Chapter 7:  Lovers and Their Enemies:

Buffy hurried through patrol wanting nothing more to get back to her vampire and away from Willow’s never-ending questions and resolve face.  Buffy flipped her hair off her neck and sighed, stopping to rest against a tombstone and determined to get this conversation over with.

“Okay, Willow, go for it, I can see we’re not going to get through patrol without twenty questions.”

“Well, yeah, best friend here, remember?  You’re supposed to want to talk to me.”

“Willow, you haven’t exactly been available girl lately, what with you spending every night with Oz, and hey, I’m fine with that really.  You deserve to have a boyfriend, but it has been lonely.”  She looked at Willow, hoping that she at least would try to understand the whole Spike situation.  “You didn’t say much back there.  You ok with this?”

Willow settled beside of Buffy and tried to answer her honestly.  “I don’t know that ok is the right word, I mean, hey evil vampire tried to kill me a bunch of times…” she trailed off when Buffy looked away, biting her lip and blushing. “But, I do get what you’re saying about being lonely, about needing someone that understands you.  I also know how hard it hass been since Angel left, how you cry at night sometimes, and how you shy away from guys at the Bronze.”

Buffy stood at the hard truths her friend was stating and begin pacing.

“If Spike makes you happy, if you think you can trust him, then I’ll stand by you.  I might not be able to trust him yet, but I will be here if you need to talk…speaking of which…” She looked at Buffy coyly out of the corner of her eye.  “Xander caught you and Spike doing what?”

Buffy didn’t believe she could turn much redder, but she did, stopping her pacing at looking at Willow.  “Well, we were, uh…he…” She stopped when Willow burst out laughing.

“You should have seen the look on your face!”  She continued giggling for a few more minutes while, Buffy stood, bemused smile on her face.  “So, how was he?  Bet vampires are really good at…you know…what with the whole not needing to breath thing.”

Buffy’s mouth flopped open in surprise, and she slapped at her friend’s arm playfully, “Willow!  You should talk!  What about you and Oz, he has that whole predator thing going on too!”

Willow blushed as red as her hair.  “Well, yeah…umm, yeah, I think we’ve patrolled enough don’t you?”

~

Buffy was still giggling about her friend’s insinuation when she let herself in the front door.  She turned, closing and locking the door behind her, gasping sharply when suddenly she was pressed against it with a game-faced Spike against her back.

“What’s so funny little girl?”  He growled nuzzling against her neck with his mouth, careful not to draw blood.

She tilted her head to give him better access and relaxed against his body, rubbing her ass against the erection she could feel against her.  “Thought you were going to go to sleep?”

“Well, yeah, tried that, but couldn’t.  Your scent was all over the bed, the room, me…” he thrust his cock against her harder,  “got me all hard.”

“Ohhhh, poor baby,” she continued her assault, a thrill going through her at his words.  It made her feel powerful, that she could do this to him, the vampire she could never quite defeat,  “want me to take care of that for you, baby.”

He growled and spun her around his arms, before pushing her onto her knees.  “Hell yeah, want you to take care of it…” he trailed off and growled again as he felt his zipper being lowered and her hot little hand taking him out.

She pulled him from his jeans and wrapped her hand around him, swiping the leaking tip with her thumb and then stroking her hand down his hard shaft.  She looked up at him mischievously before sticking her tongue out, tip pointed and licking his head, poking the slit with it.  He growled and braced his hands against the door, his head falling back, as she opened her mouth and took him inside, swirling her tongue around the head of his cock before pulling him in as far as she could take him.  His cock hit the back of her throat and she hummed at the salty-sweet taste of him, causing him to moan and thrust at the vibration against his sensitive glands.  She smiled around him at the sound and did it again, before carefully swallowing.

He roared his approval and reached down to hold her head still before he started thrusting gently into her mouth.  She stilled her movements and let him lead, when he realized she understood he put his hand back on the door and used it as leverage as he fucked her mouth.

Buffy had never done this before, Angel hadn’t let her, but she wanted to do it for Spike.  She didn’t really know what she was doing, but he was easy to please, so she followed his lead and did what his moans, growls and groans told her he liked.  Each time he withdrew she would suck hard, swirling her tongue over the length of his shaft, when he thrust back in she’d swallow around the head of his cock.

He was out of control, babbling incoherently, with every thrust. “Fuck…Slayer…Buffy…where the hell did you…ah…yeah, do that again…” He had no idea what he was saying, he just knew as he felt his orgasm build, balls drawing up tight against his body that it was going to be hard.  “Fuck, fuck, baby, gonna cum…” he gripped her head and thrust in hard one last time, screaming ferally as he exploded into her mouth.

Buffy gripped his ass in her hands to hold him to her and swallowed furiously as he came in her mouth.  He tasted unlike anything she had ever tasted before, salty and sweet at the same time, thick and creamy.  She closed her eyes and moaned at the wetness she felt between her own thighs and she tightened her muscles, shifting her thighs together, wanting friction on her clit.

Her moaned caused him to growl and give a final shudder before he pulled himself out of her mouth and collapsed on his knees in front of her.  They wrapped their arms around each other holding on as he calmed down and she tried to assuage her arousal.

It didn’t work, “Spike, Spike…I need…” She pulled on his blond hair, raising his face from the crook of her neck, hazel eyes, wide and glazed with lust.

Sated blue eyes blazed back at her in desire and love.  “Shhh, love, I know what you need.”  He laid her back gently on the floor and raised her short skirt, hooking his fingers in her thong and tearing it from her, while sliding down between her legs.  He blew a cool stream of air across the neatly trimmed curls of her glistening pussy.  “Let Spike take care of you.”

He pushed her legs up, widening her for him and used his thumbs to spread her apart.  Inhaling unnecessarily, he breathed in her arousal, and growled as his cock hardened once more.  Her hips were raising and lowering desperate for his touch and he knew that she was so aroused from sucking him off that she was ready to cum.  He licked her slit from top to bottom causing her to cry out and grasp his hair tightly, he chuckled against her clit and she bucked against his mouth urging him on.  Deciding not to prolong her torture, he sucked her hard clit between his lips and plunged two fingers into her dripping hole.  She screamed as he thrust his fingers again and again, laving her bud with the flat of his rough tongue, and began to cum.  He finger fucked her through her orgasm, drawing his fingers out as the contractions lessened and replacing them with his tongue, licking and sucking her cream from her body.

When she had calmed, he slid back up her body, taking her mouth in a kiss, rubbing their tongues together so that their flavors combined on both their tongues, a loud purr rumbled through his chest at the taste of them.

She pulled away from their kiss and giggled at the sound, and thought again of Willow’s comment.

Spike pulled up to look at her, the question in his dark azure eyes.  “I ask again little girl, what’s so funny?”

Buffy just laughed harder and hugged him against her.

Chapter 8:  Lovers and Their Enemies: Part II

Buffy had left Spike sleeping in her bed and made her way towards campus for her appointment with Professor Walsh.  Her thoughts of her lover tumbled through her mind as she replayed the night before over and over.  She had never before felt the pleasure that Spike had given her, not even with Angel, her supposed true love.  She thought that she had known what love was, but she hadn’t.  Love was now soft bleach, blond hair, ferocious demon and gentle man.  Love was hard and fast, slow and sweet.  Love was him, Spike.  She sighed as she remembered their lovemaking after they had finally made it upstairs.  It had been lovemaking, maybe her first time at making love.  She hoped that this thing with Spike would never end.  She hoped that he felt the same way.

As she reached the Psychology building, she shook her thoughts off and pondered what Professor Walsh wanted to see her about.  She had done really well on her last paper, so she was unsure of what it could be.  Of course, she tended to miss class a lot, slayage not being conducive to early morning classes.

She opened the door and took the stairwell to the fifth floor, arriving unwinded and smiling, ready to speak with her Professor.

She knocked on the slightly open door.  “Professor Walsh, Buffy Summers here to see you.”

The Professor set aside her papers and removed her glasses, allowing time for Buffy to walk into the room.  She held out her hand, “Yes, Miss Summers, I’m glad to see that you’re on time.”  She cocked a meaningful eyebrow and the young woman, and Buffy blushed in response to the small reprimand.  “Please take a seat, Miss Summers.”

Buffy sat, straightening her skirt and crossing her legs.  “Why did you wish to see me, Professor?  I did really well on my last paper…”

Buffy trailed off as the Professor raised her hand for silence.  “No, no, you’re right you did do well on your last paper, your exam too.  That’s not why I called you in here.”

Buffy looked puzzled at this remark.  “But wasn’t that the message you left for me at home, Professor Walsh?”

“Yes, well, you see, Miss Summers I needed you to come in and thought it a reasonable excuse.”  The Professor eased around Buffy and closed the door, the lock engaged with a quiet snick.  “I’ve heard something rather interesting, Buffy, may I call you Buffy?”  She waited until Buffy had given her permission.  “Yes, something very interesting about you, my dear.”

Buffy was confused as to what the Professor was alluding, but felt the tingle in the back of her neck, signaling that something was wrong.  She always paid attention to that feeling.  It had saved her life from Spike on several occasions.  “I’m sure I don’t know what you are talking about, Professor.  How about you tell me?”  Buffy stood, putting the two on more even footing.

“I’m talking about the fact that you are the Slayer.”

“What?  Where did you hear…what’s a Slayer?”  Buffy was alarmed at the implications.  Why would this women know that, and more importantly, why would she care?

“You see, Buffy, I have a vested interest in things like these; vampires, demons, Slayers.  Although I must admit, I thought the Slayer was a myth until my men told me about you saving a certain vampire…”

Buffy was extremely alarmed.  She realized she could be in trouble.  “Your men?  Oh, you mean the men whose asses I kicked for touching my vampire?”  The blonde cocked her hip, resting her hand upon it.  “Let’s cut to the chase here, all right.  You’re right I am the Slayer.  Your men, or whatever, are messing with things they have no business with.  Slayer equals The Chosen One.  The Chosen One, the one girl in all the world, Professor Walsh, not the Chosen One and a bunch of wannabe demon hunters.”

The Professor just smiled at the girl calmly.  “Thank you, Miss Summers, for verifying my men’s story.  Captain Finn?  Contain her.”

Buffy spun on her heels too late, as she had never even sensed the other human in the room, as he brought down a taser on her exposed neck.  The pulse shot directly into her nervous system, causing a disturbance in her pulse, making her black out.  Finn caught her in his arms, awaiting further instruction.

Walsh nodded in satisfaction.  “Take her into the Initiative lab and strap her down.  I’ll call Dr. Chi and tell him to be waiting.”

The soldier nodded that he understood and swept through the hidden entrance behind the bookshelf, his burden light in his arms, but heavy on his mind.

~

Spike was unconcerned when he awakened late afternoon and found that Buffy was not home.  He knew she had a meeting at the college, and figured she had gone on over the Watcher’s to train afterwards.

He had fed from his love the night before, and really wasn’t in need of blood, but that didn’t stop him from being peckish.  He sorted through the Summers’ icebox hoping to find something appetizing.  He shuddered in distaste as he shoved the container of pig’s blood to the very back, where he found a lone bottle of beer and twisted off the top.  He took a long swallow and shivered at the bitter flavor.  Damn American beer, but shrugged and took it with him into the living room.  He snagged the remote off of the television, and flipped it on, rapidly scanning through the channels, before settling on one and flopping back on the couch, beer in hand.

He smirked as Passions played, bloody good show that, and drank the rest of his beer, before falling back on the couch and watching his show.  He never knew when he fell back to sleep, dreaming of silken skin, vanilla, and hot, sweet Slayer blood.

~

Riley Finn, snuck away from the underground compound as soon as he knew he wouldn’t draw attention to himself.  He felt physically sick at what he had seen and been apart of this afternoon.  He had joined the Initiative after five years spent in Brazil while he was in the army.  The things he had seen down there had been terrifying.  He believed in job that the Initiative was doing, or he did before coming to Sunnydale.  In Brazil, his unit had protected civilians from vampires and other demons.  Here, Professor Walsh didn’t allow them to kill the hostiles, she wanted them tagged and brought in for testing.

He had let it go all this time, because really, they were just demons.  But that girl, Buffy, she was human, stronger then most, and she had protected that vampire, but she was still only human.  The tests they performed on her this afternoon had proved that.

He shuddered in thought of the things they had done to that girl.  The blood and DNA analysis were nothing.  They had probed and took samples from every orifice on the girl’s body, and when the Professor had found live semen in the girl, live, blood filled semen; she had been thrilled, ordering testing on Buffy’s reproductive system to see if there could be a viable pregnancy.  She had gone on and on about the possibility of a vampire producing a child with the Slayer.  Her eyes had a gleam that Riley didn’t like when she talked about how powerful such a being would be.  The ultimate soldier.

So, as soon as they had taken the girl down for an ultrasound, he had left the complex, heading for Revello Drive, the address he had found for the girl in the Professor’s record book.  He hoped to locate the girl’s red-haired friend, Willow and get her some help.  He couldn’t be directly involved, but he couldn’t leave her in the Professor’s hands either.

~

The banging on the front door startled Spike so badly, that he nearly fell off the couch.  “Bloody hell, who could that be?  Slayer’s not even here, stupid pillocks…” he muttered, figuring it was the whelp or witch.

He stomped over to the door and opened it carefully, before realizing that the sun had set and throwing it on open.  He growled, slipping automatically into game face at the sight of the boy on the other side, before grabbing him and slamming him up against the wall by the door, fangs bared, ready to rip out his throat.

Riley gasped as he found himself slammed up against a wall by a furious vampire.  He stuttered around the blond vamp’s tight grip, trying to tell him about Buffy.  “Wait, I’ve got to…”

Spike snarled as the boy presumed to tell him to wait.  “Why the hell should I you bloody git, you didn’t give me much of a chance the other night.”  He roared in anger at the memory of this boy and his pals striking him with the tasers over and over, and plunged his fangs into his throat, growling and feeding.

“Buffy…”

The vampire stopped at the sound of his Slayer’s name on the boy’s lips.  He pulled away from his neck.  Looking hard at the trembling boy.  “What about her?” He demanded, loosening his hold so the kid could speak.

“Professor Walsh has her.  Our unit, the one you fought the other night, is not the only one here in Sunnydale.  Professor Walsh heads up a branch of the army called the Initiative.  It was originally supposed to be to protect civilians from vampires and other demons.  But here, things are different; you saw that the other night.  I told Professor Walsh that the girl called herself the Slayer and she was very interested in that.  The meeting today, was a set up, she had Buffy taken into the Initiative.”

Spike was furious and he could smell Buffy all over this boy, her scent and her blood.  “Who helped her?  I know that Buffy could have easily taken the bint out.  She’s the strongest Slayer I’ve ever faced, and I’ve killed two before.  So you tell me, who helped her.”  He shook the boy roughly, his bloodlust rising with his anger.

“I…I didn’t know…” Riley tried to explain, but it fell on deaf ears.  The vampire roared again and threw the boy across the room, before stalking him, and punching him hard in the face.

He lifted the boy up again.  “You are going to go with me now and tell the Watcher what you just told me.  Then you are going to take me to her or I will finish what I started, is that clear?”

Riley nodded his head, knowing the vampire wouldn’t hesitate to kill him.  “There’s something else.”  He was afraid not to tell the vampire the whole story.  “They were doing tests on her, trying to find out what makes her the Slayer…” He paused as the vampire tightened his grip and growled low in his chest.  “They found semen, live, blood semen.  They think it belongs to a vampire.  When I left they were taking her to see if there was a chance she could be pregnant, thinking that any child that would belong to a vampire and a slayer would be the ultimate soldier.”

Spike froze as he realized the implication of what the boy told him.  He knew he was the only one Buffy had been with and the boy had said bloody semen that they believed belonged to a vampire.  He didn’t know how the bloody hell his seed could be alive, but he wasn’t about to question it.  If it was possible and Buffy could be pregnant…  Well, fuck it, that didn’t matter, except for the fact that both Buffy and any baby was his and he kept what was his.

He shoved the boy towards the door, “Let’s go.”

Chapter 9: Lovers and Their Enemies 3:

Buffy awoke with her head pounding and her nude body freezing.  She tried to set up, but realized she couldn’t.  Panic flooded her system as she began to yank at the restraints holding her down on a cold steel table.  She fought against her bonds, rubbing her wrists and ankles bloody before collapsing against icy metal.  Tears leaked out of the corner of her eyes, but she refused to let any noise escape, she was alone right now, but knew that probably wouldn’t last long.  Her body was a mass of bruises, her arms traced with puncture marks, and there was a burning deep between her thighs.  She wanted to sob at the realization that they had left no part of her untouched, but bit it back, crying wouldn’t solve anything and she needed to be calm to get herself out of this mess.  She could cry later when she was home with Spike.  At the thought of the blonde vampire, tears flooded her eyes again; this then was what she had saved him from. She blinked them away, resolve slipping over her features, she would escape, or Spike and the others would come for her, and when she did, that bitch and her little soldiers were going down.

When the door opened, Walsh was greeted with hard hazel eyes and a sneer.  “Where’s your little boy toy, Professor?  Or do you actually do the dirty work yourself?”  She glared at the woman hatred burning bright. “When I get out of here, when he comes for me, I’ll let him kill you.”

The Professor looked highly amused and smug, unconcerned.  “Oh, I hope he does come for you, Ms. Summers.  You see he has managed to do something quite remarkable, and I will need you both for the next phase of the plan.”

She walked forward and shoved a paper in front of Buffy’s nose.  Buffy’s forehead wrinkled as she tried to understand what she was looking at.  It looked like some kind of picture, black and white.  But it was strange looking, kind of wavy and there was a small darker area in the middle.  She looked at Walsh.  “Hate to tell you this, but if that’s supposed to look like anything, it doesn’t.  What?  Your camera’s broken?” She snarked at the woman trying to cover up her confusion.

The Professor just continued to smile smugly.  “This Ms. Summers is that remarkable thing that your vampire did.  This Ms. Summers is your zygote.”  She waited for Buffy to respond.

“My what kind of goat?”  Buffy asked, confusion evident.

“A zygote, Ms. Summers.  Soon it will be a fetus and if it survives, a child.  A child created by a Slayer and a vampire.”  The Professor threw her head back and laughed at the look of shock on the girl’s face.

“But…but, that’s not possible…Spike’s not alive…how…” She trailed off, tears blinding her sight once more as reality set in. Spike, however it had happened, had made her pregnant.  She was going to have a baby; a baby with Spike, whom she now freely admitted that she loved.  Joy flooded her heart and soul, until she looked back at the woman who was holding her captive.

Professor Walsh undid the restraints and tossed Buffy a hospital style gown, unconcerned about the Slayer attacking her.  Buffy tried to leap off the table, grabbing for the Professor, but feel weakly to the floor.  The Professor looked down at her smiling her smug smile again.  “Your strength has been incapacitated, Ms. Summers, you won’t be able to fight your way out of here.  I suggest you get dressed you will be escorted to your cell.  I also suggest, that you make yourself comfortable there.  You will be remaining here as my ‘guest’ until after the birth of the child.”  She trailed off, her eyes glazing over as she continued. “Think about it, the child of a Slayer and a vampire, what kind of power it might possess.”  Her eyes sharpened, as she looked the young woman once more.  “The ultimate warrior, Ms. Summers, and as soon as I have the vampire, I’ll have unlimited resources to create more.”

Buffy shivered as the Professor left the room she was cold, frozen inside and out.  That they planned to keep her was bad enough, but that they would use an innocent baby, turn it into an unstoppable soldier…Buffy wrapped the thin gown around her trembling body and prayed that Spike would get to them soon.  She was afraid for him to come, but knew that they had no chance for their baby to survive if he didn’t.

~

Spike beat his fist against the Watcher’s door impatiently, scowling at the stupid wanker beside of him.  He was bloody well furious and if he didn’t need the git he’d all ready ripped his throat out.  It pissed him off that he needed him.  It pissed him off that he needed the Watcher and the others, but he knew he couldn’t go into the place unprepared and without back up.  He pounded the door again.

“Bloody hell, Watcher, open up the bloody door!” He growled, physically forcing himself not to change in his agitation.  It wouldn’t do to scare the Watcher as soon as he opened the door, the bloody git didn’t trust him as it was, not that he could blame him, he was the Big Bad.

Giles pulled the door open and only missed being hit in the face as Spike began to beat the door again due to the barrier.  “Spike!” He hissed.  “What the hell are you doing here?  Where’s Buffy?”  He took a step forward cross in one hand and stake in the other. “What did you do to her?” His face was enraged.

Spike held his hands up in supplication and shoved the soldier forward, “Hold on you git, that’s what were here to tell you.  Invite me in.”

“Are you insane?!  There is no way in hell that I would invite you in here!  Just because Buffy has gone crazy, doesn’t mean we all have.”  He gestured wildly towards Xander and Willow, whom had walked up behind him.

Spike looked at the witch.  “Let me in, luv, Buffy’s in trouble and this wanker can prove I’m telling the truth.” He said pointing at Riley.

Willow hesitated, wanting to believe in the blond vampire as much as Buffy, and Spike pressed it to his advantage.  “I love her, Red.”  He said softly.

Willow’s emerald eyes widened and then softened making her entire face glow prettily.  “Let him in Giles, he isn’t going to hurt us.”

Giles looked at Willow, eyes wide, mouth opening and closing like a fish.  “I cannot believe that you would fall for his obvious attempt…”

“Come in, Spike.”  Willow said quickly over top of Giles’ rant.

Spike smirked at Giles and shoved Riley through the door.  He stalked over to couch, tossing the boy onto it. “Now,” he growled. “tell them.”

Riley looked at the vampire and gulped, before turning his attention to the rest of the group.  He looked at Willow and began to talk.  “I work for a branch of the Army called The Initiative.  We have a base under the campus.  We’ve been in town for about six months.  It is our mission to hunt down vampires and other demons here in Sunnydale and capture them for further study.  A few nights ago, we tried to capture him,” he said, pointing at Spike.  “A girl stopped us from taking him and injured several of my men.  She said she was the Slayer.”

Giles sputtered, “Of all of the irresponsible…I can’t believe Buffy would…”

“Shut the hell up, Watcher and listen to what the git has to say.”  Spike growled.

Giles glared at the blond vampire, but closed his mouth.  There would be plenty of time to lecture later.

“Anyway,” Riley continued.  “When I mentioned to my supervisor that Buffy said she was the Slayer, she became highly interested in her.  She devised a plan to get Buffy alone in her office so that we could capture her.”

He stopped and looked at the vampire and then Giles.  “It worked.  We injected her with a muscle relaxant that restrained her strength and took her into the lab.  I didn’t know what they were going to do to her, I swear.  I would never have helped them if I knew…” he stuttered to a stop as Spike vamped out and growled at him.

Giles, looking at the vampire’s response, became alarmed for the first time.  If Spike was acting like this it must be bad.  “Tell us the rest.”  He commanded, a little of Ripper showing through.

“Dr. Walsh, my boss, ran all kinds of tests on her, took samples from her blood, skin, hair, and ovaries.  They cut her to see how fast she healed, punched her to see if she bruised. During testing, it was discovered,” He gulped and looked at the vampire.  Spike nodded for the boy to go on. “It was discovered that there was a chance she could be pregnant, Sir.”

Willow gasped and Xander turned pale, Giles removed his glasses and started polishing them on his sleeve.  Xander recovered first.  “But that’s impossible, she hasn’t even been dating anyone since Angel!  She hasn’t had sex with anyone but,” He trailed off as a look of horror passed over his face as he remembered what he had walked in on the day before.  “Oh no, no, no, no!  There is no way, plus, he’s dead!”

Riley looked at the boy.  “Dr. Walsh believes that Spike, for whatever reason, produced live sperm and inseminated Buffy.  She was taking her for a sonogram when I left.”  He looked pointedly at the group, “If its true, Buffy won’t be allowed to leave until after the birth of the child, if then.  Dr. Walsh would not let a chance to study a child created by a vampire and a Slayer pass by.”

Giles shook himself out of his shock and took charge.  “Willow grab whatever you need for any type of spell we might need to perform.  Xander, take Riley and get enough explosives to blow the entire facility.” Willow, Riley and Xander all nodded and left, the door slamming behind them.   “Spike, I can’t believe I’m asking this, but have you fed?  Do you need blood?  We need you as strong as possible if we’re going to get her out alive.”

Spike growled at the thought that they would fail and she would die.  “I’m fine, mate and we will get them both out alive or die tryin’.”

Giles blinked at the vampire’s forcefulness.  “Yes, right, of course, them…if it’s true, then we’ll need to research when this is all over, there must be a prophecy about this.”

“My child will not be because of a prophecy!” Spike roared, incensed at the thought that his child was a result of anything but love.

“Spike, calm down.  I said we’ll talk about it later, after they are safe.”  As they started to gather some weapons, Giles realized that he had accepted that Spike was now apart of his Slayer’s and as a result of, his life.  If there was indeed a child, well, he was even more important to Buffy then before.

Chapter 10:  Into the Initiative:

Riley led the others through the sewer entrance of the Initiative, knowing that they would be watching the main entrance and the one through Lowell House.  He also knew, that other then soldiers disposing of demon carcasses, no one ever came this way and that it was not wired for cameras.  He was only hoping that they hadn’t discovered his desertion and changed the passwords for the access doors.  He knew he wouldn’t be able to go back now, not after he’d seen what they had done to an innocent girl.  He also knew that he couldn’t allow them to use any of the samples they had taken from her to make their soldiers.  The entire place would have to be destroyed.

~

Spike hated waiting.  It was one of the reasons his plans to take down Buffy had always failed.  He was too impatient, of course, now that he knew how he really felt about the Slayer, there could have been another reason he could never killed the bint.  He let a smile curl his lips as he remembered their dances, both on the battlefield and in the bedroom.  He couldn’t believe that it was only a few days ago that he had come to town bent on killing her and ended up shaggin’ her instead.  Damn if he didn’t get the better deal.

Despite his thoughts of his love, or maybe in spite of them, his demon was raging to be released.  Even though he hadn’t claimed her in that way yet, his demon loved her as much as the man.  He held tight rein on the demon though, knowing if he didn’t that he would kill the boy and that wouldn’t win him any favors from the Watcher and the others.  He needed them to trust him now more then ever, because he wasn’t giving up his woman or child, and he was sure there was a child.  He didn’t know how it could be possible, but he felt certain that the Slayer was breeding.  He wanted to throw his head back and roar in triumph and in fury that someone had dared take what was his.  But he didn’t, he followed the others and thought about how he was going to take that bloody Professor apart piece by piece and not even his love could stop him.

~

Giles took the time during their walk to observe the vampire.  He couldn’t understand how a soulless demon could show such an array of emotions, how he would even want to help the Slayer, his mortal enemy.  However, this was the second time that Spike had aligned himself with Buffy and he had to admit that without the vampire’s interference that Angelus would have killed him during the whole Acathla debacle. Giles decided to do what it is that he did best, wait and watch.  If it looked like Spike was going to be a problem, then he would take care of it himself.

~

Riley paused at the mouth of the tunnel that would lead into the complex.  He knew what the others would see and was ashamed of his part in it.  He turned and held his finger to his mouth cautioning them to be quiet from here on out.  He watched in disgusted fascination as the vampire, whom had been muttering and cursing under his breath, ceased to breath altogether, his human features shifting into that of the demon, feral eyes glowing evilly in the low light provided by overhead lamps.

Spike, sensing the soldier’s scrutiny, looked at him and bared his fangs threateningly, daring the boy to betray them.  Riley nodded his head that he understood and begin moving again.  The others were deathly silent as they marched, single file through the last tunnel.  Along each walls of the structure were cages and inside were all manner of demons in various stages of death.

Willow made a slight gasp at the atrocities she saw, and silent tears slipped down her face as she saw several demon children beaten and bloody, abandoned to die alone.  She forced a sob back as she saw a small green-skinned demon crying and reaching through the bars to touch a larger demon with green skin and red horns that was all ready dead.  She couldn’t believe the things she was seeing.  This was just wrong.  For the past four years she had thought that she had seen everything.  They had helped Buffy slay and protect the Hellmouth, but this was wrong.  These people weren’t protecting anybody by torturing demons.  It was cruel and useless.  She hurried to catch up to Giles, who wrapped his arm around her shoulders, allowing her to tuck her head against his chest so that she would no longer have to see the poor creatures.

Spike’s sensitive nose and ears were assaulted by the sounds and smells of the underground chamber.  He growled in anger and disgust at the damage done to even peaceable demons.  He stopped at the cage that held a floppy skinned demon whose skin was peeled away in some areas and burnt in others.  Blood oozed from multiple incisions in the folds of skin and its ear was incised so that it folded over and exposed the insides.  The demon was making whimpering noises in its abused throat and it turned liquid dog-like eyes on Spike.  Spike choked in despair at the pain he could see reflected in the poor sod’s eyes.  He turned at looked at Xander, whom had stopped as well.

“Spike,” Xander began looking at the vampire pleadingly. “Man, please, put it out of its misery, please…” he choked off tears falling unashamedly.

Spike nodded and grabbed a hold of the bars enclosing the demon.  With a strong pull he ripped the door open and enter the cage.  He looked at the demon for a moment, making sure that this is what it wanted.  When it gave him a slight nod, he gripped it by head and twisted brutally, breaking its neck quickly and cleanly.  He let it drop back to the floor and stepped back out where the others were waiting.  He looked at Xander and a moment of understanding passed between them.

Riley couldn’t believe what he had seen.  A vicious soulless demon had shown compassion for someone, something other then himself.  It made Riley question everything he had been told about vampires and demons.  It made him question who was the real monster, the vampire or the Professor.  He shook off his musings and led the group to the hidden door, placing his eye at the panel for identification purposes.  The light flashed green and the entryway opened.  They silently entered the Intiative.

Once inside he stopped the group.  “Here,” he instructed pointing to a row of lockers. “you’ll find clothes that will help you blend in a little better.”  They quickly went about pulling on the black attire that made up the commandos patrol uniforms.  “Spike, I want you to pretend that we captured you.”

“Wha’? I don’t think so mate!”  The blond vampire snarled. “Like I’d trust you lot.”

“It’s the best way, man.  We can carry you straight into the containment area this way.

That’s where they will have put Buffy.” Riley argued.

The blond vampire was still shaking his head he opened his mouth to protest again, when Xander stepped forward.

“Spike, let’s do it, man.  I promise as a Scooby, as one of Buffy’s best friends, that I won’t let them take you for real.”  He hefted the AK-47, showing Spike exactly what he meant.  “I love Buffy, and she loves you.  I’m not thrilled with it, but I know she needs you, man.  She deserves to have the man she loves, even if that man is a vampire.”

Willow stepped forward and placed her hand on his arm.  “We promise, Spike.”

Spike looked at the Watcher, and Giles nodded his head.  He sighed. “Right then, what do you want me to do?”

Chapter 11:  Into the Initiative Part 2:

“Okay, does everyone understand what we’re going to do?” Gone was the easily intimidated young whelp and in his place was a soldier.  Xander felt proud that they had entrusted him to the planning of the rescue.  While Riley had actual military experience and he didn’t, Riley wasn’t trusted. “Let’s do this then.”

Riley hoisted Spike up on his shoulder in a fireman carry.  “Gotta tell ya Cardboard, this is not nearly as exciting as it was when Buffy did it.” He smirked upside down.  Even though he had really been unconscious when she had carried him home, he couldn’t resist aggravating the git.

“Shut up, Spike” Riley snarled.

Xander and Willow laughed at the disgruntled soldier, and Giles’ lips twitched curiously.

Xander had the duffle with the explosives and Riley’s key card.  As soon as the others were in the containment area, and had Buffy, he was going to place the explosives. Riley had supplied him with a schematic of the complex and they had marked where the explosives needed to be placed in order to bring it down.  They had lucked out at the military base, and were able to “borrow” remote explosives.  As soon as everyone in the group was out, he would push the button.  That they would be killing people wasn’t taken into consideration.  The Slayer had to be saved at all costs.  It was the good of the world against a small group of soldiers and doctors.  Riley had tried to make sure that Forrest and Graham were out of the complex he hoped that they were where they were supposed to be.

Riley would enter the lab area disable all the locks and grab all of the test results and notes taken on the Slayer.  He would then plant a small, but powerful incendiary device with more then enough firepower to destroy both the lab and the doctors’ offices.  The samples taken from Buffy wouldn’t be a problem when the lab blew.  He felt some trepidation about what they were going to do, it was not enough however, to stop him from doing it.

Willow and Giles walked behind Riley imitating his walk and attitude.  Willow had tucked her hair up under a cap and wore a bulky vest to hide that she wasn’t whom she pretended to be. They each had automatic machine guns and prayed that they would have no need to use them, as they could do nothing but aim and shoot if they had to. Xander brought up the rear, his duffle and gun slung over his shoulder.

The four, with Riley carrying Spike, strode through the doors and into the main containment area.  They walked confidently and quickly as if they all had the right to be there, their black military issue, combat boots struck a staccato beat on the tiled flooring.  As they passed by the cells, Spike sent out his senses to find the Slayer, discretely tapping the soldier when he knew they were near her.  They passed by several lab technicians and the soldiers whom were on duty in the containment area.

“We caught the bastard that the girl saved the other night.  This should earn me that promotion, don’t you think?”  He smirked at the others and they laughed in agreement.

“Hell, yeah, Finn. Walsh sent out a call about 0800 regarding this particular vamp.  Damn, man you are one lucky, son of bitch!”

Riley grinned at the soldiers and went on down the rows. He drew up short at the vampire’s signal and tossed the vampire roughly onto the floor.  He kicked him in the ribs for good measure, and not a little spite.  He had to give the vampire credit however, as he never moved or made a sound during Riley’s manhandling.

The others had a hard time concealing their surprise and horror when they saw their friend.

Spike heard the Witch’s small gasp and dared to open his eyes enough to see his mate.  What he saw had him restraining his demon with everything that he had in him.  Buffy lay curled in the corner of the small cell, her back against the wall, arms and legs drawn up protectively against her belly.  He could tell that she was alive by the slow rise and fall of her chest beneath the thin hospital style gown.  He couldn’t tell if she was awake or not, due to the fact that her eyes were swollen shut and discolored from a severe beating.  Riley had warned them that they had punched her, but he had not idea it would be this bad.   He could also see where she had multiple cuts and abrasions on her tender, exposed skin.

Xander, who could not see Buffy from where he was standing back near the other soldiers, reacted to the slight stiffening and low growl of the blond vampire.  He quickly slammed the butt of his gun against the first man’s head bringing him down.  The other soldier, seeing the swift movement, reached for his own weapon, but was stopped by Xander swinging the gun around and giving a sharp blow to the second soldier’s stomach, followed by an uppercut to his chin, rendering him unconscious as well.

Riley looked at the two lab techs, “If you want to live run. Run for the exit and don’t look back!”  They must have believed the hard expression on his face, because they dropped their charts and ran for the closet exit.  Satisfied that he had saved at least two people’s lives, Riley turned and punched his code into the small computer on the wall, the lock to Buffy’s containment cell clicked and a black blur was at her side before the door even swung open.

Riley turned to nod at Xander, but found the young man all ready gone.  Willow and Giles stood ready with their weapons while Spike slipped off his duster and gently wrapped up the Slayer in it.  He carefully picked her up and strode from the bare cell, murmuring nonsense words to the slowly awakening girl.

Buffy could barely open her eyes enough to see Spike, but she really didn’t need to see him to know he had her.  She whimpered and snuggled in closer to his hard chest, taking comfort in the deep rumble of his voice.  When he realized she was awake and aware of him, his words changed to a purr, the sound vibrating against her cheek where she lay against him, soothing her.

Riley again took up point, putting Spike and Buffy in the middle and then leaving Willow and Giles to follow behind.  He stopped when they reached the door to the lab.  “You guys, go on and get her out of here.  I’m going to set the explosives in the lab and grab Buffy’s file.”  He looked at the vampire and the small girl cradled in his arms. “I’ll make sure that Walsh won’t be able to do this again.”

Spike nodded.  He had wanted to take care of the bitch himself, but his girl needed him.  Even though, it didn’t sit well with him, he’d leave her to the soldier.  “Finn,” he called out the soldier.  Riley paused and turned back, looking at the vampire questioningly.  “Make it hurt.”

Riley looked at Buffy’s bruised, bloody body and then at Spike. His eyes were hard as he nodded once to the vampire.

~

Riley slipped into the Initiative labs and quickly sealed all but the back exit.  He gathered the samples that were taken from Buffy and set them along with the explosives in the center of the lab.  He set the timer for five minutes and turned, gathering both paper and disk copies of Buffy’s reports.  He paused when he saw the black and white image of Buffy’s baby.  This, then, this little bit of cells, of flesh and blood, is what its all about, why its worth it. As he was turning to leave, Professor Walsh entered the lab, unaware of what was taking place in the complex.

“Captain, what are you doing in here?” She questioned, growing alarmed at the sight of the explosives in the middle of the floor.  “What do you think you’re doing?”

Riley placed the sonogram with the other documents and slipped it inside his vest, zipping it up for safekeeping.  “I’m doing what should have been done long ago.  I thought this place was something that did worked for good; that protected the people.  It’s not.  You proved that by the things you did to an innocent girl and her unborn child.”

“What are you talking about? What have you done with the Slayer!?”  Walsh was panicked at the thought of losing all the work she had invested that day, of losing what could be the strongest warrior ever.

“Buffy’s gone, and soon this place will be reduced to a pile of rubble…but first,” he stepped forward, “this is for Buffy and Spike.” His arm shot out, plowing his large fist into the small woman’s face.  Blood sprayed from her nose as it shattered and she slumped to the floor beside of the bomb.

Riley hit the timer and the countdown began, he never looked back.

Spike led the others back out through the tunnels.  Just as they cleared the tunnel and exited onto the street, Xander and Riley came running, Xander clutching the remote and Riley carrying a file folder.  Xander flew up the ladder and turned pulling Riley up after him.  Xander looked at the others and pressed the remote.  The series of underground explosions rumbled through the town and caused it to tremble, dust rolled up from the open manhole cover and the group stepped back, waving and fanning their faces.  Spike sheltered Buffy inside his coat as the dust settled and the tremors stopped.  He looked at the others.

“Appreciate it, mates.” He stated seriously. “I’m gonna take my girl home, get her cleaned up a bit, get some sleep.  We’ll see you lot in the morning.”  He didn’t wait for a response, just nodded at the Watcher and stalked off down the street towards Revello Drive.

“Come along, Xander, Willow, I’ll give you a ride home.  Riley, I’ll trust that you’ll see that things are taken care of?” The Scoobies piled in Giles’ car and left.

Riley looked at the fading taillights for a moment before turning and heading back towards Lowell House.  He’d contact the Army in the morning and make sure that the Initiative was gone for good.  The government would leave the hellmouth and its problems to the Slayer and her vampire.

The End (for now...)
