~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
It had been three years since Spike had left, three years since her whole world came crashing down around her. But somehow she had survived. Something inside of her had told her to get up, take a shower, eat, and go to her classes. So she had, she'd gone to all her classes and made up all her work. Somehow, she had kept going. It didn't mean that she had moved on but she had survived.
She remembered the first time that she had walked back into that class room after her two week cry-festival. She had come about ten minutes early and explained that there had been an emergency and that's why she couldn't come to class. She got all her work and the notes that she needed and went to sit down. She didn't have her normal smile or bounce in her walk and she knew that her teacher had noticed because of the small frown that was on his face. She also noticed that Buffy seemed a little worried but it didn't matter. Buffy had asked her what was wrong and Willow had just looked at her ex-friend and said, "I'm sorry but why would you care? You abandoned me because of the person that I fell in love with and now you ask if I'm okay? Fuck off." Buffy hadn't bothered her after that.
Willow wasn't sitting by anyone and really didn't mind. She'd chosen a seat near the back since she had missed so much. She had hidden herself in a corner so that she wouldn't be noticed either. Then a boy walked into the lecture hall and walked up to where she was and sat down saying, "Hope you don't mind if I sit here, could never stand to see a beautiful woman sit alone." Willow just laughed and they shared a smile.
The two of them had been friends since their first year in collage after they had met in the book shop. He had been interested in Buffy and had tried to get Willow to set him up with her but since it was after the whole Spike episode Willow had told him that Buffy didn't like her choice in a boyfriend and didn't want to be friends with her anymore. He'd lost interest in her after that, not liking someone who would abandon her friend just because of her love choice. Willow could tell that Buffy liked him and was giving her evil glares for it. Now they were in their fourth, and last, year in collage and they were still good friends.
"Riley, you know that you shouldn't go around calling girls beautiful, they might get the wrong impression," Willow had said with a wink.
"I'd never say something that I didn't mean," Riley had replied.
The two of them had grown closer and Willow told him about Spike leaving and that's why she hadn't been in class. Riley had helped her through it all, telling her that it wasn't her fault and that Spike was an idiot. Eventually Willow had gone out patrolling to get her anger out. That's when the big stuff had happened.
She'd been kicking three vamps asses easily and had dusted the first two. Now that there was just one left Willow decided that it would be fun to just wail on it for awhile. So she had gone into 'kick the shit out of it' mode. She hadn't noticed the three soldiers that had come out of the woods to help her when they had seen the 'hostile'. They had been very surprised to see the little red head not only kick it's ass but then dust it. She'd turned around to see three guys in army outfits and weird masks on. Her eyes got really big, especially when she saw then guns they were holding. She dropped back into fighting stance, deciding not to go down without a fight.
Before she could even get a word out, a very familiar voice said, "Willow?" in a disbelieving voice.
"Who are you?" Willow said, still scared but now curious.
The soldier took off his mask and reveled the face of Riley Finn.
"Riley! You're part of the Initiative?!?" Willow yelped.
Riley paused at what she said, "How do you know about the Initiative?"
Willow hesitated, she didn't want him to hate her or think that she was evil or something, "Well, umm, remember how I told you about Spike?"
"Yeah," Riley said, confused at how that had anything to do with anything.
Before Willow could say anything the two soldiers behind Riley came up and said, "Sir, she knows shouldn't we take her back to base?"
"Stand down, she's obviously not a threat," Riley said to the lower ranking officers.
Willow gave Riley a sorry look and said, "Well Spike was the vampire that escape, you know with the chip that made it so that he couldn't hurt humans?"
"You were involved with Hostile 17!" Riley choked out. He couldn't believe it, the last four years she had been telling him about the person, no *thing*, that he had been trying to recapture.
"Well, umm, yeah," Willow said uncertainly. She was getting scared because of the guns that were being pointed at her from behind Riley.
Riley saw the fear in her eyes and turned around. Seeing them pointing their guns at Willow he yelled, "Forest, Graham stop! Go back to base now! She's not a hostile she's human I have classes with her for gods sake! I mean come on she just dusted three vamp-" seeing there looks he corrected himself, "-hostiles without our help. Just. . .go back to base."
Willow ended up explaining everything to Riley and they started a steady relationship. After they finished collage they were both offered jobs in NY and they had excepted. They ended up getting an apartment together and Riley had proposed. So that's why she was here, right now. Tomorrow she was getting married to Riley Finn, she would become Willow Finn. She was marrying Riley Finn, the man that she didn't love. That's why she was here, in upstate NY, looking for vampires to dust.
Three vampires ran out of the bushes in front of her and Willow sighed with relief. 'Finally something to kill!' They charged her and Willow easily evaded he first two and staked the third. The other two then came at her from both sides, she wasn't scared. Using the hidden stake holders hidden underneath her jacket sleeves she made a motion and two stakes popped out right at her wrists and she just held her arms out and the vamps pretty much staked themselves.
Willow was happy, a little bit of stress lifted. Then about thirty vamps came out of the bushed around her and Willow looked down and gave a silent, "FUCK!" Before dropping back into fighting stance. She staked about ten of them but the other twenty swarmed around her and held on in a way that made it impossible to move. She waited for the impending bites when she heard the lead minion say, "NO! Stop, she's obviously a slayer, the master will want her. Master and Mistress will be very happy when we bring them this little prezzie."
Willow couldn't believe it. Not only did these idiots think that she was a slayer but they were taking her to their 'Master and Mistress'. Great, two master vampires in upstate New York that she knew nothing about. 'I really should have stayed in tonight. Well at least I'll be killed by real vampires, not fucking minions.' Willow thought morbidly.
They carried her to a large house on the top of the hill. It was dark on the outside and surrounded by trees, Willow wasn't surprised that she hadn't seen it on her drive up here. They opened the large door that led to the opening of the castle like house.
The lead minion yet again stepped out and yelled, "Master, we have brought you something." His voice echoed throughout the house.
Willow could hear someone walk into the room but because of all the minions, she couldn't see what they looked like.
"Master, please do not be angry. I know that you don't like us bringing food back to the house but she is special. We caught her fighting in the east woods. She had killed three minions and then ten more when we surrounded her. She is a slayer!" Willow could tell that at first he had been scared but had then grown more confident.
"You think she's a slayer just because she dusted a few of you? What kind of bloody idiot are you?" a horribly familiar voice said to the now terrified minion.
'No, no, no! Not him! Why him?' Willow thought frantically, never loosing her calm look though.
"But but master she must be!"
"The slayer lives on the hellmouth and has since her sophomore year in high school. The other one is in a prison in Cally. So tell me, how the bloody hell can this chit be the slayer!" the voice said, getting louder and louder with each word.
Before the minion could make anymore excuses Willow heard a small gasp and knew that the minion had been dusted.
"Well lets see her then, no use wasting good blood," the voice said with a note of boredom.
Willow stood up straight and tall. She wasn't going to look scared or hurt in front of him.
"Ahh Spikey, that's not nice. If you break all the toys you have now, mommy might not buy you new ones," Willow said in a mocking tone as they pulled her in front of him.
Spike's face went from smug confidence to disbelief in under two seconds. Willow gave a cocky smile at this saying, "What's the matter Spikey? Did ya miss me?"
Spike couldn't believe it. It was his glorious fire goddess in the flesh. He hadn't known what had happened to her. Dru had forbidden him from finding out saying that if he tried to then she'd kill her. But here she stood now even more beautiful than before. Three years had changed her. She was 25 and she looked more mature. Her face didn't look as childish and she dressed even better than she had when she was with him.
"Willow?" Spike said in a small voice.
The minions didn't know what to do. There was obviously something between this girl and their master but they didn't know what.
"LEAVE!" Spike suddenly bust out, "ALL OF YOU! NOW!"
Then minions let go of Willow and left like they were told. They took looks back, wondering what was so special about this red head that had gotten their master so rilled up.
"Wow Spike a little tense?" Willow said while rolling her shoulders and neck.
"Red. . .what are you doing here?" Spike said quietly and scared for her.
"I was trying to relieve a little stress," Willow said easily.
"No I mean here. As in New York."
"I live here, have lived here for a couple years now. I don't actually *live* this far up state but with the ceremony tomorrow and everything," Willow said with a shrug.
"Ceremony?" Spike said uncertainly.
"Yeah, I'm getting married," Willow said with a glare.
Spike looked stung. He knew that he didn't deserve to look hurt, he had left her after all. But still, this was his Willow and she had fallen in love with someone else. "You're. . .You're getting married?"
"Yeah, I am. You remember Riley don't you?" Willow said evilly. She knew it wasn't nice to remind Spike of one of the soldiers that had caught him and put that chip in his head but she couldn't help it. He had hurt her so bad, she wanted to make him feel the same.
Spike flinched at the name and then looked at her incredulously, "You're marrying soldier boy? Why would you marry that arse?"
"Because that *arse* is the person that was there for me. He was there for me the whole time that *we* were together and then he helped me after *you* left me. If it wasn't for him then I probably wouldn't have made it through that whole ordeal. He even accepted me after he found out that I fought *evil* and that you were 'Hostile 17'. He didn't care, he was there for me," Willow said venomously as she walked closer to Spike until she was right in front of him. If he wasn't taller than her than they would have been nose to nose.
"Willow," Spike said softly, he didn't know what to do. He couldn't tell her the truth or else Dru would kill her. He'd tried killing Dru but he just couldn't, she was his sire.
"DON'T!" Willow screamed at the vampire before he could finish, "I don't want to hear it okay! I don't want to hear about how you and Dru are together and in love! I don't want to hear about how I wasn't good enough for you! Please just. . . don't."
Her voice had started out strong but by the end it had turned into a whisper.
"Oh look at that, the fire tree found my Spikey," came an evil voice from the stairs.
Spike and Willow's heads shot up to see Drusilla smiling evilly at them. She looked smug but Spike could see anger and fear in her eyes.
"Don't worry Dru, she was just leaving," Spike said walking away from Willow and over to the stairs by Dru.
"No! She can't leave, the stars have said so. She knows where we are now, she must die. And then I can play in her blood," Dru said, her smile growing more evil by the minute.
Willow's eyes widened in fear and hate. This was the reason that Spike had left her, this was the bitch that had ruined her life! Now here she was talking about rolling in her blood like *she'd* done something wrong!
"Dru -," Spike started to protest but she cut him off.
"But first I get to tell her a little story. The one about how I made my sweet William leave his little fire tree. How I made him come or else I'd drink all his little trees' sap. It's such a wonderful tail, shouldn't we tell her."
At Drusilla's words Willow almost fell to her knees. Things fell into place in a way that she had never suspected. She had thought that Spike had just gotten tired of her, of humans but really Dru had threatened him. Now she was about to marry Riley, well if Dru doesn't kill me first, a man that she didn't love and Spike was stuck with Dru, a woman that he didn't love. This was just too much and Willow snapped.
"YOU BITCH!" Willow screamed as she ran at the vampiress. Spike didn't have time to stop her before she came crashing into Dru. She was pulling hair and punching as fast as she could.
Dru quickly took control the situation by grabbing Willow by the neck and pushing her against a wall, "You think that you could hurt me? That you could win? Spike is mine and we'll live forever together, without any little trees getting in the way."
Dru tightened her hold on Willow's neck and she stopped the air flow completely. Suddenly Dru's face changed into one of confusion as she looked down at her chest and turned to dust.
Willow started to fall but Spike quickly caught her and held her, saying quietly, "It's okay pet, it'll all be okay. It's alright, Spike's here for you."
Willow quickly threw her arms around his neck and pulled him to her.
"Goddess Spike, I love you! I'm so sorry, oh god I miss you."
"I know pet, it's okay."
"Oh my god Riley!"
"What? Bloody hell soldier boy's here?" Spike said quickly turning his head to look behind him. Seeing no one he gave the redhead an odd look.
"No not that. I'm supposed to marry him tomorrow!"
"Then don't go pet! Come on, we'll leave tonight. I know you pretty well and I'm guessing that you made him get a separate hotel than you didn't ya?" Spike questioned, at her nod he continued, "So, well go to the hotel, nab your stuff and go!"
Willow looked at him like he was crazy for a second but finally gave in. She didn't love Riley, she loved Spike. She just hoped that Riley didn't too angry and try and hunt them down.
As if reading Willow's face Spike laughed and said, "Pet he doesn't even know that I'm around, none the less the true story. He'll never find us."
Eventually Willow and Spike made it to the hotel and 'nicked' her stuff. They booked a boat 'across the pond' to start their new life together.
On the boat to England Willow giggled and asked, "Hey Spike, they do have chocolate syrup in England right?"
"Bloody hell red, it's across an ocean not a time barrier. God it's not bloody medieval over there. . . well you know, anymore."
The End
