Wesley watched the two vampires avoid each other for
several days. He knew that Katrina was a dangerous
temptation for Angel and Cordelia had confirmed his
suspicions when she told him about how she had found
them on the roof together. Wesley did, however, feel
sorry for his quiet brooding friend, the vampire
deserved some happiness in his life and the woman
seemed to make him so. Wesley had been trying to
access the information Angel had asked him to but the
Council was incorrigible. They were denying him any
information because of his relationship with the
vampire. Finally Wesley was able to contact an old
friend involved with the Council who was going to fax
him a picture of the next slayer as a favor repaid to
Wesley. Wesley knew that the Council did not know the
names of the future slayers until they were needed but
they did, for some reason, have a picture of this one
in particular. Wesley wondered why but then dismissed
the thought as he waited. The fax was coming at
midnight and the clock read 11:59. Wesley suddenly
wondered what Angel’s next course of action would be
if Katrina was indeed a future slayer but his many
theories were put on hold as the fax machine began to
respond to an incoming call.
Katrina steeped out of the shower and quickly wrapped
a towel around her pale body. It had been nice to
stand under the warm water and not think of anything
at all. She sighed, the memory of her and Angel on
the roof bombarded her mind for the hundredth time
that day. This time instead of pushing it away and
thinking of something else, she closed her eyes and
allowed the memory to fill her. They were so natural
and perfect together. It was like they were two
puzzle pieces that finally found what they fit with.
She wondered what would have happened if Cordelia
hadn’t interrupted but pushed that thought out of her
mind knowing Angel’s soul was too important for her to
try to take. She wanted him but the risk was far too
great. She sighed again.
"Is this what love feels like?" She asked the empty
bathroom.
Every cell in her body had screamed out to him that
night, and she felt it every time they were in a room
together since. She felt awful when he wasn’t around
her and she couldn’t seem to get him out of her head.
She shrugged, being a vampire wasn’t all Dru had made
it out to be. She left the bathroom to put some
clothes on. Cordelia had brought her some things so
Katrina wouldn’t have to wear the historical garb
Drusilla had liked so much. She decided on a light
blue dress that was long but not medieval. It was
storming outside and Katrina wanted to go to the roof
and watched the lightning paint the sky. As she
passed the office on her way up, she noticed that
Angel, Cordelia and Wesley were all there
conferencing. It was about her and she knew it but
didn’t care, there was a storm to watch for now.
Three pictures lay in front of Angel on his desk. He
sat back in his chair, put his hands to his face and
turned away from his friends. The pictures were of a
young teenage girl who obviously didn’t know she was
being photographed, in the first picture she was
crying. The third picture had ‘#172 Status:
deceased’ written across the bottom of it. Angel
turned back to look at them one more time, it was
Katrina without a doubt.
"She had been just as beautiful alive." He thought
sadly.
"Well at least we know the answer to Katrina’s
secret." Wesley tried to be cheery. He saw that
Angel was struggling with some inner turmoil.
"Yeah, and it explains everything about her."
Cordelia tried to follow Wesley’s lead.
"She will be a very useful ally." Wesley added.
"How do you tell someone about the wonderful destiny
they were to have as a human? How can I tell her she
has become what she was born to kill?" Angel asked
them. "How can I tell her?" He said to himself as he
stood to find her.
Cordelia was just about to answer him until Wesley
placed a hand on her shoulder as an indication that it
wasn’t a question she could answer. They watched as
their vampire friend left the room to find Katrina.
Angel searched the apartment finding no sign of
Katrina. A tiny pang of fear crept into him, what if
she left after she learned the truth? What if she
couldn’t handle what he knew about her? He didn’t
want to think about such things, right now all he
wanted to do was find her.
"Would she have gone out into the storm?" He thought
as he approached the door to the roof of the building.
He exited the building into the storm, he felt her,
she was out in it somewhere. He was soaked in seconds.
"Katrina!" he yelled into the howling wind and rain.
When she didn’t answer him, he started to search for
her.
"What is she doing out here?" He wondered allowed.
He saw her then, laying on the ground. He ran to her
and quickly picked here up. He started to head
towards the door into the building. She was shivering
in his arms and crying. She was barely conscious.
"I’m so sorry Drusilla." She sobbed incoherently into
his chest.
Angel didn’t understand but, for now, he didn’t care.
He reached the entrance to the building and, closing
the door behind him, disappeared inside.
Katrina had been asleep since she had passed out in
Angel’s arms as he was carrying her out of the storm.
She had lay there sleeping as he had removed her
soaking clothes and replaced them with an oversized
men’s dress shirt to sleep in. She had been sleeping
for about an hour now with him quietly guarding her
bedside. Suddenly, the nightmares she had been
running from had caught up to her and her entire body
began the writhe. Her unnecessary breath quickened
and her moans turned into screams. Angel reacted
instantly, gathering her into his muscular arms and
gently rocking her.
"Shhhh." He soothed as she slowly awoke crying.
"Oh Angel." She sobbed into his chest. "I’ve done
something horrible."
"Whatever it is," he said, "it isn’t as bad as some of
the things I have done."
He held her so close and finally, somehow, in their
embrace their lips found each others. It was a kiss
of pure need, want, and desperation. The two
creatures lost all coherency of their actions as they
indulged in the other. The second their lips touched,
both vampires were flooded with the images of the
others life.
Katrina saw Angelus as a boy, the numerous women he
seduced as a man in Galaway, then he, himself falling
for the seduction of a Master vampire, Darla. Her
image burned into Katrina’s mind. In those precious
moments she saw all Angelus’ fury, the torture, the
pain, and the horror he inflicted on humanity. He
made William the Bloody later known as Spike and he
made Drusilla, only after destroying her sanity. She
then saw his curse for killing a Gypsy girl. He had
become Angel. She saw his struggle to understand his
soul and his purpose, then she saw him see Buffy for
the first time. The images of him losing his soul and
Angelus’ new terrorization of the only person he had
ever lover flowed threw Katrina. She then saw the
replacement of his soul, his lover killing him, hell,
his rebirth into this world and finally Angel leaving
his love for the safety of them both. In the few
moments that their lips touched she experienced and
felt his entire life. She knew him completely and
tears ran down her face for him.
Angel, also seeing images of her, finally got to see
everything that was Katrina.

She had been born Katrina Lillian Brock. She was an
only child but not spoiled, cherished. Her parents
loved her very much. She had been a good student,
daughter, and teenager. She was a musician and a
writer. She loved animals and people but, unlike any
teenager, had felt like an outsider. She was
seventeen when her parents were killed in a fire. She
had been forced to live with her aunt. The loss of
her parents had left her dead inside, she became very
depressed and forgot about any of the passions she had
had before their death. When she had met Drusilla she
was contemplating suicide, believing nothing could be
worse than the life she had then.
It had been a dreary night and Katrina had left her
home to blow off steam after a fight with her aunt
about her grades. They were slipping, everything in
her life was slipping.
"Hello." Drusilla had come up from behind her and
startled her.
"Who are you?" Katrina asked the strange woman, she
was dressed in something that looked ancient.
Drusilla had thrown her head back and laughed then.
Katrina was a little surprised at the woman’s
behavior, she was asking like a mental patient.
"I’m your grim reaper darling." Dru had said then and
grabbed her by the arm.
Drusilla’s game face slid into place ready to suck the
girl dry but Katrina had fought her. It seemed that
all her pain lashed out at the creature attacking her.
She had almost escaped leaving Dru with a broken arm
but she had tripped on a fallen tree branch allowing
Drusilla enough advantage to knock Katrina out cold by
kicking her in the head.
Katrina felt Dru’s fangs tear into her neck, the scar
would remain with her forever, then Dru forced Katrina
to drink from her open wrist before the poor girl had
passed out.
When Katrina awoke it had been like being born.
She remembered nothing of her past and was left to
deal with a deranged sire. Drusilla found pleasure in
constantly betting her for no reason. Dru’s mood
swings were horrible, she would stare Katrina for days
then send her out to hunt for both of them on the
verge of exhaustion. The fledgling had nearly been
caught several times but Dru hadn’t cared either way.
She told Katrina next to nothing and expected her new
found childe to learn how to hunt an her own. Katrina
soon came to hate Dru and soon vowed to escape. There
had to be better company out in the world than the
creature that called herself ‘Mummy’.
Then one night the opportunity presented itself.
Drusilla had sent her out to bring back ‘something
young’. When Katrina had returned with Dru’s dinner
she discovered the warehouse where they had been
staying was surrounded by a mob of people with
torches. They must have figured out where they were,
Katrina was sloppy in her hunts so it was only a
matter of time. They mob circled the building ready
to torch it. Katrina long forgot her pray and fled.
She only thought about Drusilla for a second but then
felt it was her sire’s fault for not teaching her to
be a better hunter. Katrina fled that night as the
mob fell upon the building, they burned it to the
ground. As far as Katrina was concerned, Drusilla had
died in the fire.
Katrina, free, had then traveled Europe finding other
vampires with the same disposition as her sire. She
was looking for the only vampires Dru had ever
mentioned, Spike and Angelus. She finally learned
after months of searching that Angelus now went by
Angel and was the infamous vampire with a soul. It
didn’t take her much longer to find him in Los
Angelus.

Their lips parted. Both vampires sat back to absorb
everything they had seen and learned about one
another. Angel understood why Katrina had ran from
Dru. Thankfully vampires didn’t scar or poor Katrina
would look like a road map from all the wounds Dru had
inflicted. How Katrina had kept her sanity, Angel
would never know. She was so brave and Angel admired
her for it. He finally knew her past too, the past
she had no recollection of but from what he knew it
wasn’t a past worth remembering. Katrina had no human
life to want to return to. He was glad she had found
him after all her suffering. He knew he would do
anything to help and protect her.
Katrina understood Angel and Angelus both. She had
seen both the eyes of a demon and the eyes of a saint
in the same body. She understood why he wanted to
fight evil from his guilt and his carefully built
walls against love.
They looked deeply into each others eyes and
understood themselves and each other all the more.
"You understand now?" She asked him already knowing
the answer.
"Yes," he said softly, "but Drusilla may not have
died in the fire."
"I know." She smiled sadly. "I just hope, if she is
still out there, that she never finds me."
"She never will if you are here." Angel whispered.
He put his arms around her back and pulled her close
to his chest. Their lips found each others within
seconds. This time their kiss was hard and full of
only need for another. They clung to each other
allowing the pleasantness of anothers body take them
over. Katrina allowed him entry to her mouth and he
aggressively claimed her tongue with his own. It had
been too long since he had felt the warmth of a
woman’s mouth and body. She wrapped her arms around
his neck and ran her fingers through his hair. He
lifter her into the air and onto his lap. Her legs
snaked around his back. He put his hands on her face
and ran his fingers into her hair. He laid her on her
back onto the bed. She struggled to free his shirt
from his shoulders finally resorting to ripping it
open sending buttons across the floor. Their lips
separated for a brief moment as Angel pulled her shirt
over her head and tossed it across the room. He
claimed her lips again then left them as he kissed his
way down her neck to her breasts. She moaned as she
threw her head back.
"This can’t be really happening." She thought. It
all felt too good to be real.
She closed her eyes as he ran his hand down her side.
Then something happened, as she felt his fingers on
her thigh an image of Angelus flashed threw her mind.
It was so disturbing it terrified her.
"Angel." She forced his name.
"Hmmmm." He was lost in his passion.
"Angel, we need to stop." She said as she tried to
wiggle out from under him.
It was the hardest thing she had ever done, stopping.
He looked up at her with his eyes full of lust and
passion. Their eyes locked and he knew instantly
understood. He stood, grabbed his shirt from the
floor and left the room. She sat there, on his bed,
the taste of his still on her lips and wept.
She didn’t wait for him to return, she made up her
mind in seconds to leave. She grabbed what little she
had in the apartment and wrote him a short letter.
Angel
We are both cursed. I leave you now in hopes that
someday we will be able to be together. I love you
and I will come back to you.
Katrina
As Angel read her words that night he felt nothing but
sorrow for losing her but he knew she was trying to
save them both.
