Willow had tried to concentrate on the computer for most of the day. 'Why in Angel's eyes is it so wrong for me and Spike to be friends?' She had been glancing at them all day. Spike was glaring at Angel and Angel was ignoring him. It was the same thing they were doing five hours ago. Without a word, she got up and went into the kitchen. Grabbing a soda out of the fridge, she turned around and almost screamed.

Spike saw her about to scream and placed his hand over her mouth. "Didn't mean to scare you, luv," he told her before lowering his hand.

"Make some noise or something while you do that!" Willow then started to laugh.

"You're not going crazy on me, are you?"

"Not in the least. I forgot what it was like to have a vampire around.what it was like to have you around. Not that we were friends or even knew each other."

Spike nodded in agreement. "You're staying, right?"

"Why wouldn't I stay?"

"We both know I'm not know for my patience. Opposite, really. We really weren't friends and I wanna change that. But if you're not gonna stick around and I would understand why.then there's no point in me getting to know you."

"What reason would I have to leave?"

"I know back in Sunnyhell, you tried to calm the fighting. That doesn't work here. Angel isn't fond of me and the feeling is mutual."

"If I ever leave.I won't leave because of that. Just like I won't quit standing up for you. We never did that enough for you before. Even when you risked your life for us. Just like I told Angel, he's not gonna keep me away from you." Without another word, Willow walked out of the kitchen and back to the computer, a smile on her face.

Spike stood in the kitchen for a moment thinking about Willow. She was defending him and didn't really have a reason to. Hell, he had tried to kill her a couple of times. He started thinking about when he was first brought back and one thought entered his mind. His first thoughts.his first concerns weren't about Buffy. They were about Red. A girl he hardly knew.

Walking to the fridge, he pulled out a container of blood and heated it in the microwave. 'Why was he so drawn to her? What was she really like?' Hearing the start of an argument in the other room, he cleaned out his mug and placed it next to the sink.

~~~*~~~
"Why do you care so much what I do?" Willow asked Angel.
"I don't, except when it comes to Spike. You're my friend and my family and whatever Spike may think I don't have feelings for you."
"Why would he think that?"
"Because he always thinks that. And because it's what I did to Drusilla. I took her and fucked her just so he could hear."
"You're not helping your defense here."
"Look, I know him. He's sadistic and cruel, a demon."
"And what? Growing up the Hellmouth I'm sure I never saw any of those!"
"He's different. He'll use you and discard you without another thought. He'll."
"What? String up my goldfish like Christmas lights? Send us sketchings of us when we sleep? What is it you think he's gonna do?"
"Anything he can think of. Besides Angelus, he is the second most feared vampire and you're treating him like he's a friend. You can't turn your back on him for a second. You never know what he's planning."
Willow could feel Spike when he entered the room. She turned around to face him and their eyes locked. She gazed into his eyes and knew he had heard every word. Probably everything dead in a twenty-mile radius had heard every word. She turned back around. "You don't know Spike, Angel."
"Neither do you."
"You're right," she agreed. "I don't and I plan to change that. You weren't there Angel. You weren't there when Buffy died or when Spike tried to save Dawn from a Hell god. A HELL GOD! You weren't there to help us fight. You left. And yeah Spike tried to kill us all. Who hasn't? Kinda comes with the territory of knowing a Slayer. He fought beside us all and saved us more times than I can remember. You weren't there when he came back with the soul and."
"A soul he got because of Buffy!" Angel told her. They both saw her stiffen but neither knew why.
Spike had heard enough. He grabbed his duster and walked to the door. "I'm going out," he told them in passing. Taking a deep breath, he turned around and faced Willow. "Come with me, pet?" Seeing her smile he knew her answer was yes.
