Part 1
“What possible catastrophe could have come crashing down from Heaven and brought this dashing stranger to tears?”
- Drusilla – Fool For Love

The young man ran, papers clutched to his chest defensively, tears spilling over his cheeks, his friends hurtful words echoing inside his mind.

He had tried to be everything she deserved, could have wanted, but in vain. She wanted nothing to do with him, she had laughed at him-- along with everyone else!

It was pointless. He was a fool for thinking she would ever want him! And poems? What was he thinking? No wonder they laughed at him, it was ridiculous. He was a fool, in his own mind and the minds of others. Ignoring the pain in his chest, he ran faster, blinded by tears.

He ran straight through a party of people, not stopping to apologise, William continued to run. Run-- as far away from the pain as possible.

Part 2
“There’s moments in you life that make you. That set the course of who you are going to be.”
- Whistler – Becoming Pt.2

Elizabeth smiled at something her companion said. Replying to him, she asked the other woman of the group where they were headed tonight.

The man was tall, muscley, kind of bulky, with dark brown hair tied at the nape of his neck and brown ‘soulful’ eyes.

The second woman was taller than Elizabeth but not Angelus. Long curly blond hair twisted into a bun behind her head. Her blue eyes twinkled as she laughed.

“Well Lizzy,” she replied. “Cecily is throwing a party, is she not? Aren’t you invited?”

Angelus laughed again. “Shouldn’t you be there already?”

Elizabeth opened her mouth to excuse her lateness, but was interrupted by a hansom brown haired man who barged through them. Darla was quite put-out by the interruption whereas Angelus was plain pissed.

“How dare he? He should learn some manners.”

“Hush Darla.” Elizabeth chided. She herself was not mad at the interruption or the causer of it. That man had been crying, she had seen the tracks on his cheeks. Sighing, she turned back to her friends.

“I’m not feeling up to his any longer. If you’ll excuse me…” Trailing off, Elizabeth left, unaccompanied, in the direction of the stranger.

Part 3
“One woman has hurt you; you take your revenge on the rest of the world.”
- unknown

The pain soon became too much for William to bear. Sobbing loudly, he sank to his knees, papers flying across the floor in carious directions.

(Bitch! What gives her the right?) He thought angrily to himself. Fortunately, his thoughts were interrupted by Elizabeth’s arrival.

“Excuse me sir, but are you alright?”

Looking up into a pair of hazel eyes he nodded. “Quite alright, thank you,” he muttered sniffling slightly.

“Oh.” She muttered quietly. “It’s just that… you ran through my group--”

William stood quickly, his face blank. “Yea, well, sorry. You can go now.”

“--And I was wondering--”

What?” He snapped irritated.

“--What possible catastrophe could have come crashing down from Heaven and brought this dashing stranger to tears?”

“William looked up at her, cheeks flaming, eyes wide. “Um…”

“You going to tell me or stand there staring? Not that I mind, mind you.”

Elizabeth grinned at him; William turned a brighter shade of red.

Remembering himself, he averted his eyes and looked horrified.

“Oh! Dear! Miss, I am so sorry. I had a- a dreadful day. It was no excuse--”

Elizabeth continued smiling, moving closer to him, she bent to the floor and began collecting his scattered papers, when she’d retrieved them all; she stood and handed them back to him.

“Tell me, please?”

Part 4
“Love… builds a Heaven in Hells despair.”
- William Blake

Running a hand through his hair, William sat back down on the floor next to Elizabeth.

“Isn’t this unconventional? We don’t even know each other.”

“Good evening sir, Lady Elizabeth Anne Summers, pleasure to meet you.” Elizabeth introduced herself with mock sincerity, grin plastered firmly in place.

Laughing softly William joined her game. “William Aldridge. Pleasure’s all mine, m’lady.” He even went as far as to stand back up and bow to her.

Finding it amusing Elizabeth giggled and William couldn’t help but note it was the sweetest sound he’d ever heard.

“Effulgent.” He mumbled, looking horribly embarrassed soon after when he realised she’d heard him. “I- uh, I- I mean- -” He stammered. Placing a finger to his lips, silencing him, Elizabeth smiled. This time it was her who blushed.

And again William thought it was the sweetest thing he’d seen.

“Radiant!” She moaned breathily.

William was stunned, “you know what it means? You wouldn’t happen to know what it rhymes with, would you?”

“What kind of thing is that to ask?” Elizabeth questioned, amused.

Floundering again, William managed to tell her of his ‘Bloody Awful Poet’ status.

“You!” She accused. “Cecily was talking about you!”

William nodded slowly, embarrassed and ashamed. Expecting some form of ridicule or abuse he was shocked by the lady’s reply.

“Indulgent. That’s what it rhymes with, William.”

(Why isn’t she…?)

“Why aren’t you…?”

“Laughing? Because, William, from what I’ve heard and seen tonight you are a wonderful man, who is destined for greatness. Don’t let that bitch stand in your way. She doesn’t deserve you!”

Part 5
“… I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are.”
- Spike - Touched

William smiled softly up at Elizabeth. She smiled back. Looking at her, the way she made him feel now, he knew she was right. He was better off without Cecily. And if he was honest with himself he couldn’t say he truly loved Cecily either.

Now, Elizabeth-- given a longer period of time --maybe!

“What are you thinking sweet William?” Elizabeth asked curiously.

“That I would like to get to know you better.”

“And?”

“And if I did I’d be very much in the way of falling for you.”

William ducked his head shyly. When he looked back up again, Elizabeth looked sad.

“I’m sorry William. I’m not staying for much longer, people are expecting me.”

“Oh. I didn’t mean to delay you. If you have to go feel free. But--”

“What?”

“Can I--?” Elizabeth smiled knowingly. Shuffling towards him slowly, she pressed her lips to his, silencing and answering his request simultaneously.

Wrapping his arms around her, pulling her closer to him, William moaned into the kiss. Soon feeling the need for air, he pulled away.

Wow!”

“First kiss, huh?” William blushed that adorable blush of his at her question.

“Um, yea.” Ducking his head shyly again, he mumbled.

“You were pretty good. Without the ‘wow’ I might have mistaken you for a pro.”

“T- Thanks.” He stuttered. Suddenly curious, William couldn’t help but ask. “You kiss many men then M’lady?”

Elizabeth laughed softly, surprisingly unoffended. Which was good, as William was afraid he’d stuck his foot in it.

“Not many, just you and my Si- fiancé.” Elizabeth amended.

William stared at her, mouth open, eyes wide.

“You’re to be married?” Elizabeth nodded and William swallowed hard. “Oh!”

Elizabeth placed a hand on his face, her thumb caressing his cheek softly.

“I really must be going.”

“I’ll see you again?” William asked hesitantly.

Walking away from him, Elizabeth thought on his question. At the entrance to the alley, she turned eyes flashing gold and whispered.

“In another lifetime!” Leaving him there, she walked off into the sunrise- her body crumbling to dust -determined to make good on her promise.

Part 6
“Cinderella and her prince did live happily ever after.”
- Ever After: A Cinderella Story

The Powers That Be looked down on their poet and what remained of his saviour and smiled. The vampires Elizabeth Summers sacrificed herself for her promise. And the PTB were going to make her keep it.

Silently they set to work, consulting the Fates who entwined their strings 100 years from now.

100 years later

William “Spike” Giles bent down on one knee. His girlfriend Buffy Summers was stunned.

“Buffy, luv, I feel like I’ve known you for much, much longer than my life. I love you with all my being and never want to be away from you. I want to spend this life with you. And the next! Will you marry me?”

Grinning broadly, tears in her eyes, Buffy Summers could only nod.

One year later

“I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”

Leaning forward, pressing his lips to hers, he moaned. A strong sense of déjà vu over came them. Pulling apart finally, William smiled.

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”

As they left he church man and wife, the Fates looked down at the couple, then at the two pieces of string that had knotted together tighter during the vows.

They were now well and truly bound for Eternity!
