

"Cheers!" Wesley added with a bright smile.

"Well, we are going to take it slow and see how things work out. But, I am hopeful." Angel beamed.

"Wow!" Cordelia exclaimed. "I didn't realize you have teeth, oh broody one!"  The entire group laughed, even Angel.

"Um, Um. I hope I am not interrupting." The voice came from across lobby. The group had not heard anyone come through the door. They turned to see Giles standing in front of the entrance glaring at Angel.

~Part: 3~

"Rupert." Angel stood as the ex-watcher walked over to the group.

"Angel." He answered as he deposited his suitcase on the ground. "How are you, Wesley?" Giles strode up to his ex-colleague and shook his hand.

"Mr. Giles; how nice to see you again." Wesley turned towards Gunn. "This is Charles Gunn, an associate." Giles nodded as he shook Gunn's hand.

"Hello, Cordelia."

"Hi, Giles!" The brunette seer smiled as they embraced.

Giles turned his attention back to Angel. "How is she?"

"She is better. She is resting upstairs right now."

Giles sighed in relief. He appeared worn after his journey.

"Giles, I could show you to a room so you could rest." Angel gestured towards the staircase.

"Actually, I would like to talk to you. In private." Giles turned to the group and politely smiled.

"Sure," Angel replied as his eyes squinted, "why don't we go to my office."

The three humans took the hint and left the lobby. They sensed a battle of wills emerging.

After Angel closed the door to his office, he offered a seat to the ex-watcher. "Would you like anything to drink?"

"No, thank you." Giles paused and appeared to be deep in thought. He hesitated as he began to speak. "A-Angel, I would like to know what has been occurring here. I was very distressed after receiving Spike's phone call. She sounded extremely desperate and unhappy."

Angel wanted to keep a reign on his emotions. "Her recovery has not been easy, Rupert. She is still dealing with her rape and her fear of humans. It took us some time to convince her to even leave the hotel. She is close with Cordy, Gunn, and Wesley, which has been helpful. She is a good researcher and has started fighting again. The road has been slow."

"I see. What transpired the other day?" Giles felt he did not have the entire story.

"On the surface, she improved; but ultimately, she needed outside help. I took her to a Demon Psychologist and for the first time, she discussed her ordeal." Angel looked away for a moment as the memory of what she endured flashed through his head. As he turned back towards Giles, the ex-watcher noticed the glistening eyes of the dark vampire.

"She made an important first step by discussing the rape, but she went into a tailspin afterward. The psychologist said that was not unusual."

"Is that when she phoned me?" Giles eyes were saddened.

"Yes. She...She attempted to end her life." Angel lowered his head. "But she has recovered, at least, from that."

Giles stared at the dark vampire for a time. He still did not trust him. He understood the mission Angel had as a vampire with a soul. When he looks at Angel, though, all he can see is the vampire that hurt Buffy and killed his beloved Jenny. He did not want Spike to suffer a similar fate.

"What happened?"

"You can ask her to explain things to you." Angel answered as he clenched his jaw.

" Very well then. Y-You mention that Spike is close to your friends here." Giles paused as he removed his glasses. "What about you two, Angel? Are you close again as you wanted?"

"I don't really think it's your business to ask, Rupert." Angel eyes flashed yellow for a moment as his voice rose. "Don't overstep your boundaries, Giles. I know Spike cares for you and I will respect that. But don't ever assume to understand vampire relationships. Spike and I have a lot to work through. And we are trying." Angel hissed as his cold, brown eyes stared at the ex-watcher.

"Spike has dealt with enough; you are capable of hurting her a great deal. Despite the fact she is a vampire, she is very human in her emotions. I want to make sure she is happy. I am looking out for her best interests and I can only hope that you are doing the same." Giles sighed. "I do not want to argue with you, Angel."

Angel stood and walked around the desk. His voice was firm but he was attempting to keep his voice even to avoid an escalation of the situation. "Giles, I don't feel like I need to explain myself to you concerning my Childe. There is a lot of hurt between us and we are trying to move forward. I love her very much and that needs to be enough for you. She is very important to me and I feel blessed that she is back in my life. So, as long as you will stay under my roof, you need to respect that."

"Very well." Giles attempted a small smile as he cleaned his spectacles. He would continue to be cautious. "If your offer for a drink still stands, I would like one. And afterwards, I would like to see her."

"Follow me." Angel answered as he led Giles into the kitchen.

Spike lay in bed struggling to fall asleep. Her mind was racing as she gently touched her lips and smiled. She felt as if her heart was beating as she recalled the gentle kiss they shared. Forgiving Angel released a burden that she had carried for over one hundred years. She wanted to move forward.

Spike decided to return downstairs to be with her friends. "Angel?" She softly spoke as she noticed the lobby was empty. "Angel?" Her voice trembled slightly. Being alone was one of her greatest fears.

"Hey!" Angel exclaimed as he rushed through the kitchen door. He sensed her dismay. "I thought you were sleeping?" He asked as he embraced her.

"Couldn't sleep." She answered as she smiled into his chest.

"We have a visitor, honey. Look." Angel released her from his hug revealing Giles standing behind him.

"Giles?" The blonde vampire's eyes were wide with disbelief.  She walked over to him with tears in her eyes.

"Hello, Spike." The ex-watcher's eyes glistened as he smiled and embraced the petite vampire. He felt her tears soaking his shirt. "I am pleased you are all right. You had me so worried."

Spike looked up at Giles and sniffed. "W-When did you get here?"

"About thirty minutes ago."

"You came all this way for me?" Spike eyes shone with innocence.

"Of course." He smiled.

Angel stood back watching this interaction. His Demon was very possessive of his Childe but his human side understood that Giles was a part of Spike's life. Giles was like a father to Spike over the last few years. For her sake, he would not instigate trouble with the ex-watcher.

"I missed you, Giles." She spoke quietly as a tear rolled down her cheek.

"As did I."

Spike turned to her Sire. "Angel, why don't you show Giles to his room and then he and I can catch up? I'll bring drinks." She sensed the friction between the two. Left on their own, she was sure they would be arguing in no time. Despite this fact, she was not going to let that ruin this moment. The two most important people in her unlife were standing in front of her. She smiled as they reluctantly walked up the stairs together.

~Part: 4~

Giles heard a small knock on his bedroom door.  "Um...Just a minute." He walked towards the door as he finished buttoning his shirt and grabbing his glasses from the armoire. After such a long journey he needed to freshen up. He smiled as he saw Spike in the hallway. "Hello, Spike."

"Hi." She answered as she walked into the room. "I hope you don't mind aged Irish whiskey. I took it from Angel's stash." She grinned slyly as she placed two glasses and the bottle on the table.

Giles watched her and was amazed that certain looks she had were so similar to the old Spike. Other times, he had to remind himself this was essentially the same vampire.

Giles opened the bottle and offered a drink to Spike first. He then poured a generous portion into his glass. They sat in silence for a few minutes.

"So...Spike." Giles was nervous. This was the first real conversation in person he had with the now female vampire. They had developed a very close relationship over the last few years and had corresponded primarily by letter since his return to England. But now, he felt slightly awkward. He cared for Spike like a son and now...a daughter? It would be an adjustment.

Spike drank her whiskey and coughed. Giles proceeded to laugh as the female vampire choked. "It's not bloody funny, Giles!"

"I-I'm s-sorry!" Giles gasped as he attempted to control his laughter.

"It's not as easy drinking this stuff anymore!" Spike answered as she started to laugh. After she settled down, she added, "I guess I should just stick to girly drinks." Her voice had a hint of sadness to it.

Giles placed his drink down on the table and turned to Spike. "I'm sorry. I did not mean to poke fun at you. I can't imagine how difficult this has been for you." He looked upon her with concern.

"Yeah...well." Spike sniffed. "I've kind of gotten used to it by now... for the most part."

"Unfortunately there is very little information at the Watcher's Council about the MoyaMoya. How about here?"

"Wesley researched for a few months but didn't find anything either." Spike said as she toyed with her glass. "We went to a Demon karaoke club; it's owned by one of Angel's mates. If you sing, he can read your fortune or destiny or whatever..."

This piqued Giles' interest as he sat up straight. "D-Did you sing for the Demon?"

"Yeah." Spike looked down.

"What did he say?"

"Lorne said the Powers That Be have a plan for me."

"Who?"

"The Powers That Be. They send visions to Cordelia of people Angel needs to save." Spike turned to Giles. "You mean the Almighty Watcher's Council has never heard of them?" She smirked.

"No, I am afraid not. I must talk with Wesley later. I didn't know Cordelia was a seer." Giles appeared to be talking to himself. He looked back up at Spike and said, "Sorry.   What else did the Demon say?"

"Well..." Spike hesitated and was biting her lower lip.

"What Spike? What is it?"

"Lorne said that I-I h-have a soul." She whispered quietly.

"What?" Giles was dumbfounded but smiled widely. "H-How...when? I knew you had changed but..."

"He said that I never really lost it; my Demon held it captive. But after the chip, I had to control my Demon and I guess it became more apparent." Spike paused. "I have to atone for what I did. All those people that I..." Tears shone in her eyes.

Giles moved closer to her and placed his arm around her. "And you will. You have already started." Spike leaned into his shoulder and sighed.

Giles sensed that he should change the subject for the time being. "Angel tells me that you are quite adept with research and that you have started fighting Demons again. That's wonderful."

"Yeah."

"And you are getting along with the gang here?"

"They've been great. I was worried at first after leaving Sunnyhell."

"Of course. I had expressed the same concern but things seem to be fine." Giles hesitated before continuing. "And Angel? I-Is he treating you well?"

Spike smiled. She knew this issue would arise. "Angel has been..." she looked up as she searched for the right word, "supportive."

"Why do you not sound convincing, Spike?"

Spike stood up and paced. "Giles, it's very complicated. You know how much he has hurt me. I don't know if he expected me to fall into his arms like bloody Scarlet O'Hare or something like that. But, it hasn't been easy, you know? It took me some time to even trust him again. Since I arrived here, he has tried to help me; even when I didn't want his help. I was scared to let him into my heart. I couldn't let him affect me like he did in the past. I was angry with him for so long after he abandoned me that I found it hard to see beyond that. But...he is my Sire. We are connected for eternity whether we are together or not."

She sighed as she brushed her hair away from her face. "It's been hard. It has taken time. Dealing with the..." she closed her eyes for a moment, "with what happened to me...I didn't think he could love me."

"Maybe he should be asking if you could love him after all he has done to you! What happened in Sunnydale was not your fault, Spike." Giles spoke firmly.

"Maybe it was, Giles! Maybe I deserved it. I don't know..." She walked over to the window and was silent for a time. "What I am sure of," she turned back towards Giles, "is that he loves me and I love him. I need him in my life."

"I don't want you to get hurt. Angel hurt Buffy so much and I don't want the same for you; and he is capable of harming you even more than her." Giles eyes were filled with concern as he tried to reason with her.

"I know." Spike looked down. "But, I have forgiven him. There has to be reason for all of this...We've been given a second chance." Her eyes pleaded with Giles. "I need your support. You mean the world to me. Please, Giles..." Fresh tears fell from her eyes.

Giles stood and walked over to her and embraced her as she wept.

~Part: 5~

Spike felt relieved as she left Giles' room and walked down the hall. She walked towards her bedroom and realized that she had no desire to return there. She did not want a reminder of recent events. She turned back and slowly went to Angel's room. Her hand shook as she knocked; she reminded herself that did not need to be afraid anymore.

Angel opened the door and smiled. He could sense her trepidation. "You know you don't need to knock."

"It's your room." Spike said quietly as she walked in.

"It could be ours...if you want. Or, you could pick out another room." Angel spoke shyly and grinned.

"I don't know...we can decide later." Spike was exhausted as she crashed onto the couch.

Angel sat next to her and seemed nervous when he spoke. "Everything go okay with Giles?" His eyes were wide in anticipation.

"Yeah. Don't worry, Angel. I told him about us." She sat up and scooted next to him. Her tiny hand stroked his cheek. "I told him that I love you and that we've been given a second chance." Her smile warmed Angel's heart.

Angel leaned in and cupped her beautiful face in his hands and gently placed kisses on her forehead and then her nose. "Gods, I love you so much." Angel said in a breathy tone. He left a trail of kisses on her neck as he felt her shudder beneath him.

"Angel..." She whispered as she enjoyed the sensation of Angel nibbling her neck.

He looked into her beautiful eyes and then gently grabbed her tiny waist and slid her into his lap. He was desperate to be closer to her. He captured her lips in a passionate kiss. Angel moaned as he felt Spike deepening their contact. They broke apart both gasping for unneeded breath. They sat with their foreheads touching.

"Stay with me tonight." Angel said as his breathing slowed.

"O-Okay...but..." Spike looked away.

"Honey, look at me." Angel tilted her chin up. "We will take this very slow. I promise. You don't need to be afraid anymore. I just want to hold you."

Spike nodded in agreement as her anxiety subsided. Angel stood up from the couch still cradling his Childe. "Why don't we change for bed."

"All my clothes are in my room." Spike said quietly. "I don't want to go back there." Her eyes glistened as she looked at her Sire.

"It's okay. I'll get them tomorrow. Why don't you wear these." Angel handed her a pair of boxers and a T-shirt after he set her down. She took them and went towards the bathroom to change. It would take some time for her to be fully comfortable around Angel.

As she emerged from the bathroom, Angel gasped at the beauty of his Childe. Her hair was freshly brushed and his T-shirt clung to her breasts. His boxers were too big so she rolled them over. Angel could barely control himself. For her sake, he had to try. He finished tying his pajama bottoms and then walked over to her. He slipped his arms around her waist and purred. "Mine." He whispered.

As Spike looked up at her Sire, she smirked. "You know? I'm gonna get a big crick in my neck looking up at you all the time."

"Well, I guess I have to take care of that." Angel proceeded to scoop her up in his arms and carry her to the bed. Spike squealed as she laughed.

"Now, I do feel like Scarlet O'Hare!"

"What?" Angel asked with confused eyes.

"Never mind..." Spike smiled to herself.

Angel gently laid her down on the bed as if she were his most prized possession. He slid in behind her and covered them with a blanket and comforter. He wrapped his large arms around her tiny body and pulled her close. He kissed the back of her head and muttered, "I love you."

Angel reached back and turned off the light. The two vampires quickly descended into slumber. It was the most peaceful sleep to befall them in over a century.

~Part: 6~

Angel awoke the next morning and gazed at the vision lying in his arms.  He was amazed at how beautiful his Childe was. She looked so peaceful as she slept. He brushed a strand of hair from her face and lightly stroked her defined cheekbones.  Spike's eyes slowly fluttered open.

"Hi." The female vampire whispered in a raspy morning voice.

"Hi." Angel smiled. "Did you sleep well?"

"Uh Uh. Like a baby!" She answered with a big smile. Spike repositioned herself and placed her head on Angel's strong, broad chest. "What are we going to do today?"

"Well, I am going to run downstairs and get blood for us." Angel leaned over and kissed her on the forehead before rolling out of bed.

"Breakfast in bed, eh?" Spike smirked but then pouted at the sudden separation from her Sire. Angel walked over to the dresser and took out a shirt. He placed it slowly over his taut muscles when he realized Spike watched him intently. He grinned.

"You could spend some time with Giles. Wesley and I need to go to a book auction today to find a certain text." Angel replied as he styled his hair.

"I'm shocked you are able to style your poncy hair without a reflection, Angel." Spike's tone was sarcastic yet playful. She chuckled as she sat up in bed.

"My hair is not poncy, Spike." He grew flustered as he reached for his hair gel. Even when teasing, Spike could always get under his skin. "And how long did you have your 'do, Captain Peroxide? If you had a reflection, you might have changed it sooner. At least your hair color now is natural." Angel smiled initially and then realized what he said as he turned back to face Spike. He noted tears in her eyes as she stared across the room stroking her hair. "Spike?" He grew concerned as she failed to answer him. Angel walked to the edge of the bed and sat. "Sweetheart, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that." He gently stroked her cheek.

Tears streamed down her face as she absently twirled her hair in her little fingers. Angel continued, "Please, baby, speak to me."

She turned towards him and spoke with a quiet tone. "I-I don't even know what I look like..." She placed her head in her hands and sobbed. Angel took her in his arms as she cried.

"You were beautiful when I made you and you are just as beautiful now. Your hair is the color of honey and your eyes are as blue as the sky. You still have the most beautiful cheekbones and your lips are full and luscious." Angel felt her tears subside. "I'm sorry, honey."

"I know..." Spike whispered against his chest. "I don't really talk about this much." She leaned up to face him. "It's like...I don't know who I am sometimes. I know I am not the old me because I kinda feel different. But at least I knew who I was before I was turned...what I looked like. Like this..." Her eyes traveled down her body. "I keep telling myself that this happened for a reason. But, sometimes...I just don't bloody understand!"  Her tears returned. "And then..." She started to speak but deliberately stopped.

"What Spike? You were going to say something." Angel was concerned as he stared at her.

"Was nothing." Spike lowered her head.

"You can talk to me, baby. It's okay. Nothing will change between us."

She sat silent for a time. "If this hadn't happened, would we be here together? Would you still want me?" Her eyes reflected the pain and hurt of the lifetime spent without her Sire.

"I love you, Spike. That is all that matters. We can't reflect on 'what ifs', sweetheart. What ever has happened has brought us to this place. I know it's hard for you and it has been an adjustment. But, I am so proud of you. To see you persevere against it all is truly miraculous. I know I have hurt you so much in the past. To get the opportunity to earn your forgiveness is a gift and I am grateful." Angel gently kissed her forehead.

"I am here for you. You can talk to me about anything." Angel squeezed her hand to reassure the blonde vampire.

"I know." Spike sighed.

"How about I get that blood?" Angel stood from the bed and walked towards the door.

Spike nodded yes and she lay back down in the bed staring at the ceiling. Angel watched her for a moment with concern and then closed the door.

~Part: 7~

As Angel walked though the kitchen doors, his friends met him with smiles. "Good morning."

"Hi, Angel." Cordelia responded as she sipped her coffee. "There's blood on the counter for you."

"Thanks. I'm glad everyone is here. There is something I want to discuss." Angel was about to proceed as Giles walked into the kitchen. "Rupert." Angel nodded politely.

"H-Hello, everyone." He surveyed the room and noted the absence of Spike. "Is Spike okay this morning?"

"She's still tired. I actually needed to talk with everyone about something."

"Oh, well I am sorry to interrupt." Giles turned to leave the room.

"No, Giles. Please stay. You could help with this as well. Please take a seat." Angel gestured to an empty chair.

"Would you like some tea, Mr. Giles?" Wesley asked as he stood near the stove.

"Thank you, Wesley. And please call me Giles." The ex-Watchers smiled at each other.

"So, what's up, man?" Gunn asked

"Well," the dark vampire started, "Spike's Birthday is in 3 days and I thought we could throw a party for her."

"Birthday?" Cordelia snickered. "I didn't know vampires celebrate Birthdays."

"Most vampires don't." Angel explained. "Actually, most celebrate their Deathday." All eyes stared at Angel with confusion. "It represents the day one crosses over, becomes immortal."

"You mean the day you get murdered by a vamp?" Gunn asked.

"Well...I guess if you put it simply. The day you rise as a vampire is considered your Deathday. For most, it is a cause for celebration." Angel took a seat.

"So, why do you want to celebrate Spike's Birthday?" Cordelia asked still attempting to understand.

Angel stared as a wistful look fell upon his face. He smiled as he reminisced. "From the moment William arose, he clung to his humanity. William refused to celebrate his Deathday. He said it was too depressing, even though he loved being a vampire. I, er, Angelus tried to break him of the habit. But, every year, he reminded us it was his Birthday. Spike is such a unique vampire. So, for twenty years, I helped him celebrate."

"What happened after twenty years, man?" Gunn was puzzled.

Giles looked up as he saw the pained appearance overtake the face of the dark vampire. "Angel was cursed with his soul." He explained quietly.

"I left my family after I was cursed. I couldn't deal with what I was and what I had done, especially to William." Angel eyes watered. He shook his head to banish the memory from his mind. "Anyway, I don't want to rehash the past. I want to have a party for her. We could do it here." Angel smiled as looked at everyone.

"I believe that is a splendid idea." Giles responded. "Perhaps, I should see if the group in Sunnydale would like to make the journey for the soiree."

Angel shook in head in agreement. "Spike hasn't seen them since she arrived here. I think she would enjoy that."

"We could talk to Lorne to discuss music and decorations." Wesley added.

"I'll take care of food." Cordelia said and then she stood suddenly. "Oh! We should make it a surprise party!" She jumped up and down clapping her hands.

"I don't know...I don't want to frighten her." Angel stated with some hesitation.

"Come on, man!" Gunn patted his shoulder.

"Blondie is not that fragile, Angel." Cordelia smirked. "But, hey, we can tell her the Scoobies are coming to visit her and Giles; but we won't tell her about the party." Cordelia grasped her hands while her eyes pleaded with Angel.

"Fine." Angel acquiesced as he turned towards Giles. "Could you call them, Rupert?"

"Very well. I will let you know shortly." The ex-Watcher stood while cleaning his glasses.

"Thanks. There is a phone in the lobby." Giles exited the kitchen to call Sunnydale.

"This is a great idea, Angel. Blondie will love it!"

"You just like parties, Cordy." Angel grinned mockingly.

"Well, duh! But, it is also for my friend. We'll need a cake...and oh... presents...lots of presents!" Cordelia paced the room with fervor and excitement. "You better get her something nice, Angel."

Angel face looked clueless. "I have to get her a present?"

"Are you that stupid or just male?" Cordelia exclaimed as she stared astonished at the utter stupidity of the dark vampire. "She's your girlfriend!" She relaxed her posture as Angel erupted into laughter.

"Of course, I'm getting her a present." Angel grinned slyly as his laughter died down...

"Do you know what yet?" Gunn asked.

"Kind of." Angel answered.

"Well?" Cordelia waited eagerly in anticipation.

"I'm not telling, guys."

"Well, where's the fun in that?" Cordelia pouted and crossed her arms.

"How will we keep Spike distracted so she will be left unaware of the party?" Wesley asked.

"I'll come up with something." Angel looked pensive. "We have a few days to work out the details."

Giles returned to the kitchen. "I discussed the plans with Buffy. She and Dawn will be here tomorrow. Likely, the others will be able to come as well."

"Well, I finally get to meet the infamous Scooby gang, huh?" Gunn said with a light tone.

"I'll give you the low-down later." Cordelia leaned in and whispered in his ear.

"Okay, so Cordy will take care of food and decorations. Gunn and Wes can you contact Lorne and get some ideas on about music etc.? Giles, can you make sure that the Scoobies know that it is a surprise?" Angel stood assigning work as the others stared at him.

"And what about you Oh captain, my captain? What are you going to do?" Cordelia looked slightly annoyed.

"I'll help, of course. But I have the hardest job. I have to make sure 'my girlfriend' doesn't find out!" Angel had a self-satisfied grin on his face as he grabbed a mug.

The group laughed as they exited the kitchen.

~Part: 8~

When Angel returned to the bedroom, he noticed Spike has fallen back asleep. He smiled as he walked over to the bed and placed a blanket over her. He placed the mug filled with blood in the small refrigerator in the kitchenette. He sighed as he watched her beautiful face.

Angel turned and proceeded to the bathroom for a quick shower. As he dressed later, he noticed Spike was awake. "Hi, sleepyhead."

"Hi. I didn't realize I fell asleep." The blonde vampire smiled.

"You're tired. Um...listen." Angel turned to Spike as he buttoned his shirt. "I'll be gone most of the day, but I'd like to spend some time alone tonight. Is that okay?"  His voice was a bit unsteady.

Spike watched her Sire and thought he was so sweet when he sounded nervous. "Sure. Are we going somewhere?"

"Maybe...I haven't really decided. I just want to be alone with you." He smiled as he kissed her forehead.

"Giles called Sunnydale this morning to inform them that he is here in LA." Angel said casually as he looped his belt through his pants. He realized he had Spike's attention. "They asked if it was okay to come for a visit to see you and Giles."

"Really?" Spike sat up in bed.

"Well, Giles told them he wanted to stay here for awhile with you, so it seemed pretty logical. Plus they haven't seen you in so long."

"That might be nice...I-It's been awhile." Spike smiled and felt warmed that she had friends in Sunnydale as well.

"The gang will be here tomorrow." Angel smiled as he walked back over to Spike. He leaned down and kissed her gently. "I'll be back later, okay?"

"Okay." Spike wrapped herself back in her blanket and felt so warm and comforted. 'I wonder what we are going to do tonight?' It didn't matter to her as long as she was with Angel. As she lay there, her excitement was replaced with a feeling of nervousness. She shook off the feeling for the time being.

Later that day, Spike walked downstairs to look for Giles. She found him in Wesley's office reading. "Hi, Giles."

The ex-Watcher stood up from his chair. "Hello, Spike. How are you this morning?"

"Fine. Whatcha doin'?" She grinned as she plopped onto the couch.

"W-Wesley and I were discussing your 'change' this morning. Instead of focusing on the Demon, we thought to examine some prophecies. Wesley has quite the collection. This particular text contains the Kalliekrein Prophecy. "

Spike's face seemed sad. "Look, Giles. I have to accept what happened to me. Why would it be some bloody prophecy? Leave well enough alone! I need to move on. Please."

"I-I do not mean to upset you, Spike. I only want to help." He walked over to her and embraced her briefly and then sat beside her.

"I know." Spike looked down and changed the subject. "Angel told me that the Slayer and gang are coming tomorrow."

"Indeed." Giles nodded. "I hope you do not mind that we informed you after plans were made."

"It's okay. I'm actually a bit excited but..." Her voice trailed off.

"But, what, Spike?" Giles looked upon her with concern.

"I'm excited but a little scared too." Giles did not respond so she could continue. "I'm different now..."

"Spike what is it really?"

"I feel guilty... I should be happy to see my friends but I'm concerned about Buffy." Spike said as she looked up at Giles.

"Buffy? Why?" The ex-Watcher removed his glasses, as his eyes appeared confused. As he watched Spike's face for a moment, he understood. "Oh... Spike, what Angel and Buffy had was over a long time ago." His voice was gentle.

"I know." The blonde vampire whispered. "Is he even going to tell her about us? I don't want to be a bloody secret. Angelus hid his feelings for me from Darla. I can't bear going through that again." Her eyes watered.

"Have you told Angel this, Spike?" She shook her head no. "Eventually, you must face Buffy, Spike. You two are friends. She will understand the bond you and Angel have. Their relationship was doomed from the start; she knows it is over. Remember she is coming to visit you, Spike. So, don't fret. Okay?"

"Okay." Spike answered feeling reassured for the moment. "Thanks. I'll leave you to your reading."

"Goodbye." Giles smiled as he watched her leave. 'So sensitive she is,' he thought as he returned to his reading. At times, he was amazed Spike was a vampire.

As Spike traversed the lobby toward the kitchen, Cordelia stopped her.

"Where are you going, Blondie?"

"The kitchen for some lunch. Wanna join me?"

"Sure." The two walked together. Spike opened the refrigerator door and pulled out a blood bag.

"Pet?" The blonde vampire turned to her brunette friend. "Can I ask you a question?"

"Shoot!" She answered as she rummaged through the cabinets for some peanut butter.

"U-Um, w-well..." Spike suddenly seemed to develop a stutter.

"Come on, Spike. Spit it out." Cordelia smiled.

"W-Well, Angel told me this morning that he wanted to be alone with me tonight...that we might go somewhere."

"Oh my God!" Cordelia exclaimed as her grin widened. "He asked you out on a date! That is so sweet."

"A date...no." Spike looked confused for a moment. "Really? You think?" She managed a smile. "We're vampires. I don't think we 'date'."

"Heck yeah! It sounds like one to me. Did he say where?"

"No." Spike replied. She had a dreamy look on her face.

"What are you going to wear?"

"W-What?" Spike snapped to reality. "Wear? What do you mean?" Again a look of confusion swept across her chiseled face.

"Well, there's hair, makeup, and what clothes to wear. Are you going to wear an outfit that makes his eyeballs pop out? Oh, we are going to have soooo much fun today getting you prepped." Cordelia walked over to her and dragged her by the arm. "We have lots of work to do. Let's go." The two females stumbled out of the kitchen to venture upstairs.

~Part: 9~

The car ride home from the book auction was silent. Wesley and Angel enjoyed the warm California wind blowing through their hair. It was an amiable quiet.

"Wes. I need a favor." The dark vampire spoke as he turned slightly to his right.

"Sure, Angel."

"Could you do something with Giles tonight? Keep him occupied?"

Wesley looked at Angel with uncertain eyes as he heard the strange request. "That would not be a problem. But, may I ask for what reason?"

"W-Well. I wanted to spend some time with Spike tonight. Maybe, go out for awhile." Angel did not make eye contact.

Wesley grinned. "I see. You are taking Spike out for a date then." He enjoyed watching Angel squirm in the driver's seat.

"A date? No. We're vampires. We don't date. I just want to be alone with her." Angel felt his face turn a crimson shade.

"Well, Spike grew up in Victorian times; so I believe the word would be 'courting'. Yes?" Wesley was having too much fun with this. Angel practically growled at him.

"Will you help out or what, Wes?" Angel's knuckles were nearly white as he gripped the steering wheel tightly.

"Of course, Angel." He chuckled to himself. "Where are you taking her?"

"There's a nice restaurant near the hotel. There are no mirrors in the dining room, so that's a bonus." Angel's stomach was in knots anticipating the evening.

"I am happy for you. Enjoy yourself." Wesley patted Angel's shoulder and then returned his eyes to the road.

"Thanks, Wes."

*

"Bloody hell!" Spike paced across the seer's room as she threw her arms up in the air. "For the last time, Cordelia, I WILL NOT WEAR A FUCKIN' DRESS!"

"Come on, Spike. You'll look so hot! You've got a great bod; show it off. Angel will just die." Cordelia pleaded with the female vampire as she followed her around with a black mini dress.

"Maybe I just won't go at all!" Spike huffed and sat down with her arms crossed and a pouting face.

"Okay, you big baby!" The brunette sighed as she conceded defeat. "Try these pants with this shirt." Cordelia handed Spike some garments.

Spike reluctantly took them and went to the bathroom to change. 'Ah, leather pants' she thought. At least that was familiar to her. Spike could not believe how much time she was spending with Cordelia to prepare for the night. A smile crept across her face as butterflies fluttered in her stomach. She could not wait to see Angel tonight. She looked down at the outfit: black leather pants coupled with a sleeveless red fitted shirt.  Spike held some ties in her hand but was not sure what to do with them. The shirt did not seem to fit correctly.

"Cordelia," she whined, "What do I do with these friggin' things?"

"Such language from a lady, Spike." Cordelia laughed as she entered the bathroom. "That will tie around the back." She demonstrated. "See? Hello, cleavage." She stood back to admire her work. "You look great. Now, onto makeup and hair."

*

Angel entered the hotel and immediately darted up the stairs. He wanted to shower and change. Angel was distracted and nearly crashed into Cordelia.

"Whoa, mister! Watch where you're going." Cordelia teased. "Are you late for a date or something?" She evilly grinned.

"Cordy..." Angel warned.

"What?" She batted her eyes innocently. "Okay, Spike told me you are taking her out tonight. She almost flipped when I called it a date."

"That's because I just want to spend time with her." Angel's frustration was rising again. 'Maybe I should rethink the whole living with humans thing' he thought as he briefly stared at the ceiling.

"Well, hurry up and shower. You kind of stink!" Cordelia swatted at her nose.

Angel eyes were wide; he was mortified at such an accusation and sniffed his armpits.

"Gotcha!" The seer laughed at her own joke. "Spike is almost ready. Come get her in my room." She turned and walked down towards the lobby.

As Angel washed his locks with his favourite fruity smelling shampoo, he thought about the night to come. He could barely contain his excitement. Just the thought of Spike made him hard. He turned the knob in the shower towards cold and realized he better take care of his problem himself. He knew Spike was not ready for them to be too intimate yet.

The dark vampire stood in front of his closet staring at his vast clothes collection. He wanted to pick the perfect outfit for the evening.  He decided on dark grey slacks and a black sweater. He carefully styled his hair and realized he was ready.  Ready for his 'date' with Spike. He chuckled to himself.

*

"Oh Spike, you look fantastic!" Cordelia exclaimed with tears in her eyes as she looked at the final product. The female vampire looked amazing in her simple black leather pants and crimson shirt. The shirt itself was short but did not reveal her toned belly. She wore chunky black shoes with open toes. Cordelia had painted her toes a dark shade of red similar to her chemise. Even though Spike resisted, Cordelia convinced her to wear a small amount of makeup. Her lips shined with a pale gloss. Her wavy, shoulder length honey blonde hair hung freely. Cordelia preserved her natural beauty well.

"I told Angel to come get you here. You ready?" She smiled at her friend.

"Don't make such a big deal about this Cordelia. It's not like Angel and I have never spent an evening together." Spike was restless and trying to blow off the situation.

"Um, first of all that was along time ago; and you actually aren't going to kill anyone. Suffice it to say, this is a new experience for you both!" Spike smirked and rolled her eyes at her sarcastic remarks.

"When we walk downstairs I don't want you lot gawkin' at us okay? Can you do that for me, pet? Please?" Spike fluttered her blue eyes.

"Fine." Cordelia huffed. "We'll stay clear of the lobby. Okay, I'm going to go now. Have fun!"  Cordelia embraced her vampire friend.

"Ta. I appreciate all your help, pet."

"My pleasure, Blondie!" The seer smiled widely.

Spike sighed as Cordelia shut the door. She couldn't believe how nervous she was. 'Act like a master vampire, you idiot, and not some stupid twit on her prom night!' she thought to herself. But she could not help it; she was so excited.

*

Cordelia quickly ran to the lobby to find Gunn and Wesley. The two were talking. "Guys, we need to vacate the lobby now!"

"Why?" Gunn asked.

"I promised Spike we wouldn't stare at them when they walked down the stairs. Come on."

Gunn turned to Wesley as they stood. "Did he tell you where they were going?"

"A restaurant." Wesley answered.

"He must really love her, man. 'Cause usually he doesn't eat human food."

"I think it's romantic!" Cordelia added. "Let's go to the kitchen so we can spy from behind the door." She grinned. The three friends entered the kitchen to find Giles reading and drinking some tea.

"Hi, Giles! You're in the perfect place for the show." Cordelia voice conveyed excitement.

"Show? What do you mean?" He answered as he stood.

"Angel and Spike are going out on a date."

"Really?" Giles removed his glasses for a moment.

*

Spike turned to the door when she heard a knock. She slowly walked towards the noise and opened the door. There stood Angel holding a single long-stem red rose in his right hand. She smiled immediately and felt dizzy with happiness. She gently grasped the rose with a trembling hand and inhaled its fragrance. Neither vampire spoke initially.

The dark vampire stood in awe as his eyes looked upon his stunning Childe. Angel finally found his voice but it was very dry. "Y-You look gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful."

"Thanks." Spike whispered shyly. She blushed. "You look nice too."

"Well, um, are you ready?" Angel asked as he stood aside so she could exit the room.

"Yeah. Where are we going?" Angel's body shivered as her wide blue eyes stared at him.

"It's a surprise." Angel grinned slyly.

The two vampires descended the grand staircase. They were so caught up in each other that they did not notice that the kitchen door was slightly ajar. Three sets of eyes peeked out from behind the door.

"Children, leave them be." Giles said as he placed his glasses on.

"Sorry, Giles." The three said in unison as they returned to their seats giggling.

Suddenly Giles walked towards the door and opened it slightly. He smiled when he saw how happy Spike looked. He slowly closed the door and was met with stares.

"What?" Giles said as he walked back to the table and continued to read.

Angel grabbed his duster from the banister and pushed the door open for Spike.

"Such a gentleman." Spike teased.

"Anything for my girl." Angel smiled as he reached out to hold her hand. He brought her petite hand to his mouth and kissed it gently. The two walked slowly to the car.

~Part: 10~

"Angel, where are we going?" The younger vampire asked as she sat restless with excitement in the passenger seat.

Angel smiled and answered, "We're almost there." He laughed to himself how child like Spike could be at times. Her joy was infectious.

Angel pulled up to the valet at the restaurant. A young man opened Spike's door and gestured for her to exit the car. "Ma'am."

Spike smirked at the valet as she exited the car. Angel took the ticket from the young boy and grabbed Spike's hand. He sensed some nerves building from his Childe as they walked towards the entrance. "Honey. Are you okay?" He said as he leaned down to whisper in her ear.

"We're at a human restaurant?" She answered with a slight tremble.

"You'll be okay, baby. I'm here. You do not need to be afraid. Okay?" He smiled warmly and kissed her.

"You're right." She sighed. "I'm being blood silly, aren't I?" She managed a small smile. Spike knew Angel would not allow anything or anyone to harm her. "Let's go."

The two vampires walked into the restaurant. The front room décor consisted of warm colors, large velvety chairs and beautiful curtains. It was similar to Old World European style. The lights were dim as many candles flickered throughout the room.

Spike held Angel's hand tightly as they slowly walked to the Maitre D'.

"Welcome. May I have your name please?" An older gentleman in a very distinguished tuxedo greeted them warmly.

"O'Callaghan." Angel said quietly. Spike looked up at him in awe at hearing Angel's given surname.

"Let me see if your table is ready, sir." The Maitre D' nodded politely and walked away.

Spike smiled at her Sire as she spoke. "Angel…"

"Well, I thought reserving a table under the name Angel sounded kind of stupid." He shyly smiled as he grabbed her hand once again. "Do you like the place so far?"

"Yeah." She answered as she surveyed the rooms. "Not a lot of mirrors, eh?"

"That's one reason I picked it. Plus, I heard they, er, had good food."

"You are actually going to eat?" Spike asked with a shocked look on her face.

"I'll find something." He kissed her on the forehead.

"Right this way." The Maitre D' beckoned for the two vampires to follow him. He led them to a lavishly decorated intimate table for two in the corner near the fireplace. "Is this satisfactory for you, sir?" He asked the dark vampire as he pulled Spike's chair out.

"Yes. Thank you." Angel smiled as Spike continued to stand. "Honey…" He chuckled as Spike realized she was supposed to sit in the chair offered to her.

"Sorry." She said shyly as she sat down. "Are you pokin' fun at me?" Spike looked a bit exasperated as she talked to Angel. "That's not fair. How am I supposed to know these things?"

"I'm sorry. It was the look on your face. Sorry…forget it." Angel responded as he willed his laughter to subside. He was amazed how happy he felt around his Childe. He had laughed more in the last week than he had in a century.

Spike looked around the room and noticed waiters in tuxedos and well- to-do diners. She smiled as she turned her head back to her Sire. "Pretty fancy place, Angel." The dark vampire's eyes appeared puzzled as he watched Spike laugh. "Some things never really change, do they?"

"What do you mean?" Angel asked.

Spike warmly smiled. She was making an observation and did not want to insult him. "Angel or Angelus, you always liked the finer things in life. The frilly cuffs and collared crowd, as I recall."

"You don't like it here?" Angel asked with hurt shining on his face for a moment.

Spike leaned over and grabbed his hand. "Angel, that's not what I meant. I'm just saying you don't have to go all fancy like just for me. I'd be just as happy at the hot dog stand down on LaBrea Avenue. As long as I'm with you, I'm happy."

"I know, Spike. But, indulge me. Please? I wanted to bring you somewhere nice." The dark vampire smiled as he squeezed her hand.

"Would you like a cocktail?" Another distinguished man in a tuxedo asked as he handed the two vampires menus.

"Cosmopolitan." The female vampire answered.

"Aged Irish whiskey." The dark vampire replied. He smiled as he watched Spike peruse the menu with her usual fervour and zest for human food. "See anything you want, Spike?"

"It all looks so good. Although they don't have bloomin' onions." She replied as her face was buried behind the menu.

"What is that?" Angel voice sounded confused.

"We have to take you out more, Angel." Spike slyly replied.

They placed their menu down as the waiter returned to the table with cocktails. "May I take your order?" He asked as he looked at the female vampire.

"Um," Spike grinned with enthusiasm, "I'll start with the Soup de Jour followed by filet mignon…rare."

"And you sir?" He turned to Angel.

"NY strip steak…extremely rare. Thank you." As the waiter walked away, Angel picked up his glass and held it toward Spike. "To new beginnings." He toasted.

Spike grasped her martini glass and raised hers as well. "To new beginnings." Both vampires smiled widely as they drank.

The two vampires spent time laughing and talking. They also reminisced about good times shared together as they enjoyed their meal.

"What was your favorite time, Angel?" Spike asked as she stared intently at her Sire. Angel paused for some time before answering. Spike saw unshed tears in Angel's eyes.

"Geneva…1896." Angel said as he bowed his head for a moment. "We were there for a two months; just the two of us. Darla and Dru were in Germany." The dark vampire smiled at the memory.

"I remember." Spike whispered. It was the last time that they truly spent time alone together without the interference of Angel's Sire. Days and nights were spent making love in front of a fire, talking, and reading together.

"I loved you so much, Spike. I hope you realize that. Even in my twisted Angelus way…I am so happy you are back in my unlife." Angel smiled.

"I love you too, Angel." The female beamed as she took the last bite of her meal.

"Did you enjoy it?" The dark vampire asked.

"It was bloody fabulous!" Spike answered as she wiped her mouth.

"Are you ready to continue with the evening?"

Spike looked upon Angel with surprise. "There's more?" She asked with the excitement of a child.

"Let me get the bill and we will go." Angel turned to signal for the waiter.

*

The two vampires sat silently in the car as Angel drove to the next destination. Spike enjoyed the warm breeze blowing through her long hair. She felt so happy that for a moment she was scared. Spike was not used to feeling happy for a prolonged period of time. When things seemed to work out, the next moment it would all fall apart. Angel could sense her apprehension and squeezed her hand. He pulled over into a parking spot and turned off the car.

"Honey, are you okay?" He said with great concern in his eyes. "Yeah…I'm fine." Spike bowed her head. Angel knew she was hiding something but he was not going to push for the time being. "Where are we, Angel?"

"The beach. I thought we could sit here for awhile…If that's okay." Angel opened his car door and walked over to the trunk. He retrieved a blanket and then went over to Spike. He kissed her forehead and grabbed her hand. They both removed their shoes as they neared the sand. The ocean waves crashing on the beach was the only sound for miles. The moon shone upon the water. It was a beautiful, breathtaking site. Angel picked a spot and laid the blanket on the ground. Angel sat down with his legs spread and Spike sat in between his legs. Angel cherished the proximity to his Childe as he felt her lean against him; his nose was buried in her long locks inhaling the flowery scent of her shampoo. Angel purred with contentment as the two watched the ocean silently.

After some time, Angel felt Spike tense again. Her tiny voice pierced the quiet. "I'm scared."

"Of what, Spike?" He answered as he kissed her neck.

Spike turned around to face her Sire. "I'm happy. I've wanted this for so long…Granted I didn't expect to be a woman if it happened…but I have you back in my life. It's like a dream…" Spike voice choked. "But, what if it all ends…if it's taken away or you stop loving me…" Her head bowed as a tear slipped from her eye.

Angel lifted her chin. "I will never stop loving you, Spike. I promise. I'm scared too. But, we'll make it work…together. Okay?" He hoped he could reassure her. Angel grabbed her waist and lifted her into is lap. He captured her lips in a passionate kiss. Spike moaned as she allowed Angel's tongue to slip in into her mouth. Angel hands gently rubbed her back as they continued to kiss. He slipped his hand under her and felt Spike shiver as he lightly touched the small of her back. Spike pulled back from the kiss panting. She smiled as she stroked Angel's cheek. Suddenly Angel felt Spike shudder.

"Honey, are you cold?" He asked.

"A bit." She answered as she hugged herself.

Angel grabbed her hands and stood up. He took off his duster and helped Spike place it on. He wrapped her tightly as he embraced her. "Better?"

"Um, um." Spike reveled in the scent of her Sire.

"Why don't we head back." Angel said as he collected the blanket.

Spike looked up into the dark vampire's eyes and leaned up to kiss him. "I had a good time tonight, Angel." She smiled.

"Me too." They walked back slowly to the car hand in hand.

~Part: 11~

Angel and Spike walked slowly and silently through the front door of the Hyperion. Angel turned to his Childe. "Do you want some blood?"

"Sure." She answered.

Angel started walking towards the kitchen. "I'll meet you upstairs, okay?" He smiled.

"Okay." Spike returned the smile and slowly ascended the stairway.

Angel felt content and happy as he warmed up two mugs. He kept watching the timer on the microwave so he could hurry upstairs to Spike. He practically ran up the stairs to his room. As he opened the door, he walked into the room bathed in candlelight. Spike had set up candles throughout the room. He set the mugs down on the kitchenette counter and proceeded to sit on the edge of the bed. He noticed Spike was in the bathroom.

"Spike, are you okay?"

"Yeah. I'll be out in a second!" The high pitched voice yelled from behind the closed door.

"I love the candlelight." Angel said as he unbuttoned his shirt. He carefully folded the silk chemise and laid it next to him on the bed. The dark vampire sat nervous with anticipation.

"I thought it was romantic." The younger vampire said as she opened the door to the bathroom. She stood in the doorway wearing only a T- shirt.

Angel sat mesmerized by her beauty as she sauntered over to him. She stood in between his legs. She gently cupped his face and leaned down to kiss him. It was a sweet, chaste kiss. She whispered to him, "Angel, I love you and I trust you."

Angel looked up at her with love in his eyes. He slowly put his hand under her shirt and touched her toned belly and then the small of her back. He heard Spike gasp at the light touches. He remembered how tactile his Childe had always been. He wanted to take things slowly but wanted to devour her at the same time. Angel stood as he lifted Spike into his arms and walked towards the head of the bed. He unbuckled his pants and let them slide to the ground. He kept his boxers on but could not hide how aroused he was. He gently lifted the T-shirt over her head as he laid her down. Angel gently kissed her neck and led a trail down until he reached her small, supple breasts. He teased her left nipple with his tongue and felt it harden under his assault. Spike moaned and gasped as she reveled in the sensation. This was a new body for Spike and she was getting used to these new feelings. She felt as though she was on fire throughout her entire body.

"Angel..." She whispered as he kneaded her breast while sucking on the other one. The feeling was almost overwhelming. She felt Angel kissing her belly and her thighs. He looked up at her with lust filled eyes as he gently removed her silk panties.

"Are you okay, Spike? I want to make you feel good, baby." Angel asked in a breathless tone.

"Uh, uh..." She answered as Angel lifted her legs and placed them over his shoulders. She heard Angel moan as he gently teased her clitoris. The female vampire gasped as he moved his tongue in and out of her core. "Oh, god...Angel..." Spike called out as she was reaching her climax. Angel sucked on her nub and sent Spike over the edge.

"Angelllll!" The blue eyed vampire screamed as she climaxed. She lay back gasping for unneeded breath as Angel lay next to her. "That...was amazing, pet!" She said with a smile on her face.

"You're amazing, Spike." Angel grinned as he kissed her again until they were both breathless.

Spike felt Angel's erection against her leg; finally, after all this time, she was no longer afraid. What had happened to her was in the past. She trusted Angel and knew he wouldn't hurt her.

"Angel..." Spike spoke shyly as they gazed into each other's eyes. "I want...I need..." She was nervous. Spike wanted Angel to understand that she was no longer afraid.

"What is it baby?" He gently stroked her cheek.

"I-I'm ready..." She said as she looked down. Angel lifted her chin.

"Are you sure?"  She nodded her head yes as Angel leaned in to kiss her. He stood up from the bed and removed his boxers, finally freeing his intense erection. His broad chest and muscles mesmerized Spike. Angel sensed no fear from his Childe, only her arousal.

Angel gently lay next to Spike as he nibbled on her ear and kissed her neck. The dark vampire wanted to give his Childe as much pleasure as he could. He did not want her to feel any discomfort. He slowly inserted a finger into her core and found her to be extremely wet. Spike's eyes were closed as she enjoyed the sensation. "Sire..." she whispered. Angel smiled as he added another finger and manipulated her clitoris once again. Spike was restless now as she moaned in ecstasy. She was panting with desire.

Angel felt that she was prepared and moved on top of her. He slowly and gently slid into her and they both gasped at the contact. She felt so warm and moist. "Oh, gods, Spike...so tight...so beautiful..." Angel panted as he thrust into her.

"Angel..." Spike senses were in overdrive. The feeling of her Sire within her was almost too much. She felt as one with him as they moved together. They were making love and it was wonderful. They both were close to climax as they moaned together. Spike exposed her neck to her Sire and Angel changed his face. As Angel sank his fangs into her neck, the act brought them both over the edge. Angel rolled off her panting and sweating as he brought Spike to his broad chest.

"I love you." He told her as he held her tight.

"I love you too." Spike responded as she drifted to sleep feeling content and happy for the first time in one hundred years.

~Part: 12~

Spike woke up the next morning in the embrace of her Sire. She smiled widely as she felt so comfortable against his sleep-warmed body. She sensed Angel stir as she moved.

"Good morning, beautiful." Angel said in a sleepy voice as he kissed her gently on the lips.

"Hi." The female vampire replied as she nestled in the crook of his neck.

"Last night was amazing, Spike." Angel's chocolate brown eyes sparkled.

"I know...it's because I'm amazing!" She said sarcastically with a sly grin.

"Oh you are, are you?" Angel joked as he started to tickle her. Spike squealed as she tried to get away from the assault.

"Please...Angel..." Spike laughed so hard she could barely speak. "Mercy!" She exclaimed as she leapt out of bed covered by a sheet. "Not fair!"

"Aye, the world is not always fair, me lass." Angel responded slipping easily into his brogue as he stealthily strode towards her grinning. Spike felt a tingling sensation as she heard Angel speak. He swept her in his arms and gently placed her back in bed and they made love for the rest of the morning.

*

Angel and Spike emerged from their room in the afternoon. They walked towards the kitchen to feed but were interrupted by their friends in the lobby.

"Well, guys?" Cordelia stood with her arms folded. "It's about time you lovebirds emerged." She smiled as she rushed over to Spike. "How was it?"

Spike looked at her Sire and responded, "We had an amazing evening. Right, pet?"

"We did." The dark vampire answered. "I'll get some blood."  Angel went towards the kitchen as he heard the two girls giggling.

When Angel returned the whole group was in the lobby, including Giles. "Has anyone heard from the Scoobies yet?"

Giles cleared his throat. "I just spoke with Buffy. She reports that they should arrive about nine o'clock this evening. Buffy, Willow, and Tara have late classes and Xander is working. They are all excited about coming."

"That doesn't leave a lot of time to do stuff tonight." Cordelia interjected.

"I agree." Angel added. "Let's plan on doing something tomorrow night. We could take everyone out to eat and then maybe go to Caritas or something like that. What do you think, Spike?"

"Sounds peachy to me. We can hang here tonight and do something big tomorrow...if that's okay with everyone?" She answered as she eyed the group. Everyone shook their heads in agreement.

"Angel, which rooms will they stay in?" Wesley asked.

"Well, we are all on the second floor; why don't we prepare rooms on the third floor? They hardly ever get used. I hope the elevator holds up. We'll need three rooms so let's get to work." The group agreed and prepared the hotel for the arrival of their guests.

*

The group congregated in the lobby in the late evening hours awaiting the arrival of their guests. Wesley and Giles were in the study. Cordelia sat behind the counter giving Gunn a rundown of the Scoobies.

"...and then there's Buffy..." Cordelia paused as she rolled her eyes and then looked around to make sure Angel could not hear her.

"The slayer, right? She was Angel's girl." Gunn asked as he was trying to keep everyone straight.

"EX, girl, Gunn." Cordelia nervously eyed the room and did not see Spike so she continued. "She and Angel had a very complicated relationship. She was kind of a drama queen. But, Angel did go all evil on her back in Sunnydale for a time."

"You don't like her much do you?"

"How'd you guess?" Cordelia chuckled. "No, Buffy and I were never close. I was different too back then, though. I was kind of a snobby bitch in high school."

"Back then?" Gunn arched his eyebrow as he smiled.

"Shut up!" Cordelia playfully slapped Gunn. "Even when Angel moved here and they had broken up, she was still able to push his buttons when she came here." The seer sighed. "I just hope she doesn't pull anything while she's here; especially if she finds out Spike and Angel are together."

"From what you tell me they broke up years ago, so it shouldn't be a thing."

"Buffy and Angel were so dramatic, very romance-novelly. It was doomed from the start. I, for one, am glad he's with Spike. I know they have their dramatic issues, but Angel just seems more content and happy. He's less broody, thank God!" Gunn shook his head in agreement.

"Who's less broody?" Angel asked as he strolled across the lobby.

"No one!" Cordelia turned to Gunn and they smiled.

"Where's Spike?" The dark vampire inquired.

"Um, I think she is in the kitchen."

*

Spike sat at the kitchen table slowly sipping on a mug of blood. She could shake the nervous feeling in her stomach. She was excited to see her friends. The last few days were like a dream come true. She was reunited with her Sire. She felt the dream could shatter with the arrival of the Slayer. What if Angel decided he did not love her once he saw Buffy again? Spike wanted to trust Angel with all her heart. They both realized that they have to rebuild their relationship after all these years. Spike only hoped that the dream was not going to come to an end too soon.

The blonde vampire startled as Angel strode into the kitchen.

"There you are." Angel said as he kissed her forehead and sat next to her. "Why are you hiding in here?"

"I was hungry." Spike answered quietly as her eyes returned to her mug.

"Baby, are you okay?" The dark vampire's eyes were filled with concern as he touched her face.

"I'm fine, Angel. Really." Spike paused. She realized that she needed to take Giles' advice and voice her concerns.  "A-Angel, I-I..." She stammered as she looked into his eyes.

"What is it? You can tell me." He grabbed her hand.

"I-I..." Spike slowly turned her head to the door as she heard many voices flooding the lobby.  She turned back to her Sire.

"Spike, you're scaring me."

"Nothing's wrong." She lowered her eyes briefly. "I was going to say that I'm happy our friends are coming." She smiled. "I think they're here." She stood up and placed her mug in the sink after rinsing the contents. "Ready?" She asked as she walked towards the kitchen door to enter the lobby.

~Part: 13~

There was loud chatter in the lobby as the Scooby gang entered the hotel.

"Jeez. Deadboy always liked his space!" Xander exclaimed as he surveyed the hotel. "It must be a penis thing!"

"I think it's way cool." Dawn added as she put her bag down and turned to her sister. "Buffy, you never said this place was this big."

"Angel didn't live and work here the last time I was in LA, Dawny." The Slayer answered as she slung her bag onto the floor and rushed over to Giles.

The group smiled as the Fang Gang walked towards them.

"Hey everybody! Welcome to LA!" Cordelia said as she hugged Willow.

"Is that her, Xander?" Anya whispered to her boyfriend with a stern tone as she eyed the seer.

"Yes, Ahn. That's Cordelia. And you have nothing to worry about." He kissed the ex-demon on the cheek to reassure her.

They all stood in one big group making introductions.

"Wow, Wesley." Buffy greeted the ex-Watcher. "You've changed. LA seems to be treating you well."

"W-Well, yes. Thank you. I hope you are well, Miss Summers?" He answered with a smile.

"Come on Wesley. You know you can call me Buffy. We don't need any of that Watcher formality crap anymore."

"I agree, Buffy." Wesley smiled as Buffy embraced him.

"W-Where's Spike?" Tara asked as she surveyed the lobby. The Sunnydale women were excited to finally see their now female friend.

"Angel and Spike are in the kitchen." Gunn replied. He casually turned around and yelled, "Yo, Angel! Our guests are here!"

The large group continued to laugh and converse until the kitchen door opened and Angel followed by Spike walked through. The girls gasped as their eyes fell upon the female vampire.

Cordelia noticed Spike's tense stance as the two vampires stayed near the door.

"What?" The seer eyed the group. "You guys have never seen vampires before?" She smiled warmly at Spike who nervously reciprocated the kind gesture.

"Oh Goddess, Spike!" Willow broke the silence of the group as she walked over to the two vampires and embraced her friend. "It was kind of shocky seeing you for the first time!" The witch was embarrassed.

"S'ok, Red." Spike answered as they broke apart. "Hey, Glinda."

"H-Hi, Spike." Tara replied. "Y-You look good."

"Yeah, Spike." Anya interjected. "Who knew you'd be so hot!" The ex- demon smiled as she hugged him. "Just stay away from my Xander," she joked.

"That's okay, Anya. I have no desire to go anywhere near the Whelp!" Spike's sarcasm slowly returned as she began to feel more comfortable.

"Hey, Deadgirl Jr!" Xander laughed as he hugged Spike.

"My turn!" Dawn rushed up to Spike.

"Hey, Nibblet!"

"You look sooo good, Spike! I love your hair. I wish mine was wavy!" The teenager smiled and giggled as she ran her hands through Spike's long honey colored locks.

"So, Spikey, I guess you are a blonde!" Buffy teased as she hugged Spike.

"Jealous, Slayer? Mine no longer requires a bottle unlike yours!" Spike slyly grinned.

"Hey now!" She laughed and slowly she turned to her ex- lover.  "Angel. How are you?" Buffy beamed as she looked upon the dark vampire.

"I'm good. You?"

"Peachy!" Buffy answered as she embraced him.

Cordelia cleared her throat to get everyone's attention. "Now that everyone is acquainted and reacquainted, we can show you guys your rooms. Since it's late, we were going to order pizza and stay in for the night. Cool?"

The travel weary group agreed and picked up their luggage and walked towards the elevator. Angel showed them to their rooms on the third floor.

*

Buffy and Dawn flopped onto their beds exhausted.

"Spike looks so cool, Buffy! He, I mean she, is gorgeous!"

"She does look good." Buffy agreed. "But do you know who looked really good?"

"Oh, please, Buffy. If you start talking about Angel again, I think I'm going to puke! I don't know what you see in him anyway. He never smiles. Plus, hello? He went all evil when you guys did it!"

Buffy sat up shocked. "How do you know that's how he lost his soul?"

"I know more than you think." Dawn rolled her eyes. "Let it go, Buffy."

"I know...I know." She lay back on the bed smiling.

*

The Scoobies and the Fang Gang spent the next few hours eating and reminiscing. Spike was at ease talking to her friends. She stayed close to Angel at all times, but not in a particularly affectionate manner. She was not ready for her relationship to be revealed to her Sunnydale friends. She was updated about the latest demons in Sunnydale and whatever disasters transpired. Wesley and Gunn told stories of the various creatures the group had faced in LA.

Angel stood to refill his blood. He turned to the group. "Does anyone need anything while I'm up?"

Various people asked for soda and more pizza. Angel grinned with amusement.

"I'll help ya, Angel." Buffy darted off the couch and towards the dark vampire as he walked towards the food and drink.

"Er, thanks, Buffy." Angel answered slightly confused at her eager attitude. He figured the two would keep their distance. The last time they saw each other, Buffy was in LA hunting Faith down. They did not part on particularly good terms. Angel shrugged these thoughts away. It had been a few years; maybe, time heals all wounds.

"That's what friends are for, right?" Buffy smiled and looped her arm through Angel's as they walked towards the lobby counter. Out of the corner of her eye, Spike's undead heart skipped as she saw the two. She lowered her eyes briefly, but continued her conversation with Dawn.

Angel politely disengaged himself from Buffy as they gathered soda and pizza for the group. She was starting to make him feel uncomfortable but he reminded himself that this was harmless. They were all friends.

Buffy realized the two were far enough away from the group. "I meant what I said, Angel."

"What was that?" Angel's eyes were confused.

"That I hope we are friends." She slid closer to him. "We've been through a lot and I'll always care for you."

"We have been through a lot, Buffy."

The Slayer grabbed a few drinks and kissed Angel briefly on the cheek. "I just wanted you to know that." She smiled and walked back towards the group.

Angel stood there a few moments trying to make sense of what just transpired when a voice tore him from his inner thoughts.

"Hey Brood Boy!" Cordelia shouted. "Where's my diet coke?"

"Sorry!" Angel rushed back with a handful of drinks. He handed one to Spike and was could sense that something was wrong. She barely looked at him. He was about to take her aside when Cordelia started to scream in agony. She was suffering from a vision.

Spike went to her side while asking Gunn to explain Cordelia's visions to the Sunnydale group who stood in shock as they watched her writhe and scream.

Spike calmly stroked Cordelia's hair while she prepared to aid her in drinking some water and taking a few aspirin Wesley had retrieved.

"What did you see, pet?" She gently asked as Cordelia recovered.

"Standard vamps...attacking partygoers...at a fancy club in Beverly Hills... 202 Wilshire Blvd...be careful..." Cordelia looked up at her friends with panic in her eyes, "a few of them felt really strong." She sighed as she clutched her head. "Wow, this one was a whopper of a headache!" She weakly smiled as she was attempting to reassure their guests that she was okay. They still stood above her with worried expressions on their faces.

"Y-You okay, Cordy?" Willow asked.

"I'll be okay. It just takes some time to recover. Thanks." She allowed Spike to help her off the ground and onto the plush couch. "Thanks, Blondie."

"Anytime, pet." Spike placed a cool wash rag on her brow.

"And here I thought I would get a break from kickin' some serious vampire ass!" Buffy exclaimed as she noticed Angel, Wesley, and Gunn grabbing weapons from the weapons cabinet. She walked over to her leather jacket and pulled out a stake. "Good thing I always carry a spare!" She said proudly as she sauntered over to Angel.

"I guess I can finally see the famous Slayer in action!" Gunn said as she walked over to them.

"I guess so! I hear you're a pretty good vampire hunter yourself." She smiled.

"Well, I do my best." Gunn answered with a sly grin.

"Can't wait to see you in action, Wes." She added and the former Watcher smiled.

"Should be fun to fight together again, huh Angel?" She twirled her stake with excitement.

"Um, yeah." Angel backed up a bit as he felt Buffy was crowding him. "Are we ready?" Angel walked towards the door with the group door; but as he neared the exit, he abruptly stopped. He turned around. "Spike? Are you coming?" He asked kindly not realizing what had just occurred.

The blonde vampire clenched her jaw as she attempted to get a rein on her emotions. She did not want her friends to see the tears that were threatening to fall. A look of acknowledgment from Cordelia kept her from losing all her self-control.

"No. I'll stay here with the others. I think you have plenty of people to fight." She looked briefly at Angel with no emotion in her eyes. She then turned her attention back to the others.

"Okay. We'll be back." Angel smiled at Spike but by then she had looked away.

*

It was after 2 am when the four returned. The lobby was abandoned. The only light shining was the moonlight peering through the large windows.

"Wes and Gunn, you guys were awesome!" Buffy exclaimed as the group walked through the front door. "Those LA vamps thought they were so tough." She giggled to herself.

"They practically crapped in their pants when they found out you were the Slayer." Gunn laughed. Even Wesley could not help but chuckle at the vampires' reaction to the Sunnydale legend.

"Yes, quite amusing." He added as he yawned. "With that, I am officially exhausted. I will see you all in the morning." Wesley started to ascend the stairs.

"I agree with English. I'm beat."

"Goodnight, Gunn. Wes." Angel could not wait to go to bed either. He felt like he had not seen Spike all day. "Goodnight, Buffy." He called to her as she walked towards the elevator.

"'Night, Angel. Felt like old times, didn't it?" She answered as she yawned. She entered the elevator and waved goodbye.

The only thought Angel had on his mind was to grab some blood and go to bed. As he neared the kitchen, he could sense that Spike was in there alone. He smiled because he could finally have some private time with her.

"Hey." He quietly said as he came through the door and saw her sitting at the table with some tea and a magazine. He walked behind her chair and embraced her. "You waited up for me. I missed you." He kissed her on top of her head.

"Don't flatter yourself, Peaches." Spike hissed. "I wanted a cuppa to help me sleep." She pushed her chair back and stood to wash her cup in the sink. Without looking at Angel, Spike started to walk out of the kitchen. Before she reached the doorway, Angel grabbed her arm.

"Leave me alone!" Spike exclaimed as she tore her arm away.

A confused and surprised Angel looked upon his Childe. "Spike what's going on? Why are you upset?"

Spike turned her back towards Angel. She could not bear to look at him at this moment. She quietly said, "Do you even realize what you did to me tonight?" She slowly turned around and his heart broke when he saw the tears in her eyes. Angel stood quietly.

"You forgot about me...The minute Buffy showed up, you forgot about me." A lone tear escaped her eye.

"What? I didn't..." As Angel said the words he realized the moment she was talking about. "Oh, gods. Honey..." He walked towards her slowly. "That wasn't intentional. I didn't mean that. We were in such a rush..." His eyes pleaded with her.

"And Buffy was hanging all over you." Spike countered. "Felt like old times, right, Angel?" Spike laughed to herself as she brushed a stray long lock away from her face. "I'm so bloody stupid." The female vampire paced back and forth and had a manic tone to her voice. "I kept telling myself that I shouldn't worry about Buffy coming. But I couldn't stop the feelings. You told me you loved me...but the minute she comes, you FORGOT about me!" She screamed.

"Spike, I didn't." Angel did not know what to say to reassure her.

"Is that why you're with me, Angel?" Tears were now streaming down her face. "Because I'm a chit with blonde hair that you can actually fuck without losing your soul? Am I just a bloody substitute for your precious Buffy?" Spike covered her eyes with her hands and sobbed.

Angel slowly approached her. "Spike, I love you and only you." He said as he placed his arms on her shoulders. "I will admit that I could tell Buffy was kind of flirting with me tonight. It made me extremely uncomfortable. I kept trying to get away from her. You have to believe me, baby. And about the fight tonight, I would never forget you. Everything happened so fast. I'm so sorry I hurt you, Spike. I never want to hurt you. I'm so sorry." She looked up at him as he wiped the tears from her eyes.

The two stood for some time staring at each other. Finally, Angel spoke. "Remember I said I might do some stupid things, but that I love you and would never leave you?" Spike silently nodded. "I think this was one of them." Angel grinned as he saw a small smile creep across Spike's face.

*

As Buffy sat on her bed watching Dawn sleep, she realized that she was thirsty. She put a sweatshirt over her top and opened her door to the dimly lit hallway. Instead of taking the elevator she decided to take the staircase down the three flights. She hummed quietly to herself but stopped abruptly when she heard voices from below. She stood on the third floor balcony as she looked down.

*

Spike and Angel laughed as they left the kitchen hand in hand.

"I think you'll need to be punished for hurting my feelings tonight, pet." Spike playfully said.

"Oh, really?" Angel leered. "I'm so scared." He chuckled.

"You should be mate!" She sighed as Angel placed his hands around her hips and lifted her up and kissed her passionately.

"I do love you." Angel said as he placed her back down and placed his forehead on Spike's.

"You better." The two vampires laughed as they ascended the grand staircase to their room.

 *

Buffy watched with wide eyes as the two vampires stood in the lobby illuminated by moonlight. As she saw them kiss, tears streamed down her face. She felt weak as she attempted to move. She turned slowly and walked back to her room.

~Part: 14~

The morning sun bathed Buffy as she lay in bed.  She was still reeling from the kiss. 'THE KISS!'  Buffy thought to herself.  She was stunned to see Angel and Spike locked in a lovers embrace only a few hours before when she left her room to procure a drink of water.  She remembered standing on the balcony in shock as the two vampires kissed passionately.  It took all her strength to tear herself away and trudge back to her room.  She cried herself to sleep.

'How can they be together? Spike used to be a boy!'  Buffy thought to herself as she turned to her side.  Tears threatened to fall again as she wallowed in self-pity.  She always thought Angel and Spike were enemies.  They fought each other in Sunnydale constantly.  Buffy was confused as she tried to make sense of the situation.  Suddenly she gasped and shot up in bed.  "What about his curse?" She uttered aloud to the empty room.   Her sorrow slowly turned to anger.  Buffy felt cheated.  If Angel was with Spike and looked so happy, why could he not be with her?  Buffy felt the blame rested with Spike.  'He-She must have done something to Angel.  Some sort of spell or something,' she thought as her brain searched for a plausible explanation.

Buffy reluctantly rose from her bed and walked slowly to shower. After changing, she wanted to find Dawn and the others.

*

"Finish him off, pet!"  Spike yelled enthusiastically as she sat on the ledge in the back of the room.

"Whose side are you on?"  Angel playfully teased as he raised his sword to block the oncoming strike by Gunn's sword.  The three were working out in the training room before breakfast. Gunn and Angel were currently sparing.

"Thanks for the encouragement, Blondie!"  Gunn grunted before Angel spun and touched Gunn lightly on the chest with his weapon.  "Damn, man!"  Gunn laughed.  "Be careful not to draw any blood.  I'd hardly be safe with two vamps in the room."  He looked down to inspect his shirt for holes.

"Sorry, Gunn."  Angel said lightly as he placed his sword down and walked towards the female vampire.  "So," the dark vampire said in a lusty voice, "Do I get a prize for winning?"

"Nope!"  Spike hopped down and walked towards the center of the room. "I was rootin' for the other guy!"  She slyly grinned.

"Oh you were?"  Angel said as he picked her up and swung her around. "I could torture you for hours for taking the side against your Sire." He grinned widely.

Spike laughed as she kissed Angel.

"You two need to get a room."  Gunn rolled his eyes and smiled as he placed his sword back in the weapons cabinet.

*

Buffy descended the stairs and walked towards the kitchen.  As she opened the door she saw all her Sunnydale friends, plus Cordelia and Wesley eating breakfast.

"Hey Buffmeister!"  Xander said as he bit into a donut.

"Hey."  Buffy answered solemnly as she sat down.

"If you keep eating all those starches, you will look quite plump when we get married."  The ex-Vengence Demon said sharply.

"Yes, Ahn."  Xander rolled his eyes as he grabbed another pastry.

Dawn noticed the sadness plaguing her sister's face.  "What's wrong, Buffy?  You seem sad."

"Y-Yeah, Buffy."  Willow added.  "Is everything okay?"

"T-The fight went okay last n-night?"  Tara asked.

"It was fine.  Right Wesley?"  Buffy hoped to change the conversation by deflecting their concerns.

"Indeed."  Wesley answered simply.  All eyes turned back to Buffy.

"I'm just tired, guys.  No need to worry."  Buffy forced a smile. "So..."  She wanted to sound as nonchalant as possible.  "Where are the others?"

"Gunn, Angel, and Spike are up in the training room on the 4th floor."  Cordelia answered.  "They like to work out before breakfast."

"Well, maybe I'll check it out.  A good workout might wake me up.  See you guys later."  Buffy stood from her chair.

"Buffy, wait."  Dawn interjected before her sister left.  "I'm hanging with Willow and Tara today.  We're going to a Wicca convention.  It's going to be so cool!  Maybe we'll find a present for Spike to give him tonight at his party."  The teenager giggled with anticipation.

"Sure, Dawnie."  Buffy answered slightly distracted.  "Be careful and have fun!"

Buffy exited the kitchen hastily and left her friends to continue their breakfast.  From the corner of the kitchen, Cordelia pondered how weird Buffy was acting.

*

The three friends continued their workout.  "Spike,"  Angel asked, "Do you want to spar now?"

"You and Gunn go ahead again.  It's fun just watchin' sometimes," the female vampire  answered.

"What weapons do you want to use now?"  The vampire hunter asked Angel.

"How about the poles?"

"Good choice, man.  I am going to whip your ass!"  Gunn smiled as he readied his weapon.  The two friends smiled at each other as they circled the mat in preparation for the fight.

Suddenly from the door, they heard a voice.  "Um, um.  Is this only a game for two or can a third person play?"  The Slayer leaned against the door.

"Buffy."  Angel said with a surprised tone.  "We didn't see you there."

"I guess I am becoming all stealthy like you."  She smiled widely as she walked over to the dark vampire.  In the corner, Spike rolled her eyes.  "I thought I would join you boys...oh, and girl...sorry Spike. I could use a good workout."  She turned towards the female vampire. "Since you left town, Spike, I haven't had a good training partner." Buffy smiled.  "So how about it, Big Bad.  For old times sake?"

"Sure, Slayer."  Spike answered slowly and she stared at her.

Buffy walked over to Gunn and reached her hands.  "Do you mind if I use this, Gunn?"

"No problem."  Gunn handed her the weapon and went to the back to watch.

Spike then walked over to Angel.  She could see concern in his face. "No worries, pet."  Spike spoke quietly to her love.  "Buffy and I trained together all the time.  It's bloody good exercise.  We go through the movements.   After we're done here, I need blood. Preferably yours.  I'm starving."  She said with a grin.

"I'll think about it."  Angel joked as he went to join Gunn.

"Well, Slayer, let's see if you've gone soft in my absence.  I'm sure training with the whelp has been so good for you."  She smiled sarcastically.

"Xander's surprisingly strong, Spikey."  Buffy retorted.   The two started circling the mat holding their poles.  Buffy struck first and Spike easily blocked the shot.  The dance was on.  Spike had not realized how much she missed the training sessions with Buffy.  They would spend hours fighting with weapons.  Spike would do her best to deflect any attack from Buffy while the Slayer could practice her moves.

After some time, they were both sweating and panting.  "You still have some good moves Buffy."  Spike said as they stood with their weapons down.

"Thanks.  You're not quitting on me yet, Spikey.  Are you?"  Buffy smiled wickedly as she stared at the female vampire.

"Hell, no. Slayer.  We've just started."  She started swirling her stick to await Buffy's next assault.  But instead of waiting for Spike to block the shot, Buffy jabbed her in the stomach eliciting a slight groan from Spike.

"Oops."  Buffy placed her hand over her mouth.  "Sorry, didn't mean to hurt you."  Buffy said innocently.

"Getting a bit nasty, are we?  Spike responded as she took her hand off her belly.  "Come on, Buff.  Give me your best shot."

Angel stood in the corner watching this display with concern.  He watched as Spike blocked shot after shot from Buffy.  Suddenly Buffy crouched and swept Spike's feet with her pole and Spike landed on the ground with a thud.  Angel started to growl slightly as he watched the display.

"Come on, Spike.  Maybe it's you who is going soft!"  She exclaimed as she stood over her.  Spike flipped herself up in one fluid movement and grabbed her stick. She said nothing but looked directly at Buffy. The female vampire felt Buffy was acting odd.  At that moment, Spike realized what this was about: Angel.

"Hardly hurt at all, schoolgirl."  Spike taunted.  "Come on, pet." She again twirled her pole.  Buffy struck with lightening speed and this time her pole was tilted upward and slapped Spike forcefully across the face.  Spike roared as she shifted into gameface as her head snapped back.  She swung her pole and knocked Buffy off her feet. Her chipped activated and a blood curdling scream echoed throughout the 4th floor as Spike clutched her head and fell to her knees.

Angel and Gunn rushed over to her in a panic.  "Spike!" Angel knelt beside her as the screams subsided and she panted in agony. Angel leaned forward gingerly to embrace her.

"NO!"  Spike screamed.  "Don't touch me!!"  Spike's head looked up and her wild eyes darted across the room.  She stumbled backwards against the wall and was curled in a fetal position murmuring and rocking. Her hands covered her ears and eyes.  Angel was shocked by this display and slowly crawled towards her.  He could hear Buffy in the background gasping and asking if she could help.  Gunn pulled her away.

"Spike...it's me, honey."  He proceeded with caution.  When he got near her, Spike became hysterical.  She was crying and fighting his embrace.

"No...please...stop!"  She kept repeating as she fought to break the hold her Sire had on her.

"SPIKE!  Listen to me.  You are not in that factory!"  Angel pleaded with her as tears rolled down his face.  "You're here in our hotel, with our friends."  As Angel held her shoulders, he shook her slightly to bring her back to reality.  In time, Spike began to calm and her wild eyes started to focus on her surroundings.  She continued to pant as her movements settled.  Finally she rested her head against the dark vampire's shoulder and whispered, "Angel."

"You're safe, Spike.  No one will ever hurt you again."  Angel told her as he stroked her hair and rocked her gently.

In the corner of the room Gunn stood with a stunned Buffy.  Tears rolled down her face.

As Spike's crying subsided, Angel delicately grabbed her shoulders to face her.  "See?  Everything will be okay."  He reassured the female vampire as she surveyed the room.  "Let's try to stand up, okay?"  He asked gently.  The two vampires slowly rose from the floor.  Angel looked down at his Childe and smiled as he wiped the wetness from her eyes.  "Gunn will take you downstairs and I'll follow soon.  Okay?" Spike nodded in agreement.

"Thanks, Gunn."  Angel said to his friend as he led Spike away.  Angel waited until they were gone before he moved.  He quietly walked over to the door and closed it.  He slowly turned to face Buffy.  His eyes burned yellow as he gazed upon his former love.  He could sense her fear; his demon revelled in it.

"A-Angel."  The nervous Slayer attempted to speak.  "I-I don't know what to say."

"How about explaining why you deliberately hurt my Childe?"  Angel's demon was howling;  Angelus was nearing the surface.  He felt the need to protect his family.  But, Angel's soul reminded him that he used to love this woman; he forced Angelus to retreat for the time being.

"Y-Your Childe?  I thought Drusilla was Spike's Sire?"  Buffy was confused.

"Drusilla found my William, but he drank from me."  Buffy shuddered as she looked into Angel's cold eyes.  "You didn't answer my question, Buffy."

The Slayer started pacing the room.  She turned her head away from him as she quietly spoke.  "I saw you two last night in the lobby.  I guess I freaked out.  I mean this is Spike we're talking about."  She spun around to face him.  "You two are supposed to hate each other and I saw you kissing him...I mean her!"  Buffy's face was red with anger.

"And what business is this of yours, Buffy!"  Angel shouted back. "What has happened between Spike and I has nothing to do with you."

"But I thought..."  Buffy's eyes look desperate.

"Thought what?  That one day we'd get back together?  As I recall, the last time you were here, you made a point of telling me how you had moved on to Riley.  You said you were happy."

Buffy hung her head.  "Well, it didn't work out."  She paused before lifting her head to look into Angel's chocolate brown eyes.  "I always thought we would be able to try again."

"Things are different Buffy."  Angel said to her.  "We are different. I am happy now."

"Now?"  Buffy anger was rising again.  "Happy?  How can you be happy and not lose your soul?  You lost your soul with me.  That means what we had was more real."  Tears were threatening to fall again.

Angel felt like slapping her at that moment.  "I lost my soul with you Buffy because for a brief moment, I forgot who I was.  I didn't feel like a vampire with a soul.  I felt like a man.  It wasn't the sex; it was the feeling of oblivion."  He paused as he realized Buffy did not comprehend.  "With Spike, I am truly complete.  Spike is my destiny. I am a vampire and a man.  I have a soul, so does Spike."  Buffy's eyes were wide in disbelief.  "We can work together to redeem ourselves.  And also, I can never forget how I have hurt Spike so much in our past.  My soul is safe.  Man or woman, Spike is my true love."

Buffy turned away as she felt her hopes were dashed.  After some time she spoke.  "I didn't mean to hurt Spike."

Angel's anger began to rise again.  "But, you did mean it.  Instead of being mature and talking to me about it, you chose to hurt someone who was defenceless.  If you have to be angry, then be angry with me. Spike didn't do anything wrong.  In fact, neither did I.  But if you insist on being such a brat, then you should have attacked me.  At least it would have been a fair fight."

"I didn't think Spike would freak out."  The Slayer held her head in shame.  "I guess I didn't think much at all."

"Do you realize that this was the first time her chip fired since her attack?"  Angel sternly stated.

"I didn't know."

"Of course you didn't."  Angel answered sarcastically.

"Giles said she was improving."

"Do you even care, Buffy?"  The dark vampire inquired.

The Slayer had a look of shock on her face.  "Of course, I care.  I wouldn't have come if I didn't."  She sighed.  "I'm sorry, Angel."

"I'm not the one you should be apologizing to."  Angel walked slowly up to Buffy and looked down at the petite blonde.  He spoke with a menacing voice.  "We asked all of you here to help celebrate Spike's birthday tonight.  If you can't be a mature adult, then I suggest you get the fuck out of my hotel and go home."  Angel glared at Buffy and then turned and walked out of the room.

*

Angel walked down two flights of stairs to return to his room.  He wanted to check on Spike.  He carefully opened the door and found Gunn sitting on the couch watching TV, while Spike slumbered on the bed.

"Is she okay?"  Angel asked Gunn as he gazed upon his Childe.

"Yeah, man.  She calmed down when we got to the room."  Gunn paused. "What the hell happened up there?  Cordy was worried that something was going to happen if Buffy came.  But, shit!  She was beatin' on Spike."

"I know."  Angel sighed.  "I took care of it.  Thanks for watching her.  Can you check on things for the party when you go downstairs? Make sure everyone knows what they need to do.  Hopefully, the Scoobies will make themselves scarce for the day and come back before I return with Spike."  Gunn nodded and proceeded to the door.

"Oh, and Gunn?"  The vampire hunter turned around.  "Don't mention what happened upstairs to anyone.  I don't want Spike's night to be ruined."

"Got it."  Gunn closed the door behind him.

Angel proceeded to the bed and lay down behind her and brought Spike's back to rest against his chest.  He whispered, "I've got you, Little One," as he kissed the back of her head and joined her in sleep.

~Part: 15~

Angel and Spike woke up in early afternoon. The dark vampire felt Spike stir against him. As Spike sat up, Angel joined her. He stroked her long, blonde hair gently and smiled.

"Are you feeling better, Spike?" He said quietly.

"Yeah...I guess." The female vampire responded as her head was bowed.

Angel looked upon her with concern. "Do you want to talk about what happened?"

Spike's big blue eyes looked up at her Sire. "I'm fine. Okay? I don't want to talk about it right now." She gave Angel a small smile. "I'm hungry, pet. Do you mind bringing somethin' up?"

"Sure." Angel said as he slowly stood from the bed. "Spike, please don't shut me out. If it's bothering you, we need to talk about it." His eyes pleaded with her.

"I know...and I will. But, right now, I'm starvin', luv, and a little brekky would do me some good." Her face was the picture of innocence. Angel smiled when he recognized one of a myriad of expressions Spike had mastered to influence situations to her favor.

"You win." Angel said playfully as he sauntered towards the door. He turned to face Spike before leaving. "I thought you and I could catch a movie this afternoon before going out with the Scoobies tonight. How does that sound?"

"Sure. Do I get to pick the flick?" She said with a big grin.

Angel could not resist her charms. "As always."

"Now that's not fair! The last movie we saw, as I recall, you picked. And it was some ol' geezer flick with that NRA guy...what's his name...oh, yeah...Charlton Heston. I think the movie was older than me!" The blonde vampire said enthusiastically as she stood from the bed.

"It was a piece of cinematic art, Spike! I'm sorry that it didn't have machine guns and rocket launchers."

"Anyway," Spike said as she walked towards Angel and caressed his cheek, "it's my turn." She added with an evil grin.

"Fine." Angel backed down and chuckled. "The paper is on the dresser. I'll be back." He placed a kiss on her forehead and closed the door behind him.

*

Angel walked down the hallway towards the stairs but turned to one of the hotel rooms first. He knocked lightly on the door and waited for an answer. As it finally opened, Angel asked simply, "Can we talk?" The door closed quietly behind him after he walked through.

*

Spike sat on the bed staring at the newspaper. She was trying to decide if she wanted to see the new horror film or make Angel sit through the newest chick flick. 'Oh the possibilities.' Spike thought to herself and chuckled. She turned toward a noise at the door. "Come in!" She said as she turned her attention back to the movie listings.

"Spike?" A female voice spoke out.

Spike slowly placed the paper on the bed and stood up and turned towards the door. "What do you want, Slayer?" Her blue eyes looked cold as she spoke with vengeance in her voice.

Buffy hesitantly closed the door and walked towards Spike.

"Came to finish what you started, then?" The female vampire spoke sarcastically.

Buffy appeared remorseful. "L-Look, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry. I totally wigged out and I had no right to do what I did." Her tear filled emerald green eyes were cast downward. She looked up when she did not receive a response from Spike. "W-Well..." The Slayer sighed and went to sit down on the couch. "I saw you and Angel kissing the other night and I was hurt and angry."

Spike watched as Buffy stumbled through an explanation. Not only was Spike upset that she was attacked by Buffy; but the reaction to the chip firing frightened her more than anything.

The Slayer continued talking. "I have loved Angel for so long..."

"Try 123 years, pet." Spike said quietly as she walked over to the bed and sat on it. She was now sitting across from Buffy.

Buffy raised her head. "What?"

"123 years. That's how long I've loved Angel." She said as her blue eyes looked upon the Slayer.

The two blondes stared at each other for some time. "Why did you tell us that Drusilla was your Sire?"

The blonde vampire shrugged her shoulders before speaking. "Don't know. I guess that I was so angry at him for leaving me that it made it easier to live a lie. Made the hurt less, I guess."

"B-But you were a guy." Buffy countered.

"Pet, for someone who has killed vamps professionally for such a long time, you don't understand anything about us." Spike stood up and paced. "It's beyond gender for us, luv. It's blood, passion, kinship..." Buffy seemed confused as Spike spoke. "He MADE me, Buffy. His blood forever runs through me. It is an intimacy that cannot be rivalled." She was not attempting to hurt her feelings; she was simply speaking the truth. Despite all they had been through, Spike now understood how much Angel loved her.

"He didn't seem this close to Darla or Drusilla." Buffy was still trying to understand.

"Not all Sire and Childer achieve this sort of relationship." Spike answered.

Buffy wore a sad smile. "He loves you, you know." Spike watched her closely as she continued. "He would move the sun and the moon for you." Buffy sighed and stood up. "I just wanted to tell you that I'm sorry and I hope we can still be friends. I really was happy to come to see you. We do miss you in Sunnydale."

Spike walked over to her and the two blondes hugged. "I miss you all too. Ta." The two smiled at each other and Buffy quietly left the room.

*

"Is she all right then?" Giles asked as he sat cleaning his glasses. He was quite concerned. "Did Buffy injure her greatly?"

Angel shifted in his seat on the couch. "No. Spike is fine physically." He ran his fingers through his hair. "Rupert, how much do you know about the chip?"

"Not much, I am afraid." The Ex-Watcher said as he placed his glasses back on. "I tried to procure as much information from Spike when he was first chipped; unfortunately, Spike had very little information."

Angel's head shot up. "What about that Riley ponce that Buffy was dating?" Giles smiled as he heard Angel use such a Spike term. "Wasn't he one of the commandos?"

"He is long gone. He and Buffy's relationship did not end well. The Initiative is deserted and no files left in the compound." Giles leaned forward. "We know essentially nothing of the inner workings of the chip. It does emit some sort of signal; but beyond that, we do not know anything." He sighed.

"Well, we know it still works." Angel paused for a few moments. "Maybe, eventually it will just stop working."

"We can only hope." Giles answered. "But..." He abruptly stopped and did not continue.

Angel stood. "But what, Giles? You were going to say something."

"It was nothing, Angel." As he gazed upon the dark vampire with yellow eyes, he continued. "W-Well, my fear is that if the chip malfunctions, this could affect Spike neurologically."

Angel reverted to his human features. "Meaning?"

"What I do know is that the chip is embedded deep into Spike's brain. I fear that the chip could cause problems with cerebral functions." Giles noticed the concern on the older vampire's face. "It is simply a theory, Angel."

Angel stood up and paced. "I have to find someone who can look into this for us. Giles, you should have seen her reaction to the chip firing. She screamed and cried and it was like she was transported back to the factory where she was attacked. I can't let it happen again. She needs to heal." Tears threatened to fall from the chocolate colored eyes. He sat back down on the couch slumped over. Giles watched the vampire closely. At times when he looked at Angel, he saw a very strong yet vulnerable young man. Other times, Angel appeared to be the centuries old vampire with a penchant for cruelty. It was a fascinating paradigm to his Watcher mind. He acknowledged to himself that Angel cared for Spike. And he did not want her to be alone. For her sake, Giles vowed to try to forgive Angel's demons for his transgressions.

"You have some demon contacts in this city, yes?" Giles asked. Angel nodded. "It seems like a good place to start." He walked over to Angel and sat next to him. "On a brighter note, is her party still on for the night?"

"Yes. I'm going to take her to a movie this afternoon. By the time we return, everything should be ready."

"Splendid. I think she will enjoy the festivities." Giles smiled at Angel. "This was very thoughtful of you to do this for Spike." Angel smiled at Giles when he heard the compliment.

"Thanks, Giles." Angel stood and walked towards the door. Angel turned to him and said, "You're a good father to Spike." The dark vampire then exited the Ex-Watchers room.

*

Angel returned to the room with two mugs filled with pig's blood. As soon as he entered, he walked over to his Childe who accepted the blood eagerly. Angel paused and then a slight sense of panic ran through him as he looked around. "Why do I smell the Slayer in here?" He placed his mug on the table and began an inspection of Spike. "Did she hurt you?" He asked as he cupped her face.

Spike looked up at the dark vampire. "Don't worry, Sire. She came to apologize, that's all." She walked towards the window with her back towards him while Angel sat down on the edge of the bed.

"Spike. It'll be okay." He said quietly.

The blonde vampire turned towards Angel. "But it's not okay, is it Angel?" She sighed and placed her mug on the windowsill. "I went all wonky when my chipped fired. I felt like I was back there...I-It seemed so real." She brushed a long lock from her face. "I thought I was so much better, you know?" Spike went to sit next to her Sire. She grasped his hand with her little one. "You have been so amazing to me, pet. I'm so grateful." She managed to smile genuinely as she gazed into his angelic face.

"But?" Angel said with trepidation.

"I think I should go back to Dr. Brock. Talk it out." She stood once more and walked towards the window.

"Are you sure, honey? What happened last time..." There was some fear in the dark vampire's voice. He could not imagine nearly losing her again.

"It's okay, Angel. I'm not gong to hurt myself again. I felt so alone at the time. I realize now that I'm not. I have so much support. Don't worry, luv."

"You are my everything, Spike."

"As you are mine. But, I need to do this." She said as she brushed some hair behind her ears. "She can maybe help me face my fear. And..." Spike paused and lowered her head.

"What is it?" Angel's concerned grew againas he saw her face fall.

"I've been here a-almost five months, Angel. A-And I'm still like this." Her eyes traversed her body. She continued when she noticed confusion in Angel's eyes. "My change. The magics that changed me haven't worn off yet."

Angel stood and walked over to Spike. He led her over to the couch and sat with her clutching her hands. "Giles and Wesley are still trying to find an explanation, honey."

"I know. But, if it hasn't worn off, I don't think it will. I've kind of accepted it, I think." Her eyes watered slightly as she shook her head. "I just don't get it. Why did it happen? Why me? Is it some sort of test?" She looked into her Sire's eyes hoping to find the answers in his chocolate colored orbs.

Angel simply shook his head. "I don't know, Spike."

Spike exhaled the breath she was holding. "It's just hard...Maybe I should change my name. I mean, you've had three different names, right? Spike sometimes doesn't seem to fit anymore, does it?"

"If you need to, honey." Angel stroked her cheek. "Do you really want to?"

"I don't know...Anne is a nice name." She said with a sad smile.

"Your mum's name." Angel paused. "Whatever you need to do is okay."

Spike began pacing again. "I don't know. I feel so different, yet at times the same." Angel noticed Spike's eyes watering again. "I don't even know what I look like." She said quietly with such a defeated tone in her voice. She sniffed. "See? I have a lot to talk to Dr. Brock about."

"I think it will help you, baby. And I'll go with you. Even if just want me in the waiting room; I will always be by your side."

"Ta." She smiled as she walked over to Angel and sat on his lap. She snuggled into the crook of his neck and sighed contentedly as Angel wrapped his long arms around her. They sat there comfortably for some time. Finally Spike's voice pierced the quiet. "I wanna go see the new Bridget Jones movie."

~Part: 16~

The Fang Gang, along with the Scoobies, worked frantically to prepare the lobby for the party. Angel had taken Spike to the cinema a few hours prior.

"No, Sweet crumb!" Lorne said to Gunn. "Hang the banner using this." The Green Demon handed the vampire hunter a box of tacks.

"This good?" Gunn asked as he stretched the banner.

"Looks great!" Lorne turned around. "Wesley, is the stereo set up?"

"For the hundredth time, Lorne, yes!" The Ex Watcher answered as he helped the others blow up balloons.

"Hope Deadgirl Jr. appreciates this!" Xander said sarcastically with a smile.

"I can't wait for her to open our gifts!" Dawn said excitedly and she rushed around the lobby. "Do you think Spike will like our present, Buffy?" She asked with a big smile.

"Of course, Dawnie." Buffy answered softly. She was happy to receive Spike's forgiveness but was still a bit sad as she thought about what she lost; upon reflection, she realized that although she looked upon Angel as her true love, she was not his. She sighed and continued helping with the preparations. Time will heal her broken heart. She smiled as she stroked the long brown hair of her sister as Dawn sat down next to her. She would be okay. One day.

"W-When are Spike and Angel coming back?" Tara asked quietly as she handed a balloon over to Willow.

Cordelia glanced at her watch. "They should be back in about an hour. So, hurry up, people! Times a wastin'!"

*

As evening descended upon Los Angeles, Angel and Spike exited the movie theatre walking hand in hand. Spike grinned. "Was that sufficient torture for you?"

Angel squeezed her hand. "No. The movie was fine. It isn't 50's movie magic, but it'll do." He answered with a smile.

"So, what's the plan tonight, pet? I feel bad that I didn't get to spend any time today with the Scoobies." Spike frowned.

"Well, after what happened with Buffy today, I think you had a good excuse." The dark vampire reassured her. "I think we should go out to eat and then swing by Caritas. I don't want you to feel uncomfortable by going anywhere else."

The female vampire looked lovingly into Angel's eyes. "It's okay, luv. We can go to a traditional bar. You won't let anything happen to me."

"Are you sure?" Angle asked concerned. Spike nodded. "Well, Cordy is always talking about this great Mexican restaurant near the hotel. I'm sure after that, we could find a few bars for the group."

"Sounds like a plan." Spike grinned as they strolled towards the hotel.

"I should call to make sure they are all ready to go when we get back." Angel said as he reached into his coat pocket to retrieve his cell phone. "Cordy? We're leaving the theatre now. Uh, uh...yes...the Mexican rest...wait...fine...okay Cordelia...see you soon." He turned his phone off.

"Bint sure can speak a mile a minute, huh?" Spike chuckled at his Sire.

"That's our Cordy." Angel joined Spike in laughter. The two walked slowly enjoying the company. A comfortable silence ensued as they wound through the streets of LA.

"'S nice to walk for a change around here." Spike said as she continued to gaze straight ahead. "Reminds me a bit of 'ol Sunnyhell."

Angel turned to her. "Do you miss being there?"

Spike paused for a moment before answering. "Bits here n' there, I wager. Like anyplace I've been in unlife. Do like it here the best though." She said as Angel put his arm around her and held her close.

"Good." Angel said firmly as they entered the courtyard. The scent of jasmine wafted through the air. The two vampires inhaled the strong aroma and sighed.

"Angel?" Spike disengaged himself from her Sire and walked ahead. "The light is out in the lobby." She turned to him. "Do you think something happened to them?"

"I doubt it, Spike." Angel answered reassuringly. "The electricity probably went out. It's an old hotel; the wiring is ancient."

She squeezed his hand and walked through the door. All of a sudden, Spike jumped as the light turned on and she heard, "SURPRISE!!!!"

Angel walked past her to join the others in the lobby. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SPIKE!" The Scoobies and the Fang Gang shouted in unison.

The blond vampire had not quite reacted yet. She stood on the top steps frozen, blue eyes widened and fixed. She slowly began to notice the elaborate decorations in the lobby. Colorful balloons littered the floor. Banners stating 'Happy Birthday' hung from the stairs and over the front desk. There was a table in the corner with food and drinks; an adjoining table appeared to have presents.

"Y-you did this for me?" Spike sputtered out finally in a weak, shaky voice as she looked at her friends.

Angel returned to her side because he wasn't sure if she would be steady on her own. He hugged her and whispered, "Happy Birthday, Little One."

She returned the hug with such force, holding on to Angel as if he was her lifeline. "I had forgotten...it's been so long." She whispered as her eyes watered. She turned to face the group. "Ta, to everyone. This is so thoughtful of all of you." She said as she descended the two small steps to walk towards her friends. She was immediately attacked by a million hugs. She was warmed with love and acceptance; a feeling she had searched for an eternity.

"Alright!" Cordelia shouted. "Enough with the touchy-feelies!" She chuckled. "Time for presents!"

"Prezzies...for me?" She asked innocently but with a sly grin. Spike laughed.

"Come sit next to me, Spike!" Dawn giggled as she dragged the blond vampire over to the sofa and sat down. "Mine, first!" The teenager said excitedly. "I mean ours. Buffy helped me pick it out." She handed a wrapped box to the blond vampire.

"Thanks, Nibblet." Spike stated as she tore the wrapping off. She opened the box and it revealed a three quarter length black leather coat. Spike stroked the fine leather.

"We figured your old coat probably didn't fit anymore." Buffy chimed in as she took a seat near the vampire. "I hope you like it."

Spike looked down at the coat and then at the Slayer. "Thank you, Buffy. Platelet." Spike smiled widely.

Angel watched the interaction curiously. He was amazed at his Childe's ability to forgive so easily. He smiled at his former girlfriend as their eyes met.

"O-Our turn!" Willow added as she handed another gift to Spike. "I-It's from Tara and I."

Spike dug into a decorative bag and it revealed a myriad of candles in different colors. "Been missin' all my candles, Red; Glinda. Ta!"

"A-And some of the candles have specific purposes, S-Spike." Tara went to point out a few. "S-Some of them are enchanted. This one is a protection candle and t-this is a candle to use w-when you're feeling stressed."

"Yeah!" Willow continued. "There's a guide in there that tells you when and what to use them for." The red-headed witch smiled.

"Can't wait to use 'em!"

"Alright, Deadgirl, Jr." Xander stood with a box in his hands. "Enjoy!"

"Xan-pet!" Spike shrieked. "An X-Box! Been tryin' to get the Poof to buy me one. Says it's too juvenile. Ta!" Spike stood to embrace Xander and then Anya. Angel glared at Xander in the corner. He would never like that dark-haired youth.

"I wanted to get something else, Spike. But Xander said it was an inappropriate gift." The Ex-Demon pouted as she crossed her arms.

Xander rolled his eyes. "Sweetie, not now." He placed his arms around her and led her to the other sofa.

"Alright, girl!" Gunn walked up to Spike. "Have fun." He handed her a battle-axe with a red bow tied to the handle.

"Gunn," Spike mocked, "You sentimental fool!" She chuckled as the two hugged.

"Here you go Blondie-Bear." Lorne handed Spike an envelope.

"Gift certificates to Tower Records. Thanks, Green Jeans!" Spike looked around as people were chatting and laughing. He could not believe how generous his friends were. He felt unworthy of the attention, but still appreciated it nonetheless.

Wesley handed Spike a package. "Spike." Wesley said curtly.

"Wes." Spike answered in a similar manner. She opened the package and it revealed a textbook of Daemonic Languages. They had discussed this text many times over tea. "You found it?"

"At the auction I attended recently." He smiled.

"Ta." Spike answered warmly. She felt so humbled. "This is too much, everyone. Really." She said with wide eyes.

"And we're not done yet, Blondie!" Cordelia sauntered up with a bag. "Open!"

As the female vampire dug through the bag, she discovered many goodies: a gift certificate to a Spa, two shirts and a few unmentionables that made Spike blush. "Cordy!" Spike said as she laughed. She was too embarrassed to show the group those items and kept them in the bag. She hugged the Seer and turned to Giles as she felt his hand on her shoulder.

The Ex-Watcher simply smiled at Spike as he handed her five books. As she gazed down at the ancient texts, she realized they were rare editions of the greatest poets to ever live. No words were exchanged as Giles gathered Spike into his arms.

Spike turned to his friends. "Thank you so much everyone; for everything. I don't know what to say." She said shyly as she dropped her head for a moment. Spike stood to join his friends as they walked towards the food. They stopped when they heard Xander speak.

"Now, wait a minute." Xander looked around. "What about Deadboy's present?" The whole group looked at Angel as he sat slightly away from the rest.

"Yeah, Angel?" Dawn added. ""Didn't you get anything for Spike?"

Spike did not want to cause a scene. "S'okay, Nibblet. Angel threw this party for me. He doesn't have to get me anything." Spike smiled and threw a small glance at Angel before looking away. She did not want him to be upset; he had given her so much already.

"No way, Mister." Cordelia added. "I know you got her something!" Her hands were on her hips.

As the whole group asked Angel where his present was, the dark vampire soon tired of the chatter. "Enough!" He shouted a little too loud. "I did get Spike something; I just choose not to give it to her right now."

For a moment, Spike's heart sank. Angel did not want to show their friends how he felt about her. She was a dirty little secret.

Gazing at Spike, Angel could see her disappointment and because of their Bond, understood why. He did not want her to ever feel second-best. "Alright, everybody. Give me a second to get it." Angel walked towards his office and returned in a few minutes. In his arms, he carried a small elaborate wooden box. He smiled as he watched his Childe's face light up. He motioned for her to sit and he settled beside her. He held the object but turned it towards Spike for her to open it. The entire group gathered around closely; they were curious to see the contents.

"Happy Birthday, Honey." The dark vampire said quietly.

The two gazed at each other before Spike lowered her head to stare the detailed box. As she opened it, the wonderful scent of sandalwood wafted through the air. In it, lay a creamy colored envelope lying on top of crushed red velvet material. She reached for the paper with a shaky hand. Her finger gently rubbed over the seal that she recognized as the symbol of the Aurelius Clan. She slowly opened the envelope and retrieved the paper inside. As she unfolded the paper, she gasped slightly as her eyes fell upon a charcoal drawing of a beautiful woman laughing. She stared for a few moments before she found her voice. "I-Is that...?"

Angel nodded. "That's you, sweetling...I'm sorry I didn't do this for you before." Angel held his head down.

"No, Angel. It's okay." Spike smiled as she placed her hand on his cheek. The two were in their own world; they were oblivious to the crowd surrounding them.

"There's more." Angel pointed to the velvet cover. Spike picked up the fabric and realized there was something in it. He reached in and felt a handle and pulled it out. She looked up at Angel confused as it dawned on her what the object was. With an unsteady hand, she brought it up to her and for the first time in 123 years, she saw her own reflection. Her chin trembled as she looked upon her new face for the first time. Tears streamed down her visage as her hand trembled as she slowly touched her eyes, cheeks, nose and lips. She held up her hair as she saw the waves of honey brown locks.

"S-Sire..." Her voice trailed off as she was overwhelmed with emotion. Her head found his shoulder as he wrapped his large arms around her tiny form. She sobbed quietly as her arms snaked around his waist.

Cordelia wiped tears from her eyes as she motioned for the group to give the two some privacy. She led them to the food table as she turned to see her two friends locked in a lover's embrace. She smiled.

"How?" Spike sniffed as she gazed at Angel.

"I called in a few favors." The dark vampire smiled as he wiped her tears away.

"Does it work for you?" She asked innocently.

He smiled at her question. "No. This is for you only. I saw my reflection recently when we travelled to Lorne's home dimension called Pylea. I'm pretty good looking if I say so myself!" He said jokingly.

"I could have told you that!" She grinned widely and then became serious again. "You have no idea what this means to me, Angel."

"I know it's something you needed, honey. Now, the magics will not last for an eternity; but, you will have some time."

"I love you so much..." Spike added. "More and more each day." Angel caressed her cheek and leaned in and placed a chaste kiss upon her pink lips. He wanted to do more, but knew they had an audience. The two stood to rejoin their friends. Spike was a bit concerned that their friends would be shocked by their display of affection. The two vampires were met with hugs and laughter as they spent the next few hours eating, dancing, and enjoying their time together.

~Part: 17~

A few months had passed since Spike's birthday celebration.  She had regular sessions with the psychologist and even ventured to many human establishments without fear anymore.

Cordelia sat in the front lobby reading a magazine one evening.  Gunn, Wesley and Angel returned from halting a demon raising in the Valley. They appeared exhausted.

"Went well, huh?"  Cordelia chuckled as she saw them enter the lobby.

The three nodded as they placed their weapons on the ground.  Angel turned to the Seer.

"Where's Spike?"

"She went to sleep an hour ago.  She said she was really tired and had a headache."  The Seer paused.  "Angel, Spike has been getting headaches a lot lately.  Has she said anything to you?"

The dark vampire shook his head.  "No."  He answered in a worried tone.

"She has appeared fatigued of late."  Wesley added.  "Perhaps she is ill?"

"Vampire's don't get ill, Wes."  Angel said firmly.  "I mean, she's been sleeping more lately; but other than that, she seems okay."  He sighed.  "I'll talk to her and see what's going on.  See you in the morning, guys."

*

Angel slowly opened the door to their bedroom.  He wanted to be as quiet as possible if Spike was slumbering.  He noticed her tiny body was up on the windowsill staring out into the cool LA night.  Her arms were wrapped around her knees.

Angel gingerly walked to her.  "Spike?"  He asked quietly.  "Are you okay?"

She turned her head and brushed a long honey blond strand of hair away from her sculptured cheekbone.  Her voice sounded a bit strained.  "'M alright, Peaches."

Angel frowned.  "Are you having headaches?"  He watched as she nodded her head reluctantly.  "For how long?"

She shrugged her shoulders.  "For 'bout a week."

Angel's eyes were wide.  "One week!"  He threw his hands  in the air. "Jesus, Spike."  He gently cupped her face between his hands as he willed himself to calm down.  "Why didn't you tell me, baby?"  He stroked her cheek.

Spike turned into the touch, sighed, and then opened her eyes.  She jerked herself away and leapt off the windowsill.  "'S not a big deal, Angel."  She answered as she felt the room spinning for a moment. Her arms flew to her sides to attempt to steady herself.  She nearly hit the floor, but Angel caught her.  He cradled the tiny blond vampire into his arms and lay her down on the plush bed.

Angel waited for Spike to recover and then spoke in a serious tone. "William, tell me everything NOW."  Angel growled to drive home the point.  He rarely used his Sire voice with her.  As he witnessed his love nearly fainting, his Demon within howled.

Spike nearly flinched when she heard Angel speak.  She recognized the Angelus inflection in his voice.  But, she knew this was not the soulless Demon in front of her.  This was Angel; he cared and loved her unconditionally.  She sighed before she began.  Her giant blue eyes looked up at  the concerned face of the dark vampire.  "It's really nothing, Sire.  I just feel a little dizzy sometimes and then my head hurts."  She trailed off.

"Anything else?"  He asked as he stared at her intently.

"Well, when my stomach feels funny...I feel like I'm gonna heave. 'Jus figured I drank some bad blood last week."

"We drink the same blood, Spike.  Did you see me getting sick?" Angel's stomach felt like it was in knots.  His concern for his Childe grew by the minute.  He recalled the conversation he had with Giles a few months ago.   There was a possibility that Spike's chip was malfunctioning.

"Have you fed this evening, Childe?"  He asked as he stroked her pale cheek.  He growled again when she shook her head.  "Why not?"

"Stomach felt sick."  She curled to the side towards Angel.  "Don't be mad, Angel.  I just didn't want you to worry about me."  She pouted and Angel was forced to smile.

"I'm not angry with you, Little One.  But I worry about you.  Okay? We'll talk more in the morning."  She nodded her head.  "Do you want to try to feed from me?"  She nodded again and smiled.  He stood up briefly and walked to the drawer. He quickly changed into some pajama bottoms and rejoined Spike in bed.  Angel bit into his wrist as he spooned the tiny blond in front of him.  He wrapped his arm around her and offered the wrist to her.  She suckled greedily for a minute and then he felt her licking the wound closed.

"Did you have enough?"

"Yeah."  She said groggily as she relaxed into his embrace.   The fatigue the two vampires felt allowed them both to fall asleep quickly.

Rupert Giles sat in his office in England with a myriad of ancient, musty texts in front of him.  He tirelessly worked on the origin of Spike's change since he returned to the UK.  After his reinstatement into the Watcher's Council, he now had a whole library of references at his fingertips.  He did not divulge this project to his superiors, though.  He knew what the Council was capable of.  He thought of Spike as his own child and he would not allow anything or anyone to exploit this.

He researched at home in his spare time. The bite of a Moya Moya Demon was not capable of gender switching properties.  Over the last few months, the search for answers had been fruitless.  But, he continued to scrutinize every prophecy he could find.

Giles absently reached for the cup of tea resting on the table.  He took a sip and winced as he realized how cold it was.  'When did I pour the tea?'  He thought to himself as he removed his eyeglasses and rubbed his eyes vigorously.  He glanced at the clock.  4am.  Rupert was shocked at how much time had passed.  He stood up and yelped as the teacup was knocked over onto the text.  He quickly reached for a towel and began to dab the paper gently.  As he placed his glasses back on, he looked over the paper slowly.  A verse caught his eye.

"Oh, dear!"  He gasped as leaned over to read the passage carefully. His hand was over his mouth in shock.  His concentration was suddenly interrupted by the telephone ringing.  He was reluctant to answer the call.  He sighed as he walked towards the phone.  "H-Hello?"

"Rupert?"  The voice on the other line sounded harried.  "It's Angel."

"Oh my, Angel!  I barely recognized your voice.  Is everything alright?"  He asked with a nervous tone.

Angel paused.  "It's Spike."  He answered quietly.

Giles sat down. "What is the matter with her?"

"I think...it's the chip.  She's having headaches, dizziness, and nausea.  She's even vomited a few times."

"When did you discover this?"

"Two days ago but it's been going on for over a week."  Angel took a deep breath.  "I'm going to call the Dr. Brock and see if she can refer us to a demon medical doctor."

"NO!"  Giles said quickly although he regretted the urgency of his voice.

"What's wrong, Rupert?"  Giles could hear Angel brooding through the phone.  "Do you know something?"

"Please, Angel.  Allow me to arrive prior to seeking outside attention.  Some of these demon doctors may have some ties to the Initiative.  Let me see what I can do from my end.  I will take the first flight available to Los Angeles."

Angel was silent on the phone for a time.  "Okay, Rupert.  But come quickly.  I don't want her to suffer more of this.  If it is the chip, then it must be removed."  He said forcefully.

"Yes, I agree.  I will begin my preparations this moment.  See you soon."  With that, he hung up the phone.  Giles returned to the text and held it up.  This could be the answer.  He shook the book and smiled.

~Part: 18~

Two days later

Spike sat up in bed.  She felt better for the time being, but her attacks came on suddenly, without warning.  She was bored staying on the bed, but Angel insisted.  'Angel can be such a stubborn ponce' she thought to herself.  She felt nervous about what was happening to her. Angel tried not to discuss it too much. He kept telling her that it'll pass and she would be fine.  But, when he informed her that Giles was arriving today, she knew this was a bigger deal than Angel let on.  She was grateful that the headaches subsided but the nausea was ever present.  She was finding it difficult to feed, but she managed to sip on some blood occasionally.  Angel made sure she was feeding properly.  Spike smiled at the care and love the dark vampire had shown her.  She felt so comforted.

Angel sat in the lobby nervously awaiting Giles' arrival.  Wesley came out of his office with an ancient text in hands.  He was deeply concentrating because he suddenly found himself sprawled on the granite tile after he tripped over the couch.  Angel rushed over to help his friend off the floor.  He also picked up the book and handed it back to Wesley.

"You okay?"  The dark vampire asked.

"Yes, thank you.  I was quite engrossed in the text."  The Ex-Watcher answered.

"What are you researching?"  Angel leaned over to eye the book.

"Giles asked me to look up a few words in the proto-bantu language. It appears he may have found something of interest."  Wesley replied as he adjusted his glasses.

Angel scowled.  "Did he tell you what it was?"  He was quickly losing his patience.

"No, unfortunately.  We will await his arrival."

Angel started to pace.  "Well, he better get here soon."  He said with an air of desperation.  As soon as the words left his mouth, Giles walked through the lobby doors.  Angel opened his mouth  talk until he noticed a man behind Giles.  He appeared to be a Shaman-like figure. He was dressed in a purple shroud that covered nearly his entire body. Only his nose and eyes were visible.

The dark vampire charged over to the two.  "What the hell is going on, Giles!?"  His eyes flashed yellow.

Giles calmly placed his bags down.  "Angel, please."  He turned to his guest.  "This is Ky-Doung, a shaman friend from England.  He is someone I trust explicitly."

"What does he have to do with Spike's chip?"  His eyes were hopeful. "Can he remove it?"

"I am not entirely convinced the chip is the problem, Angel."  He stole a glance at Wesley who now stood over at the counter.  "Were you able to decipher the words I requested?"

Wesley nodded and proceeded to hand Giles a piece of paper.  The weary traveler eyed the contents for a moment and folded the paper and placed it in his pocket.

"Thank you so much, Wesley.  You're father would be so proud."  Giles smiled warmly at his ex-colleague.  Wesley returned the kind gesture.

Angel's voice raised.  "If you don't tell me what's going on, I will tear your limbs from your body."  He said menacingly as he stared at the men in front of him.

"If I could see Spike first with Ky-Duong and confirm a few things, I should be able to give you all the answers you seek.  I could still be off the mark, Angel."

Angel stood for a few moments before deciding to allow the two upstairs.  He slowly led them to the bedroom he shared with the blond vampire.  He lightly knocked on the door to alert Spike to their presence.  "Sweetheart?"  He said as he opened the door.  Angel walked in.  "Giles is here."  Spike scooted up in bed, smiling, as she saw Giles.  Her smile faded when her eyes fell upon the purple shrouded stranger.

"What's goin' on?"  She asked as her eyes were wide with fear.

"Spike,"  Giles said gently, This is my friend Ky-Doung.  He can help to decide why you are not feeling well at the moment."

As the shaman moved closer to the bed, Spike tried to play off her illness.  "'M fine..."  She replied unconvincingly.

Giles stepped closer.  "We may have the answer, Spike.  No one here will hurt you."

Spike began to pant as she brushed her long locks out of her face. Her voice was caught in the back of her throat.  "Angel."  She whimpered as the dark vampire immediately was at her side grasping her tiny, pale hand.  He whispered encouraging words in her ear.  She finally nodded a bit as her face was buried in his neck.  Angel turned to the two and also nodded, giving permission for the shaman to approach.

The shaman spoke in broken English.  "Lay...down...her...now."

Angel obeyed and he aided the trembling vampire to the supine position.  She kept her head turned away, trying to ignore the strange man.  She panted loudly as she felt him near her.  Angel whispered in her ear.  He told her how much he loved her and it would soon be over.

The shaman started at her head and his hand was just above her face. He chanted as he moved his arms in a circle and slowly traveled down Spike's body.  He never made physical contact with her.  After about ten minutes, he abruptly stopped.  He looked at Rupert and calmly nodded his head.  He slipped his arms back into his large sleeves and stood quietly.  Giles coughed and removed his glasses.   "Shall we return to the lobby?"  He spoke to Angel and Spike.  "I will explain when we arrive.  You have my word."

Angel was about to protest but decided against it.  Instead, he aided Spike up and they slowly returned downstairs.  When they arrived, Wesley, Cordelia, and Gunn were sitting on the couches.

Giles waited until the entire group was seated and then he cleared his throat.  Silence befell the lobby.  Suddenly, Spike spoke.  "What the bloody hell is goin' on, Giles?"    Her voice sounded worried and scared.

"Since I returned to England, I have been searching through texts and prophecies regarding your change."  He looked squarely at Spike.

"I told you to leave well enough alone!"  She stood up angrily.  "Why can't you respect that?"  Her blue eyes flickered to a yellow hue.

"I wanted to Spike.  But, there had to be a reason for this.  The demon that bit you is not capable of inducing such a change."

"I don't want to talk about it!"  She threw her hands in the air.  "I just don't want to be sick anymore.  What does this have to do with anything?!"  Angel stood and placed his hands gently on her shoulders.

"Hear him out, honey."  He said calmly as he brought her back to sit on the couch.

"Once I had access to the Watcher's Council resources, I was able to do more research.  One prophecy that I had read previously was the Kalleikrein Prophecy.  I did not have the complete works until recently.  In it, there is mention of the soulful vampires."  He paused as he saw Angel sit up straighter.  "It alludes to the former Scourge of Europe joining together in their fight and quest for redemption."  Angel and Spike grasped each other's hands and squeezed tightly.

Angel interjected.  "What does this have to do with Spike feeling sick?"

Giles pardoned their impatience because he knew how taxing this was for the two vampires.

Wesley spoke.  "Joining together, Giles?  What does that mean?"

The Shaman answered.  "Prophecy...discusses...Child of Light...born from former darkness."  He bowed to the group and proceeded upstairs.

"Huh?"  Cordelia added as she looked at Angel whose eyes seemed to widen.

Giles continued.  "A Child is to be born to the soulful vampires. This Special birth will create a being who will play an important role in the Apocolypse."

"There's always one of those around the corner."  Gunn said flippantly to lighten the mood.

"According to the text, it may be THE APOCOLYPSE."  Giles stopped for the moment to look closely at Spike.  He worried as he saw no emotion playing upon her face.  She had disengaged her hand from Angel's and sat slightly away from him.  "For all the death and destruction the soulful vampires were responsible for, they will create a life that will have a major role in averting the annihilation of mankind."

Angel shook his head to process all the information. He stood up. "So, you're...saying...that...Spike's pregnant?"  He said with shock in his voice.

Giles nodded.  "Ky-Duong confirmed my suspicions upstairs."

"Wow!  Spike's having morning sickness!"  Cordelia exclaimed as she smiled at Gunn and Wesley, who looked as shocked as Angel.

Spike's head slowly rose to face the group.   Her voice was shaky as if she could barely keep a hold on her emotions.  "So...my...change?"

"It is permanent."  Giles said quietly as he knew how devastating that fact may be for the blond vampire.  "The Powers that Be predefined your role in creating the Child of Light to be that of the Mother.  It has been foretold that the two Soulful Vampires would one day return to each other."  Giles answered tentatively.

Spike clenched her teeth before she stood up.  "Foretold?  So everything that's happened to me?  My Sire abandoning me?  Dru?" Angel hung his head.  "The Chip?  The Rape?  Was that predestined by the Powers too?"  Tears poured from her eyes as she gasped.  "Who are they to bloody play with me?  How do you know this will be any different!?  Is this my penance?"  The realization hit her. "Oh, God! She felt like the walls were closing in on her as she frantically looked in all directions for a way out.  She needed air.  She stumbled towards the exit and burst through the doors into the courtyard and fell to her knees sobbing.  She held her arms around her as she let all of her emotions out.  After some time, she felt that she had no more tears to cry. She sensed Angel presence behind her, but did not turn around.

"Go away."  She said bluntly as she stared at the ground beneath her.

"Will, we need to talk."  He said with concerned as he inched towards her.

"Don't call me that.  Or didn't you hear?  Won't ever be a bloke again."  Her voice was devoid of emotion; that scared Angel immensely.

"Let's go inside and talk, honey."  Angel shivered.  "It's chilly out here.  I don't want you to get sick."

"Doesn' matter."  Spike said.

Angel walked up to Spike and crouched down in front of her.  He took her by the shoulders gently and looked her intently in her crystal blue eyes.

"YES, it does.  YOU MATTER TO ME, SPIKE.  You are the reason I can face a new day.  You are the reason I can continue to fight for what's right.  Do you know how amazing you are?  Despite all you have been through, you still try.  With a chip only, I would have continued to be evil.  I would have found a way."  Angel's eyes sparkled while Spike's lip trembled.  "You persevered and changed.  You made friends and gained a father figure.  You fought for good, even when you didn't have to.  You slowly let your Soul find it's way back."  He stroked her long hair and then her cheek.  "We may never be able to make up for all we have done, but we can try.   Together."  He smiled at her. "William, Will, Spike, and whomever you are and become, I will ALWAYS love you.  YOU will be the Mother to OUR child."  He laughed.  "OUR CHILD, Spike.  It's not a punishment, honey.  It's our reward.  It's a miracle.  Don't you see?  We're going to have a special baby.  We can fight along side our child."  He embraced Spike as he stood them up. "I love you, Little One."  He whispered as he placed his forehead on hers.

"It's just a lot to take in, you know?  But I think...somehow I knew...I feel different...it's so hard to explain..."  She sighed happily as she looked into her Sire's eyes.  She knew this is where she was supposed to be: in the arms of Angel.  "Gods, I love you so much Liam...We can do this, right?"   She said as they brought their lips together and shared a kiss.

"Whatever the future brings," Angel said when he broke the kiss, "we'll face it together.  As a family.  I will always be by your side."  He stood back a step and placed his hand over her belly. Spike grinned as she placed her hand over his.  She laughed as Angel picked her up and spun her a few times.

"Better stop that mate, or I'll puke all over ya!"  He set her down and the two reentered the hotel hand in hand.

Everyone relaxed when they saw Spike smiling and laughing.  They breathed a sigh of relief.  Cordelia and Gunn left the hotel for a time and returned with champagne.  They all held plastic cups filled with the libation with the exception of Spike. She scowled playfully when she realized she could no longer drink alcohol.  Her cup was filled with blood.

Spike stood by Angel holding his hand.  They were each other's strength.  She dropped her head for a moment to think.  She raised her cup as the eyes of her friends befell upon her.  "To a new life!" She smiled warmly.  The road ahead may not be easy, but they would all face it together.
