Basement Blues

*************************************

"Xander? Anya?" Willow called out, ushering Spike in and
shutting the door to the basement behind her.
"Heya Will!" Xander said, his eyes focused on the game in
front of him. The sounds of laser blasts and screams filled the air
as the dark haired youth tried in vain to get to the end of the
round. "No...no...NO!" He threw the controller down as a 'Game Over'
screen appeared on the screen. He looked at Willow for the first time
since she had walked in. "Oh, you brought Deadboy, Jr."
Willow sighed, giving her friend a stern look. Xander had
been anything but supportive of her relationship with Spike. She
tried not to take it personal, but it was hard - after all she was
being totally supportive of his relationship with a former vengeance
demon.
"Can I watch TV now?" The former demon in question asked,
looking up from the book she was reading. {Figures, 'Kama Sutra',}
Willow thought as she caught sight of the title.
"Go ahead. We're gonna watch some movies when Buffy and Riley
get here though." The young man turned to look at Willow. "You
remembered the movies right?"
"Yeah, Xan, they're in my bag." She felt Spike's arm wrap
around her shoulders and instinctively cuddled into it, smiling up
into her love's blue eyes. The door to the basement opened and Buffy
and Riley strolled in, smiling at the room in greeting.
"Yay," Spike muttered into her ear. "Now the fun can start."
Willow jabbed him lightly with her elbow. "What?" He smiled down at
her. "I can't help it if I have better ideas on how to spend a night
with you." He heard her heart speed up at the suggestiveness of the
comment.
"Behave." She murmured, leaning in to kiss him.
"Aagh!" Xander yelled, covering his eyes. "Do you HAVE to do
that?" He couldn't understand what his friend could see in the
vampire. He was cold and, well, dead! What would sweet little Willow
want with a big bad demon? He glared at the two of them.
"Sooo..." Buffy said, trying to break tenseness of the
moment. Xander walked away from the group, shoving some dirty clothes
into the washer. "What movies did you get Will?" She smiled
encouragingly at her red haired friend. Xander would come around
eventually, she was sure of it.
"They're in my bag." The witch gestured with one hand to the
bag near her feet. Xander's words hurt. A lot.
"Don't worry about it, luv," Spike kissed her cheek, rubbing
her arm in a soothing motion. He was going to have to speak with the
boy about his actions. It was one thing to insult him at every turn,
it was a different story to upset Willow.
"WILLOW!" Buffy gasped, pulling a black satin blindfold from
the bag. "Why do you have a blindfold in your purse?" Xander whirled
around to look, spilling a cup of liquid laundry detergent on himself
in the process.
Willow blushed furiously, grabbing the offending item from
her friend. "No. Comment."
"Yeah Slayer, Red doesn't kiss and tell," Spike chuckled. He
remembered the night of the blindfold very well. He could hear Xander
still sputtering in the background. "I'll be right back, per." His
lips met hers in a quick kiss before he rose from the couch, grabbing
Xander's arm. "We need to talk." He led the protesting boy up the
stairs.
Riley raised an eyebrow. He almost felt sorry for Xander and
knew the boy was damn lucky Spike still had the chip in his head. The
former commando had been wary of Willow's relationship with the
vampire at first, only growing to accept it when he saw how tender he
was with her. The remaining members of the group sat quietly, lost in
their thoughts as they waited for their comrades to return.
"Just give the rabbit some damn Trix already!" Anya muttered,
breaking the silence. "Damn kids!" The somber mood was broken and
they found themselves laughing.
"I'll get a movie ready," Buffy declared, jumping up with one
of the videos in her hand. She heard some yelling from outside and
decided to ignore it. {Xander has this coming to him.}
**********
Xander glared at the vampire in front of him. Spike had been
yelling at him for almost fifteen minutes and he was getting tired of
it.
"Don't you even care that you are hurting her?!?" Spike
screamed, enraged. His face shifted back and forth as his emotions
carried him away. "I bloody well dont care if you are rude to me, "
He jabbed a finger at his chest. "But you are hurting the one person
in the world I care about." He pointed back towards the house. "And
for some daft reason I thought *you* cared about her too." He lit a
cigarette, breathing in its sweet air as he waited for the twit to
speak.
"I do." Xander muttered. He had hurt Willow. He had been
nothing but a heel to her since he had found out about her
relationship with Spike.
"Then act like it!" The tip of the cigarette glowed red in
the twilight as he took another long drag. "Look," He whispered
fiercely, "You dont have to act like my friend. You dont even have to
be nice to me when she isnt around. But at least act like you have a
heart when she *is* around." He glared at the boy one final time
before disappearing back into the house, leaving Xander to deal with
what he had said.
**********
"We were about to give up on you," Willow's voice greeted her
friend as he made his way down the stairs. Xander smiled at her and
she knew everything was going to be okay.
"So what are we watching first?" The dark haired youth sat
down next to his girlfriend, pulling her into his arms.
"Titanic!" Buffy smiled, rising to push play on the vcr. The
males in the room groaned in unison, eliciting a laugh from their
dates. The lights flickered once, then darkness. "OOF!"
"Buffy? You ok?" Xander asked into the darkness.
"Yeah, just tripped over something." The slayer grumbled.
"That would be me, dear." Riley's voice cut through the
darkness.
There was a snap and hiss as Xander lit a match, deftly
lighting a candle. He sighed. "Must have blown another fuse." He
walked toward the fuse box, banging his shin. "OW!"
"Why don't you move out of this hell hole?" Spike muttered.
Xander felt his ears burning in the darkness. He hated living
in his parents' basement but if he hoped to save enough money to go
to school in the fall he had no choice.
"Money."
Spike nodded to himself. Here was the perfect opportunity to
try to make nice with his love's best friend. "You could come stay at
the mansion. I've got plenty of room."  The lights came back on, a
stunned Xander staring at him from across the room.
"If thats a joke its not very funny." Spike may not have been
his ideal roommate but anything was better than his current situation.
"No joke." The dead blue eyes of the vampire met the young
man's brown ones. "Think on it."
Xander nodded. He would definitely give it some serious
thought. Maybe Spike wasn't that bad after all. He obviously cared
for Willow. He spared the vampire a half smile as he took his place
next to Anya, groaning inwardly as the opening scene of Titanic
started.
"Thank you," Willow whispered to Spike. She caught his cold
lips with hers, not noticing the smile on her best friend's face as
he finally found peace with their happiness.
