Spike sat in his favorite chair admiring his new DVD player. He smiled to himself. Life was great, Buffy was back from the dead and were friends, he had money, blood and cigarettes. Life was good.
The door burst open and Xander walked in,
“Spike…Wow a new DVD player! I’ve always wanted one of those!”
Spike glared at him,
“What do you want Harris?”
Xander glared at Spike,
“I was looking for Buffy. You seen her?”
Spike shook his head,
“Not since patrolling last night.”
Xander nodded,
“She must be with Dawn.”
Spike turned on his TV and Xander watched interestingly,
“New?”
Spike nodded,
“Got it this morning.”
Xander eyed Spike carefully,
“You stole it?”
Spike scoffed at him,
“You think I stole it? I bought it you bloody twit.”
Now it was Xander’s turn to scoff,
“You bought it? With what money?”
Spike shrugged,
“Money I had.”
Xander laughed,
“Yeah right. Where’d ya get it from?”
Spike shrugged again,
“I delivered some things for Willy and I got paid for it.”
Xander was laughing,
“You worked for it? I’d like to see that.”
Spike shook his head,
“Not likely. Anyway I do have my own money from a while back.”
Xander laughed,
“And where did you get that money from?”
Spike stuck his hand in his pocket and pulled out his wallet. He pulled out a credit card and handed it to Xander,
“That’s where.”
Xander was speechless, in his hand he held Spike’s credit card.
“Where the hell did you get this from?”
Spike grinned,
“I’m still the big bad to some people you know.”
Xander read the name on the card,
“William McClaren. Where’d ya steal that name from?”
Spike shrugged,
“My mortal name actually.”
Xander thought for a moment before handing it back to Spike,
“So does this DVD have good sound?”
Spike grinned evilly,
“You should hear it a vampire’s sensitive hearing, it blows your mind, literally.”
Spike picked up a DVD and placed it into the DVD player,
“Here watch.”
Xander sat down next to Spike on the couch and the two watched interestingly,
“The sound and picture are brilliant!”
Exclaimed Xander.
Spike grinned and got up and fetched them each a beer,
“You should watch the exorcist on DVD.”
Xander laughed,
“I get enough exorcist living in this town.”
Spike shrugged,
“True, but it’s more fun when it’s happening to someone else.”
Xander and Spike sipped their beers slowly.
“Why were you looking for Buffy?”
Asked Spike eventually.
“Well, we heard of a new apocalypse coming.”
Spike nodded,
“That all?”
Xander nodded,
“I know, not very important.”
The two of them were silent for a moment until both were sent into fits of laughter by the characters on the TV screen
Three DVD’s later Xander was still there and so was Spike, they had each had about five beers and the two of them prattled on about vampires,
“They are strong.”
Xander agreed.
Spike nodded,
“That’s a good thing. No wonder Buffy loved him.”
Xander looked at Spike questioningly,
“Who?”
Spike sighed,
“Angel.”
Xander sympathized with the vampire,
“He really is an asshole.”
Spike nodded.
Xander knew the pain Spike was talking about, he felt it too whenever Angel and Buffy were around, he hated the fact that Angel got Buffy but he didn’t.
“Yeah, him being with Buffy ruined everything.”
Spike sighed,
”You know, he had everything first, Dru, Buffy even all of you.”
Xander smiled,
“He had Drusilla first? Man that’s bad.”
“And that’s not all, Dru was even still in love with Angel when she was with me.”
Spike continued.
Xander smiled at Spike,
“None of us really liked Angel in the first place you know, and I mean Dawn is crazy about you, Giles can stand you, Anya; Tara and Willow like you, Buffy, well I don’t know, she seems to like you one minute and hate you the next. And me, well I guess you’re okay, so I guess you had us first.”
Spike smiled brightly at Xander,
“Really?”
Xander nodded,
“Yeah, but don’t go telling that to everyone.”
They both laughed.
Xander watched as Spike lit up another cigarette,
“You really love Buffy don’t you?”
Spike nodded,
“Too bad she doesn’t return the feeling, I mean she doesn’t even like me.”
Xander shrugged,
“I don’t know, I think, and believe me it pains me to say this, that she does like you and that’s the problem, she thinks every guy she’s ever loved will leave her and I guess she’s scared.”
Spike nodded,
“You I’d never hurt her or leave her?”
Xander nodded,
“I guess you’ve proved that and I trust you, I guess she’s got to learn how now.”
Buffy watched from the door as the two discussed matters at hand and she was surprised to see them being friends.
She listened carefully as they spoke of her and Angel and it pained her to see how much pain Spike was in.
She walked in and loudly cleared her voice,
“Hey Xander, mind if I talk to Spike alone?”
Xander smiled at Spike and winked,
“Sure, see ya later Spike. By the way Buffy there is another apocalypse coming.”
Xander left and Buffy stood in front of Spike and hauled him to his feet,
“Spike, I’m sorry that Angel hurt you, but I don’t love Angel the way I did. He’s my past but I want you to be my future.”
Spike was astonished,
“Me?”
Buffy’s answer was a deep, hard and passionate kiss.
Spike smiled,
“Thank-you Xander.”
Buffy and Spike both laughed and kissed again, ready to start their lives together.
