Buffy Anne Summers
Portrayed by: Sarah Michelle Gellar
Buffy Anne Summers was first called to be a Slayer while she was
living in Los Angeles. Her first watcher was Merrick. However, with the threat
of vampires in the school, she ended up burning down the school gymnasium. Buffy
was expelled from her school and she and her mother moved to Sunnydale.

From there, Buffy thought that she would be able to forget about her calling and have a normal life; however, that was not meant to be. Rupert Giles, the new librarian at Sunnydale assumed the role of her new Watcher. She was faced with the fact that she couldn't escape her destiny, especially with what was going on in Sunnydale.
After Cordelia found out about Buffy and her weirdness, Buffy became friends with Willow Rosenburg and Xander Harris, who very quickly found out about the large vampire population in Sunnydale. Together, Willow, Xander, Giles, and Buffy all worked together in killing the demons, vampires, and other nasties that lived around the 'Boca del inferno' AKA The Hellmouth.
Her first villain in Sunnydale was the Master, a very powerful
vampire who was prophesied to come and take over Sunnydale. Buffy was also
prophesied to die.
However,
when she drowned from the Master, Xander and Angel were right there to rescue
her, which would later create problems because there would be two slayers.
Eventually, even Cordelia started helping. Oz, Willow's boyfriend, who was also a werewolf joined the 'scooby gang' eventually.
Angel, the vampire who was cursed with a soul by the Romani
gypsies, played an important part of Buffy's life. The two fell in love, despite
all of the problems that would eventually come with the relationship and on her
17th birthday, the two made love. However, because of this, Angel lost his soul,
once again becoming
Angelus.
Angelus evilly teased Buffy, murdered Jenny Calendar, killed Willow's fish, and
tortured Giles before Buffy was finally ready to stop him. However, as she was
getting ready to kill him and close Acathla, Willow performed the soul
restoration curse and Buffy was forced to send Angel to hell. Buffy fled
Sunnydale after everything that had happened and went to Los Angeles.
However, both Buffy and Angel retuned to Sunnydale. Now the two of them knew that they could never be together- the price was too risky. Meanwhile, Buffy had to deal with Faith, the 2nd slayer who ultimately went evil, the mayor and his plans for ascension, and Angel's eventual break up with her.
At the end of high school, the mayor ascended, the school got blown up, Angel almost died and Buffy had to force him to drink from her in order to save him, Faith ended up in a coma, and Angel left town. You could say that it was quite a senior year for Buffy Summers.
At the start of college, everyone started drifting apart. Xander
and Anya were becoming closer, Willow found a new relationship with Tara after
Oz left, and Buffy was so involved with Riley Finn that she never noticed a
thing. She was dealing with a government operation called the Initiative. Riley
worked in the Initiative with
Maggie
Walsh as the leader. Buffy become close to Riley and they eventually found out
about each other.
College changed things between the friends; however, in the end the scooby gang remained strong. They defeated Adam, a creation from Maggie and the Initiative, and life returned to a more normal state.
Glory, a demon-god from another dimension came to earth in order to find the Key and return to her home dimension. The Key was sent to Buffy to protect. However, only Buffy and her friends knew that the Key was her own kid sister, Dawn. Buffy promised herself that she would protect her sister, even though she knew that she never really had a sister.
Buffy's Mom discovered that she had a brain tumor, and she
eventually died from an anyuerisn. Buffy was lost on what to do. That along with
Glory and Dawn getting kidnapped all built up to her brain snapping and
basically sending her into a coma-like state. When she was back, Buffy knew what
she had to do. If Dawn was the key and she was needed to open and close the
portal, Buffy knew that Dawn would die- and there was no way that Buffy would
let that happen.
So when it came down to the final time- when the earth was getting destroyed by the open portal, Buffy saved everyone's' lives' by ending her own.
Months pass and the gang continue to fight in Sunnydale. Spike is now a full
helper and Dawn's babysitter while the rest of the gang perfect their
vampire-killing. However, Willow, Xander, Anya, and Tara are secretly planning
to bring Buffy back. Even though the gang doesn't think so, the spell
works and
Buffy
is brought back to life. She is forced to crawl out of her grave, but makes it
out and back into town. She and Dawn reunite back on the tower where Buffy had
originally died, and Spike was the first person to see her (Afterlife)
When she returns to the land of the living, Buffy finds it very hard to stay
connected. Because of Buffy's lie, little do her friends know that Buffy was
actually in heaven. Willow thought that Buffy had gone to hell after she died
and was determined to get her back. (Willow and the rest of the gang found out
about where Buffy had gone in Once More With Feeling.) Also, Buffy kisses Spike
for the first time in the Musical.

Giles returned once he heard Buffy was alive, but left at the end of "Tabula Rasa" to force Buffy to start living like an adult, something that she wasn't used to doing at this time.
She and Spike begin a very dark relationship. They sleep together for the first time in the end of "Smashed" and Spike refuses give up perusing Buffy to admit her love for him. Buffy tries to push him away and act as mean as she can, but Spike continues. However, Buffy continues to use Spike, but whenever Spike starts talking, she always gets mad at him and runs out.
However, since Buffy is so wrapped up in trying to "live" again, she barely notices what else is going on around her. It would take all season for Buffy to finally get everything figured out.
Dawn has turned into a kleptomaniac, Willow and Tara broke up, causing Willow to
get even deeper into her magic, and Xander was having second thoughts about his
marriage with Anya. At
the
same time, Warren, Andrew, and Jonathan all ganged up together to take down
Buffy and take over the world. At first, no one thought that Warren would turn
out as evil as he did; however, he shot Buffy in the chest and accidentally shot
Tara, killing her.
Willow's magic goes to the black arts when Warren kills Tara. Buffy is forced to
fight her best friend in order to get Willow to stop and realize what she's
doing, even though it it Xander who winds up saving Willow. In the course of
this, she finally discovers her reason for life: Dawn. Finally, Buffy has made
her revelation that Dawn is her reason for living and she *wants* to live to see
Dawn grow up.
At
the start of seventh season, Buffy is helping Dawn learn to fight vampires and
she lands a job at the new Sunnydale High School under the head of Robin Wood.
However, it's obvious that something weird is going on in Sunnydale once again.
Spike comes back from Africa and now she's got to worry about him, even more so now that he has a soul, something that shocks and surprises her. Then Willow comes back after learning how to control her powers in England. Pretty soon, however, the same saying is going on between the gang: From beneath you, it devours.
What is "it"?
"It" is the First, the first evil ever created and first seen in "Amends," in
3rd season. It can take on any human being's
shape,
provided that the human being is dead. Then, Potential Slayers start flocking to
Sunnydale and it's up to Buffy and the gang to start training them and preparing
for the inevitable war. Along the many are Kennedy, Rona, Vi, Molly, and Amanda.
Meanwhile, Buffy's got to deal with Spike, who is being used as an instrument
for the First without him knowing it. Spike doesn't know what he's done, but
Buffy takes him into her home while also trying to keep everything under
control. Buffy says she believes in Spike, says that he's becoming a better man,
right
before the Priests for the First come in and take Spike.
The first vampire for the First appears soon, a
Turok-Han, a super-strong vampire who is nearly
impossible
to dust, and Buffy must fight it. She fights it in front of all the Potentials
to show them that they shouldn't give up fighting either. After that, she is
able to go save Spike and bring him back to her
house. Now, with Spike able to help her, she starts training the Potentials that
are already in town, showing them what it's like to be the Slayer and what the
Slayer has to do during patrol.
However, when Spike's chip goes off, she must make the decision to either kill
Spike or take the chip
out.
Everyone is concerned at her decision for Spike, especially Giles. After that,
Buffy accepts a date with Robin, which is where she learns that his mother was a
slayer -- more importantly, she
was the slayer that Spike killed. Even though she now also has Robin to help
fight, she says that she's not ready for Spike to not be there with her.
Then, Buffy and the gang find a way to possibly get some help in order to fight the First. However, when Buffy is transported to a different world where the First Slayer and Watchers are, the "help" turns out to be a demon. Buffy refuses the gift that the Watchers are offering and is shown a look at what she has to fight -- a scene with 10,00 or more Turok-Hans ready for war. Buffy wonders if maybe she made the wrong decision.
Since Giles had noticed that Spike seemed to be clouding Buffy's actions, he and
Robin got together and planned a diversion for Buffy while Robin could kill
Spike. They almost succeeded; however, Spike got the upper hand of the fight,
even though his trigger was activated, and he overcame the trigger. Buffy found
Wood and Spike and told Wood that if he tried something like that again, she
would let Spike kill him.

Enter Caleb -- a preacher who works for the First with a southern accent and nothing but evil inside of him.
To complicate matters more, Faith comes back from LA and joins the team to help
fight. Buffy thinks that there might be something in the Wine Cellar where Caleb
is staying. She leads a party down there, loosing two girls and Xander's eye.
When she gets back to the house, Buffy finds out that everyone has turned
against her and she is kicked out of the house. Having given up, Buffy wanders
into a house and tries to get some rest; however,
Spike
manages to find her quickly and revive her spirits and give her the strength to
go back and fight Caleb. What she finds is a scythe buried in rock that she is
able to pull out.
When she goes back to the house, now back in charge, Willow and Giles help Buffy find a place where the scythe might have come from that might give her some clues to what the scythe was. When she gets there, Caleb and she face off for the final fight, with a little assistance from Angel, who came down from LA when he heard she was in trouble. Buffy kills Caleb and Angel leaves her with a talk of the future and an amulet that is meant for a champion.
So, she gives the amulet to Spike.
That night, Buffy realizes that they are going to win. She comes up with a plan to give every girl Slayer power, and the possibility that they will be the Slayer. Equipped with Slayer power, all the girls prepare to fight the final battle. They all go down to the school basement and open the seal while Willow performs the spell to turn everyone into Slayers. Once down inside, they see thousands of Turok-Hans, but bravely fight. Spike, who is wearing the amulet, suddenly feels it start to work. A bright light comes out of him and immediately turns the Turok-Hans to dust. The surviving girls start to flee since the building is coming down on them, but Buffy stops where Spike is. He orders her to leave and she says he has to come with her. She grabs a hold of his hand, which starts to catch fire, and tells him she loves him, to which Spike says she doesn't.
Buffy eventually runs out of the school building, climbing to the roof and running out of Sunnydale, where the town is literally caving in underneath her feet.
Finally, they stop right outside the city limits, looking back at the giant crater in front of them.
What's next for Buffy Summers? Her look says it all -- anything.
