Willow looked around the room at her friends. Forcing a smile so they couldn't see how unhappy she was. "Guys, everything is so great. Thank you. I'm gonna get a drink. Anybody else want," she asked? Everybody shook their head no. Willow got up and walked through the kitchen door. I hate birthdays she thought to herself. Especially mine. Another year gone. A time to reflect on my failures. A time to reflect on the love I don't have in my life. She looked around the kitchen almost as if she was lost. She grabbed a coke out of the fridge and looked out towards the back door into the darkness. The night seemed so comforting. The dark. The unknown to most people.

"Hey Wills, you ok," Buffy asked?

"Yeah. Be right there." Ok, Willow put on the happy face and then you can curl up in bed when they leave. As she walked back out to the main room, she saw the cake. It looked like it was on fire because of all the candles. Everyone started singing happy birthday. As Willow leaned down to blow out the candles, Xander reminded her to make a wish. She closed her eyes, made a wish and blew out the candles. After two hours of talking with her friends, they had decided to leave.

After they left, Willow looked around at the mess and sat down on the couch. The one person she wanted there tonight was no where to be seen. "He hadn't even bothered to show up for my own birthday," she said out loud to no one in particular. She never saw the figure standing in the extra bedroom looking down the stairs at her. She stood up from the couch and took a look around the house. She didn't feel comfortable in the house. The things in the house belonged to her parents. Willow made a decision. She climbed the stairs to her room and turned her stereo as loud as it would go. She pulled out a suitcase and started to fold some clothes.

Spike wasn't sure what was going through the head of his red-headed witch but decided that he should be involved. He pulled the cord of the stereo out of the wall socket and Willow turned around. A smile started across her face. "I thought you weren't coming to see me."

"I know I'm late pet, but you're hard to shop for."

"You should see the other gifts I got. You couldn't do any worse." She then added, "Except for Giles. Magic stuff."

"Well I didn't know what to get you so here it goes." He pulled a red bow out of his pocket and put it on the top of his head. "Well...?"

"I'm glad you decided to come over, I have to tell you something."

"Ok pet." He always had a thing for the redhead and enjoyed spending time with her. Enjoyed it too much. He felt so connected to her. Of course none of her scooby friends knew how much time the two of them actually spent together. Willow loved hearing all the stories of his past as a vampire and about when he was human. Spike had to admit he enjoyed having such a close friend. They would talk for hours. She always listened intensly to everything he said. He couldn't deny he liked the attention. He saw the suitcase laying on the bed and looked up at Willow.

"I was going to come and find you but you're here now." She looked into his eyes. "I'm leaving."

Spike froze when he heard the words come out of her mouth.

Spike felt like he was frozen. "Leaving, pet?" Mabey she didn't mean actually leaving. Just for tonight because it was her birthday. He decided to play along. "So pet, another night at the Bronze? Or a drink at Willy's?"

"I'm leaving town Spike." She stopped her packing to look up at him. "Unless you can think of a reason why I should stay."

At that moment he knew what he wanted to say. He wanted to tell her everything. "I can't think of any reasons luv." He lied to her and he lied to himself.

"Well I got a couple more hours of packing so...I guess this is goodbye."

"Bye, Red." He walked out of her bedroom door letting it shut behind him.

When the door shut, Willow broke down to tears. She couldn't believe it. He wasn't even upset. No hug. No real words. It was like he didn't care. She even told herself how stupid she was for caring for the blonde vamp. For loving him. She didn't know he was on the other side of the door also shedding tears.

Spike stormed out of the house looking for a demon to kill. Any demon would do. He got out the front door and sat down on the steps. She was his best friend. He looked up at the stars and his mind began to wander over his life before and his life now. He stood up and decided there was only one place he wanted to be. He went back in the house and silently crept up to her room. He stood inside the door frame and watched her tape up the last box. She turned around and saw him.

"Hello pet."

"Spike we already said goodbye. I don't want to do it again. I can't do it again."

"Neither can I luv. I don't want you to leave. You wanted a reason pet. Me. I don't want you to go because I want you here with me. You're everything to me. Please don't go Red."

Willow kissed him as he pulled her closer. "Spike?"

"Yeah pet."

"How much do you really like this town. I mean the rest of the scooby's are here and the slayer. I know you're the big bad and you have this whole big setup...Come with me. We'll leave this town."

"What are we waiting for Red?"

"Where should we go?"

"Anywhere you'd like pet."

As Spike leaned in to hug her. Willow whispered in his ear. "Mabey you could wear just the red bow tonight."
