I awaken shortly after sunset, immediately noticing that my sire's arms are no longer wrapped around me, and that the warmth of my human lover is missing as well. I open my eyes, and stretch like a cat, my muscles aching pleasurably from our activities the night before. After I exhausted Xander, Spike pounced on me, taking me over and over again. I shudder in pleasure just thinking about it. I can feel my mate close by, but can't hear the heartbeat of my mortal lover. Curious, I move off the bed, and leave the room, not bothering to cover my nude form.

I find Spike in the living room sitting in an armchair, dressed only in his jeans, smoking a cigarette. He looks up, and runs his eyes over the bruises and bite marks on my body from our rough matings the night before. His eyes darken in lust. "Evening, pet." He says huskily, pulling me down onto his lap.

I giggle, wrapping my arms around his neck. "Evening, Lover." I purr.

He loves it when I purr.

"Where's Xander?" I ask.

Ithink I see a shadow cross over his face ever so briefly, but then it's gone before I can actually be sure it was there. "He went out, luv." Spike tells me, brushing his lips over his mark on my neck.

"Out?" I repeat, thinking he went to pick up a few things from his house, or maybe to get some food--

Another thought crosses my mind, and the growl emerges from my throat before I can stop it.

He went to see the bitch.

"Now, pet, calm down..." Spike says, realizing what I'm thinking.

"Where did he go, Spike?" My voice is low. Calm. Deadly.

Spike sighed, seeing I wasn't going to let this go. "He said he wanted to tell the Slayer in person that he was out of it, and that she was on her own."

I growl again, my demon roaring in fury. "No. She can't have him! He's mine!" I hiss, my eyes shifting to the gold of my demon.

"He knows he's yours, pet." Spike said gently, trying to calm me.

"He loved her, you know. It was her for the longest time. She'll take him from me." I whisper, my demon snarling in contempt at the human emotions I carried over from my mortal life. My insecurity, fears I wasn't good enough, fears I wasn't worth anything...

"Shh." Spike murmured, wiping the away the tears I didn't even know I had been crying. "Any feelings Chubs had for the Slayer died when she staked you. He's going to tell her to piss off, and fight the Hellmouth by herself. He's not going anywhere. Unfortunately." Spike muttered the last part, rolling his eyes.

Spike's words calm me somewhat, but I'm still upset. I growl softly, and I know my eyes are flickering between my normal green, and the amber of my demon. "If she hurts him in any way, I'll skin her the same way I skinned her precious Mr. Gordo!" I growl. "I'll break every bone in her bitchy little body! I'll--"

My tangent is cut off when Spike pulls me into his arms and kisses me passionately, ravishing my mouth with his. When he finally releases my lips, we're both panting for breath we don't need. "I love it when you get homicidal." He says huskily, eyes dark with lust.

"I want her dead, Spike." I growl.

"I know, baby." He purrs against my neck as he licks his mark. "And doesn't Daddy always give his baby what she wants?"

I growl again. "I don't want her anywhere near my Xander!"

"Shh, pet." My mate tries to soothe me.

"I'm angry, Spike." I tell him.

"I know." He nods. "Use me, pet. Take it out on me."

I stare at him for a split second, before I pounce on him, attacking his lips with my own. He snarls against my lips, and pulls me closer.

My Spikey likes it when I play rough.

He carries me to the bedroom, and we channel my anger into something much more...constructive.

"You can't let her come between us, Xander." Buffy was saying. "It was a horrible accident, but it's over with, and she's gone. She doesn't need you anymore. *I'm* still here, Xander. *I* need you."

Xander just gaped at the blonde Slayer in shock. She wasn't listening to anything he said. He had told her that after Willow's death, he had lost whatever will he had to help her fight. It wasn't exactly a lie. He'd rather be with Willow than with the self-centered Slayer any day. He heard her words, and realized Buffy thought Willow was dead. She didn't know about Willow's new status as childe and mate of William the Bloody.

And he wasn't going to tell her, either.

He pushed down his anger at the cold, callous way the Slayer was talking about Willow as if she were some insignificant little thing that didn't matter. "You killed her." He accused, the words coming out of his mouth before he even realized he spoke them.

The Slayer flinched, and looked at the ground. "Oh, Xander..." She whispered. "It was true Willow and I had a falling out recently, but I never wanted her to die. You have no idea how hard this is for me, how I'm trying to deal with the loss of my best friend..."

Xander just stared at the blonde in front of him, barely recognizing her. He wondered if he ever knew Buffy at all. He heard her words, and wanted to hurt her, kill her, make her bleed.

She was lying through her teeth, and he knew it.

"Bullshit! You fucking bitch! You Goddamn fucking bitch!" A voice screamed. Buffy looked shocked, and Xander was just as shocked when he realized it was his own voice he was hearing, full of venom and hatred.

"W-What?" Buffy stammered, completely thrown. "X-Xander..."

"This will all fall down, like everything else that was..." Xander said as he looked at the girl he had thought himself in love with less than a year ago. "This too shall pass, and all of the words we said, we can't take back..."

Buffy looked confused. "What are you talking about?"

"I'm saying I'm not going to be one of Queen Buffy's little peasants anymore." He sneered. "Queen fucking Buffy. Center of the universe, right? Little miss Chosen One..."

"Excuse me?" Buffy said, getting angry.

Xander laughed at the look of shock on her face, and shook his head. "I can't believe I was so stupid. Now every fool in town would of left by now. I can't replace all the wasted days." He looked again at the girl he had thought to be so strong, courageous, and beautiful once upon a time. Now when he looked at her, all he saw a spoiled, self-centered, bratty little bitch.

He laughed again, thankful the blinders were finally off, and he could see what he had in front of him this whole time. What he had in Willow.

Buffy looked annoyed. "What are you talking about, Xander?"

"This will all fall down, like everything in the world. This too must end." Xander said. "I'm turning in my badge, Buffy. I don't want to play your little deputy anymore."

The Slayer's mouth dropped open. "You-you can't quit!"

Xander smiled, feeling happy for the first time in a long time. "Oh, yes I can. And I just did."

"Look, if this is about Willow's death, that was a horrible, horrible accident. I can't lose you, too." She said plantively.

Xander just shook his head. "Tell me one more time how you're sorry about the way this all went down." He looked at her, feeling nothing other than disgust and pity. "You fucked up, Slayer. The one that you wrecked won't take you back." He turned to walk away from her.

"You can't leave!" Buffy howled after him. "You need me! You've always loved me, remember? Face it, Xander, I *own* you!"

Xander smiled, knowing there was only one person who could own him, and she did. He turned around and walked back towards the Slayer, seeing the relief enter her eyes. "See, I knew you couldn't-" He cut her off by slapping her, knocking her back a few steps, startling them both. He smiled when he saw the Slayer wipe the blood from her lip, and his eyes glittered with malice. "It's over now, and I've gone without, 'cause you're everyone else's girl, and it seems to me you'll always be everyone else's girl. And I'm okay with that. You wrecked everything, Buffy. And I wouldn't take you back if you were the last beautiful girl in the world."

And with that, Xander walked away from the Slayer, ignoring her pleas and threats, and knew that things were never going be the same again.

He walked back to where Willow and Spike lived.

Home.
