This is not a true drabble, and I'm aware of that. However many of the groups I'm in classify anything under 500 words as a drabble so I'm posting it that way to everyone so that I don't have to do many individual postings.

"Do you think you could love someone who's dead?"

He had been as surprised by the question as she was. He wasn't sure why asked it, but after it was out he realized he wanted an answer. She hadn't given him one, not really. She told him why Buffy couldn't, but that hadn't been his question.

He wanted to know if she could. If after all their talks, all she knew about him, could she love him? Could Willow see past the demon? See the man? Could she love the man? He had found more acceptance in her than he had in anyone in a very long time.

She seemed to understand both parts of him. She had seen first-hand what the demon could do; had been a victim of his demon more than once. She never suggested that he couldn't feel or love as Buffy had. She also seemed to understand the man, the part of him that did love, that didn't crave violence. Dru had never understood that part of him. Willow did understand; she knew that neither the man nor the demon could remain in control all the time. She understood that for nearly a hundred and thirty years the demon had ruled, had done things the man couldn't change, couldn't take back. She knew that those things were in the past, he may not like it, but he had accepted it.

She accepted all of that, just as he had accepted the thing she had done, things her friends couldn't or wouldn't understand. That's why he had asked the question, that's why he wanted an answer. He wanted to know if he was right about what she felt, did she truly feel the same bond he did, or was this another useless dream he was chasing.

The End
