Rupert Giles was reading a comic book. He had found it underneath his couch while he was doing some cleaning. He knew that Xander must have left it there. He found it quite enjoyable, though a bit unrealistic. Please, a man that dresses as a bat? Where do these people get their ideas. Give him a good demon and he was happy. But this, this was entertainment. He heard the phone ringing, and guiltily shut the comic. Taking a deep breath, he felt ridiculous. What should it matter if he was taking a break? Shaking his head and laughing at his stupidity, he answered the phone.
"Yes?"
"Is this Mr. Giles?"
"Yes it is."
"Rupert Giles?"
"I think we've established my identity. Who may I ask is this?"
"Consider me a friend."
Giles began to feel irritated. "Yes?"
"The council gave me your name."
"Oh....well...what can I do for you?"
"It's what can I do for you."
"I'm beginning to feel a migraine."
"Sorry. I called to give you a warning."
"Is this a threat?"
"NO! Not at all. You know Willow?"
"What is this about? How does it concern Willow?"
"There is a nasty man coming after her. He believes that she is the only one that can stop his rise to power. Some prophecy or other....He will make a move before seven days have passed from tomorrow. If you keep her safe until then, he will no longer be a threat."
"That makes no sense. Why would he believe Willow could stop him?"
The voice sighed. "I don't know! You should be concerned about how to keep her safe, for Pete's sake. Now, he knows the slayer and the wolf and the mor..their mortal friend, Xander I believe? So, her staying with one of them or yourself is absolutely out of the question. You will need to discuss another alternative. Now, I must be going. Please, do keep her safe. She needs to be watched night and day. It may also be a good idea if she has no contact with those of you he knows. Just an idea. Toodles."
Rupert hung the phone up and immediately dialed Buffy. "We need a meeting. Now. Call the others...Oh, don't forget Spike. I am afraid we are going to need his assistance this time."
Fate smiled. He knew the watcher was the right
choice to contact. The man had all ready figured out how to keep little
Willow safe. Fate flipped his cell phone closed and put it back in his
pocket. Thank God for technology. Before it, his job had been much more
difficult. He decided to run a few quick errands before checking back for
the meeting. He wanted to see his children's reactions to the news. That
should be quite enjoyable. Yes, this was definitely a great plan. Laughing,
he disappeared.
