At Odds

Willow trudged her suitcase down the steps from her apartment, *in the dead of night... no pun intended* she thought, after hearing the damn De Soto's car honking a bazillion times *you think he could shut it up? * She asked herself. She loaded the suitcase into the trunk and then went up front and sat down.

"You think you could shut up now?" Willow asked.

"Not my fault you take for bleedin' ever, pet." He said. He glanced at her, her skirt started to get higher and higher up her leg, from her fidgeting. Spike sped off, hoping that the daft skirt wouldn't go any higher, and hoping it would.

The black De Soto raced along the highway towards L.A. Willow sighed from her seat.

"You all right pet?" Spike asked. Willow nodded.

"Yeah, I just don't see why we had to go fight this demon in L.A." She grumbled. Spike shrugged.

"You had the whole Witch thing and I guess I had to see dear old dad." Spike explained. Willow didn't really care for the explanation. The reality of it was she hated having to be this close to Spike. Her crush on him was beyond control. * Stop it girl, you so need to breathe* she told herself.

Spike looked at the red head next to him. He loved the look in her eyes when she was lost in her thoughts. This happened a lot when he was around. But he didn't mind. She was the only one in the whole bloody lot who ever listened to him.

"So what is this thing again?" She asked. Spike shrugged.

"Some kind of demon that can only be banished by a witch. Angel figured you for just the witch." He said. Willow smiled. She liked being able to help on her own terms.

"Well a vacation from Sunnydale is good." She said thoughtfully.

"Yeah not too bad at all, Red." He agreed. They completed the rest of the journey to L.A. in silence.

At around midnight they arrived at Cordelia's apartment. Willow jumped from the car and raced to give Cordy a hug.

"Its about time you got here!" Cordy said. Willow smiled.

"Spike was actually driving in the speed limit." Willow said. Cordy looked at him.

"Is he sick or something?" She asked. Willow shrugged and grabbed her bag from Spikes hand.

"Come on let's go inside. I want to hear every detail of what I missed and I so need to eat." Willow continued as the girls disappeared into the house. Angel and Spike looked at each other quietly for a moment.

"So…" Angel started.

"So…" Spike continued. Willow popped her head back out the door.

"Don't forget to apologize!" She called to Spike. He shook his head, cursed inwardly and look down at his feet as Angel smiled.

"Apologize?" He asked.

"Nosy red head." Spike grumbled. "Yeah-sorry." He said it so fast Angel could barely understand him.

"I'm sorry, could you repeat that?" Angel asked.

"I'm sorry." He muttered. Angel put his arm around his childe.

"That's my boy." He said. Spike just shook his head as they walked into the house. *I'm so whipped *, he thought.

The girls sat in Cordy's spare bedroom which she was letting Willow use.

"Where does Angel sleep?" She asked casually.

"He sleeps in the other spare thank you!" Cordy said hastily. "Unfortunately." She added. Willow giggled.

"Crush thing still going on huh?" She asked. Cordy blushed and then turned on Willow.

"Oh and you're much better!" She exclaimed. "I can see it now. Mr. and Mrs. William the Bloody." Cordy teased. Willow turned as red as her hair. "Should I set this room up for two?" She asked. Willow shook her head.

"No! I guess Spike can have the couch." Willow said. Cordy nodded.

"We need to go after them." She groaned.

"Maybe we need incentive?" Willow asked.

"Like what?" Cordelia was at full attention now.

"How about little wager?" The red head suggested.

"I'm listening." Cordelia said.

"I bet you 6 months rent, that I could seduce Spike before you could seduce Angel." Willow said. Cordy was in shock at the proposal coming from the usually shy red head.

"The loser pays the winner six months rent on their apartment?" She asked.

"In a nutshell." She said.

"So you pay my rent, for six months, if you lose?" Cordy asked.

"And you pay mine, if you lose." Willow added sweetly. Cordy thought this over.

"You're on!" She said. The girls shook hands and the guys walked in.

"What are you two doing?" Angel asked, suspiciously.

"Nothing!" Cordy exclaimed in a high pitched voice. Both collapsed in a fit of giggles.

"Women!" Spike exclaimed. He and Angel left the girls to their plans.

The next morning Willow awoke to find Angels door closed and Spike asleep on the couch with the shades drawn. She watched him sleep for a few moments. *He is way too sexy *, she thought. She gasped as she felt a hand on her shoulder.

"Let the games begin." Cordelia said playfully. Willow smiled.

"May the best girl win." She said. They headed into the kitchen and began making some breakfast for themselves.

"I was thinking I oughta research the demon this morning." Willow said. Cordy shrugged. Her eyes strayed to the closed bedroom door. Willow smiled.

"Uh huh." Cordy replied absently.

"Then maybe we could do a little shopping." Willow continued.

"Uh huh." Cordy again replied.

"Did I tell you I staked Angel during the night?" Willow asked innocently.

"Uh huh." Cordy again replied. Then she blinked. "Wait what did you say?" She asked.

"Oh nothing." Willow said smiling. Her eyes were too straying to the entrance to the living room so she knew how Cordy felt. She finished her breakfast and got dressed. Then she opened up her laptop and began to work. *That is why I'm here *, she thought. After three hours she had found only a little bit on the Todesfall demon they were looking for. Cordy shook her from her computer hypnosis around noon.

"Lets go shopping." She said. Willow sighed and closed her laptop.

"I'm up for it." She said. The girls left to relax in Beverly Hills.

Around six o'clock Spike awoke. At once he realized that Willow wasn't around. *Damned chit* he thought. He didn't know why he was so hung up on her. He got up and pulled on a shirt. He walked in the sight of Angel sitting at the table reading greeted him.

"Evening Spike." Angel said looking up briefly from the papers in his hand.

"What are you reading?" Spike asked. Angel put the papers down.

"Some stuff Willow printed for me on the demon." He said. Spike looked around.

"Where are the chits?" Spike asked.

"Delia left me a note. They went shopping." He said. Spike raised his eyebrow.

"Delia huh? I don't suppose you two are shagging are you?" Spike asked. Angel choked a little on the coffee he had been drinking.

"No we aren't. Were just friends…" Angel's voice trailed a little.

"But?" Spike asked. He knew his sire too well for the just friends bit.

"So she's attractive. Are we done?" Angel said wanting to quickly end this particular conversation.

"So you wanna shag her?" Spike asked. Angel looked back at the papers and didn't answer Spikes question.

"I think we should go look for the demon. Willow says he might be hanging around Chinatown. I think that's our best bet." Angel hurried to grab his coat. Spike pulled on his boots.

"Oh you want her." Spike said. Angel sighed and they headed out the door.
